Notes: In 2009 John Berndt coined and defined the term Relabi in his essay "Relabi": Patterns of Self-Erasing Pulse, these are his own words: "Relabi, Def.: The experience of a palpably coordinated plurality of events that appears to be cyclical but simultaneously suspends identification of a uniform pattern, preventing a resolved sense of pulse. Relabi therefore seems equally pulsed and unpulsed at the same time. It is an experiential gestalt, a quality of experience, greater than the sum of its parts (it forms a sustained unity in experience, albeit of a new kind)."

He also makes the question: "Why would anyone want this Relabi experience? I maintain that much of what is exciting in musical forms involves an interplay between the setting up and denying of pulse expectations."

Inspired by this idea, ADDAC System developed this module that is both a gate/trigger and cv generator that can be freely used to trigger events or act as a complex modulation source. Four Sine LFOs are internally generated, each has controls for gain, frequency and mute(off). These 4 LFOs are then mixed together to generate what Berndt named the "Relabi Wave" this "wave" becomes a complex bipolar CV source. This i5v bipolar "wave" can be monitored on the 2 dedicated leds and is also available at its own Output.

Analogue Systems RS-110N Multimode Filter Module

Notes: The RS-110 is a resonant analog multimode filter with excellent sound, resonance and four simultaneously available filter types. An insert function in the feedback loop allows you to insert other audio processors.

The module has two audio inputs, each with a level control. "unity gain" is reached at position 4, beyond this the signal will be overdriven at the filter input.

The cutoff frequency can be set manually in a range of 30Hz to over 15kHz, with additional CVs even up to 50kHz.

Separate audio outputs for the four filter types are available: 24dB low pass, 24dB high pass, 12dB band pass and 12dB notch.

Resonance goes up to self-oscillation and besides that it offers an unique feature: the socket Res-Out and Res-In act like an insert i.e. they allow you to process the audio signal in the feedback loop by other audio processors like filters, distortions, delays, frequency shifters etc.

You get very wicked results when you connect the notch output with the resonance input. It sounds very metallic and the filter behaviour gets more aggressive. Generally it is fun to cross-connect the separate outputs with the CV and audio inputs and to use the filter in a modular way.

In use:

The RS-110N consists of a two channel audio mixer followed by four, parallel, resonant filters with voltage controlled frequency and a unique "insert" point in the feedback path that generates and controls resonance.

Filter Modes

The RS-110N offers four filter modes. These are 24dB/Oct low-pass , 24dB/Oct high-pass, 12dB/Oct band-pass and 12dB/Oct band reject (often called 'notch') filtering, with the cutoff frequencies (Fc) of the high-pass and low-pass outputs being the centre frequencies of the band-pass and notch outputs. Each of these filter characteristics is described in appendix 2.

There is no switch to select between the modes because all four are available simultaneously from the appropriate output sockets. However, the cut-off and resonance can not be defined individually for each, and the controls act upon each mode equally

You can determine Fc in the range 3Hz to 50kHz using combinations of the frequency control knob and the voltage control inputs.

If you apply a CV conforming to the 1V/Oct standard, Fc will track the CV in exactly the same way as an RS-90 VCO would if you applied the same CV to its CV-IN 1V/Oct socket. If the CV is supplied from a keyboard then, in common parlance, the filter is tracking the keyboard 100% and, with the resonance at maximum, you can 'play' the filter as if it were a conventional oscillator.

You can also use this facility to make a notch or band-pass filter "track" the notes you are playing, and this can be used to create many special effects.

You may wish Fc to track incoming CVs differently, so the C V-IN VARY input is provided. This socket and its associated LEVEL control allow you to specify the filter's sensitivity to C Vs within the range 8V/oct to approximately 0.4V/Oct. The former of these makes the filter invariant to incoming CVs, while the latter makes it oversensitive compared to CV-IN.


The filters have a common resonance, 'Q', that you can control using the RESONANCE knob. In its fully anticlockwise position, Q is approximately zero, and there is no emphasis of the signal at Fc. As you rotate the knob clockwise Q will increase, whereupon every mode of the RS-110N will accentuate the harmonics that lie close to the cut-off frequency, Fc. Increasing Q further, the filters will exhibit ringing, and will severely colour any signals passed through them. Finally, if you continue to increase the resonance beyond a certain point, the filter will itself begin to oscillate, even in the absence of an input. Each mode will now produce a stable tone at the cutoff frequency determined by the various controls. This oscillation takes the form of (approximately) a sine wave, and it is produced by all four of the conventional audio outputs. The exact nature of the wave varies slightly from mode to mode, and you can use these subtle differences to create tonal variation when using the RS-110N as an oscillator.

Uses for RES OUT and RES IN include the introduction of voltage controlled resonance (achieved by routing the signal via an RS-180 VCA) or the creation of special effects (achieved by modifying the signal using devices such as reverb units).

This Tiny (yet powerful) Module allows you to manipulate your gate length and delay your event triggers with ease and minimal impact on your HP.

Take an incoming Signal above ~1.1V (OpAmp Comparators on the Inputs make very forgiving Clock Inputs) and shrink it down to 5MS or lengthen it up to 5 Seconds.

That Gate will appear at the Gate Out.

When the Gate is Over a 10MS Trigger will turn on at the Delay Out.

Set the length of the Gate with the Time Potentiometer OR with the CV Input.

The switches allow you to choose between Interrupt OR Dividing Behavior (1 for each channel).

If you have Interrupt selected, when Clock In receives a new Clock Pulse the time will reset, essentially lengthening your Gate Out and Delay Out to the Time you have set + the time that has already elapsed.

So Gate will never go Low and Delay will never go High if you have a Time set longer than the interval between Clock Pulses (Useful if you have staggered, irregular or random Clocks).

When Dividing is selected Clock In will Ignore new Clock Pulses until it has finished the current cycle it's running.

The Delay 1 Out is Normalled via the Jack switch of the Clock 2 Input for all kinds of Timing madness!

Notes: The Animodule M1xXOR is the Jon Snow of Animodule's product lineup. Described as a "bastard progeny" and "unholy union" by its creators, the module is an amalgamation of the V9a, VCSS, XXX_OR, and MixMan modules. Each of the module's channels, as well as the mixer, can be used independently of the sequencer, enabling a variety of self-contained and inter-module uses. When used independently for self-contained functionality, the module can function as a 4-channel DC-coupled mixer or as 4 individual channels of gated attenuation.

How It Works:
-Signal goes in to Channel Input (it's DC connected so you can use Audio OR CV).
-Signal is attenuated via Channel Attenuator.
-Signal is allowed to pass through to Individual Channel Output AND Mixer Output IF Gate Input is High OR Switch is depressed.

-Clock Pulse High in to Clock Input Moves Sequence forward 1 Step.
-The Channel that the step is On will be open
-CV can be used to control the Sequencer via the CV Input.
-There is a resolution of 5 steps (4 channels and a 0 step allowing for all channels to be cleared from the Sequencer).
-There is an attenuator and offset to help properly scale and position your CV Input.
-CV Input is expecting 0V to +5V, but with the Attenuator and Offset will easily work with -/+5V.
-Clock and CV maybe used in tandem resulting in some mind melting rhythms!
-In that case the Clock will step forward 1 step from it's current position (unless it's on step 4 in which case it will roll over to step 1)
-The Clock used in conjunction with the CV will bitshift the sequence to the left, incrementing the static position of the step counter by 1 (wrapping around to step 1 after step 4).
-Fer' Instance, 2 Clock counts and CV is on 0. Step will be on Channel 2
-Gate High in to Reset will reset Clock counter to step 1 OR if Clock Input is being used in conjunction with the CV Input the reset will clear the Clock Counter and return the step to where the CV indicates it should be without any BitShifting

*Gate Input / Switches in conjunction with Sequencer:
-The Sequencer and the Gate Input / Switches combine in a XOR gate. If one is High and the other is not, that channel will be open. If BOTH are High, that channel will be closed.

Despite the lengthy description, the M1xXOR is very intuitive (and unbelievably Fun!) to use.
Each Channel (and the Mixer) May be used independently of the Sequencer.
So if you're not in the mood for Rhythmic Insanity You still have a gateable 4 Channel DC-Coupled Mixer AND/OR 4 independent and gateable channels of Attenuation.
You will NEVER just have it filling space in your cabinet.
You will find a use for it in EVERY patch!

Send your CV to the CV In. As the Voltage increases the sequence steps forward. As the voltage decreases the sequence steps back.
Scale and adjust your input voltage to taste with the Onboard Attenuator and Offset.

Control the Output CV with an individual Potentiometer for each step.

When a step changes, a 10MS trigger is sent to it's corresponding switch. If the latching switch is depressed it allows the trigger to pass to the Trigger Out.

There is a switch per step for slew (portamento/slide).
and a Potentiometer to control the Slew Amount.
There is also an input to allow gated control of when the slew turns on and off which will work in conjunction with the switches.

This module is looking for 0V to +5V. The Offset is 0V to +5V.

To allow for chaining of the V9a and rests, 0V will put you under the sequencer range and +5V will put you over the sequencer range.
When the sequence drops below step 1 or over step 9, 0V will be sent to the CV Out and No Trigger will be sent to the Trig Out.
When step 1 or 9 is activated a trigger will be sent to the Trig buss.

The 110 comes with a complete synth voice with an internally patched signal flow for ease of use and to save patching time so you can focus on your music. You can vary the VCO section by selecting one of three waveforms; triangle, ramp and Pulse Width Modulation which can be adjusted by the Mod Manual knob. The VCO also offers pitch and range control knobs as well as one audio output, which can be routed to another source, and two CV inputs.

The VCF features cutoff frequency and resonance sliders while the VCA comes with two audio outputs (low/high). Both the VCF and VCA each feature two audio inputs and two CV inputs that allow for other sources to be plugged into the 110, making it a must-have in any modular synth.

Notes: The ADSR Envelope Generator's primary role in the modular synthesiser is to take a Gate input and generate dynamic control voltages which change over time. The Gate is usually provided by a sequencer or keyboard, when a key is pressed the gate goes high, which the key is released the gate goes low. The code within the module translates this gate signal to the various stages of the control envelope: Attack, Decay, Sustain and Release. This control voltage out can then be patched into a VCA to control volume, VCF to control frequency cutoff or VCO to control other modulation parameters such as FM or PWM.

Linear vs Exponential

The human ear hears both volume and pitch exponentially, so having exponential control over these elements is crucial. It's usual to drive a VCA with an ADSR, however only one of these should be exponential.

Notes: The Equinox LFO provides control over the Rate, Depth and Offset, and has two waveforms: sine and square. These can be patched into all modules which have a control voltage input, giving access to a huge range of synthesis techniques such as FM and PWM. The depth control sets the amplitude of the signal, from 5VP right down to a DC level. The offset control moves the signal either up towards +5V or down towards -5V. The module is smart enough to know when the depth is maximum, there's no room for the offset to move, but when the depth is at it's minimum, i.e. DC, the offset can move that level anywhere between +5V and -5V. A sync input is also provided, resetting the waveform so it can be synced with sequencers or other modulation sources within the modular synthesiser.

Notes: The VCF is possibly one of the most important modules within a modular synthesiser. The Equinox VCF was designed with two classic instruments in mind: the SH-101 and the TB-303, both possessing key sonic elements in electronic music culture. Combined with the VCO, the Equinox VCF provides an incredibly rich palette of squelches and squeals, from throbbing basslines through to mix cutting leads. With two VCOs connected to the two mixed inputs, this module can produce the fattest of sounds.

The main role of the Low Pass Filter in subtractive synthesis is to remove higher harmonics from a waveform, altering the sound into new timbres. Filtering all harmonics from a waveform will result in just a sine wave oscillating at the fundamental frequency, great for hard punching kick drums. An alternative method for producing sine waves is to crank the Resonance control to maximum, causing the filter to go into self oscillation. The pitch of this very pure sine wave can now be controlled either via the Cutoff knob or the CV In.

The module is designed to be the primary sound source for the modular synthesiser. It provides the three main waveforms used in subtractive synthesis: Sawtooth, Triangle and Pulse / Square wave. The three waveforms each have unique characteristics and harmonic makeup, providing the raw materials for synthesising a huge range of acoustic and electronic instruments. Sawtooth waves are commonly used to create brass and string like sounds, whilst a square wave sounds more like woodwind. Being able to control the amplitude of signals throughout a patch is therefore essential, and one can never have too many voltage controlled amplifiers (VCAs).

Designed as a fully-featured modulation hub for Eurorack synthesisers, Morph 4 takes the basic concept of the multi-VCA module to the next level.

Four linear amplitude modulators are controlled by a master 'morph' parameter. The response of each modulator to this parameter is completely variable, both manually and under voltage control, and can be overridden if desired. Each response is triangular, with the 'position' parameter setting the maximum point along the morph axis, while 'span' determines the width of the triangle's base.

In addition to separate signal inputs and outputs, a variety of combined outputs is available as well: A+B, C+D, add (unity gain) and averaging mixes, and instantaneous minimum and maximum. Input normalisation makes it easy to send the same signal to multiple modulators, while output and modulator response LEDs provide essential visual feedback.

The combination of master control, fully flexible modulators and multiple combined outputs creates a module truly embodying the spirit of 'patch programmable' modular synthesis. The driving idea behind the Twin waves voltage-controlled dual oscillator/LFO is to offer two interesting oscillators in a skiff-friendly and compact size. To achieve that challenge, Klavis built the product's architecture on the concept of pre-defined algorithms, where the most useful configurations and their matching parameter are ready to use.

This MKII evolution brings a redesigned layout, additional knobs for more hands-on fun and semi-modular cross-patching between sections.

All of the original features are present: a top selection of synthesis techniques, each with their key parameter directly at hand, enriched by a full set of complementary features.

More than ever, the Twin Waves is versatility at its best.

Malekko Quad LFO Module (black faceplate)

Notes: An LFO, or low frequency oscillator, sends control voltage out in the shape of a waveform. The Quad LFO available shapes include sine, ramp, saw, triangle and pulse and moves through these shapes using the SHAPE slider. You can send these 4 distinct LFOs directly out or to other modules for frequency modulation, VCA control, filter control, etc.

What makes this Quad LFO module different is that it also includes a 16 step automation sequencer for each channel, as well as autosave or expanded preset functions when used in conjunction with Varigate 4+ and Varigate 8+.

Multiple Quad LFOs can be controlled by one Varigate 8+ or Varigate 4+ on the same bus to instantly save/recall presets.

To create a sequence of automation for an LFO, select a channel and then hold the RECORD button and move the sliders for Frequency, Phase, Shape, Distort and Level and those slider movements will play back automatically as the Quad LFO cycles through the sequence. This sequencing feature allows for a multitude of dynamic possibilities for live performance and recording.

Set each LFO to trigger via one of the 4 individual gate inputs, or set channels 2 through 4 to follow channel 1 for quadrature and phase modulation. Change the direction of each channel of sequenced automation to Forward, Reverse, Pendulum or Random. Switch the playback speed and style between Fast, Slow or Tempo Sync. There are also inputs for both Clock and Reset.

Malekko Varigate 4+ Module (black faceplate)

Notes: The Varigate 4+ is a 4-channel, 8-step sequencer that includes most features of the original Varigate 4, PLUS the new option to output both CV (quantized or unquantized) and gates simultaneously. Other new features include a Play/Stop function, Preset Banks (4×4), Glide Per Step, Scales and can also be configured as master for the Malekko Voltage Block as well as a slave to the Varigate 8+ if you're looking to expand your total channels and presets (up to 14 channels and 100 presets with V8+).

Each Channel (or Track) correlates with it's own sequencer (so 4 independent sequencers). The addition of the Gate/CV Switch allows for switching between 4 channels of CV, 2/2 for 2 channels of CV and 2 channels of gates, or all 4 channels to output only gates. Additionally, each step of a sequencer can be programmed with Probability for gates, Repeats, Glide and Notes (when in a CV mode). There is a also a Randomization feature for Repeats, Notes and Glide. Channel parameters for Scales, Sequence Direction (Forward, Reverse, Pendulum and Random), Sequence Length, Division, Multiplication and Pulsewidth are all easily accessible using Track Mode.

Easy Preset Recall makes the Varigate 4+ perfect for live performance. Pair it with the Malekko Voltage Block for maximum control.

Notes: The MRG 3320 LPF is a low pass voltage controlled filter based on the AS3320 (clone of the CEM3320).

This is a compact, but powerful and high quality 24dB 4 poles resonant low pass filter.

It is a clean, low noise filter, but can reach some screamy qualities when resonance is turned to the maximum.

All parameters are both voltage and knob controlled.

Michigan Synth Works BLN Audio Level Converter Module (black faceplate)

Audio level converter module
Notes: BLN is a 4 channel audio level converter designed to interface line or "pro" audio levels to modular audio levels. It features 2 independent converters with 2 channels each.

Converter 1: Line level/Balanced to Modular Level

The inputs for the top converter are for converting -10dB or +4dB signal levels (balanced or unbalanced) to +/-5V modular levels. Each channel can be set individually for +4 or -10 using channel 1 and 2 of the DIP switched

Converter 2: Modular level to Balanced Lined

The inputs for the bottom to converters accept a +/-5V modular audio level and converts them to a BALANCED +4 dB or -10 dB audio level. Each channel can be set individually for +4 or -10 using channel 3 and 4 of the DIP switched.

For balanced signals, simply use a 3.5mm TRS to 1/4" TRS Cable or 3.5mm TRS to 3.5mm TRS cable with a 1/4" TRS adapter. Unbalanced signals should use a 3.5mm TS cable

Basic Usage instructions:


Voltage Select switches: Independent for each channel. Does NOT affect MIDI/I2C data

Slider LED color: To change the LED color, simply remove the cap and rotate the square LED 180s. Do NOT force the LED back in, it should slide in easily, may require wiggling.


Power Header: Standard 10pin power cable, there is NO polarity for this connection. It can be connected either way

MIDI Out Header: This is a 4 pin header but only 3 or 2 connections need to be used. To connect to a DIN cable, either GND, 5 (to pin 5, current sink/aka -), and 4 (to pin 4, current source/aka +) should be used. For internal module to module connections, only pin 4 and 5 should be used. The ground pin is only for the shield in a midi cable, it is never connected on a midi input and isnt necessary for the short module to module lengths

I2C Header: 3 pin header to connect to other I2C devices in your rack, this is an unbuffered connection so cable lengths should be as short as possible (20cm/6" recommended). There are 4.7k pull up resistors on this connection

Module Orientation jumpers: There are 3 of these jumpers which determine how the module operates depending on if the jacks are on top or bottom. They will come installed in the position matching your panel but can be changed should you want to flip it. "INV" is Jacks on Top, the white position is jacks on bottom. Changing these jumpers will change the numbering of the faders from left to right (1->8) in both MIDI and I2C and will invert the voltage response (i.e. 10->0V from top to bottom). The jumper is shown in the "jacks on top" position in the pic below. ALL THREE JUMPERS MUST BE IN THE SAME POSITION for the module to operate correctly.

Module Config DIP switch: This allows you to switch between I2C Follower and I2C Leader modes easily. Simply move the switch to the "lead" position and restart the module (you can press the blue reset button once). The other 3 positions are for future expansion and not currently implemented.

Connector for Expander: This connects the F8R to the I/O expander. The cable is attached to the expander. Note the keyway at the top of the part, the connecter will ONLY connect one way
