Getting High (7:14)
High Dub (4:30)
Acid Stars (2:26)
Just Feel It (5:50)
Round & Round (4:47)
Review: There seems to be a renewed interest around the work of New York City legend DJ Duke in recent years. With seminal works released as early as the '90s on his Power Music imprint, the man responsible for timeless house classics "Blow Ya Whistle", "Throw Ya Hands In The Air" and "Stuck In The Middle" curiously operated under another alias - Electro Force. The Scandinavian artiste's love of bass heavy breakbeat sounds is on full display here. We're particularly enjoying the intoxicating smack electro of opener "Getting High", the lo-slung 303 euphoria of "Acid Stars", the groovy b-boy swagger of "Just Feel It" and dubby tool "Round & Round".

Review: The propulsive, tectonic Force of Electro is embodied in the eponymous moniker, returning for their its release since 1997 (notable indeed, that the multi-moniker artist should return to this one only now). Six masterclassics in the mode of acid electro beckon us into alternate frenzies, highlights among these experiences being the central banger 'Beyond After Dark' and the lesser-spottable ambi-acid closer, 'Beyond The Beats'.

Trans Nepturian (6:15)
Haumea Transform (5:34)
Dysnomia (4:06)
Review: Modular Expansion is 10 years old and to mark the occasion they have curated this special limited edition release from EMEX aka George Apergis. It comes on nice clear blue vinyl and musically unfolds in "Hi'iaka and Dysnomia, the outer moons of the trans-Neptunian dwarf planet Haumea." It is music with a deep space atmosphere hard stomping drums that take you ever further away from planet earth. Minimal arps trip you out while smeared pads add scale and a cinematic feel. It's pure, futuristic, heady techno in which to get utterly lost.

Review: Robert Witschakowski has been a man on an electro mission (as well as many other side mission, to be really quite honest) for as long as we can remember. His furtherment of electro knows no bounds and it has often come in association with Dutch label Clone and its offshoots, though here he has his They Arrive EP reissued by fellow Dutch label Creme Organization. It landed first back in 2011 but has aged like fine wine and sounds as good as ever - there are a mix of creepy and atmospheric pieces, sick dancefloor rhythms and plenty more to enjoy here.

Getting Closer
Never Be Enough
Can You See It?
Infinite Dimensions
SL-W D-WN
Review: We've lost count of the various projects Robert Witschakowski has been involved in this year, but the Some Other Places series of releases on Clone's West Coast Series is up there with the German's best work as The Exaltics. This hand-stamped purple 12" is the third and final part and contains some fine electro for both the dancefloor and the living room. Opening this five-track release is the snare shaking and in your face ambient intro of "Getting Closer" which is followed by a melodic and grouchy key driven "Never Be Enough". The EP's highlights are "Can You See It" and "SL-W D-WN", which respectively are dubby and mellow and dusty and break beat. Seriously, does Witschakowski sleep?

Some Other Place
Waves Of Fear
The Way Out
Different Ways
Review: As the title suggests, Some Other Place Volume 2 is the second installment of a triptych of releases from The Exaltics for The Clone West Coast series. As with previous music from the Solar One boss, the four tracks here see The Exaltics look to both American and Dutch schools of electro but the results are nonetheless distinguished by his own unique signifiers. The title track sets the tone nicely as waves of sumptuous blurred noise ride a supple skeletal rhythm, whilst "Waves Of Fear" lives up to it's paranoid title with a marauding low end bass line the dominating element on a classic slab of darkside electro. "The Way Out" is perhaps the most conventional track here, with Witschakowski laying down an atmospheric but club ready 808 workout which is still a cut above thanks to the German's arrangement skills. Which leaves room for the slower, weirder and mushy excellence of "Different Ways".

VA EP 20 Years
VA EP 20 Years (limited marbled vinyl 12")
Cat: PUZZ 022. Rel: 06 Apr 23
The Exaltics - "All Of This" (5:34)
Freddie Fresh - "K-64 (Elekt-ro-Funk)" (4:17)
Neil Landstrumm - "Zosey" (4:46)
Umwelt - "Celestial Mechanics" (5:12)
Review: To mark a mighty impressive 20 years of PuZZling records in 2023, the label has put together this heavyweight mix of names for an EP that sounds as good as it looks on marbled vinyl. It's a truly global affair with artists from all over the world and The Exaltics kick off with 'All Of This', a typically rugged slide of electro. From there the quality never dips with Freddie Fresh jacking your body, the legendary Neil Landstrumm bringing his textbook machine madness and Umwelt closing down with 'Celestial Mechanics'. Old school electro, acid and techno heads take note, this is a must-buy.

Noosphere (5:10)
Noosphere (Overlook remix) (5:45)
Review: Downtempo dystopi-techno from London's brokntoys, who've been going since 2013. The six tracks contained on this EP by Exhausted Modern scour every depth of the frequency spectrum, producing a cosmic affair that challenges our presumptions about cause-and-effect itself (hence the title 'Notions Of Causality', perhaps). For example, 'Raised From Awareness' is a trans-perceptive chugger which cycles through phasey dubby drums and weird paradigmatic zones, while 'Noosphere' brings atmospherics to the abstract, sonically describing the biospheric plane of human reason.

Tricky (4:25)
Illapa (4:59)
Universe (6:00)
52598 (6:01)
Review: It's five up for the Future Tones label and taking charge for this latest 12" is Jorge Gamarra feat Ecstatic. Gamarra has been featured on plenty of different labels up to now, always with quality levels remaining high. Nothing changes here as 'Tricky' kicks off with a bit of tech house intrigue - unresolved loops and freaky sounds. 'Illapa' is a more dark and turbulent space-tech workout and 'Universe' then bumps on big drums with taught synths and 90s motifs while closer '52598' spins out on bleeps and warped pads that are heart of the dance floor perfection.

Enervation (6:52)
Review: Craigie Knowes is a by-word for electronic quality and now Eluize keeps up that reputation with a mini-album that blends electro, techno, house and space age sounds into six superb cuts. 'Ennui' is the acid flecked opener which heads off into outer space on slippery electro and 'Wasn't Ready' offers a more hard hitting and high tempo sound with punishing drum work. Next to serve up this new EP, Eluize has also recently recently launched a mentoring programme focusing on supporting womxn, non-binary and trans people in production, performance and label management.
