  3. Ill Truth & Satl - "In Your Soul" (feat Charli Brix - Lenzman remix) (5:17)
  4. Total Science & FD - "3 Way" (4:54)
Review: One look at who's involved here should raise any drum and bass head's eyebrows. All genre A-listers, it's one of those release schedule entries that's guaranteed to get everyone excited, and thankfully the pudding is just as tasty as those ingredients. Break & Kyo lead the charge with 'Past North', a summertime anthem-in-the-making opening on acoustic guitar chords that wouldn't sound weird on a Me One record. Definitely one for festivals, boxfresh percussion ensures it fully fires off once the poppier elements temporarily subside. That said, DJ Marky's 'Hard Hands' trumps it for crisp drum work, delivering some typically exotic vibes. Ill Truth and Satl's 'In Your Soul', or at least its Lenzman remix, keeps the sexy and smooth warmth alive, with '3 Way' closing out on a dub-influenced tip courtesy of Total Science and FD.

  4. Truespirit - "Deep In The Jungle" (4:06)
Review: Reissue time! As New York jungle pillars Liondub International celebrate 10 years they've put together some of the hardest hitting bangers of their previous "Jungle To The World" collections on this powerful piece of wax. All the right vibes in all the right places, these all sound future fresh: DJ Hybrid's swashbuckling Dread bass backflips on "Special Request", the absolute bashy bless from Horace Andy and Marcus Visionary on "Sound Killer", the warmer reggae soul bubbles of Visionary's "Hustlin" and Truespirit's purring late 90s two-step homage "Deep In The Jungle". No filler in sight whatsoever.

Gravity Remixed (clear vinyl 12")
Cat: SMDELP 04RXLTD. Rel: 26 Nov 19
  1. Svalsat (Donato Dozzy remix) (6:54)
  2. Red Tide (Tommy Four Seven remix) (4:20)
Review: Now this is what Samurai are all about... Bringing musical worlds together, identifying kindred spirits regardless of their perceived musical genre and galvanising the link between techno and drum & bass. Take these remixes from Homemade Weapons' "Gravity" album. First up is cult Italian artist Donato Dozzy's first ever D&B release in which he takes "Svalsat" and whips up a genuinely unique rhythm that subverts the triplet model in a trippy and alluring way before Tommy Four Seven takes "Red Tide" to shreds in the most brutal way imaginable. Industrial strength and entirely respectful to Homemade Weapons' originals. This is an exceptional remix 12".

  3. Trex - "Stay High" (5:37)
Review: It's nothing but stark steppery from the off on Transmute as Law & Wheeler sharpen their drums and space things out on a Source Direct level. Driven by the steps but powered by the warped low end, it's a timeless piece that swallows you whole. The consistently on-point Tim Reaper delivers some mind-altering drum edits on the junglised "Floating Through" while Mac 2 affiliate Trex nods his head to the likes of Krust with "Stay High", a cosmic sojourn that develops with increasing layers of trippiness. Powerful.

No Escape (12")
Cat: PSYCHODYNAMIK 07. Rel: 19 Sep 18
  1. Le Peuple De L'Herbe - "No Escape" (feat Uk Apache) (6:02)
  2. Tomawok - "Party Time" (feat Perfect Giddimani - Kursiva remix) (4:06)
  3. Tomawok - "My Sound" (Benny Page remix) (3:45)
  4. Isaac Maya & Mekha - "Bad Inna Dance" (feat Ranking Diximal) (6:17)
Review: PsychoQuake offshoot PsychoDynamik has long specialized in compilation style EPs brimming with ragga-fired jungle business and ruffneck drum and bass rollers. That's what you get on the sub-label's sizzling seventh release. Ragga toaster UK Apache rhymes at breathtaking speed over Le Peuple De L'Herbe's hot-stepping, dub-fired D&B riddim on punchy opener "No Escape", while fellow mic man Perfect Giddimani makes a similarly positive impression on Kursiva's reggae-drum and bass remix of Tomawok's jaunty "Party Time". Flip for Benny Page's more jungle-tinged - but similarly minded - remix of Tomawok's "My Sound" and the fantastically raw, rolling jungle/dub fusion of Isaac Maya and Mekha's "Bad Inna Dance".

  4. Ssiege - "Sogno In BB" (3:46)
  5. Rawmance - "Mondonotte, La Mattina Dopo" (Security re-drums) (3:30)
Review: La Beaute Du Negatif's fourth multi-artist EP arrives with little fanfare or fuss. Instead, the Rome-based label has decided to simply offer-up the EP and let us come to our own conclusions. For what it's worth, ours is that it's well worth checking - especially Monomorph's blissful, acid-flecked IDM opener "Rystal", which previously appeared on a hard-to-find CD way back in 1996. There are plenty of highlights elsewhere across the EP, though. Head first for the sparse, spacey cheeriness of Brainwaltzera's "Phos Harbinger", before getting your ears around the ambient jungle-techno brilliance of "Opener" by The Jaffa Kid. This is followed on side B by the shuffling, sun-kissed downtempo grooves of SSIEGE's "Sogno In BB" and a drowsy, mind-altering chunk of late 90s Warp Records style electronica by Rawmance.

  4. Tim Reaper - "Track 4" (7:18)
Review: 7th Storey Projects welcome back Necrotype and Tim Reaper for the "Exclusive To Bandcamp EP", which isn't actually available on Bandcamp. It's an adventurous outing that covers all bases - Necrotype takes care of the a side with "Track 1": all pitch-shifted hardcore vocals and rinsing breakbeats with a mellow but euphoric feel, while "Track 2" is similar but with even more energy in the drums. Tim Reaper steps up first for the ravey banger that is "Track 3" before rounding things off with the a blissed out and intergalactic roller ("Track 4)". These two might be young guns, but they certainly know what they're doing.

Review: What a year to be a Threshold enthusiast: first came his crucial "Blackboard" EP on AKO Beatz, now his return to Fresh 86 with four more singular cuts. As the title suggests, it's a deep space mission from the off; those big paranoid chords and foreboding organs on the title track, the zero gravity breaks and textures of "Velvet Pum", the turbine bass and creepy harmonics of "Talking Reece" and the all-out asteroid bounding jungle finale "Mars Attacks". Galvanised by a strong nod to Moving Shadow but done packing a 2020 punch, Threshold's on an incredible roll this year.

Review: Previously spotted collaborating with Western Lore boss Dead Man's Chest on Rupture, Manchester murker Thugwidow comes correct with his first EP on the label and it's an almighty assault of the senses with all styles covered. "Hard Rave Aesthetic" is a proper raver call to arms with its almost psy-like narrative structure and epic sense of energy and urgency while the beautifully far-out "A Cluster Of Angry Repeating Thoughts" bends breaks like a Dali painting. Deeper heads may prefer to wallow in the cosmic spaciousness of "Blunt End Of The Heel" while "The Phone Never Rings For Good News" ensures we all have the poignant, barbed soul cheerio we deserve. Go hard or go home.

Review: Fire in the hole! Following his Metalheadz EP earlier this year, Newcastle's Tyrone steps over to good mates Ulterior Motive at Guidance for a full four-track slab of D&B excellence. The title track is an absolute beast that slices through the air and space with incredible weight and width while elsewhere "Beg Of U" takes us on a tour of Tyrone's deeper space-aged side, "Lost Witness" rolls out with rattling menace and muscle and "Velvet" closes the deal on a deep introspective one with the label heads. Prepare to be severed.

Review: Shogun duo Technicolour and Komatic cut their third album to deluxe wax comprising two white 12"s and two coloured 10"s... And it sounds every bit as good as it looks. Soulful yet varied in its scope and range, it's the most confident and clearest LP the duo have given us so far as it ranges from the darker, gnarlier minimal twists of "True Believer" to the more signature flourishing orchestration of cuts like "Weightless (feat Lucy Kitchen)" and naked introspection such as "The Nightfall (feat Jono McCleery)". And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Potential drum & bass album of the year.

Review: It's been a fair old while since Dennis "Dego" McFarlane last donned the Tek9 alias, a solo pseudonym he first used in 1991 on the bass-heavy, Bleep and hardcore influenced weightiness of "Kingdom Of Dub". This album - his first under the name since 1999's jazzy and downtempo "Simply" - is not entirely new, but all of the music is previously unreleased. The tracks were produced at various points between 1995 and 2019 and mostly offer warm, melodious, funk-fuelled takes on jungle and drum and bass rich in bustling basslines, snare-heavy beats, jazz-funk chords (something that has long been a feature of McFarlane's work) and picturesque melodies. There are some heavier, rougher and more ragga-influenced cuts present, but the prevailing vibe is warm and positive.
