Cathedrals
Cathedrals (double 12")

  1. Cathedrals (Jamie 3:26 Ballroom version) (10:02)
  2. Cathedrals (Maurice Fulton mix) (9:05)
  3. Cathedrals (Jamie 3:26 Disco dub version) (6:33)
  4. Cathedrals (7:36)
  5. Cathedrals (Faith Farley & Jarvis Sunday Sermon mix) (7:56)
  6. Cathedrals (Greg Wilson edit) (5:35)
Review: The much loved cult free zine Faith Fanzine relaunched recently to a welcome audience. Now they follow it up with the launch of their own label, also called Faith. The first release is a double 12" reissue of the classic 'Cathedrals' by DC LaRue. They say the aim is to "educate a new generation of house fans" and they do that by enlisting contemporary funk and soul maestros Jamie 3:26, Maurice Fulton, Greg Wilson and Faith's own Terry Farley & Dave Jarvis to serve up their own takes of this classic vocal track that has been sampled hundreds of times over the years.

  8. Overtake Don Overtake Overtake (feat Sahr) (6:30)
Review: Vega Records is back with more of its superbly live and joyous sounds from label chief Louie Vega. Elements Of Life Eclipse Part Two is another gorgeously spiritual record packed with life affirming grooves that distill Latin, soul, house and more into talks that brim with charm. Plenty of stellar musicians appear throughout including Axel Tosca on Fender Rhodes, Luisito Quintero & Roberto Vilera on percussion and Gene Perez on bass on the grand opener 'Feelin Liek Rio.' From there the quality level remain high, with Fender Rhodes solos, brilliant spoken word by Ursula Rucker and many more highlights along the way.

Discipline Of Swing Vol 2
Discipline Of Swing Vol 2 (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: SSWVNLZD 002. Rel: 29 Mar 21
  1. Hotmood - "Seductive Look" (5:34)
  2. C Da Afro - "Time To Move" (6:03)
  3. Ziggy Phunk - "Space Ranger" (6:44)
  4. Alexny - "Umbele" (6:48)
Review: The See-Saw label calls up a hit list of disco edit dynamos to bring a little party rocking magic to their latest 12", leading in with the looped up funk of Hotmood. 'Seductive Look' is the perfect insistent groove to get lost in, which contrasts with the bold and feisty 'Time To Move' by C Da Afro. Keeping things mixed up on the B side, Ziggy Phunk brings something special in the pattering, bongo-laden roller 'Space Ranger'. Alexny rounds things off with the low slung thwack and transcendent sax of 'Umbele', a track humming with the energy of Afrobeat at its source.

DOBRO 002
DOBRO 002 (140 gram vinyl 12" repress)
Cat: DBRO 002. Rel: 06 Apr 21
  1. Hurlee - "Pel Meu Per Tu" (5:02)
  2. Igor Gonya - "Mess In The Head" (4:30)
  3. Cosmocomics - "Surf & Smoothie" (5:03)
  4. MuteNoise - "Turn Me On" (4:51)
  5. Jeff The Fool - "Simplet Funky" (4:40)
  6. Will Sonic - "Musica Melodica" (4:58)
Review: Dobro are packing the heat in on this second 12", bringing us six refined slices of deep house goodness from some emergent operators to keep tabs on. Hurlee is up first with the honey-coated keys and dusty bump of 'Pel Meu Per Tu', while Igor Gonya whips up some oh so sweet soul licks and straps them to a sprightly, skipping beat. Cosmocomics get seriously soulful, MuteNoise brings a heavy disco edit flavour, Jeff The Fool pitches squarely at the peak time, and Will Sonic rounds things off on a positively dreamy tip without letting the floor-friendly vibes slip.

  1. The Sunburst Band - "He Is" (Jimpster remix) (7:21)
  2. Joey Negro - "I Recognise" (feat Sacha Williamson - Andres remix) (6:27)
  3. Prospect Park - "The Kinda Love" (Jkriv remix) (8:06)
  4. Jakatta - "My Vision" (feat Seal - The Vision remix) (7:03)
Review: Dave Lee aka Joey Negro has pulled together a fine team of remixers here to serve up their own versions of tunes by him, Jakarta, The Sunburst Band and Prospect Park, all for his own Z Records. Freerange boss and deep house Don Jimspter goes first and brings real sunshine to his take on 'He Is.' Detroit badman Andres then does what he does best to 'I Recognise', that is layering in hip hop slanted beats and nice rolling baselines under lush chords. On the flip are two more positive house vibrations to make this a handy EP.
