Simply plug a universal power supply (laptop style) into either of the barrel plugs on the 4HP panel. Connect your modules via flying bus cables or the Bus Stick. For custom power systems, the Row Power 45 has a set of easily soldered holes for using large gauge wire or MTA156 connectors to connect to distribution bus boards.

Multiple Row Power modules can be powered from a single power brick by daisy-chaining with an inexpensive barrel cable. The Row Power 45 can also be daisy-chained to 4ms Company's Pod enclosures. Each power supply is independently regulated and protected for ultra-low cross-talk between rows/pods.

The Row Power 45 is compatible with the 4ms Row Power Shield. This device (sold separately) attaches to the back of the Row Power 45 and monitors the amount of current being drawn, as well as the voltages of the power rails. The information is sent over Bluetooth to be displayed on a phone or tablet.

Notes: This is the VC Rotator, a stepped routing module for any type of signal (audio, cv, gate, trigger...)

Similar to a VC switcher but in this case there's the same number of inputs than outputs so, instead of 4 to 1 or 1 to 4, this module is always 4 to 4 but it can be patched for 2 to 2 and 3 to 3 step actions.

All four inputs get routed to the four outputs depending on the CV and Clock controls and are divided into 4 routing steps:
1. routes all inputs to the same number output: 1:1, 2:2, 3:3, 4:4
2. routes all inputs to an offset of 1: 2:1, 3:2, 4:3, 1:4
3. routes all inputs to an offset of 2: 3:1, 4:2, 1:3, 2:4
4. routes all inputs to an offset of 3: 4:1, 1:2, 2:3, 3:4

Direction determines if the clock input goes forward or backwards.
Going forward it can be set to 2-3 or 4 steps using the Rotate knob offset, going backwards always sync to 4 steps even if offseted by the Rotate knob.
For 2 & 3 step action input 1 is normalled to input 3 and input 2 is normalled to input 4.

Reset resets the internal clock to the first step.

Pendulum, external sequencing or any complex CV actions can be achieved using the CV input and dedicated attenuverter.

4 leds monitor which input is routed to output 1.

Notes: Really nice stuff here. The filter circuit from ADDAC's 4 Voice Cluster module gets reimagined as a multi-mode stereo or dual mono filter module. A lot of filter action in just 6hp.

Supplier's Notes:

While developing the ADDAC105 4 Voice Cluster module, a new multimode filter to place after the summing mix stage- and the results were so postitive that it was released as a dedicated filter.

To make it more interesting, the circuitry was duplicated, to be able to use it in a stereo signal path.

To make it more versatile, a switch was added to set the working mode from Stereo to Dual Mono where both filters can be used independently.

In Stereo Mode the Left Cutoff is used to control the Right Cutoff.
In this case the Right Cutoff Knob and CV Input are simply bypassed and will have no impact on the Right Channel operation.
This allows immediate sync of both filter frequencies when the Stereo position is engaged.
Optionally there's a jumper in it's back that, when placed, connects the Right Controls back to the Right CV control allowing the possibility to control the offset of the Right Channel Cutoff.

Resonance is independent on both Modes and still has to be set manually to match both channels.

Both the Audio and CV inputs are normalled from the Left into the Right channels.
As standard plugging any input to the Right channels removes this connection.

VC spectral tilt module
Notes: The TILT EQ concept was first introduced in the 1970's by Quad Ltd, featured on the company's model 34 preamplifier.

The tilt control tilts the frequency spectrum of the audio signal by simultaneously boosting the treble and cutting the bass frequencies, or vice versa, making it a simple to use but powerful EQ.

As stated by Quad Ltd, it was designed to produce a very gradual change in balance across the musical spectrum without changing the overall subjective level.

This gradual fall from Bass to Treble, or vice versa, means there's no sudden change and hence no 'coloration' added to the sound, the sound will remain entirelly natural but with a slight added bottom or high end. In practice, it rotates most of the audio-range frequency response around a 1Khz axis, so as to change the overall balance of the sound from warm to cool without affecting either the apparent volume or the "color" of the sound.

Here this idea is introducedinto the modular world in a stereo configuration.

CV input with attenuverter was added for the Tilt control as well as a Spectral Motion switch that allows stereo spectral matching or inverted spectrum use of the Tilt control: Left=Right matches both channels direction, i.e. when left channel is tilted to the low end the right channel will also be tilted to the low end

Left Right inverts the Right channel spectrum, i.e. when left channel is tilted to the low end the right channel will be inverselly tilted to the high end, or vice-versa.

This possibility is extremmelly interesting when applied as a stereo effect, in other words a spectral EQ panner. This module will also be available as a full DIY kit.

MiniMod Glide + Noise, combining two Minimoog circuits in one module - 6HP
Notes: The original MiniMod Glide +Noise module was based exactly on the original Minimoog Model D circuitry, which was designed to be used with the built in Model D keyboard, and because of its vintage design its range was severely limited to 5 or 6 octaves, and it also responded to positive voltages only. Another limitation was that it would not return fully to zero when selecting long glide times, which restricted the range even more.

So we made the decision to re-design the MiniMod Glide + Noise using modern precision parts, and we have come up with an all new circuit which has exactly the same function, but with a hugely extended range. It has the same Glide slope characteristic (a slightly curved Linear Glide) as the Model D on which the MiniMod is based, however in response to many requests from customers we have adjusted the glide up and down speeds so that they are now very similar , which is much more useful in real world applications that the earlier MK1 version which (like the Model D) would glide up considerably faster than it would glide down.

The new Mk2 MiniMod Glide Noise module now has an impressive 14 octave range, and can respond to negative voltages down to -5V. This is a very useful feature, as our MiniMod VCO's will respond to negative control voltages and produce correspondingly low frequencies; so it is now possible to glide down quickly or slowly to crazy sub bass levels! The hold feature has been improved too, it covers the full audio range as well as DC control voltages, and works as a track and hold module with Eurorack signal levels.

A further enhancement is that the Mk2 module can now (using selectable jumpers) transmit or receive pitch CV to the Eurorack power bus; for example, the Glide CV Output can now be directed to the Bus in order to send CV's to (for example) three VCO's via the bus without the need for a passive multi and four patch cords!

The Noise section of the module is unchanged, except that we have slightly boosted the level of the Red Noise output to bring it more in line with Eurorack control voltage levels.

Lastly, it is much shallower - Mk1 Glide Noise had a depth of 54mm, and it was the only MiniMod module that was too deep to fit a skiff style case - and this prevented a full MiniMod system being installed into a shallow Eurorack case. The new MK2 version is only 28mm deep, so this allows both it and a full MiniMod system to be mounted into shallow skiff style Eurorack cases.

Eurorack recreation of classic sampler filter with added resonance & voltage control
Notes: 'MUM M8' is an 8hp Eurorack low pass filter building on the filter design used in the classic Akai S950 12 bit sampler with the addition of resonance, voltage control, clipped saturation and a dedicated VCA.

The low pass filter gives the recognisable super smooth vacuum like tone sucking sound which works magic on complex sources. The addition of clipped overdrive and intentionally aggressive self-oscillating resonance compliment the smooth filter core by juxtaposing it into more wasp like territory with acidic squeals and a more gritty sound.
Mum M8 features dual voltage control with attenuation (and inversion) of filter cut off and voltage control of resonance together with dual audio inputs - one of which includes a VCA to with the capability to aid overdriving signals into the filter core.

The filter core is a 6th Order Butterworth switched capacitor type design featuring an analog core but controlled by a high speed digital clock. This produces the characteristic smooth sounding filter but, as with the original S950, has a relatively high minimum cut off as to avoid 'clock bleed' into the filter output from the digital control. This minimum cut of point (and introduction of bleed if required) can be controlled via trimmers on the rear of the module (see calibration chapter). It is not unusual for there still to be some low-level artefacts from the clock present, particularly during filter sweeps - these add to the filters character.

The motivation for the module came from discussing filters in classic samplers with the artist Jack Adams - aka Mumdance. Jack suggested investigating the S950's filter well known as for it use in classic use in early jungle and hardcore. From that point onward Jack provided inspiration, help and feedback in the development of the filter. Big up Mumdance.

Notes: The Coma Reactor module from Animal Factory Amplification is an innovative delay with a variety of sonic possibilities.

It is based on a PT2399 delay chip and offers amazing routing and sound design options.

The Coma knob is an attenuator for the input signal. Low levels can generate funny noises. The input signal is mirrored at the Thru output, for further processing with another module.

There are separate dry and wet potentiometers to adjust the desired effect amount.

The delay time ranges from 30 to 2000 ms. It can be controlled manually via the Time knob or with control voltage thanks to the MOD input, which is equipped with an attenuverter and a switch for setting the amount of modulation. Furthermore there is a LED which indicates the CV polarity.

The delay features a feedback knob for controlling the repeats. Turned fully clockwise it will bring up self-oscillation.

Thanks to an integrated send/return path it is possible to use the module with external effects. The volume of the external effect is controlled by the Return potentiometer. If nothing is connected to send/return, the delay signal is routed internally through a crude twin-T Bandpass Filter. The effected signal can be fed back into the delay circuit thanks to a dedicated Return Feedback knob.

All standard VCF controls are available: manual filter frequency control Frq, one control voltage input with attenuator (FCV2)and one without attenuator (FCV1, ~ 1 V/octave). In addition voltage controlled resonance with manual control (Q) and a CV input with attenuator (QCV) are available. The circuit is based on a 24dB lowpass filter. The outputs of the four internal filter stages (i.e. the 6, 12, 18 and 24dB outputs) are mixed together with different levels and polarities to obtain 15 different filters. Because of this special circuit the outputs have slightly different levels and noise floor. This is caused by the different internal amplifications and numbers of stages that are required to generate the filter in question. If e.g. a filter is derived by one stage only (e.g. the 6 dB, 12dB, 18dB and 24dB low pass) the noise floor is smaller compared to a filter that is derived by a combination of all four filter stages. The module generates a distorted audio signal if the level control is set to about 50% (i.e. center position) or more with A-100 standard signals like VCOs.

Classic Moog voltage-controlled lowpass filter - 12HP
Notes: Module A-108 is a completely new voltage-controlled low pass filter based on the well-known transistor ladder (Moog ladder). The module has internally an 8-stage low pass filter with different slopes available: 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42 and 48 dB per octave. In addition, it features a band pass output (i.e. band pass with transistor ladder). In the factory, the 4 low pass outputs of the A-108 are internally connected to the filter stages 6, 12, 24 and 48dB.

Resonance (Emphasis or Q) can be adjusted manually right up to self-oscillation, in which case the filter will behave like a sine wave oscillator. The A-108 features an external feedback input that enables the insertion of additional modules into the feedback path (e.g. VCA for voltage-controlled resonance or phaser/frequency shifter for phase/frequency shifting effects). The socket is normalized and internally connected to the 48dB low pass output if no cable is inserted into the feedback socket.

The frequency can be adjusted manually, or by voltage control. Three CV inputs (CV1, CV2, CV3) are available. CV2 and CV3 are equipped with attenuators.

The filter audio input is very sensitive so that distortion - if desired - is possible even with normal A-100 levels (e.g. VCO output). Self-oscillation will break off at high distortion levels as the internal feedback signal is drown out by the distorted audio signal. This feature may intentionally be used to create new sounds.

In combination with the Voltage Controlled Mixer A-135 and the Morphing Controller A-144 a filter with voltage-controlled slope can be realized (i.e. controlling the slope from 6dB to 48dB via CV).

Notes: Module A-127 is a triple resonance filter unit. It contains three separate voltage-controlled band pass filters. Each filter has its own LFO (triangle waveform) with LED display and adjustable frequency and amplitude. Instead of the internal LFO an external control voltage may be used to control the filter frequency. In this case the external voltage is fed into the external CV jack (with integrated switch to turn off the LFO signal) and the amplitude control of the LFO affects the level of the external CV signal. Each filter is equipped with the following controls: LFO frequency, LFO/external CV amplitude, filter frequency, filter resonance and filter amplitude. In addition to the mix output for all three filters each filter has a separate audio output. The original audio signal can be added to the triple filter mix signal with a separate control. All 3 filters share a common audio input with attenuator. The filter audio inputs are very sensitive so that distortion may intentionally be used to create new sounds - if desired.

The frequency control range of the bandpass filters is about 40Hz...6kHz, the frequency range of the LFO's is about 0.02Hz...20Hz (= 1 min ... 1/20 sec per cycle).

Each of the three filters can used also as a 12dB low pass (with resonance control) instead of band pass. For this a jumper has to be changed on the filter board in question. In this case the module can be called no longer "resonance filter" but "triple low pass filter". It is also possible to modify only one or two of the filters to low pass.

Notes: A-132-8 is an octal VCA and primarily planned for polyphonic applications. The module contains four VCA pairs. Each pair includes two daisy-chained VCAs. One VCA has a linear control scale, for the second VCA linear or exponential control scale can be chosen by means of jumpers. We decided to provide two VCAs for each voice because usually one VCA is required for loudness envelope and a second one for velocity (or other functions like individual voltage-controlled loudness of each voice, amplitude modulation and so on).

As long as no patch cable is inserted into the socket in question the internal default control voltage (GL or GX) is used to control the corresponding VCA. This is necessary when the VCA in question is not in use (i.e. no external CV available). Otherwise the VCA would close and there would be no output signal even if the other VCA in the chain is open. The controls GL and GX are also useful for testing polyphonic patches (e.g. for tuning the VCOs).

In the factory the CV inputs are adjusted for a CV range 0...+10V - matching to the polyphonic ADSR module A-141-4. But the sensitivity of each CV input can be adjusted by means of a trimming potentiometer to adapt the CVs even to other control voltage ranges.

Quad AD-generator with four independent Attack-Decay envelopes - 28HP
Notes: Module A-143-1 is a complex envelope generator that consists of Attack/Decay generators. For the complex envelope generator the four units are daisy-chained, i.e. the preceding unit triggers the following unit. The four units can be used even as four separate AD generators (switch position AD) or AD-type LFOs (switch position).

Details: Module A-143-1 contains four separate attack/decay type envelope generators. Each unit can be switched into a free running mode (LFO mode). The LFO mode differs in several points from a regular LFO (like A-145, A-146 or A-147): The slopes are exponential - in contrast to linear slopes of a normal LFO, and the frequency is defined by both controls. The attack control defines the time of the rising slope, the decay control the falling slope.

Each unit has available a comparator that compares the AD output voltage with a manually adjustable threshold and switches the corresponding comparator output (Cp 1...4) to "high" as soon as the AD output voltage goes in the decay phase below this value. The comparator output is normalled to the trigger input of the next stage via the switching contact of the trigger input socket. Consequently the first unit triggers the second, the second triggers the third and so on.

Each AD generator is equipped with a Polarizer (look at the Voltage Controlled Polarizer A-133 concerning details about the polarizer function) and a mixer that adds up all polarizer outputs. This allows to add up all AD/LFO output signals inverting or non-inverting with adjustable level to the mix output. Additionally a single output (Env 1...4) is available for each unit.

If the trigger input of unit 1 is controlled by a normal gate signal (e.g. from a keyboard resp. MIDI-to-CV/Gate interface) one obtains a very complex envelope signal at the mix output. The signal contains 8 segments controlled by Attack 1, Decay 1, Attack 2, Decay 2, Attack 3, Decay 3, Attack 4 and Decay 4. The transition between the stages (i.e. when the following AD generator is triggered) is controlled by threshold knob. The positive or negative contribution of each unit to the mix signal is adjusted with the Mixing Polarizer control. If the trigger input of unit 1 is controlled by the comparator output of unit 4 one obtains a 8 stage LFO.

The single AD outputs can be used to control VCAs or VCFs that open one after another corresponding to the AD signals (a little bit similar to the Shepard generator A-191).

The default-connection between the four units (CPn = Trig.n+1) can be interrupted by patching cables into the trigger inputs. Consequently the four units can be used as separate AD generators or LFOs. In any case the mix signal is available (e.g. mix of four AD generators or LFOs with adjustable level and sign).

In the LFO mode the comparator output serves as LFO rectangle output with adjustable pulse width (= threshold control).

Each unit is equipped with a separate LED display for envelop and comparator output. The shortest attack/decay time is about 5 ms, the longest attack/decay times are about 3 seconds (attack) / 10 seconds (decay). By changing the value of a capacitor the shortest time can be modified (details can be found here: A100_Capacitors.htm).

The sketch at the bottom of the page shows the module principle with 4 daisy-chained AD units (as predetermined by the normalled sockets), that are mixed with the integrated polarizing mixer.

Controller unit for the A-155 sequencer
Notes: Module A-154 is a supplement to the A-155 Analog/Trigger Sequencer module. It offers a lot of new features that are not available in the basic control unit of the A-155. The A-154 is used to replace the control unit of one or two A-155, i.e. the section marked "Control" with Start / Stop / Step / Reset buttons and inputs in the upper left corner of the A-155 front panel. If the A-154 is used to control the A-155 the control section of the A-155 is put out of action.

These are the features of the A-154:

Several running modes: forward, backward, pendulum, random, CV controlled step adressing. All modes are available as loop or one-shot.

Manual and voltage controlled selection (with attenuator) of the running mode. If no external control voltage is applied one of the 10 modes (5 modes x 2 loop/one-shot) is simply selected with a rotary knob. The CV input with attenuator is used to modulate the running mode with an external control voltage (digital high/low CV to switch between two modes or continuous analog CV to sweep through different modes). With the combination of manual control and CV with attenuator it is possible e.g. to use only two neighbouring modes (e.g. forward/backward) or sweep through all possible running modes

Manual and voltage controlled selection (with attenuator) of first and last step of the sequence. The range is step 1...8 in 8 step mode resp. 1...16 in 16 step mode

If the running mode "CV Controlled Step Address" is selected the First Step section is used to determine the active sequencer step. Consequently manual and voltage controlled selection (with attenuator) of the active step is possible: the active step can be set by hand with the first step manual control and then modulated by an external control voltage (e.g. LFO, Random, S&H, Theremin, Light CV source, Joy Stick) at the first step CV input (with attenuator).

An internal voltage controlled clock generator with manual and CV control (with attenuator) is available. The output of the clock generator is displayed with a LED and is used as sequencer clock provided that no external clock signal is connected to the Clock In socket (normalled socket). If the CV input of the Clock section is connected to one of the analog outputs of the sequencer the time for each step can be set separately. Even jumps (or skipping) will be possible as we will introduce the feature that a very short clock pulse will be generated if the control voltage exceeds a certain value. For example the gate row of the A-155 can be used to obtain skipping of steps: the gate output simply has to be conneted to the CV input of the A-154 clock generator. If the corresponding switch of the A-155 is set correspondingly in the gate row the step will be skipped.

Manual and voltage controlled (with attenuator) pulse width (PW) of the clock signal. This features can be used to obtain a different gate length for each step: e.g. one of the CV outputs of the A-155 can be used to control the PW. With a PW control voltage coming from a LFO/random/S&H the gate length will change automatically. CV coming from Theremin A-178, ribbon controller A-198, light controlled CV A-179, joy stick A-174 are other ways to control the gate length.

8/16 step mode: A toggle switch us used to select 8 or 16 steps. The "16 step" mode requires two A-155 and one or more voltage controlled switches (e.g. A-150-1 or A-150-8). The voltage controlled switches are controlled by the "A3" output of the A-154. This output remains "low" as long as the active step is in the range 1...8 and turns to "high" in the range 9...16. The voltage controlled switches are used to switch between the CV/trigger/gates outputs of the first A-155 (step 1...8) and the second A-155 (step 9...16). In the A-154 user's manual the corresponding patch is shown.

If two A-155 are used they can work in parallel (8 steps) or serial (16 steps). The 8/16 steps switch determines if the 8 step mode (one A-155 or two A-155 in parallel) or the 16 step mode (two A-155 serial) is chosen. Both modes work with CV controlled step addressing too (see below). In 8 step mode only the steps 1...8 are addressed, in 16 step mode the steps 1...16. For serial operation an additional VC switch (A-150) is required - as mentioned above.

The functions of the Start/Stop/Step/Reset buttons and inputs are the same as for the "old" control unit of the A-155:

A high level at the Start input or operating the Start button starts the sequence from the momentarily addressed step. Not working in "CV controlled step address" mode.

A high level at the Stop input or operating the Stop button stops the sequence (the last active step remains addressed). Not working in "CV controlled step address" mode.

Notes: A-173-1/2 is a module combo that is used to generate a manually controlled 1V/Octave CV signal and up to 15 manually controlled gate/trigger signals. Typical applications are the transposition of a sequence by means of the CV output (without the need of an external keyboard and CV interface) and the manual generation of gate signals for start, stop, envelope generator triggering and other trigger tasks.

A-173-1 is the transmitter module and is made of a 1 1/2 octaves micro keyboard and a three-position octave switch.

A-173-2 is the receiver module and generates several gate/trigger signals and a 1V/Oct. CV signal. The upper section of the module is used for the gates which are controlled by the corresponding buttons of the A-173-1. Each output can be programmed as gate (pressing/releasing the corresponding key turns the gate on/off) or toggle (pressing the corresponding key changes the state). The state of each output is displayed by an LED. The lower section of the module is used the generate a 1V/Oct. CV signal and gate signal in the usual way.

By means of the learn feature of the A-173-2 (i.e. defining the key for 0V CV) a few buttons can be separated from the CV generation section so that these buttons only control gate/trigger outputs without affecting the CV. That way e.g. start/stop or other triggers become independent from the CV section. For example, it's possible to separate the lower five buttons (G to B) from the CV generation and use these buttons only for the generation of gate signals. For this the lower C has to be defined as lowest key for the CV generation.

The modules communicate via standard midi note on/off messages and are connected internally by means of a 2-wire cable. That way the modules can be mounted at different positions within the case.
