Notes: Another update for WMD's clever dual VCA, this time a little bigger to give more control. Digital control of CV and attenuation gives lots of creative options. Third time's a charm.

Supplier's Notes:
WMD have done several designs of this circuit over the years, the first one had no knobs, the second was too small, the MKIII is finally how this circuit should be packaged. This module does some really cool stuff and is super useful in any system.

The Digital VCA lets signal through like a normal VCA, but the CV and attenuation level is controlled digitally. This lets us do things like wait until there is a zero crossing to change the amplitude, resulting in clickless amplitude changes.

The Trigger mode causes the VCA to only update when a trigger is received. The addition of a noise circuit for each side let us do a very quick and easy sample and hold that never droops. With no input, 5V is normaled to the attenuator, so you get a 0-5V sample and hold. In Bipolar mode, you can get -5 to +5V.

Both sides have bipolar VCA mode (polarizer), which lets them invert the signal when negative CV comes in. Also known as ring modulation. With the zero crossing detector, this can produce some super wild wave shapes.

Notes: Bucket brigade delay gets pushed into exciting creative territory with this beauty from Joranalogue. Precise analogue delay with loads of character, capable of simple chorus and flanger or more exotic Karplus-Strong synthesis and comb filtering.

While digital audio processors are often plagued by latency issues, analogue circuits are known for their instant response. But what if you want to delay a signal on purpose, without the use of tape or digital memory? Enter the bucket brigade delay (BBD) line: a series of capacitor 'buckets', which pass the incoming signal along at a high rate in order to delay it.

Delay 1 is a fully analogue BBD-based delay module with a multitude of features geared towards modern musical use. An integrated temperature-compensated, high-frequency voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) provides the 'clock' signal necessary to drive the delay line within 1 to 50 ms.

By increasing the drive frequency to over 20 kHz, the classic 'BBD clock whine' problem is solved, while still providing a wide range in delay time. Classic chorus, flanger and echo effects are easily achieved using the dry/wet blend, feedback and damping parameters.

To greatly reduce distortion and noise, Delay 1 includes a newly developed control circuit. The improved fidelity is maintained at a multitude of signal levels by an integrated high-performance compander, while maintaining signal dynamics.

The module's 'split phase' topology provides two different dry/wet mixes, which may be used to convert mono signals to stereo, for complementary comb filtering and more.

Delay 1 also allows you to experiment with Karplus-Strong synthesis, an exciting technique to create string and percussion type sounds. This is made easy by an integrated noise transient generator, driven by the 'pluck' input, and by the clock VCO's 1 volt per octave response.

By re-engineering the classic analogue delay line, Delay 1 brings the unique magic of BBDs into the contemporary electronic musician's arsenal.

Signal flow is an essential concept in modular synthesis: the path taken by audio or control voltages (CVs) may be long or short, branching or linear, intuitive or highly complex.

While the patch programmability of a modular system is its greatest strength, it can also be a weakness: quick experimentation is often hampered by the need to repatch the synthesiser to change the signal flow.

Pivot 2 offers a unique solution: a compact, fully voltage controlled variable signal router. At the turn of a single knob, any signal can be routed through two external modules in series, parallel or reverse series, as well as any combination in between.

Experiment with patching wavefolders before, after or alongside filters, shuffle multiple delay lines, precisely dial in two-stage audio compression or easily control intricate feedback patches.

Looking beyond the basic signal routing application, Pivot 2 will also function as a complementary pair of counter-acting linear voltage controlled amplifiers (VCAs), a voltage controlled crossfader or a voltage controlled panner.

Notes: A unique analogue take on granular synthesis, inspired by Yannis Xenakis, the Grainity pairs a granular filter with a multimode filter to create new textures and harmonics.

The Grainity brings a unique and never-heard-before concept to the world of analogue VCF.

While being based on analogue filtering only, the Grainity expands and enriches the sound in creating subharmonics, harmonies, unison, flanging effects and formant filtering all at once.

The module presents two sections, the granular filter itself and a typical multimode filter, each with its own output.

A third output offers a mix of both filter paths. Numerous controls and CV allow a very wide palette of results.

What is the Grainity

Granular?

The word granular was chosen for this filter module in relation to the concept invented by the composer Yannis Xenakis, and which is described as assembling small chops of sounds - he called grains - according to a pattern.

This is exactly what the Grainity does, no more no less ... but, digital control allows doing it in ways that are decades away from what tape and scissors allowed at the time.

Technology wise ...

In the granular section, the incoming sound cycle is determined in order to step through various filtering and phase variations of itself according to predefined patterns called structures.

The controls allow alterations to the cycling phase, cycling frequency offset (tuning), structure selection and frequency division of the filters cycling. This comes in addition to the usual filter frequency and resonance controls.

What the Grainity is not

Technology wise ...

Despite relying on a microprocessor, the Grainity is not a digital audio processor. At any time, the sound remains in the analog domain and goes through analog circuits from in to out.
The digital processor does not convert or generate audio signals; it is there to control the analog circuitry and manage the interface and display.

Sound wise ...

Several digital modules offering granular processing rely on the layering of sound grains, which leads to blurry and cloudy textures.
Layering of the grains is a late addition to the concept of granular synthesis and is not a mandatory feature of the concept.
The Grainity does not use delay lines or sampling memory but is nevertheless true to the foundations of the granular synthesis concept.

The granular VCF in the Grainity is unconventional in that, most of times, it is not filtering the sound in the common expectation of removing something. Typically, the granular process adds more than it removes by expanding both the lower range, creating subharmonics, and the upper harmonic contents in multiples ways.

Notes: The OpticTone is a combination of a 12dB multi-mode Vactrol Filter and a Vactrol Voltage Controlled Amplifier.

It is a completely original circuit inspired by the singular nature of Vactrols and their fluid and natural character.

The Filter section provides the three fundamental filter types: Lowpass, Bandpass and Highpass.

A Resonance knob with voltage control input is available for improved modulation flexibility. The feedback knob interacts with the Resonance path, tempering it from creamy resonance to wacky self-oscillation.

Filter and VCA run in parallel, both are controlled by the Freq/Amp knob and it's associated voltage-control input. The combination of both signals can be crossfaded with a dedicated knob.

The Freq/Amp is also controlled with direct touch control on the panel via the 3 lines below the knob.

The filter frequency control can be inverted by the Inv Freq switch, providing the possibility to change the filter direction. This feature allows the filter to "close" when the VCA is "opening" or the other way around.

The Ping input allows to generate the well known vactrol filter percussive sounds if a gate or trigger signal is provided. The Ping frequency if controlled by the Freq/Amp knob, ranging from low kicks drums to high pitch bongos.

There is also a Drive knob to take care of your saturation needs. The Overdrive range is wide, from soft textural clipping to heavy distortion.

All voltage controlled inputs have an attenuator-inverter knob.

Notes: Designed with versatility in mind, MapVolt is a dual-channel Universal Voltage Processor built for flexibility in handling audio and CV signals.

With only 6hp, Mapvolt is a multipurpose tool for voltage-controlled scaling, inverting, offsetting, subtracting, and mixing functions.

Each channel of MapVolt can operate in either Polarizer or Attenuator mode, allowing manual control via knobs or CV signals. In Polarizer mode, it functions as a Voltage Controlled Attenuator-Inverter, granting control over signal level and polarity. Additionally, it can be used as a Four-Quadrant Multiplier or Ring Modulator for audio signals, with the processor input serving as the carrier signal and the polarizer's CV input acting as the modulator.

In Attenuator mode, MapVolt operates as a VCA, providing control over signal levels. Its VCA CV input range of +5/-5 makes it well-suited for amplitude modulation (AM) with other +/-5V waveforms.

Notes: A Juno-inspired oscillator module? We're flattered, but credit has to go to Roland for this one. Based on the Juno-106's digitally-controlled analogue oscillators, the Castor & Pollux modernises the 80s design with a built-in LFO and hard sync.

Castor & Pollux is a dual oscillator that echoes back to the legendary Roland Juno but shines with its own unique, massive voice. It contains two digitally-controlled analogue oscillators implemented using a faithfully modernized version of the original Juno 106 design. It builds on the classic '80s sounds of its inspiration by using the second oscillator and internal LFO to layer in thick detuned sounds and harmonically complex hard synced waveforms.

Notes: YYS is a super useful spin on the 4x2 matrix mixer. Instead of comparatively boring unipolar attenuators to send to the destination channels, attenuverters were used. This allows combinations of DC signals that can cancel each other out to make interesting new waveforms, and with audio signals can cause strange stereo cancellations. dsp.coffee also included inverted outputs and bipolar LEDs as a bonus.

Notes: A clever approach to VCOs here. Three unevenly phased sawtooth signals are blended to create phase cancellations and unorthodox harmonics. Simple but deep.

Explore the sonic space of phase cancellation! Phase cancellation shapes the characteristics of all acoustic instruments. It forms the basis of chorus and phaser effects. It gives vibrancy to detuned oscillators. The vibrant sound of pulse width modulation or the roaring sound of animated supersaws are a small part of a much larger sonic space that the Triphase Oscillator is built to discover.

The Triphase Oscillator produces three different sawtooth waves at the exact same pitch but with independent phase control. These are blended in a bipolar CP3-type mixer, giving a rich waveform at the output. By blending in a wave with a positive polarity, you reinforce in-phase harmonics; by blending a wave with a negative polarity, you reduce in-phase harmonics. The phase differences between the waves distribute the harmonics from in-phase to out-of-phase. The result is a comb-filter effect, like the effect produced by an acoustic reflection, with notches and peaks spaced evenly throughout the frequency range. Conventional pulse width modulation can be obtained by blending two sawtooth waves with equal but opposite polarity. Supersaw-like behavior can be obtained by using phase CV with the same polarity for all three waves. But many other interesting spaces can be reached. For example, by setting the phases correctly you can cancel out the first harmonic and get a saw an octave higher, or cancel both the first and the second harmonic, giving you a saw an octave and a fifth above the fundamental frequency. Modulation then brings back these canceled harmonics.

The Triphase Oscillator is completely analog, built around a sawtooth core that is functionally stable and accurate but sonically alive. It has linear FM on all three waves, and an excellent hard sync that can create shredding harmonic sweeps. The CP3 type mixer gives good distortion at higher levels, allowing you to blend three 5-volt-peak waves without worrying about headroom. All CV functions at audio rate. With an LFO driving the phases, it can easily replace the classic analog three oscillator setup, and in this configuration it's one of the fattest things you have ever heard. But the Triphase oscillator is much more than a thickener, and can just as easily produce thin reedy sounds or subtly shifting harmonic drones.

ADDAC started this module with the idea of developing a complex drum source however, somewhere along the process, it was clear how much better it performed as a synth voice and this lucky accident was embraced.

It features a VCO with a [FREQUENCY] and [FINE TUNE] knob plus a dedicated CV Input and Attenuator knob (tunable over 4 octaves).

The VCO waveform output is achieved by selecting either a Triangle or Saw through a switch. the selected waveform can then be mixed/balanced against the square wave. The resulting mix is then sent to the Filter.

The Filter features a [CUTOFF] and [RESO] resonance knob plus a Cutoff CV Input and Attenuverter knob.

A 3 position switch is used to select the filter type: Highpass, Bandpass or Lowpass.

The resulting output is then sent to the VCA.

The VCA features an Input with [INPUT GAIN] knob which at maximum can amplify the incoming signal by a factor of 2.

This is a very important control, it accepts any signal Trigger, Gate or CV. Whatever input is plugged in the signal is then fed through an AD with a very short attack and controllable decay through the [VCA DECAY] knob plus the CV Input and Attenuverter knob. The resulting slewed signal is then used to control the VCA gain.

This signal is also sent to the CV OUTPUT as well as the LED monitor.

The Accent input adds to the Input signal creating a different amplitude output.


The CV OUTPUT is normalled to the Frequency and Cutoff inputs.

The [INPUT GAIN] knob

Usually Attack/Decay envelopes have a maximum voltage of +5v, no matter if the input gate is +5v or above the AD will clip at +5v. In this case, this clipping method was not used, and instead ADDAC allowed the incoming voltage to determine the maximum AD voltage, meaning that if a +5v gate is present then the AD maximum voltage will be +5v but if a gate of +10v is sent then the AD maximum voltage will be +10v.
This also means that with higher input voltages the decay, although falling at the same speed, will be longer than with lower voltages as it has a longer range to go back to 0v.

As previously mentioned, The [INPUT GAIN] knob can amplify the incoming input by a factor of 2, allowing to use a standard +5v gate or envelope and being able to make the resultant AD go up to +10v.

The AD signal is responsible for opening the VCA. Up to +5v the VCA will open to unity gain above this value the VCA will start to amplify and eventually saturate and distort. This saturation will add harmonics to the signal which will change its gentle timbrical nature to a more unique and peculiar timbre that will make the module shine in Acid contexts.

Adding high levels of Resonance or even filter self oscillation in combination with high VCA saturation will create even more harmonics that ADDAC highly encourage the user to explore.

Notes: The 2CVADD-HQ is a dual precision adder especially for adding 1V/octave (pitch-controlling) CVs. This makes it possible e.g. to transpose a sequence. Compared to general purpose CV mixers (like POLAMIX), this module does the summing of the CVs very precise (within a few millivolts), so the desired pitch is not affected.

The module offers three CV inputs for each of the both units; the first unit has an additional fourth input where the CV is subtracted - meaning "transposition downwards".

The ADSR module offers the classic four-stage envelope (Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release) that is not only loopable (patch the end output into gate input) but also accepts CV control over each of the stages! For the time values (A, D, R) the value set by the knob can be increased to five times the duration by the corresponding CV value. For the Sustain value the knob and CV value are simply added.

Notes: The CVSHIFTER module is the AE version of the well-known analogue shift register modules that are around in the modular world since a long time. It works like this: The CV input is sampled with each trigger input signal and this CV is sent to the CV 1 output; at the same time, all CV outputs 1-4 are shifted by one.

Compared to the "classic" circuits, this module is digital based and therefore doesn't suffer from drift as some analogue ASRs and S&Hs do. The result is, that you can e.g. control the pitch of up to four oscillators which is a first step into polyphony.

The CVSHIFTER module offers three modes:

Classic: Each trigger shifts the CV outs by one position, the new CV goes to output CV 1
Cycle: Each trigger sends the CV to the next output channel, restarting at out 1; additionally a gate signal at the according output.
Random: The CVs are sent in random order to one of the four outputs, plus a gate at the according output.

Notes: AGOGO is a pack of 8 vactrol low pass gates in an open design configuration.

How:

"I", the inputs row is normalized from top to bottom.

An input inserted in the first socket will be copied unaltered to the next one.

If a jack is plugged in it will break the normalization.

"V" is for control voltages and they cascade the same way as the inputs following to natural decay of the vactrol response. All the LPGs can be opened simultaneously with a single CV source. Combining the features of both "I" and "V" rows you can control a signal with 8 different CVs or 8 different sources with the same CV.

"O" stands for outputs. They act as an active mixer letting you combine up to 8 signals. As in the previous two rows, the connection can be interrupted in any given point to create sub mixes or individual outputs.

Since Jolin are actively summing copies of the original input, each LPG stage will add saturation to the final out. Thanks to the open design path and normalizations this is just an additional feature: all the LPGs can still be used individually or in multiple combinations for multichannel effects or other creative application. More AGOGOs can be chained together thanks to headers on the back to multiplicate the number of inputs/outputs.

How:

Plug a cable in one of the sockets and the other end specularly on the opposite side. Check if the blue LEDs light up steady in a number equal to the cores of the cable you are testing. Wiggle the wire back and forth just to be sure that all the individual cores are firmly connected.

Due to its configuration, the connection is considered true only if there is no continuity between the adjacent wires or discontinuity in that specific core. This smart feature will avoid false positives.

On top there are two LEDs indicators directly wired to the power lines to check if the -12V or +12V PSU power lines are misbehaving.

The Furthrrrr Generator has a main oscillator (carrier) with an extensive and fully voltage controllable wave multiplier and a modulation oscillator (modulator) that can cross-modulate the carrier. Each oscillator has hard and soft sync and also features an integrated tuner: if both LEDs are lit the VCO is at note A. Left LED is lit at note Ab and right LED at A#. Frequency potentiometers are ten-turn models and thus allow for easy tuning. Frequency range of the VCOs is 10Hz-10kHz (and much lower in modulator's LFO mode). Both VCOs feature 2 frequency CV inputs (1x with bipolar attenuator, 1x with 1V/octave), one FM input (jumper selectable between linear and exponential FM) as well as separate input for hard and soft sync. The voltage characteristic can be selected between 1V/octave and 1.2V/octave (Buchla norm).

The main oscillator (carrier) outputs the waveforms sine, saw, square and white noise. The two outputs marked with the magic eye are outputs of the "harmonic section" that generates very complex sounds by the wave multiplier and its parameters symmetry, order and Furthrrrr in the module's right-hand section. Symmetry lowers the level of even harmonics and amplifies the odd harmonics (this affects the pulse wave's width as well). Order adds saturation to the high order harmonics and resembles a low pass filter. Furthrrrr alters the level of harmonics set by the other parameters and produces very interesting, partly brute sounds with lots of harmonics by clipping and folding the wave. All three parameters can be voltage controlled. The carrier oscillator also has inputs for hard and soft sync, the sync-switch can synch directly to the modulator.

The modulation oscillator (modulator) has three wave forms with direct outputs: sine, saw and square. Using the internal modulation via the "mood section" the waveform is selected with a button; an additional staircase wave form is available here, but it can be overridden by inserting a signal into the external input socket. A switch activates the LFO mode.

The Mood section is responsible for the internal modulation of the carrier by the modulator. Switches determine the modulation destination(s) that can be activated simultaneously. These are the Furthrrrr parameter of the harmonic section, the amplitude and the frequency of the carrier oscillator. The "balanced" switch activates the ring modulation between both VCOs. intensity of modulation is controlled by the "mood index" potentiometer and the according CV input with bipolar attenuator.

A characteristically unique take on mixing from Buchla, with six mono inputs and a built-in mic/guitar pre-amp. Each channel can be cued to a monitor mix, while the first and last channels also include voltage-controlled panning.

The Wave Transformer is a complex single oscillator with 7 audio outputs. Its method of wave shaping differs from other complex oscillators in that it is not based upon classic wave folding such as is common in West Coast synthesis, or filtration such as is common in East Coast synthesis.

This analogue, vintage-voiced, voltage-controlled oscillator features over 8 octaves of accurate pitch tracking. Its 7 simultaneous wave outputs include a unique Complex output. This strange and novel output varies between a simple waveform (triangle, unless you patch a signal into the Shape Insert jack) and a complex transformation of the harmonic structure of the original waveform. It contains a unique mixture of the fundamental frequency, odd order harmonics, even order harmonics and subharmonics. The Sub Octave panel control will determine whether the sub harmonics are derived from one octave down, two octaves down, or are muted altogether. It will vary from a simple waveform to a silhouette of your cat watching you as you react to a "present" that it left for you on the counter. No, seriously.

The module's Transform control morphs from a basic waveform through many strange iterations into a complex, gnarled mass of audio mutations at the Complex output using an asymmetrical multi differential audio transmutation circuit. You can yield countless variations on these permutations by combining this novel circuit with Hard Sync, Soft Sync, Linear FM and Exponential FM.

Additionally, you can mute the source waveform to use the circuit as a harmonic gate/VCA, rendering the Wave Transformer a voice unto itself.

Camber is designed to be a fun, tactile filter with a small footprint. It's sound is neutral enough for basic filtering without a fuss, with a much more aggressive tone available using high resonance settings in three-pole mode.

Filter Core

The core of the filter is based on a state variable topology using 2164 VCAs and 1% tolerance integrating capacitors. Resonance and feedback control is provided by the fantastic circuit design originally by Neil Johnson "Voltage Controlled 3-Pole State Variable Filter" recently made available in Sound Semiconductor documentation.

Operation

Camber is switchable between low pass and high pass responses with one pole (6dB) and three pole (18dB) flavours of each. It has full CV control of both cutoff frequency and resonance amount. The input is DC-coupled allowing LFO and CV signals to be routed through the filter. The filter will also act as a simple oscillator producing a clean sinusoidal signal with the resonance control turned *almost fully clockwise, and no signal at the audio input. Dialling in the resonance so that it is just under the point of self-oscillation allows the filter to be "Pinged" by sending gate signals to the audio input. This is useful for tuned percussion sounds and FX.

Perform a variety of mixing and sound design duties ranging from subtle brightness and clarity adjustments to low-end rumble removal, boosted low-pass filtering and sweep EQ.

In the default tilt mode, turning the control knob clockwise simultaneously boosts treble and cuts bass. Turning anti-clockwise boosts bass and cuts treble. These boosts and cuts are pivoted around the mid-range. With the control knob at 12 o'clock the frequency response is neutral.

With Baxandall high-shelf mode enabled, turning the control knob clockwise past 12 o'clock introduces and gentle high-shelf EQ weighted around the upper mid-range. Turning the control knob anti-clockwise results in a wide high-shelf cut with subtle bass and mid-range adjustments.

Notes: The Z2040 is TipTop Audio's redesign of the most famous analogue filter from the polysynths of the 80's and features Tiptop Audio's signature lush, big, and creamy sound. Its frequency sweeps make thick bass lines and leads with great dynamics. When modulated with audio frequencies through its various inputs, the Z2040 gets quite colourful and is capable of creating many new sounds and textures as the forces of the incoming waves and their harmonics blend through the filter's non-linear circuit. When set with Resonance feedback fully up, the Z2040 transforms into a pure sine-core VC-Oscillator, great for making snappy percussive elements and whistling sounds.

A look under the hood will find that the heart of the Z2040 is a discrete design 4-pole low pass filter with a core similar to that of the SSM2040 filter chip, used in the 80's Prophet 5 Rev 2 synthesizer, and its brother the SSM2044, used in the famous early EMU samplers and PPG synthesizers of the 80's. Both filters are considered by many to be, "the best sounding filter ever".

The Z2040's four modulation inputs are built to handle CV and audio signals, enabling deep modulation of the filter core and passing signals. A VC resonance input is provided to modulate and even clip the sine wave produced by the filter feedback loop. A Frequency Modulation input (FM) provides dynamic filter sweeps and the unique VC-FM index allows modulation of the incoming FM signals. On top of that, the Z2040 comes with an audio VCA that can be configured to act upon the input or the output of the filter.

Notes: WAYOUT8 is a patchbay module for Eurorack systems used to group your DAW inputs and outputs, or manage signals going from one case to another. Wayout8 is grounded, meaning that even if nothing is plugged into the inputs your outputs are still grounded and will not pick up noise. The module is made so it can be mounted two ways, with outputs on the left or right, whichever is the most ergonomic placement in your case. All eight channels are passive so they do not modify your signals and can be used for audio and CV Gate. No power is required.

Notes: The BXx2 is a dual channel preamp, EQ and mixer based on the classic Boss BX series mixers. With the inclusion of both input gain and level controls, each channel can be overdriven, producing the signature saturated and lively sound the BX mixers are known for. The EQ controls provide the channels with simple but great sounding high and low shelf EQs for emphasising and shaping sounds and an additional 'Aux' input allows another mixer or extra sound source to be chained in.

The BXx2 was designed in collaboration with Feedback Modules and is based on their single channel 'PRE BX' module.

Notes: The 'Stereo Sum' is a unity gain summing mixer that features four stereo input pairs summed as pairs to two independent mix outs or all as a single combined mix. It is a useful utility for efficiently combining outputs of multiple stereo sources, such as the MEGA-TANG and Jumble Henge mixers or multiple MFX returns. The inputs accept stereo or mono signals (via normalisation) which can be audio or CV (module is DC coupled) and the top mixer's outputs are normalised to the bottom mixer section meaning if the upper output is left unpatched the two upper inputs will be added to the lower output.

Notes: Introducing a limited edition re-release of this iconic electronic instrument in a modular format.

This limited edition of 75 units is a tribute to the pioneering work of Dutch musician and instrument maker Michel Waiswisz (1949 - 2008), who first invented the Cracklebox with Geert Hamelberg in the late 1960s.

The Cracklebox was a small, handheld device designed as a way to explore new sonic territories. It was one of the first electronic musical instruments to use circuit bending techniques in the creation of electronic music. It allowed musicians to manipulate and control electronic circuits in real-time, creating a wide range of unique and experimental sounds. He used a circuit from a toy piano as the basis for the instrument, and then added a series of touch-sensitive pads that were connected to the circuit. When a player touched one of the pads, the circuit would be completed, producing a crackling sound.

The Cracklebox was probably the first commercially available portable self-powered alternative 'keyboard' analogue electronic instrument with inbuilt loudspeaker.

In the 1970s about 4000 Crackleboxes were built and sold by STEIM in Amsterdam.

Nowadays many people refer to the The Cracklebox as the archetype of 'glitch' or 'circuit bending'.

In the decades since its invention, the Cracklebox has continued to be an important and influential instrument in the world of electronic music. It is still in use today, and is considered a classic example of the potential of electronic music to create unique and innovative sounds.

This Eurorack recreation includes a 9v battery, swappable through the front panel, this allows to isolate the current flowing through the user's fingers from the Eurorack frame PSU, protecting the user from undesired electrical shocks. The internal speaker has been removed, a transformer has been used instead to isolate the output signal.

The output generated can be used as an audio, as a gate or a cv signal, when using it as a cv source, due to the specific qualities of the signal, users may want to send it through other modules as slews, sample and holds, quantizers to tame/control it's peculiar cv output.

Controls:

- The module features an on/off switch to turn off the 9v battery (remember to turn it off when you turn off your Eurorack system).
- A Power Starve knob, reduces the 9v voltage feeding the circuitry changing it's overall timbre/pitch
- An Output Gain knob to control the output volume.
- A Boost switch to add more presence to the signal.

Notes: Drawing inspiration from the MMI Maxima, the MMI Helios is intended as a middle ground between the gestural control surface of the Maxima and the fingertip control of the smaller MMI.

Less density, but a much higher degree of patch control is the key point of the Helios, which complements other MMI devices very well, and can be joined with other Helios (Helii?) to form larger and creative control surfaces.

The design is greatly simplified compared to the original MMI, with only two I/O jacks - either can function as input and output, and their interaction with each other is determined by touching both plates simultaneously to form a connection, or in cooperation with other MMI devices.

Available in a "right" and "left" version - one is an exact mirror image of the other, which makes it suitable for having two units adjacent to one another.

Notes: The Herzlich Man Machine Interface - a beloved instrument, but what if there was even more of it? An MMI with more than one dimension? An MMI arranged in a manner of... matrix?

With operation identical to it's little brother, the MMI Matrix allows the user to patch inputs to outputs by connecting zig-zagged patterns together with fingers, fruits, cables, pizza slices or any other conductive source. The labyrinth patterns will immediately connect the zig-zags immediately adjacent, whether above and below, or on each side. Furthermore, the two labyrinths within labyrinths will connect ALL adjacent inputs and outputs, which may lead to beautiful disasters or otherworldly insights.

As with its predecessor, the MMI Matrix is fully touch and pressure sensitive, reacting to the amount of pressure exerted, the amount of skin connecting, and the resistive quality of your body. Incredibly easy to perform with, the MMI Matrix offers new and far more advanced ways to patch your performances, whether CV, triggers or audio signals. Create reverb swells that vary between different types of reverb, use multiple fingers and labyrinth patterns to mix trigger signals into complex polyrhythms or create beautiful chords by combining various pitch inputs with a chord oscillator. The MMI Matrix also integrates very well with it's little brother, so there is absolutely no need to hold back!

Oh, and as always, it uses NO power! But it will take up 10hp of space in your system. A fair deal!

Notes: The MMI Maxima is the final word in MMI technology. Beautiful gold patterns form gradients of touch sensitive surface areas, each connected to an input/output. Drag, rub, pinch or tap your fingers across to form connections, and create evocative and unique performances. Utilize the various pattern densities and shapes in your performance, or create installations with whatever conductive material is to hand.

Operation is easy: simply plug any audio, LFO, CV, trigger, gate, offset or clock into any of the inputs on the front panel, and connect one or several outputs to destinations in your system. The symbols near the sockets correspond to the shapes on the panel, and all that remains is for you to form the connection between the desired symbols with your hand, or any other conductive object you may have. Connect multiple at the same time to achieve liquid, gradual mixing, evolving rhythmic patterns, mixed LFOs and more. Furthermore, touch the pressure plates more firmly or in more dense areas to form stronger connections - in practice, this means a signal will pass with more or less intensity, based on the pressure you apply.

There are countless possibilities here: the shapes make it easy to memorize your patch, and the many inputs and outputs allow for enormous creativity. Eight inputs and one output? No problem. Maybe you want eight outputs sharing one input? Also no problem. Why not patch in an offset voltage, and then use the pressure sensitivity to sweep a filter with the offset patched into the filter resonance CV control? Or maybe create volume swells by patching audio into a VCA, or even an effect, for reverb or delay swells. Maybe you want to create chords, crescendos or chaotic and swiftly changing drum patterns?

Although practice helps, there are no rules for playing the MMI Maxima. Use it upside down or downside up, rack it, tape it to your body or drill it into your guitar and use it with the expression input on your pedals (yes, this is actually possible. Seriously.) With no external power needed, it makes an excellent performance companion for any system, big or small, modular, semi-modular or even not-modular-at-all.

Intended as a controller for musicians and non-musicians alike, the purpose of the MMI Maxima is to put emphasis on your performance and expression, rather than your competence at the ivory keys or dexterity at a drum pad. Let your hands, slices of pickled cucumber or other conductive everyday objects do the talking, through a combination of clever patching and expressive play - with the MMI Maxima, you have a performance tool unlike any other at your disposal.

The MMI Maxima comes in a custom case, and does not require external power to operate. Enjoy the Maxima either as a standalone controller, or rack it in your system if you desire.

Notes: The Om is a slim, passive 2hp LPG with characterful resonance. Taking notes from its bigger brother, the Omen, the Om offers similarly beautiful resonant LPG action in half the size and skiff-friendly depth.

In a convergence of old-school LPG design and more modern components, the Om boasts a single -6dB resonant filter, custom hand-built vactrol and no less than three cutoff modes designed to inspire your next sounds.

Although the little brother of the Omen, the Om brings a distinct sound to the table. Do not mistake the Om for an Omen sawn in half, as they will both provide musically interesting and useful sounds to your setup.

Exactly as with the Omen, care has been taken to create a circuit with near-zero audio bleed and the best possible characteristics for a passive LPG. Of course, many of the natural features of vactrols remain, such as subtle memory effect when engaging the vactrol for long periods.

Finally, you receive maximum blinkenlights as an LED on the front panel simulates the action of the vactrol, so you'll always know what's going on under the hood. No collection of fancy LPG's is complete without the Om(en)!

Notes: You want less sound, and you want it fast. You want a mute that doesn't take up any power, a mute that doesn't take up a lot of space, and a mute that accepts three signals. You want a mute that's nice and clicky, and a mute that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Notes: In recent years, stereo signal paths have increasingly found their way into the wonderful world of Eurorack synthesis - so naturally, utilities should follow suit. Introducing the Herzlich PSA, a simple solution to a problem you might not even realize you had. Far from just useful as an attenuator for audio sources in mixdowns, the PSA can also be used to bring audio down to more managable levels (such as line level), attenuate multiple signals simultaneously (like increasing the modulation depth of two LFO's at the same time! It's like having two hands, but with one hand!) and even function as a multiple: Attenuator 1 is normalled to Attenuator 2, so multing your stereo signal (or two mono signals) while attenuating the two signals individually is easy as pie.

There's not much else to say, except that it's passive, and draws no power - and it looks great!
