  1. White Flag VIP (4:32)
  2. Arcadia (feat Metrik) (3:09)
Review: Switching a lighter raising ballad with the energy and gusto of a sugar-high kid at Christmas, Delta Heavy's "White Flag VIP" has been anticipated since Andy C started teasing it around his Alexandra Palace show. Already loaded with feels, the new double time drums add even more emotion and euphoria. Flip for an out-and-out electrical fire as they team up with Metrik for a balls-out, peak time slap session. Excruciatingly good.

Oscillator (12")
Ram
Cat: RAMM 214. Rel: 30 Mar 16
  1. Oscillator (4:12)
  2. Fun House (3:46)
Review: Taken from their long-awaited debut album Paradise Lost, Ram roustabouts Delta Heavy deliver two distinct party bombs: "Oscillator" is a guttural growler with a staccato riff and tumbling tripletty drums and a second drop that shreds all the way up from Hades itself. "Fun House" shows the duo's more mischievous side as a post-jump-up riff licks with an atonal forked tongue over titanium beats. Immense.

  1. Event Horizon (4:30)
  2. Pathways (4:12)
  3. Cut Me (4:10)
  4. City Of Dreams (4:35)
Review: Delta Heaviness: this debut album has been on the cards since the UK duo signed to Ram in 2010 and they've not disappointed. Four of the 14 tracks, pressed to double 12", it's a sizzling synapse-snapping screenshot of where Ben and Si are at: feather-ruffling electrified bass, spatterings of rifle guitar blasts and beats so strong they could melt concrete. Climaxing with the hands-in-the-air vocal slap-down "City Of Dreams", each of these four cuts are primed for the peakest of peak hours. Delta Heaven.

  1. Rejection (remix) (6:28)
  2. Water Bucket (drum & bass remix) (7:09)
  3. Water Bucket (original mix) (5:46)
Review: Soundsystem professor Digital maintains his spotless flow this year with another dynamite 12" on his own Function imprint. "Rejection" should be known to all - a powerful roller that's soundtracked many a Rupture gets a drum rework and added energy from the man himself before we drop into two versions of "Water Bucket". The original is a 140 vibe with classic dub waves and ripples, lush horns, toxic subs and a militant stomp while the drum & bass remix ups the energy with some turbine amens and a drone bass that squeezes your inner ears with insistency. Classic Digital.

"Strictly DNB" lashes and splashes with such a bright, energetic amen you'll swear you'll never miss another sermon at your local church ever again. Loaded with vibrant dub skanks, if you've caught any of his recent sets, you'll know how much this kicks off. Flip for "Time Out". A bubbling dub odyssey rolling at halftime tempo, it's Digital showing his roots and more reflective side with rich, precision sonic science. Pure class.

Rogue Style 2 EP (limited 140 gram white vinyl 12" + MP3 download code)
Cat: DICA 005. Rel: 25 Apr 18
  1. Digital - "Uprock" (5:22)
  2. 6Blocc, Calculon & Shamanga - "Call Out" (4:20)
  3. Fanu - "Machinedrummachine" (4:36)
  4. Agzilla - "Tessellation" (5:08)
Review: Defrostatica's latest release features a veritable rogues gallery of new and established drum and bass talents. Chief amongst them is long-serving producer Digital, who kicks things off with the pop-gun synth-bass, intricate percussion edits and manipulated rave stabs of "Uprock". Speaking of razor-sharp, quick-fire drum edits, you'll find plenty more on the post-jungle madness of 6Blocc, Calculon and Shamanga's superb "Call Out". Turn to the flip for Fanu's fearsome "Machine Drum Machine" - think punchy D&B with added pots and pans percussion - and the hot-to-trot, early morning sub-bass pressure of Agazilla's dark and creepy "Tessellation".

  1. Digital - "Motherland" (4:47)
  2. Digital & Response - "Silver Lining" (Seba remix) (6:03)
  3. Digital & Villem - "Lost Civilisation" (6:01)
Review: Heaviness klaxon: Digital is unleashing his fifth album right now and it's one of his best bodies of work in his 22 year production history. The tone is set by the currently unavoidable "Motherland". Smashed by the likes of Storm for well over a year now, its vocal charm and beat weight are so well balanced you'll never want the track to finish. Elsewhere Seba applies his own stripped back charm on the mystic "Silver Lining" while Villem taps in for an Aztec odyssey. Ridiculously on-point. And there's more to come.

  1. Deaddial (6:04)
  2. Revolution (6:02)
Review: Two stone cold dons of the game, Digital & Spirit continue to build on their new slew of collaborations with this epic two part EP. "Deaddial" is a mutant blend of Digital's "Deadline" and Spirit's "Dial-up/Redial" that fans have been asking about for what feels like dubplate eternity while "Revolution" is the Ipswich pair at their snakiest; rattled percussion, subtle soul and a lurking sense of restrained menace. Vive la revolution!

  2. Small World (4:58)
Review: Ding ding, round two. Following the long-awaited "Deaddial" and "Revolution", Digital & Spirit's latest EP continues to shatter a second slab of wax. "Phantom 2018" brings their 1999 game-changing bleep hypno-hurter "Phantom Force" up to speed with a full rebuild on all the elements that punch with a perfect balance of modern weight but the classic Digital & Spirit wall of sound feel. "Small World" is a brand new construction laced with their signature fabrics. Pummelling breaks, treacle subs and a strident dubby synth hook that's tailored for 3am+ moments. No one does it like these guys.

The moment those drums on "Total Control" hit you with hardcore mischief, you know what type of mood Digital is in right here. No prisoners taken! You (limited gold vinyl 12")
Cat: DDD 07T. Rel: 24 Jul 18
  1. You (5:18)
  2. King Of The Beats (7:06)
Review: Dom returns to his Dubs Dungeon once again and re-opens the Dillinja crypt for two more long-coveted dubplates. "You" is fresh from 94 with subs so thick and misty they'll freeze you to your bones and breaks so sharply edited you now have pierced ears just reading this short review, this was a major missile for the AWOL massive. "King Of The Beats" is a year or two deeper into Dillinja's unmatchable discography with a killer b-boy sample, rocket fuel drums and a waspy bassline that stings from a 10 mile radius. Jungle royalty.

Review: While the world and their dog continues to drop his last hit "UK" in myriad creative mixes, Dimension follows it up with more peak time heavyweight massiveness; "Generator" is a big sing-along set-finale with a pumped-funk bassline while "Beg & Borrow" tips a nod at peers MTA mates Chase & Status with a stern spoken word vocal and a dangerous tech-edged drop. Then we have the special vinyl-only ">>>>_Error". What a twist to the tale... This can't be slept on.

Review: D&B darling Rob Dimension does it again... Both "Automatik" and "Hydraulic" capture both sides of D&B's ever-flipping coin right now. The former tips a slight nod at Rob Swire with its space-aged vocal processing, hookiness and Sub Focus style hook while the latter takes us much deeper into the dance with a brutal techy swing. Serious mechanical mischief both tailored squarely for the biggest crowds.

  1. 20 Questions (6:52)
  2. Bluffing (5:41)
Review: Dissect, Sicknote and J Bionic wheel up and come again with their third Paws release. Two sides, two authentic vibes: "20 Questions" has a Spirit style vibe with gentle chords that rise and fall over some immaculate percussion positioning. Twenty questions asked, none of them answered... You've got to work them out for yourself. "Bluffing" is a trippy, heavily swung jam with a cosmic top end and dark gnarly bottom end in a way that could be compared to Krust's "Maintain" era. Paws for thought eh?

Review: Those DATS keep getting unearthed and remastered as Dlux and Persian Prince hit the fifth volume in the series. Once again, it's an open and shut case of music that was decades ahead of its time. Spacey to the point of psychedelic, freeform to the point of jazz; Dlux was a master at those lean unpredictable grooves that have stood the test of time so well. Highlights include the sudden chops into funk breaks on "Drummer's Return" and the frantic gamey 8 bit bubbles of "I Gotcha Part 2". Ageless slammage.

  3. Shadow Moses - "Phreeks" (3:52)
  4. CDN - "Bonus Beat" (3:23)
Review: New Berlin beat-fusers FreiTanzPlatten levels up with another four-track fresh-talent package. Melting down the spirit of jungle, ghetto-tech and footwork with a strong dollop of b-boy, the whole package could just as well sit in a techno set as it could a drum & bass set. Leipzig's DJ DR-660 sparks up with a pace Godfather vibe, all Detroit and no graces. Thinh's "Yellow Balm" rolls with more of a jazzy rolling jungle haze while Shadow Moses's "Phreeks" goes turbo electro. Finally CDN wraps up with a fizzy, low-swung acid jam that wriggles with wily abandon. FTP smash it again.

Review: Previously spotted on 117 and Skeleton, DJ Future dents the AKO discog with four absolute jungle hell raisers. The doubled up drum slams on "Rebel Technology" will take years off your life and hairs off your head, "Twisted Fragments" plays the mentasm at a grade 10 level and "2 Pound Bet" wants to smother you in dubbed out horns and warm sweaty skanks. 2. Tactical Aspect - "Interference" (5:56)
Review: Trace's 117 imprint continues its historical future sermons with two classically trained contemporary jungle cuts. Future and Electric is a classic rave hammer cut: pneumatic drill kicks, a lavish gutsy soul vocal and spooked out Headz style bass. Tactical Aspect's "Interference", meanwhile, is a turbo charged roller that's loaded with crisp hi-hats, about six different bass textures and devilishly diced drum work. Got 187 on your mind? Review: MartianMan launches a brand new label Off-World Colonies and the mission statement is clear: to thrust as far and as deep into the cosmos with nothing but the power of breakbeats. To launch the label we have undercover agents DJ Gaff and Cityspeak who provide four timeless odysseys. "Technology" is all iced out and reminiscent of early Subtitles releases while "This Feeling" loosens up the drums again for a slinky space jam a la early Source Direct. "Dream Mechanics" is a much sharper, steppier flavour and "Skinjob" brings home the bacon at a cool 160. True to the craft.

Review: Two weeks after Off-World Colonies' launch mission, we plot Gaff & Cityspeak's journey through the jungle stars once again... Eight minute monster "Snake Scale" is all crunchy 150 hardcore before dipping right the way down to 120-ish on a vibed out house mid-section, "Procession" is a nutty acid jungle workout complete with a swooning emotional breakdown, "Jah Focus" is a deep dip into jazz with its loose rattling drums before "Rhythmic Desire" goes supernova with some insane drum edits and divine vocal sample that literally gives you the finger. Serious jungle business.

  1. Last Night
  2. Love Affair
Review: Brazil's DJ Marky is one of the few D&B guys still nurturing and developing his sound. It's a delicate mix of exotic, samba-filtered melodies and stunningly beautiful drum arrangements. The title track is exactly what we like to see: shuffling drums, esoteric melodies and suave lyrics. On the flip, "Love Affair" is similarly enchanting and Marky once-again proves everyone wrong by doing what he loves best. TIP!

Review: Dona's Plant Texture lays down more fresh produce in the form of the left-sided Italian beat selection. Dona takes the A-side with three versions; his RaveONine blend is a warped, woozy joint that tips a subversive nod towards to the trippier side of Detroit, his jungle mix lives up to its name with some classic breakwork while the Slow08 version takes us right into the middle of a gluey dancefloor, all slo-mo and sedative. Flip for three twists from fellow Italian Simoncinco; a wriggling acid groove, a thundering bleep-style dub and some rolling 909 drums for add creative mix pleasure. What a package. Ready for takeoff?

  1. DJ Plant Texture - "I Don't Dance" (7:37)
  2. DJ Shark - "Cat Ears" (6:41)
Review: DJ Plant Texture is this year's winner of 'production moniker of the year' (or at least he would be, should such an award actually exist). This 12" sees the Bari-based producer make his first appearance on DJ Haus' face-chewing, rave-inspired Unknown To The Unknown imprint. "I Don't Dance" is a typically full-throttle concoction, with the Italian producer making merry with mind-altering acid lines, snappy house rhythms and drowsy, ultra-deep chords. On the flip, Hungarian misfit Gnork dons his occasional "jungle techno" alias, DJ Shark, and delivers another typically spacey chunk of mid-90s D&B revivalism. It's rather fine, of course, and offers a refreshing alternative to the textured one's impressively manic A-side.

  3. Some Drum (5:02)
Review: Dolenz has found his spiritual home at Exit. A breeding ground for boundary-free beat creativity, his far-out fusions are in good company in dBridge's house. This label debut is no exception as we're treated to his broadest palette; the trapped bumps and cuts of "Evesdrop", the eastern string glaze and dense harmonies and chimes of "Geminus" and the sub-soaked swagger and planet-gazing dubbed out halftime of "Some Drum" all comprise and compound to make a serious statement of intent. We have no doubt the London artist will be back on Exit very soon.

Review: Two more stone cold artefacts from the golden era vaults: Dom & Roland continues to unearth more treasures in the form of "Phoenix" and "Tears In The Rain". The former is a Tech Itch co-lab from the mid 90s that charges with rusty drum edits and a drop into a stripped back sub groove and twisted shades of acid while the latter looks back to his "Mechanics" chapter with a rampant, heavily layered heads-down roll, spooked-out overtones and a classic Bladerunner sample. Just like the vinyls themselves, these are foundation-era gold.

But then if you've so much as microscanned at one of their legendary dances, or so much as peeped at their label output, you'll already know that. Four tracks from four of the most credible and respected names in modern jungle; Rupture co-founder Double O gets militant with his drum schooling on "The Lessons", Threshold pairs up some warm deejay bants with jerky detuned rave synths on "Crabs", Trax & Ricky Force take us to synth heaven on a turbulent amen rocket on "All You" while Greenleaf goes fully darkside with some fearsome cymbal smashing dark drum magic. Highly limited; this is knock out material.
