Review: Dublin based Major Problems is helmed by major retrovert and deep digger Compassion Crew; whose Compassion Cuts unearths more dormant classics for a well needed revival. He gave bleep techno anthem "Pressure Dub" by Ability II a well needed re-rub and now turns his deft hand at 2BMW 's 1990 classic "Don't Tell Me" (How Love Should Feel) by one Larry Rauson of Luxury Productions (The New Crew) fame. This was the one and only release on Life Of Luxury. Rauson is a founding member and producer for the independent label New Generation Records and has recorded with Tony Humphries and Louie Vega over the years. This deep and bittersweet jam is one of those perfect examples of the early '90s house zeitgeist by this underrated New Jersey producer. Also features "Love Dub" (Compassion Crew Re-rub) a lo-slung and bumpin DJ tool, in addition to Larry's Luxury mix of the same track featuring some truly sexy sax stylings.

Review: Deep House doesn't get deeper than Deep Explorer, Dubbyman's evergreen label transmitting out of Spain. On this latest 12", Allstarr Motomusic makes a welcome return after the first volume of Beauty & Simplicty back in 2015. This time they're working in collaboration with vocalist Sarignia Bonfa and the results are stunning. "Burning (In My Soul)" is a gorgeous, dubbed out slice of deep house with a true Midwest flavour, while "El Sonido Deepex" takes things into even more sultry territory. There's also space for downtempo reflection on "Space Of Life", but also watch out for the deadly remix of "The Whole Hood In My House" by CVO.

Review: Mihai Popescu and MP reunite as Aquaphresca on their self-titled imprint, proving the scene - and our shelves - with bountiful minimal vibes. The sort that's becoming rarer and rarer to come across. This is their fifth release, Soulseries 2, and "Time To" kicks off the A-side with a bouncy, dense groove that balances majestically between house and tech, fuelled by a subtle layer of jazzy sensibility. On the B-side, "Wake Up" delves deeper into the minimal wormhole, producing one of those glitchy, intricate grooves that are usually constructed by peeps like Villalobos - a great deal of tech sensibility, but also plenty of harmonic tonalities to render it a pleasure for any sensible DJ who's into GOOD music.

  3. Perles A Rerbours (8:13)
  4. Perles A Rerbours (Kaesar & Cruz remix) (6:17)
Review: Don't, for a second, think that Portugal's Bloop imprint is some sort of newcomer to the scene. Fair enough, they might have flown below-radar over the years, but this crew's been churning out quality house and tech since the mid 00s - peeps like Mirco Violi, Kasper and Alex Niggeman having come through the label at various points in time. There is a newcomer here, however, and his name is ARK, who launches "In Lov" on us - a broken, pseudo house experiment with an organic touch. "Arkmagedon" is straighter, more stomping but nonetheless jazzy in its approach, while on the flip, "Perles A Rebours" dives into a cavernous sea of eerie tones carried forth by a dubby swing, and the Kaesar & Cruz remix strips the groove back down to a minimalistic house chugger for the floor.

  4. Remember
Review: After launching into Memory Box with aplomb on the deadly Acid Stomp 12", Robin Ball steps up on the London-based imprint once again with the saucy tones of his latest four track EP. "Drop It Down Low" and its accompanying dub mix are classy twists on the tech house formula that lean towards old-skool methods while keeping the sleaze factor ramped up high. "Remember" takes a more tripped out tribal approach, with the "Vibes mix" providing a more subtle twist to the warm, melodic undulations of the full fat version. It's an EP loaded with personality and flair for sophisticated dancefloors.

  2. Let's Do It (A Louie Vega interpretation - Louie Vega Boogie mix)
Review: Leroy Burgess's family-affair Convertion dropped this snake-hipped, piano-pumping, early hip-hop/boogie jam in 1980. Back to the future and Master At Work man Louie Vega does the honourable thing and offers up two very distinct edits on this must grip Nervous 12". First up is the Dance Ritual mix that fully displays Vega's classic soft-but-stern jack dynamic, whilst the B side Boogie Mix veers off into more sprawling territory as the tempo eases down slightly and the attention is focused on the slinky percussion that really made the original such a DJ favourite in the first place. Just do it.

Review: "Forever Mona" was originally released in 1995 on Prescription Records sub-label Balance Recordings. A collaboration between Detroit legend and label boss (alongside Ron Trent) Chez Damier and the emerging young talent of the Motor City's third wave known as Stacey Pullen who would go on to found Black Flag Records and become a legend in his own right. A timeless classic amongst those that know, the four versions of the track featured here represent a true zeitgeist of the mid nineties Motor City sound in all its, funky, emotive and hi-tech deepness. This re-issue respectfully presents all the four tracks in their original format and not just one side like some of the bootlegs out there.

Review: Detroit by way of Cincinnati's Maurice Turner returns with this new offering: the Pulsar EP for Terence Parker's renowned Intangible Records & Soundworks. This follows up up his Glory EP for the label last year. It's a straight up, hands in the air affair in the vein of the classic midwest sound on the title track: this will really show the new kids who claim to be into 'old school' how it's really done. You can't really dispute anything about a tune named "I Want House", right? This tough and stomping workout packs in enough bump and shuffle to burn up any dancefloor. On the flip, he dives deep into the evocative and hypnotic on "Mars" that's' all about those fuzzy strings and lush orchestral section that's been sampled really well. Finally he gets techy with the raw and jackin' late night jam "Night Vision" which calls to mind classic K Alexi.

Review: Here's something to set the pulse racing: an unlikely collaboration between celebrated Italian producer DJ Tennis and Fink, one of the longest-serving members of the extended Ninja Tune family. The latter's melancholic, heartfelt vocals are a perfect foil for Tennis's gentle and melodious backing track, which layers bubbling electronics, simmering orchestration and twinkling synthesizer motifs atop a sparse, undulating drum machine groove. If we had to tightly define it, we'd call it lilting outsider pop. On the flip you'll find the "Club Mix", which wraps Fink's vocal and cascading pianos around a tactile, soft touch house groove.

Review: Jules Etienne has been skirting around labels such as Apersonal Music for a few years, but here makes a strong statement with a new record for CockTail D'Amore. "Triangle Des Bermudas" is a swinging yet cosmically inclined jam powered by warm synth arpeggios, which regular collaborator Massimiliano Pagliara then nudges up into crafty deep house territory. "Cuban Omlette" is a delicate affair that interweaves pattering percussion and nagging synth lines to make a particularly heady brew before "John's Job" finishes the record off with a richly layered drum track that should have DJs across the board getting tricky in the mix.

Review: Mehmet Aslan and Miajica represent some of the finest operators in Basel, and their Fleeting Wax label is on hand to represent what's good in the Swiss scene and beyond. On this latest release they turn to Eva Geist, who has previously been spotted on Macadam Mambo and Elestial Sound with her beautiful mix of synths and vocals, striking a chord between noirish synth pop and heads down club music. "Blumareciano" is a wonderfully seductive, slightly spooky stew of a track which San Proper then injects with his usual freaky energy to make for a more uptempo party version. Then Geist's "Begum" stretches over the B-side in a bubbling blend of delayed voices, tribal percussion and general outernational surrealism.

Review: Stomping tech house specialists Gorge and Homm team up on the unbeatable 8Bit label to provide us with some glorious Saturday evening vibes, the sort to lift you up and take you down. Both experts in the genre, and both of them already having appeared on the imprint, as well as other known favourites liked Saved or Freerange, these two cuts are professionally constructed and absolutely lethal in their effectiveness; the title tune "Dizz Co" bounces mightily thanks to a hypnotic loop consisting of shady harmonics and cold-cut percussion, whereas "Captured Moments" feels more skeletal in its guise, stomping lightly with its persistent bundle of highs and elegant lows. Banging little weapons, these!

Review: Tring's finest Huxley returns outside of his usual imprints such as Aus or his own No Ideas for Matthias Tanzmann's Leipzig powerhouse Moon Harbour: with with three surefire dancefloor cuts of slinky and grooving tech house. The pumping and directly executed funk of "Careo" is perfect to make that transition into the busy period on a Saturday night. On the flip, he takes things into the darker and more dramatic realm; we have the near tribal ecstasy of "F-Bomb" with its powerful toms thundering away alongside those gloriously jacking vocals that are somewhat familiar. This one is reminiscent of the sounds coming out of NYC round the turn of the millennium by the likes of Cevin Fisher. Some more great stuff by the lad known to his Mum as Michael Dodman.

Review: Since returning to action a couple of years back following a near two-decade hiatus, 1990s deep house survivor Ewan Jansen has barely put a foot wrong. With this in mind, it's perhaps unsurprising to find that this outing on IILE is packed full of evocative, melodious and floor-friendly gems. The Australia-based producer begins in confident mood via the darting synth bass, sun-kissed chords and melodious positivity of the wonderful "Reefing 101", before exploring slightly deeper pastures on the huggable warmth of Motor City influenced bumper "The Blackhawks". On the flip you'll find the Larry Heard style lusciousness of "Twinpole" and "Swarbourne", a jazzy and percussive workout smothered in deep space chord progressions. All killer and no filler: job done.

Review: Steel City Dance Discs: the vinyl only label curated by Mall Grab and most likely named after his hometown town of Newcastle in New South Wales Australia. It has served up killer releases recently by the likes of Ghettohousedrummachine, DJ Astral and X-Coast. It's now the turn of Jun Kamoda of Mister Saturday Night and Kabukahrythm fame. The quirky neon-lit funk of "Flaming Flamingo" starts of the A side along with the dusty and hypnotic confusion of "Misty Funk" which would be perfect for playing at an after-hours. On the flip, the EPs most lively moment comes in the form of the uplifting "The Fine Line" reminiscent of early Derrick Carter's Sound Patrol project.

Review: Hamburg purveyors of the deep Smallville are back with the debut of L'amour Fou, The Dujuan EP is the work of David Moufang aka Move D with Benoit Bouquin and Taipei based Marco Wollenberg. While opening cut "Sunday Haze" may sound like more generic fare, with its emotive house organs and all; the trio really find their sound on the B side when they dive into the deep and abstract. The evocative title track for instance, with its razor sharp and wandering arpeggio which is backed by a wonderfully hypnotic arrangement. Final offering "The Last Call" incorporates live instrumentation (mainly that sombre fingerpicked guitar riff), over ambient textures and reverb drenched field recordings with dusty rhythm patterns. Like most anything involving Moufang you really can't go wrong: and this one's no exception!

Review: Moustache-sporting producer Fede Lijtmaer - widely regarded as one of Uruguay's leading house and techno producers - has been surprisingly quiet since the release of his debut single on Oslo back in 2014. Clearly, he's been working hard in the three years that have passed since, because Autotransformacion is really rather good. For the most part, the Uruguayan blends sounds, melodies and rhythmic ticks borrowed from early British tech-house (when Detroit was the inspiration, rather than Berlin), occasionally throwing in a reference to classic ambient house (the Terrence McKenna-sampling "TM on DMT") or deep house ("True Self"). The exception to the rule is the brilliant "Polaridades", a thrillingly fuzzy and bass-heavy chunk of late night electro smothered in ragged acid lines and spacey electronics.

Review: 11 years on from their much-played debut, Andre Schmidt and Philippe Egger continue to release impressive music under the Mountain People moniker. This is their third release of an action-packed year, and sees the Swiss duo deliver two, high quality club tracks and a sumptuous ambient cut. While the latter ("Je Trouve (Intro)") is undeniably luscious and fluid, with the addition of delay-laden spoken word vocals, it's the main, floor-focused version of "Je Trouve" that stands out. Built around bubbling acid lines, ricocheting percussion hits and a lolloping machine groove, it's a trippy slice of late night tech-house perfection. Further peak-time thrills can be found on opener "Cielo Rojo", where cascading synthesizer melodies and dreamy pads ride a bustling, floor-friendly groove.
