Review: Flying Lotus' expanding Brainfeeder imprint takes a big step and expands its crew beyond the Los Angeles area that is proving such a fertile ground for leftfield beats. Illinois-based producer Lorn's debut album Nothing Else is littered with hip-hop inspired beats and heavily atmospheric, exploring the murky side of electronica whilst never straying too far into heavily experimental tones. Broody at times, Nothing Else explores a wide range of moods and showcases this 23-year-old's production prowess - top picks include the rolling crunch of "Bretagne" and the ominous growl of "Tomorrow".

Review: Home marks the long overdue follow up to Nosaj Thing's excellent debut set Drift, released on Alpha Pup way back in 2009. Described as a very personal record by Chung in interviews, this sense of introspectiveness certainly comes across in a cohesive eleven track set. Fans will no doubt be happy to hear there is plenty of the heady instrumental beat work that Nosaj Thing made his name on with "Snap" and "Phase III" stand out tracks - it is however Chung's decision to work with vocalists that add another dimension to his sound. You should be familiar with "Eclipse/Blue", the lead single that featured Blonde Redhead's Kazu Makino and the Toro Y Moi featuring "Try" is equally sublime.

Review: Modern Love's newest release comes from British beatmaker Zomby, who has reached into his archives to unearth a long lost album nearly a decade after its completion. Said to be recorded between two weeks around 2008-2009, the Mercury's Rainbow LP sees the London based producer interpreting grime innovator Wiley's Eskibeat productions, which played an instrumental role in the genre's formation. It features the 4AD/Hyperdub affiliated artist utilising intricately hand-programmed arpeggios, 'sliding Triton squares' and post-garage drum patterns. On a conceptual level, it uses theories of colour and its relation to the sonic chromatic spectrum - the circle of fifths.
