  1. The Theory (4:41)
  2. Lines Describing A Circle (7:02)
  3. Limits To Growth (7:41)
  4. I Came (5:18)
Review: Peder Mannerfelt's live performance at Berlin Atonal 2015 featured an early '90s style virtual reality 3-D incarnation of the man himself, complete with mask (as seen on the cover) posing while his violent and psychotic analogue experiments powered away for nearly an hour. An excerpted edition of Mannerfelt's performance features here on the festival's rebooted label. On the A side, the sonar communications on "The Theory" feature, while the shocking grind and squeal of "Lines Describing A Circle" give a good audio snapshot of what the night sounded like. On the flip, "Limits To Growth" features bass powered half by drone pulsations, half by what sound like Gregorian chants, supporting laser zaps and cut up vocal loops. The jagged and angular groove "I Came" shares the same style of tongue-in-cheek weirdness as Diagonal's Powell, who played the same night.

  3. Uwalmassa - "Untitled 06" (8:00)
  4. Wahono - "Pakar Gula Gending" (5:49)
Review: The DISKANT crew is back in full motion with this new batch of releases, and we're uber glad to see them back on our charts with their improbable technoid infusions. This time, however, the Durian Brothers take a side step and leave the podium to Marsesura, Uwalmassa and Wahono, three enigmatic figures who all make tripped-out percussive badness for all sorts of electornic aficionados. There's an Eastern tint about each of these 4 tracks, each of them spiraling into a reverie with the help of intricate drum folds, cavernous atmospherics, and the hypnotic glow that belongs to pretty much every Diskant bullet. Excellent.

Review: Not much is known about Ueno Masaaki other than he's a Japanese artist that's debuting on Raster-Noton with a burgeoning new sound. It's a cutting edge sound that fits in perfectly with demeanour of Raster-Noton and all tracks on Vortices sound like dry, micro-loop reductions of Aoki Takamasa's music. Masaaki's inclusion to the label's Unun series follows previous releases by Mika Vainio and Emptyset - and if that's who label founder Byetone wishes to associate the Japanese artist with than we can expect great things in the future.

Raindrops (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: DR 002. Rel: 27 Nov 17
  1. Ignore
  2. Steam
  3. Raindrops
  4. That F Sound
Review: Nathan Melja drew some favourable attention with choice outings on Mister Saturday Night, Black Opal and Technicolour, but now he's steering his own label Dream Real as a vessel for his wayward but warm sonics. This second release keeps the psyched out tone of his previous work intact, offering up four jams of illustrious synth work and fractured beats for the adventurous souls out there. "Ignore" is a vaporous cut of stuttering drums and fuzzy chord shapes, while "Steam" sports a more clearly defined rhythmic pulse for the deepest house heads. "Raindrops" cools things down to a downtempo lilt, and then "That F Sound" nudges towards a leftfield techno domain that Melja ably makes his own.

Review: Spread between the US, UK and Canada, the MKFN trio are basically set for world domination and their latest EP on the always on-point, Touchin' Bass is nothing but vibes. Travelling through treacherous low-ends and cavernous tech-steps, their sound is characteristic of the UK's bass tradition and fits nicely at the present end of the hardcore continuum. "Substrate" has to our favourite, simply because of those rugged, slicing half-beats. For fans of Objekt and the Hessle Audio sound.

  5. 87 (Serb remix) (5:55)
Review: Romania's newest source of experimental minimalist, Listen2Me, digs up a new talent by the name of MGCH, and shoots him - or her - onto our shelves with this small marvel of an EP. "87" is a delightful tune, a glitchy minimal groove that travels between house, noise and electro with utter ease and pure elegance, a sound that is matured further via the rhythmic sway of the moodier, dubbier folds and clicks of "Is This It". There's a trio of leftfield charmers on the flipside, spear-headed by the warm and placid glow of the near beatless "What For", evolved into something of a lounge house mood on "How You See", and tied off by a dubwise reinterpretation of "87" by Serb. TIP!!

  2. 90% Wasser (5:07)
Review: Moderat's newest album III is out and the second single to be released by the amazing trio of Gernot Bronsert, Sascha Ring and Sebastian Szary is "Running", an emotive pop inflected electronica number showing off (mainly) the fine vocal talents of Ring whose emotional performance is electrifying! On the flip is "90% Wasser" a sombre broken beat number with cinematic qualities; just as emotive with its soaring strings later that build up to an amazing crescendo.

Review: What a year it's been for Warp. So far in 2014, other than Aphex Twin's Syro, the label has released music from Squarepusher, Oneohtrix Point Never and Jackson & His Computer Band to Plaid, Nightmares On Wax and Rustie - with another album by Clark forthcoming. Now one of Glasgow's most colourful producers (check out the cover art), Hudson Mohawke returns to home base with his first official release since the Satin Panthers EP. As usual there's a kaleidoscope of sounds to be heard on Chimes alongside hip hop beats, footwork skitters and gangster 'woof' vocals, and if "Joy Fantastic" from Butter is a Hud Mo fav, then "King Kong Beaver" should fill you with hope that a follow up LP is on the way.

  1. Deep Summer (6:51)
  2. Deep Summer (Burial remix) (10:18)
Review: How do you make a trippy, claustrophobic and mind-altering record even more out-there and atmospheric? Give it to Burial to remix, of course. Predictably, the shadowy producer does a superb job reworking Monic's undeniably baked "Deep Summer", offering up a version vastly different from the red-eye sporting original. While Monic's version sounds like "Mezzanine"-era Massive Attack after a fistful of anti-depressants, Burial's take wraps the original's hazy female vocal samples (talking about the sunrise, no less) around lilting, marimba style melodies and gentle, tribal beats that are mixed so low you can barely hear them. Throw in some sun-kissed guitar motifs and heaps of vinyl crackle, and you have a genuine downtempo delight.

Review: Alongside the Great Circles label and a single release for The Trilogy Tapes, Philadelphia duo _moonraker's output has also come through the _bruxist platform. The _moonraker duo's return to the label comes in the form of the five-track Refracuity EP that comes full of the foggy, broken electronica we've come to expect from the Philadelphia-based experimental electronics scene, and each production here is as confusing, unhinged and murky as the next - the haunted glow, tubular phase action and mechanical repetition of "IIIII" is a particular highlight.

  1. Brass Mechanics (3:33)
  2. Tarahumara (3:07)
Review: Joe Williams' Motion Graphics was one of Andrew Field-Pickering's collaborators on the brilliant Lifted project (whose 1 album on PAN remains a modern day experimental, ambient-jazz classic), so it's little surprise to find him (or her) popping up on Future Times. "Brass Mechanic" is a brilliant chunk of head-spinning ambience, seemingly produced by painstakingly chopping up and rearranging clarinet, saxophone and synthesizer notes. Flip for "Traumhara", a similarly inclined chunk of manipulated, electronic ambient-jazz that pushes the (synthesized) clarinet lines to the fore. Both tracks are fiendishly experimental, but also undeniably ear pleasing. Watch out for the debut Motion Graphics LP coming on Domino if you like this 7".

Review: General Elektro's wicked little offshoot, Atelier Records, has been in a dormant state for a few years now, but we're always patiently waiting for their next episode to land on our shelves. There's just something that feels special, and highly curated, about these releases; from the scientific layout of their covers to their intricate analogue minimalism across the tunes, there's something naturally alluring about the catalogue. Moreover, they have a special sort of knack for making even the most obscure of artist names feel important, or at least part of a bygone era that the label is trying to keep alive. We have absolutely no idea who Muelliemess & The Happy Birds really are but, for a supposed group, they make some pretty eye-opening electronics; "Oratorium Fleisch" opens with a contorted set of analogue percussion and hardware fuzz - a striking 22 minutes of the stuff - whereas the B-side lands on more beat-centric territories such as "Acid Loop/Acid", the slow and dubbed-out haze of "195A" and "Crossing The Read Sea With Muellie Mess & The Happy Birds", which is all brought to a standstill through the vast jungle of atmospherics within ''Happy Birds". A truly singular EP. We love it.
