  1. No Era (7:09)
  2. No Era (Alex Jann Planet Transmit mix) (5:36)
  3. No Era (Secret Universe Biosphere mix) (5:58)
Review: Adam Shelton returns to his breaks/electro alias A-Future once again with "No Era". Taking off where the launch release "Cybernetic" left us, it's another tense rolling jam that nods back to the very foundations but with added 2020 production punch. Think Tim Wright jamming with Ed DMX and you're on the right path. Remix-wise Alex Jann lays down a pacier, more layered set of rhythm logistics while mysterious alias Secret Universe closes with an authentic jungle reversion, imagine Tim Reaper in a chilled mode and you're on the right star-path.

Yossi Amoyal Presents Fluere IV
  1. A1 People - "Do It" (Metamatics remix)
  2. Kosmogonik - "Circuitry"
  3. Silicon Scally - "Relay"
  4. Matt Chester - "November Pathways"
  5. CiM - "Recursive"
Review: Since Zip and Villalobos made it one of their coveted deep digs to be heard pealing out of a thousand after hours sessions, the Metamatics remix of A1 People has been a teasingly out of reach dream grab for many a minimal electro head. Now Yossi Amoyal has done the good deed of getting the track remastered and repressed as part of his Fluere series toasting 15 years of Sushitech. As well as that masterclass of elegant machine funk, there's also Kosmogonik's mind-bendingly brilliant 'Circuitry', Silicon Scally's body-popping electro-noir 'Relay' and Matt Chester's melancholic 'November Pathways' to keep your up-all-night marathon sets peppered with spangled surprises.

Defend Your Planet
  1. The Advent & Zein Ferreira - "Defend Your Planet" (4:41)
  2. Assembler Code - "Line Of Sight" (5:19)
  3. Carl Finlow - "Syncopated Automated" (6:57)
  4. Versalife - "SH09" (6:02)
Review: This is a special sampler 12" taken from the Various Artists compilation Defend Your Planet that Avoidant Records put out. It features a heavyweight crew of electro mainstays, first of which are The Advent & Zein Ferreira. Their 'Defend Your Plane' is a turbo powered cosmic assault with skewed synths and high speed drums. Assembler Code's 'Line Of Sight' doesn't let up, powering on through sheet metal snares and juddering drum programming and then man like Carl Finlow layers in prickly melodies, dark sci-fi energy and booming bass. Analogue master Versalife shits things down with the shadowy 'SH09.'

Cat: AESP 001. Rel: 11 Feb 19
  1. House In Blue Rain (5:42)
  2. Dancing Moon (7:55)
  3. Throne Of Clay (6:51)
Review: A new project based out of Copenhagen - Aether's Spring comes shrouded in mystery but makes a bold statement with this first transmission. WATER: Dancing Moon 12" leads in with "House In Blue Rain," a downcast track bathed in melancholic pads and blown out percussion around a steady 4/4 tick. "Dancing Moon" is a more kinetic affair that works with all kinds of synth shapes alongside some primal drum machine percussion that lends the track a new wave quality that suits it just fine. Closer "Throne Of Clay" spreads across the B side in a brooding, journeying epic fit for the likes of classic James Holden or a more wave-minded Jon Hopkins.

  1. Mimis (5:15)
  2. Helfand (5:31)
  3. Adax_PCP (6:06)
  4. Scalex (4:42)
Review: The Axces label began last year with a split 12" from Kasper Marott and Alfredo92, and now the latter returns to the label he founded to present a full EP of interlocking electronics with an experimental, home-listening slant. "Mimis" centres around some wonderfully sculpted rhythms and a tasteful dose of dub processing, while "Helfand" takes things further out with dislocated machine chatter and bongo triggering that moves like electro without the 808 backbone. "Adax_PCP" is a crafty slice of crooked techno that plays out with a live, jammed vibe and a jazzy key refrain that brings some noticeable humanity into the track, and then "Scalex" completes the set with further synthetic wobbles around fractured rhythms that look beyond genre conventions to create something truly fresh.

  2. Fantastic Man - "On The Run" (5:54)
  3. ESB - "Sequential Dub" (6:44)
  4. 2wo2imes - "Immune" (6:40)
Review: With previous appearances from talents such as D. Tiffany, Iron Curtis and Priori, Canadian label 00:AM bring you their fourth various artists compilation. On the A side of 00AM 004, they roped in two artists that they've have had the pleasure of hosting in Montreal over the past couple years: the inimitable DJ Fett Burger, who gives Copenhagen's Alfredo92 (Axces) a woozy slo-mo acid rework of his 'Tente Hjul' (XB3711 F3 Remix). This one is perfect tackle for getting weird at the afterhours. On the flip it's clearly more of a dub techno affair, and where this EP really got us moving and grooving: Vancouver's Elan Benaroch aka ESB with the rolling and hypnotic "Sequential Dub", followed by the glacial and cavernous thump of "Immune" by 2wo2imes taking you deeper into the Quebec winter frost.

  4. Out There (K1 mix) (5:12)
  5. Recordman (Minimal Vox mix) (5:12)
Review: It's time to tune into those weird and wonderful frequencies from Alien FM once again. This time the intergalactic space travelers serve up their Monochromatic Images, a five track transmission from outer space that leaves you breathless. The titular track is a busy and bumping electro cut with organic pianos draped over squelchy and synthetic bass. "Recordman" is a much crunchier and more dystopian affair complete with freaky vocals, then "Out There" is a stripped back, sublime electro rhythm that is perfectly mysterious. Two further mixes close out a super tight EP.

  1. Dial The Deal (5:49)
  2. The Empress (6:35)
  3. This Is The Way (6:41)
  4. Second Sun (5:37)
Review: Ready for another All Nighter? Not the boring work or study related round-the-clocker we sometimes have to endure but the fun ones when you never want the party to end. This one (the second from the anonymous artist this year) even tells the tale of the best sunrise/sunset sesh. 'Dial A Deal' is the pre-drinks prep. Full of energy and a little analog edge. 'The Empress' plays the consummate role of the club itself, devouring you with her softer focus, rippling 90s synths. 'This Is The Way' is full mission mode, locking you in way beyond your bedtime before the sprightly Ian Pooley-style jacking shimmers of 'Second Sun' soundtrack your blissful mooch back home. Sweet dreams.

  1. River Bed Sleep (4:53)
  2. Untitled 1 (3:48)
  3. Gahnum (7:30)
Review: Last year, one-time R&S Records artist Alma Construct returned to action after a two-year absence, joining forces with J Wiltshire on the freshly minted Super Hexagon Records imprint. Here he flies solo on the same imprint, showcasing his take on Detroit style electro. Opener "River Bed Sleep" is a high octane, funk-fuelled affair, with fizzing synth lines and spacey electronics wrapped around a punchy beat box groove. "Track 2" cleverly mangles electro and experimental D&B flavours, a trick repeated on breathless, acid-fuelled flipside cut "Untitled 1". The slower, more considered "Gahnum" - think cinematic strings, Balearic melodies and crusty drum machine beats - completes a solid package.

  2. 808 Trax (1:50)
  3. Armambo (BMG remix) (1:45)
  4. We Leave Tonight (Erika remix) (3:26)
Review: RMXD is Armando 'Alpha 606' Martinez' second release on Interdimensional Transmissions and is the rather tardy follow up to 2008's Electronica Afro-Cubano. Flanked by high-profile remixers, Martinez does well to impress with "808 Trax". A linear drum track takes a ride through an inner city at night, the screeches, groans and howls of its nocturnal population kept under the surface by steely claps. Label owner BMG's take on "Armambo" is similarly inclined, this time with spacey undercurrents fusing with tight 808s. Erika's version of "We Leave Tonight" is a more understated deep techno track, while at the other end of the spectrum, Anthony Shakir turns "808 Trax" into a full-on, drum-heavy techno track that is more complex than a spaghetti junction at rush hour.

  4. Machine Outil (Umwelt remix) (5:46)
Review: Amato brings the kind of nasty electro business that fits right in on Helena Hauff's mighty Return To Disorder stable, and you know it's serious from the opening strains of the VHS noir monster "Escape From Grenoble 2018". "Hydraulic Funk" takes things slower, coming on like a freaky Frak flipside and sounding excellent for it. "Machine Outil" takes things in a more muscular direction that sounds built for bench presses and body jerks - the consummate peak time sledgehammer. Umwelt takes this sturdy starting point and demolishes it into a hailstorm of acid malevolence that'll melt your face clean off.

  3. Phase Fatale - "Cursing Losses" (5:20)
  4. Roman - "Break The Matrix" (5:51)
Review: The KHIDI label kicks off with a stern statement of intent from a batch of blackened souls in the techno domain. First up is Ancient Methods, who marches forth with the militant brutalism of "Cradle The True Side Of Reality" before OTHR turns in some cinematic EBM-flavoured intensity with "Damage Your Pain". Berlin-based Berghain warrior Phase Fatale turns up on the B-side with the hard thrum of "Cursing Losses", before Roman delivers the finishing blow with the mean-spirited surge of "Break The Matrix". This is maximalist techno with an industrial bite just begging to be heard clanging around darkened cathedrals of endless night.

  2. S II P - "Untitled" (7:50)
  3. Peshka - "Basic Instinct" (10:55)
Review: Bristol house imprint Banoffee Pies return with more subtle and hypnotic grooves. On the A side is the mysterious Jay Anderson with "Didn't Care Too Much". While not much is known of him yet, we are sure that will change once people listen to this track: deep minimal house that crosses over into electro much in the vein of Frenchman TC80 or what his peers on Japan's Cabaret imprint are doing right now. Next up, Greek up and comer Simonas Paplauskas serves up the rolling and entrancing afterhours cut "Untitled" which takes its cues from the current sounds of Romania: an immaculate production. On the flip, the entire side is handed over to Ukrainian producer Peshka, who delivers another jagged yet downright wacky and unique take on reduced grooves with "Basic Instinct".

Review: More dark, euphoric and moody dancefloor 12"'s from Lobster Theremin's new sublabel UNDR. Following a terrific inauguration by Hidden Spheres, the second edition comes courtesy of Andrew Red Hand. The Romainian producer who has previously released on labels such as Twilight 76, M>O>S and Chiwax kicks things off with the spooky, cinematic John Carpenter-goes-electro vibe of "In The Cemetery", before bringing in the brooding Italo-influenced gloom of "Slaying The Dictator" and even displaying a fondess for the acid life (but hey don't we all) on the wicked 303 grind of "Bombing For Peace".

  4. Destroy This Fucking System (4:34)
Review: Mancunian lo-fi house heroes Natural Sciences are back with a bang in 2018: now giving us a second serving of throwback electro sounds courtesy of one Antonio Barbetta. He has had some great releases recently as Raw Ambassador on Mannequin and Ortloff. The Germany based Italian producer serves up what the label best described themselves as 'panzer funk and mechanised thrash metal from the shadows of Frankfurt's industrial district' and that's pretty spot on! There's the guttural futurist sludge of opening track "A Violent Collision" that will appeal to fans of Lux Rec or Return To Disorder, not to mention other excursions through heavy dystopian machine funk like on "Destroy This Fucking System". The breakneck "Adriatic Funk" is a full frontal assault that calls to mind the UK sounds of Bass Junkie & Dexorcist from a while back, while "Cyborg" is a fitting tribute to his new hometown's favourite son: the one and only Anthony Rother.

Review: Some proper UK electro here courtesy of ARA-U, a Venezuelan producer based in London. With a previous release coming out on Keith Tenniswood's AFT (on which he collaborated with him under his legendary Radioactive Man alias), it's a sound characterised by pure machine funk, with his inaugural release coming out on his new label No Static. From the raw voltage of haunting downtempo journey "Black Hole' to the breakneck acid electro funk of "Disintegration" the A side definitely does the business. On the flip, "Arvo's Sound Speech" is a total boomer on its own merit, but next up receives a "Slinky Deep Remix" by the ever reliable Carl Finlow - whose idiosyncratic style of dystopia takes it to another level.
