Review: Wilkinson gets his sample flex on with a big horn-coated seasonal roller. Joined by Wretch 32, the balance of early 2000s liquid soul is kept in check with his well-paced, spacious narration. As with previous Wilkinson heaters, this has potential to soundtrack the summer for many. For a deeper twist flip for Nu:Logic's twist where we're whisked away on a future-focused slink-out and an extended halftime drop provides ace space for Wretch's yarn. Expertly played.

  1. Basic Process (7:10)
  2. O To The M (6:07)
  3. Diviner (6:10)
Review: Not a huge amount is known about Zodiac Childs besides the fact that this is their debut release (under this name at least), Zodiac Wax is their label and the sounds are seriously intergalactic. All spacey breakbeat jams flexing around the 125 mark, there's a timeless cosmic rave feel laced throughout. "Basic Process" flutters with psy-like twinkles and Vamp-ish stabs, "O To The M" is a euphoric spine-melting vocal cut with some great doubled up drum layers while "Diviner" strips things right back to bare bones acid wriggles. Whatever your star sign, Zodiac Childs forecasts a groovy future.

Review: They don't call him a beast for nothing... Audio is one of the sharpest, most uncompromising engineers in D&B and has been since his Resonant Evil days. Ram's ace of spades, signing to the biggest label in D&B hasn't stopped him from pushing neuro and tech to its bitter, broken glass edge (and, often, beyond) As proved by his fifth album Beastmode. From the broken-brake speedway challenge hurtling dangerously out of control ("Creatures") to the absolute hell-raising detuned stabs and turbo engine reeses of "Thunder Ridge", this is Audio at his hardest, sharpest and furthest ahead of the curve.

  15. Bert H & All Mode - "Fallacy" (Zero T remix)
Review: Since making his debut in 2014, Moscow-based Bert H has rapidly become one of the rising stars of soulful drum & bass. His punchy, melodic and rolling productions have previously been showcased on a dizzying array of singles and EPs. Here, he finally delivers his debut album, a vibrant and colourful romp heavy on collaborations with fellow Russian soul-junglist High N Sick and like-minded producers Monroe and Silence Groove. He barely puts a foot wrong throughout, delivering weighty but ear-pleasing tunes that offer a superb balance between melodious musicality, attractive dreaminess and funk-fuelled D&B heaviness. In other words, it's a hugely enjoyable first full-length that gets better with every listen.

Review: Clearly, Black Sun Empire do not mess around. Their third full-length stretches across two CDs and features a string of collaborations with the great and the good of D&B, dubstep and hip-hop (Noisia, Foreign Beggars, Bless, Audio, Rido and Foreign Beggars all lend a hand). While the second CD does include some alternative versions, it's still an impressively expansive set. Musically, it sticks largely to drum & bass, flitting between darkroom rollers, tech-step business, liquid grooves and big room bangers, with the occasional excursion into old skool territory or melody-driven groovery. For fans and newcomers alike, there's plenty to enjoy, even if it is arguably a touch too long.

Review: Few have served the jungle and drum and bass scene with quite as much distinction as Nicky Blackmarket, a genuine scene pioneer who remains popular on the UK club circuit after three decades in the game. Given these credentials, you'd expect his latest mix CD - his first for two years - to be rather good. It's certainly a thrill-a-minute affair, with Blackmarket squeezing 50 slammers onto two CDs. You'll find jungle revivalism old and new, party-hearty jump-up faire, darker and more aggressive workouts, classic reggae and ragga influences, some deliciously dreamy liquid diversions and more mind-altering wobble basslines than your average Skrillex set. In other words, it's a top-drawer party-starting mix-up.

Review: A little under 18 months ago, London trio Blu Mar Ten celebrated 20 years in the game with their seventh album Empire State. Now comes the all-essential remix collection as an all-star cast of BMTM friends and kindred spirits provide their perspective. From Conduct's outstanding desert storm twist of "Delirium" to Need For Mirrors' finger-clicking sci-fi serenade via Signal's doom-heralding tubular roll-out of "Rollcage", every remix commands attention and deserves its place on this collection. And that's before we even mention Calibre and SpectraSoul. Drum & bass remix packages don't get much bigger than this.

Review: Majestic album from Calibre, who has long been heralded as a genius in D&B circles. His sixth studio album does nothing to dispel this belief and signals a return to his early noughties heyday when he knocked out sublime and understated but fully formed musical gems for fun. "Condition" has a slightly sunnier disposition than his 2010 long player Even If, but still retains the beautifully melancholic touch that has become Calibre's trademark. Standout tracks "Who's Singing" and "Mirage" are both haunting lessons in liquid and the tougher edged "Garbage Man" and "Schlager" are built for maximum impact. A must have.

Review: No other artist in the game could pull a stunt like this off: Such is his proliferation, Calibre's Shelflife series are his way of gathering ideas that he felt weren't right for single releases, or dubs that he just never got round to putting out. As with previous editions, the whole collection rolls like an album due to his consistent, spacious signature. Highlights: How about every track? You need specifics? The piano-slapping sunny-side opener "Latin Way", the big jazzy washes and lolloping rolls on "Model Way", the pushy, gritty breaks on "Spirit Catcher", the wriggling drums, stark minimalism and mid 2000s techno feel to the hook on "Underfire". We could go on and on. It's Calibre - you know what to do.

Review: Chase & Status are easily among that small band of drum & bass artists who transcend the genre. It's for this reason that the release of this fourth album - their first since 2013 - is big news not just within the D&B community, but the wider dance music scene, too. So is it any good? In short: yes. While it may not tickle the fancy of some underground junglists, few acts are quite as good at creating the kind of energetic, hot-stepping D&B and bass music anthems that sound just as good blasting out from car radios as they do over club soundsystems. With an impressive cast-list of guest stars - Emile Sande, Kano, Craig David, Novelist and Shy FX included - lending a hand, Tribe could easily end up being the crossover dance album of the year.

Review: Hot on the heels of their "Matriarch" prequel, Conduct stand firm and deliver the release of their lives; frothing out of an awe-inspiring, otherworldly cauldron of ideas, instrumentation and personal influences and dark energies, Oma is unlike anything you've heard before (including their still-ace Borderlands debut album) as it flexes from visceral tribal odysseys such as "The Rain It Come" and "San Bushmen" and 23rd century bloodclart jungle techno such as "RDM" to delicate, introspective excursions such as "Water & Oil" and the smoky blues of "Escapism" and beyond. Without question, one of the most vital and refreshing drum & bass albums of the year.

  14. Over The Influence
Review: Spearhead snapped up Dexcell back in 2015, after being impressed by their digital-only offerings for the likes of Breach, Proximity and Skimrok. This is the fast-rising outfit's debut album, and interestingly features both a 12" (containing six of the hottest cuts from the set) and a full-length CD. Surprisingly, it's a largely vocal affair, with an impressive cast list of guest vocalists taking it in turn to add their soulful tones to the trio's slick, immaculately produced backing tracks. While there are slightly rougher and tougher moments dotted throughout, it's usually only the beats and basslines that are reinforced; musically, Under The Blue remains slinky, soulful and seductive from start to finish.

Review: As the FabricLive mix series inches towards its centennial release, the venerated London superclub has recruited drum and bass scene stalwart Dimension to mix the 98th edition. Given that it is his first commercially released DJ mix, we weren't surprised to find out that over half the included tracks are previously unreleased or exclusive "VIP" remixes from fellow D&B producers. At 56 tracks deep it's something of a thrill-a-minute ride, taking in various strands and sub-genres, cuts from rising stars and heavy hitters, and enough rip-snorting breakbeats and rumbling sub-bass blasts to keep any D&B head happy. As you'd expect given Dimension's own productions, there's plenty of soulful vocals and expansive musicality dotted throughout, too.

Review: 2014 is a special year for Dom Angas. Not only is he turning 40, but it also marks 20 years since the release of his first single under the Dom & Roland alias. As part of the celebrations, he's handed over the parts to a string of classic productions to a veritable who's who of D&B talent. They provide a series of dark, pulverising, rolling and occasionally intense reworks, all designed to cement his reputation as one of the greatest exponents of the artform. Highlights are naturally plentiful, from the classic jungle breaks and rave-era rush of BTK and Optiv's rework of "Jungle Beast", to the exotic melodies, foreboding stabs and tech-tinged textures of Mindscape's mighty rub of "Mindfeeders".

Review: By now, we should all know what Barry Ashworth's Dub Pistols band is about. Firm festival favourites almost 20 years after their formation, they gleefully blend dub, ska, jungle, hip-hop, D&B and what would once have been called 'big beat'. It's the sound of cider-and-ganja fuelled afternoons at festivals, dancing like a maniac to Ashworth and crew's party-starting grooves. The Return of The Pistoleros, their first album since 2012, captures this perfectly, with the band's core members being joined by guests including Lindy Layton (yes, she of Beats International fame), Earl 16, and Specials founder member Neville Staple. Open a can of Natch, light up something medicinal and crack on.

Review: Given that they've now been bulldozing dancefloors with their distinctively dark, fizzing, tech-tinged take on drum & bass for nigh on 20 years, few will be surprised to hear that Ed Rush and Optical's contribution to the FabricLive series is a bombastic, full-throttle affair. Packed to the rafters with growling basslines, skittish jungle rhythms, subtle nods to rave and nightmarish textures, FabricLive 82 is little less than a lesson in D&B's murkier margins. While there are few surprises - the duo found their niche years ago and have been happily working it ever since - it's nevertheless a hugely enjoyable excursion, somehow squeezing in 39 tracks along the way.

Review: For those interested in the creative potential of drum & bass, Hospital offshoot Med School has long been of more interest than it's festival-friendly parent label. Designed to showcase experimental, off-kilter and lesser-known D&B producers, its' consistently offered up singles and albums that bristle with great ideas. Here the label offers up a full-length from Russian producer Electrosoul System, a man who has been impressing at the margins of the D&B sound for the best part of a decade. Accessible but always unusual, Flawless impressively blends elements of liquid D&B, jungle, half-step, hip-hop and more ragged rhythms to deliver something fresh, intoxicating and hugely enjoyable.

Review: Med School has said that In Stillness, Etherwood's third full-length excursion for the label, contains "some of the most awe-inspiring and poignant drum and bass" that they've released to date. We tend to agree. Recorded in his home studio somewhere in the Finnish wilderness, the album effortlessly combines heart-aching songs and expansive instrumentation (both electronic and acoustic) with the distinctive rhythmic snap of classic D&B. This naturally results in a string of sublime, mood-enhancing moments, with highlights including the cascading jazz guitar solos and dreamy vocal harmonies of "You're Missing Life", the weighty but icy roller "Bear's Breaches (featuring Anile)" and the intricate, beat-less bliss of "Metsa".

Review: Austrian combo Fourward - so-called because there are four members - has been delivering on-point drum & bass since the tail end of the noughties. Expansion is their second album in total, and first since signing to Shogun Audio back in 2014. It's a punchy and thrill-packed affair, moving from he far-sighted electro-jungle of "Beta Alpha Theta Delta", to the bubbly, D&B/hip-hop fusion of Pep hook-up From East, via the woozy "Over" and rip-snorting "Sequencer". Along the way, you'll find fine collaborations with Jake, Mefjus and Rene, as well as the twisted wobble bass assault that is "Dewey". In a word: bombastic.
