Studio monitors

Studio monitors are an essential for anyone looking to make music, allowing you to hear the music with a clarity and precision that standard hi-fi speakers and headphones can’t match. The best studio monitors are loud, clear and reliable. These days, almost all monitors are ‘active’ meaning they have amplifiers built in and you just need to connect the signal from your audio interface or mixer. It’s a matter of personal taste whether you prefer the sound of a flatter, more accurate monitor or one with a little bit more vibe and colour that engages you more in the creative process. Whichever way you prefer it, brands like PreSonus, Yamaha and Genelec offer a range of monitors at different sizes and price points. From beginner-friendly compact monitors for small studios, through to professional options, we’ve got something for everyone.

Focal Shape 65 Active Nearfield Monitor (single)
Cat: 646975 Rel: 27 Jun 17

Compact, 6.5-inch, nearfield studio monitor with unique flax sandwich cone woofer & 6.5-inch passive radiator
Notes: Shape 65 is the reference of the Shape line. Although it's dedicated to nearfield monitoring, this monitor enables extraordinary monitoring quality, in the lowest to the highest frequencies. Simply a must, this monitor will express its full potential from a listening distance of three feet away (1 metre).

The three monitors are all made in France and integrate five innovations to maximise acoustic transparency. Designed to meet the needs of nearfield monitoring, Shape monitors combine an ingenuous design and numerous settings optimised for the acoustics of small listening rooms.

These innovations provide remarkable acoustic transparency. These new work tools distinguish themselves through the wide and extremely precise stereo image. The bass register is articulated and controlled. The lower mid-range and mid-range benefit from extreme neutrality, and without any masking effects, making equalisation of these essential registers much easier. Finally, the new tweeter is what's at the source of the very high definition. It efficiently reveals any hissing, and it's also very precise in the very high end.

IK Multimedia iLoud Micro Monitor Studio Reference Monitor Speakers (pair, white)
Cat: 678849 Rel: 25 Apr 18

Compact bi-amplified studio reference monitors with on-board 56-bit DSP for linear frequency response - 50W RMS total power
Notes: Linear frequency response. Zero coloration. Transparency. Headroom. To hear the truth, you need reference speakers that offer up. Your studio monitors deliver, but what about when you're on the go? What if there was a reference monitor that could free you from the confines of the studio walls and provide you the truth in your music no matter where you are - mixing in a small makeshift recording space, mastering in a hotel room, working in your own studio, or composing on the go? Wouldn't that be sweet?

Now, with iLoud Micro Monitor, you can hear the truth in your music anytime and everywhere. The smallest active studio reference monitoring system in the world, iLoud Micro Monitor provides you with ultra-accurate true linear frequency response with no coloration of sound, and can do so in every listening environment. Sound too good to be true? Read on...

iLoud Micro Monitors are two extremely portable, high-performance bi-amped speakers that deliver a combined 50W RMS of power for superior bass, plenty of headroom and an expansive stereo image. Whether you're recording, editing, mixing, or mastering audio, iLoud Micro Monitor ensures your mix will translate well to the huge variety of consumer devices - headphones, home stereo systems, gaming consoles, car audio systems, TVs, and other listening systems.

With iLoud Micro Monitor, you will hear the truth in your music no matter whether you're mixing, mastering or just listening to your favourite tunes at home. And best of all, it offers its portability, power and flexibility at a price that's affordable for everyone.

A legacy of power:
When the original iLoud Bluetooth speaker was released, it set a new standard for portable power and sonic accuracy. iLoud Micro Monitor is a natural evolution of that design, and just like its highly popular predecessor, it offers a completely new and unmatched portable sonic experience.

Its two speakers are powered by ultra-efficient class D power amplifiers that push a combined 50 W RMS of power. Each speaker sports a 3/4" silk dome tweeter, a 3" paper-cone performance woofer and a large-flaring front-firing bass reflex port. Thanks to these features, it's able to deliver pleasing high frequencies, an exceptionally "open" midrange and a solid and controlled low end. Simply put, iLoud Micro Monitor's sound is so good that it's nearly inconceivable for a speaker system of this size and at this price point.

Sonically Transparent Monitoring System:
iLoud Micro Monitor sounds amazing and real. But why? Well, a part of that is due to its internal 56-bit digital signal processor (DSP). This DSP is responsible for things like taking care of the frequency and phase response of the monitor as well as also controlling the dynamic range so that the drivers are always controlled. It also acts as a digital crossover that allows for invisibly smooth transitions between the drivers themselves.

Adjustable audio:
You're bound to come across all sorts of listening environments when you're on the go. Most speakers can't handle this kind of variety, but iLoud Micro Monitor can. Its internal DSP is controllable thanks to three dedicated EQ switches. You get switches for bass and treble as well as a "DESKTOP" compensation switch - this lets you switch between a "free field" and "desktop" setup effortlessly.

You can also position iLoud Micro Monitor at two angles of inclination, so you can optimize your listening experience to suit the characteristics of the room you're working in.

Get connected:
You can easily use iLoud Micro Monitor with all your favourite gear. Sending an audio signal to it couldn't be easier. It has inputs for both RCA and 1/8" connectors, and it can also be paired via Bluetooth to any Bluetooth-enabled device. With all of its inputs, you'll always be able to use its ultra-linear sound to monitor your music no matter where you are or what device you're using.

The perfect laptop monitoring companion:
Reference monitor sound anytime and everywhere - iLoud Micro Monitor makes it possible. Its two speakers make for one incredibly small and portable system that delivers exceptional sound in any environment. Their compact size make for the perfect monitoring system to use while traveling with your laptop. They easily pack up into a gig bag or backpack so you can use their phenomenal sound anywhere.

IK Multimedia iLoud MTM Powered Studio Reference Monitor With Measurement Microphone (single, black)
Cat: 718618 Rel: 25 Jun 19

High-resolution compact studio monitor
Notes: Updated version of IK's impressive iLoud monitors featuring real-time DSP correction to compensate for the acoustics of your lab.

IK's iLoud Micro Monitors stunned an industry. Producers and engineers at every level marvelled at the performance coming from such a small setup, so IK challenged our team to push its concept even further - to design a new compact speaker to rival 5", 6" and even 8" monitors.

The result is iLoud MTM, and it changes everything about the sound, accuracy and convenience of reference monitors in today's modern studio.

Once you hear iLoud MTM, you'll find it hard to ever go back to traditional big-box speakers.
Reference-class, ultra-linear response:

The first job of any studio monitor is to deliver accurate, un-coloured sound so you can trust your mixing decisions will translate across multiple playback systems. iLoud MTM uses the most advanced DSP techniques to provide total control over the speakers' performance, delivering results simply not obtainable with traditional analogue designs.

Highs are neutral and defined, mids are clear and balanced, and lows are as balanced as ever. You can mix for hours with no ear fatigue, and the work you create will translate better than ever. And of course, it's loud, with 100W RMS total power per speaker and 103dB SPL maximum sound pressure, delivering the proven volume the iLoud brand is known for.

Extended low-end to rival larger systems:

iLoud Micro Monitor wowed the world with the bass performance it delivered from a 3" speaker that "defied physics". But iLoud MTM offers even more, with even bass response down to an astonishing 40Hz ideal for modern music styles.

iLoud MTM debuts IK's new patent-pending Physical Response Linearization (PRL) system, that uses a precise model of the enclosure's design, construction and materials, combined with electro-mechanical measurements of the real units, to correct the system's performance in real time. The result is a stunningly "firm," balanced and defined low end, to surpass the sound of speakers even twice iLoud MTM's size.

Deep bass is solid and firm - you won't believe sound like this comes from a monitor so small.

A new phase in accurate sound reproduction:

Most conventional studio monitors, even high-end designs, suffer from skewed phase response caused by traditional, phase-shifting crossovers and driver/enclosure phase alterations. The end result is an unfocused stereo image, blurry transients, and overall lack of detail. iLoud MTM leverages IK's two decades of DSP experience to offer a true phase-coherent response across the useful frequency spectrum, for unbelievably realistic, natural sound like you've never heard.

You'll hear instruments and dialogue as if it's happening live, discover more detail in your tracks than ever before, and stop wasting hours trying to EQ away issues with your mixes that were never really there. This linear-phase response is rarely found in speakers even several times iLoud MTM's price, and has to be heard to be appreciated.

Symmetrical MTM design for superior imaging and precision:

iLoud MTM uses a midrange-tweeter-midrange symmetrical design, with a pair of 3.5" high performance woofers and one 1" high definition, back-chamber loaded tweeter, which provides ultra precise, defined, point source sound that can't be achieved by traditional 2-way systems at close distances. This means an even more natural, life-like sound, where the speakers "disappear" and you can focus on the music. It also minimizes the ear fatigue caused by traditional 2- or 3-way designs, where different frequencies arrive at your ear at different times. So you can mix longer, with less effort.

iLoud MTM's design also offers exceptional sound dispersion, enhancing the transparency and neutrality of what you hear.

Instantly adjust to any room environment:

Today's studios can be anywhere, from acoustician-designed spaces to a spare bedroom. Too many speaker manufacturers keep designing for ideal acoustic environments, ideal positioning and large listening distances. But many musicians simply don't have that luxury.

iLoud MTM offers built-in acoustic self-calibration via the included ARC reference microphone, to automatically adjust the frequency response to its placement. Just set up the monitors, put the microphone in your preferred listening position, press a button and you'll instantly have a custom calibration for the sweet spot of your listening environment.

Digitally-controlled for precision audio:

iLoud MTM uses audiophile-grade high resolution algorithms and the top-of-the line A/D converters to carefully manage cross-overs, filtering, time alignment, equalization, dynamics control and auto-calibration. Totally DSP-controlled and precision time-aligned, iLoud MTM also manages the off-axis response to manage the effects of room reverberations.

IK Multimedia iLoud MTM Powered Studio Reference Monitor With Measurement Microphone (single, white)
Notes: White version of IK's clever MTM monitors, which use digital signal processing to analyse your room and ensure the flattest possible frequency and phase response.

Supplier notes:
IK Multimedia has added a white colour option for its iLoudr MTM, a compact reference monitor designed to deliver pristine sound and unprecedented accuracy for the modern professional and home studio. It provides innovative features not found elsewhere, and sound quality that rivals monitors several times the price.

iLoud MTM delivers unsurpassed accuracy, power and bass, 100W RMS power, and a class-defying 40 Hz to 24 kHz frequency response for a "firm", balanced and defined low end, to surpass the sound of speakers twice its size.

IK's advanced DSP expertise was leveraged to offer an ultra-flat frequency response, but more importantly, a truly linear phase response - a premiere feature in this price segment available only on a handful of products costing considerably more. This provides a natural, true-to-life sound made possible by IK's advanced DSP expertise.

The symmetrical MTM (midrange-tweeter-midrange) design provides point-source performance for superior imaging, even at close distances, so users can create mixes that will translate across multiple playback systems, with no ear fatigue. The design's exceptional, controlled sound dispersion enhances the transparency and neutrality by minimizing the impact of room acoustics, for truer monitoring.

iLoud MTM also offers one-touch, acoustic self-calibration derived from IK's award-winning ARC System, with an included reference microphone to easily adjust to any room's acoustics.

Additional features include: 103dB SPL maximum sound pressure; Audiophile-grade, high resolution algorithms and top-of-the line A/D converters; Off-axis response management to minimize the effects of room reverberation; and IK's patent-pending Physical Response Linearization (PRL™) system that corrects the system's performance in real time.

iLoud MTM also comes with a tilting isolation mount that adjusts from 0- to 20- for a wide range of setups, a rubber base for horizontal shelf-placement, and a bottom thread for mic stand mounting.

Incredible accuracy and transparency, deep and defined bass, precise stereo imaging at any distance, and automatic room calibration - all in a monitor that's small enough to fit on any desktop - make iLoud MTM deal for nearfield work or as a workhorse monitor in a home or project studio.

Kali Audio IN-8 V2 Studio Monitor (single)
Cat: 852398 Rel: 25 Nov 21

A 3-way studio monitor with an 8-inch woofer and a 4-Inch midrange with a coaxial 1-inch tweeter.
Notes: Updated version of Kali's excellent three-way monitors provide superb sound in a compact format thanks to coaxial mid-range and tweeter drivers. Precise imagine and excellent bass response. Recommended.

Supplier's Notes:
Project Independence

Kali's IN-Series monitors are some of the most innovative studio monitors ever made. Combining the natural advantages of a 3-way design with hyper-realistic imaging of a co-axial mid-range and tweeter, they offer more transparency, lower distortion, and a soundstage that must be heard to be believed.

Performance

Unrivalled Punch and Detail.

The IN-Series monitors are unlike anything you've ever heard. The three-way design lets both the woofer and the tweeter do less work, resulting in better headroom and lower distortion across the frequency spectrum.

At the same time, the coaxial architecture of the midrange and tweeter result in hyper-realistic imaging. This means that you'll be able to hear subtle details in your mix with pinpoint precision.

The design of the system comes together to allow the IN-Series monitors to act as acoustic point sources. They enjoy all the benefits of both traditional 3-way systems and traditional coaxial speakers, with none of the drawbacks traditionally associated with either.

All of this make the IN-5 and IN-8 extremely accurate and easy to mix on. You'll be able to work faster and with more confidence, and your mixes are going to translate to other systems with less work.

IN-8:
140W Class D Power
37 Hz Lower Frequency Response
< 1% System THD 85 dB @ 1M
117 dB Max SPL

Accuracy

The single most important aspect of a studio monitor is its accuracy. A good studio monitor should present the material it's playing faithfully, allowing you to make critical decisions that you know will translate to all the systems that your work will ultimately be played on.

Not only do the IN-Series monitors accomplish this, but their coincident architecture allow them to be more accurate than other speakers in a wider variety of challenging acoustic environments.

Because of the IN-Series' coincident architecture, you may notice a dip between 8-10 kHz when measuring with a single stationary microphone. The dip is an on-axis diffraction artifact of the midrange baffle interface. It is evident in on-axis measurements, but not in total sound power. Perception of timbre should be neutral in most rooms. It is not recommended to apply room-correction EQs to the INs based on single point static measurements.

Imaging

People keep harping on about the "hyper-realistic" imaging of the IN-Series. But what does that mean?

When you listen to a stereo set of speakers, you're hearing information about where instruments and players were placed when the material was recorded. Even with purely digital material, producers can manipulate physical locations of elements in the mix, and you will hear these on a stereo recording.

Not only does this allow producers to create interesting spatial effects, but it means that you can work faster and with more confidence. An accurate soundstage lets you "see" each element of the mix in front of you, so you can hear exactly what happens when you make changes.

2-way systems with good waveguides, like Kali's LP-6 and LP-8, do a good job at conveying this spatial information. However, because the tweeter and woofer on those speakers (and most studio monitors!) are separate, this information gets lost in the space immediately above and below the speaker. This means that at the listening position, you're not hearing the full stereo picture.

The IN-Series solves this problem. The tweeter and midrange share an acoustic center, and the woofer is crossed over at a low-mid frequency, so the distance between the woofer and midrange is well under a quarter wavelength at the crossover point. This means that each IN-Series monitor is acoustically a point source. As such, it has the same excellent directivity that the LP-6 and LP-8 have at their sides in a full 360 degrees around the speaker. You're hearing all of the spatial information at the listening position, so the soundstage that you hear will have every detail that's present in the mix.

Clarity

The IN-Series monitors have very low distortion. This is the result of unburdening both the woofer and the tweeter, so that both are doing less work; the tweeter is only focused on high frequencies, and the woofer only has to worry about bass.

Taking up the space in between in the hero of the IN-Series: the 4-Inch, profile-optimized midrange driver. This driver has a lot of work to do. In addition to reproducing midrange frequencies, it also acts as the waveguide for the tweeter. This means that the shape needed to be precisely engineered to provide an ideal dispersion characteristic for the tweeter.

Performance

Unrivaled Punch and Detail.

Cat: 859792

B-STOCK: Box opened, product in perfect working order
Notes: ***B-STOCK: Box opened, product in perfect working order***

Big and powerful nearfield monitors from the California brand. Tri-amped three-way design with an 8-inch bass driver for serious bass power. Hugely impressive and reasonably priced.

Supplier's notes:
Kali's IN-8 is one of the most innovative studio monitors ever made. Combining the natural advantages of a 3-way design with hyper-realistic imaging of a co-axial mid-range and tweeter, it offers more transparency, lower distortion, and a soundstage that must be heard to be believed.

Power. Detail. Soundstage:

The IN-8 Studio Monitor is a speaker like no other. Using the same woofer and tweeter from Kali's celebrated LP-8, the IN-8 adds a midrange driver that surrounds the tweeter, and acts as its waveguide.

In doing so, both the tweeter and the woofer are unburdened; with a smaller workload, they are able to play more clearly and with less distortion.

The coaxial nature of the midrange and tweeter make the IN-8 an acoustic point source. Off-axis lobing is thereby eliminated, resulting in a stereo soundstage that presents the listener with a hyper-realistic level of detail.

All of this means that the IN-8 is extremely accurate and easy to mix on, and that mixes made on the IN-8 will transfer wonderfully to other systems.

Imaging:

We know. We keep harping on about the "hyper-realistic" imaging of the IN-8. What does that mean?

When you listen to a stereo set of speakers, you're hearing information about where instruments and players were placed when the material was recorded. Even with purely digital material, producers can manipulate physical locations of elements in the mix, and you will hear these on a stereo recording.

However, because the tweeter and woofer on those speakers (and most studio monitors!) are separate, this information gets lost in the space immediately above and below the speaker. This means that at the listening position, you're not hearing the full stereo picture.

You're hearing all of the spatial information at the listening position, so the soundstage that you hear will have every detail that's present in the mix.

Clarity:

The IN-8's total harmonic distortion is less than 1.4%, which is exceptional. This is the result of unburdening both the woofer and the tweeter, so that both are doing less work. The woofer is crossed over at 330 Hz, a full 2.5 octaves lower than on the LP-8.

The tweeter is crossed over at 3000 Hz, nearly an octave higher than on the LP-8. Taking up the space in between in the hero of the IN-8 system: the 4-Inch, profile-optimized midrange driver. This driver has a lot of work to do. In addition to reproducing midrange frequencies, it also acts as the waveguide for the tweeter. This means that the shape needed to be precisely engineered to provide an ideal dispersion characteristic for the tweeter.

It also means that the midrange needs to stay still. In many other co-axial or concentric systems, high excursion from the larger driver causes intermodulation distortion, and degrades the accuracy of the system. The midrange on the IN-8 is limited to less than 1 millimetre peak excursion, making it acoustically stationary while still providing midrange to keep up with the powerful woofer and tweeter.

Kali Audio LP-6 V2 Studio Monitor (single, black)
Cat: 852406 Rel: 25 Nov 21

A 6.5-inch studio monitor.
Notes: Performance

Transparency. Clarity. Accuracy.

Kali Audio's Lone Pine Series studio monitors are designed to allow you to hear every detail that's happening in your mix.

This starts with an exceptionally accurate frequency response. Whatever is present on your mix is what you'll hear in these monitors. Nothing is boosted or suppressed to cover flaws or try to sound more pleasing.

With the LP-6 and LP-8, you can mix with more confidence, and you can also be assured that your mix will translate as best as possible to whatever systems your audience is using.

The 2nd Wave goes even further, utilizing a more robust DSP for an even flatter frequency response on the top end.

LP-6:
80W Class D Power
39 Hz Lower Frequency Response
< 3% System THD 94 dB @ 1M
115 dB Max SPL

Features

3-D Imaging Waveguide
Hear three dimensional sound from a stereo pair of speakers.
Dual-Layer Voice Coil
Large diameter voice coil allows for low distortion and high dynamic range.
Low Noise Port Tube
Precisely engineered using airflow

Accuracy
The LPs have always been praised for their accuracy, and we're pleased to share that the 2nd Wave versions realize slight but noticeable improvements in that regard, particularly on the top end.

Power

Kali Audio defines a listening distance as the maximum distance at which the speakers can play continuously at 85 dB while maintaining 20 dB dynamic headroom.

This means that anywhere within that listening distance, you can listen for long periods of time at reference volume, and momentary peaks such as bass drops or explosion effects will come through clearly and with minimal distortion. The LP-6 has enough output for most 1-2 person setups, and the LP-8 can handle larger setups easily. Full output specifications, along with maximum listening distances, can be found in the user's manual.

Bass on the LP-Series monitors is delivered by larger magnets and larger voice coils than any comparable speakers on the market. This gives you more accurate bass response that extends lower, so you can dial in exactly the low end sound you need. Bass response is not boosted or overhyped, but you can be sure that you're hearing the bass that you have on the track.

Protective limiters prevent harmful voltage from ever reaching the drivers, so there is no risk of blowing these speakers. These have been updated for the 2nd Wave, allowing for 3 dB higher output.

Both models use 40W for the 1" soft dome tweeter. The LP-6 uses 40W for the 6.5-Inch woofer, and the LP-8 uses 60W for the 8-Inch woofer.

Ease of use

Boundary EQ Control

A speaker's given position in a space can drastically change it's frequency response. A speaker placed against a wall or on a desk will sound very different than a speaker placed on a stand, even in a well-treated space. Hard surfaces like walls, desk tops, and recording consoles can change the low end frequency response of the monitor, and degrade the overall clarity of the sound.

Happily, most of the common positions are fairly predictable and easily corrected.

Kali's team did the Boundary EQ tuning at The Village Studios in Los Angeles, and came up with boundary compensation EQ settings to help you get the optimum sound for where you need to put your speakers. For the 2nd Wave, the boundary EQs have been updated for using the speakers on a desk with monitor stands.

Combined with the LF and HF trims, this will ensure that the speakers sound their best no matter what room you're mixing in, or where the speakers are placed.

Easy Connections

The LP-6 and LP-8 both feature balanced XLR and TRS inputs, and an unbalanced RCA input.

The RCA input can be set to -10 dBu sensitivity when you're using consumer devices like a laptop or smartphone's headphone jack.

Technology

3-D Imaging Waveguide

The waveguide on the Lone Pine Series studio monitors ensures that the directivity of the loudspeaker is smooth throughout its frequency response. What's more: it's calibrated so that the sound power of the loudspeaker helps you to perceive sound accurately.

In practical terms, what this means is that you're hearing spatial details in the recording that allow your brain to place elements of the recording in the space around you. This gives the speakers a more natural, lifelike feel that exposes more of the detail of the material that you're working on. This level of detail makes it easier to make critical decisions, as well as making these monitors pleasurable to mix on and listen to in general.

Low Noise Port Tube

A port has been added to the front of the LP-Series studio monitors, so that they could be used in small spaces where they'd be placed against walls. To prevent noise from the front port that distracts from the accuracy of the speaker, this special front port that doesn't make noise has been developed.

M-Audio BX8 D3 Studio Monitor (single)
Cat: 651444 Rel: 17 Jul 17

Studio reference monitor with bi-amplified design & 8-inch Kevlar low-frequency driver
Notes: A studio monitor is no ordinary loudspeaker. Unlike a conventional speaker, a true monitor must be unerringly accurate, with a flat frequency response and vanishingly low distortion. It has to tell you, the music producer-dependably and unquestionably-exactly what is or is not in your recording. In a studio-grade monitor speaker, there is no place for the usual list of speaker colorations and limitations prevalent in conventional loudspeakers. Response peaks\dips, uneven polar response, high THD, nasal midrange, bloated mid-bass, and crossover-induced phase incoherence do nothing but undermine the confidence demanded for superior mix performance.

Introducing M-Audio's BX8-D3 monitors-the return of a studio icon and the successor to the industry-renowned BX D2 monitors. Trusted by recording/mix engineers and composers globally, M-Audio's BX monitors guarantee absolute surgical precision and repeatable engineering excellence.

Listen with confidence: with M-Audio's BX8-D3 studio reference monitors, you'll hear everything in lifelike detail, so your mixes and recordings will sound their best!

A monitor's drivers are the heart and soul of its performance. Driving the low-end and midrange, BX8-D3's 8-inch military-grade Kevlar woofers are rigid and lightweight, delivering outstanding transient response whist negating unwanted 'cone breakup'. BX8-D3's treated silk dome tweeter provides the perfect combination of low mass and the absence of audible resonances that plague conventional tweeters. Together, the BX drivers deliver critical detail, nuance and dynamic accuracy, so your mixes have the veracity and transparency you demand.

With M-Audio's BX8-D3, every detail has been meticulously engineered with one goal in mind - to facilitate the freedom to mix with confidence. BX8-D3 monitors have a rear-mounted bass port, meticulously engineered to the exact length and diameter. The result? Deep, defined bass response with maximum bass extension and resolution. When combined with a smoothly-flared port, BX8-D3 monitors markedly reduce the audibly-intrusive air turbulence that results when bass is played back at high sound pressure levels (SPLs). BX8-D3's tweeter is mounted in a custom waveguide for reliably accurate dispersion that eliminates unwanted high-frequency 'scatter', whilst ensuring a soundstage that remains consistently wide and stable. For seamless setup and easy location of the optimum listening position, the BX8-D3's front-mounted positioning LED shines brightly when you're located in the perfect listening spot, for uncompromisingly accurate and reliable critical evaluations. Finally, BX8-D3's iconic design on the front panel M-Audio's famous 'keyhole' shape is more than just an attractive look: This special 'fastenerless' design ensures so there are no driver attachment screw heads to interfere with the sound coming from the drivers.

Efficient and accurate: Driving the BX8-D3 monitors are two Class A/B internal amplifiers that power the woofer and tweeter separately - each optimised for the specific frequency range it handles and engineered to complement the characteristics of its companion driver. A precision-tuned crossover guarantees each driver only handles the frequencies that it produces most efficiently for a sound that is cohesive across the entire frequency spectrum. Play louder with less audible distortion: The BX8-D3 bi-amplified design is a far more efficient and accurate way to power a loudspeaker than using a single full-range amplifier to drive multiple driver elements.

No two listening spaces are the same. Therefore, the BX8-D3 monitors custom tailors your sound to your environment, so you will always experience sonically-true, reassuringly-accurate sound reproduction. Negate problematic bass frequencies and limit the impact of nuisance standing waves thanks to BX8-D3's special Acoustic Space control for precise adjustment of BX8-D3's sound output in line with your studio space.

Whatever your needs, the BX8-D3 Studio monitors guarantee to assimilate into your existing setup with ease. Combining conveniently-located, rear-mounted XLR and 1/4-inch balanced inputs, BX8-D3 connects to virtually all studio equipment including mixers, interfaces, DJ gear and more.

M-Audio's BX8-D3 monitors excel in every way, the rightful successor to the original studio icon. Fusing superb drivers, meticulously engineered enclosures, great-sounding amplifiers, versatile control options and standardized connection facilities, BX8-D3 delivers sound quality you can trust.

Presonus Eris E3.5 Active Media Reference Monitor Speakers (pair)
Cat: 666506 Rel: 14 Dec 17

3.5-inch powered studio monitors with Kevlar Woofer & 1-inch silk-dome tweeter
Notes: Tiny format but big sound from these entry-level Presonus monitors. Surprisingly punch bass response from a 3.5-inch bass driver. A good starting point for newcomers to production.

This monitor comes with free Studio One Prime and Studio Magic plug-ins.

Supplier's notes:

PreSonus Eris-series studio monitors are used worldwide by audio engineers who need to hear every detail of their recordings. Ideal for gaming and home video production, the Eris E3.5 employs the same technology as the larger Eris models to deliver studio-quality sound, with a smooth and accurate frequency response. Yet they're compact enough to fit almost anywhere.

Kevlar woofers deliver a cleaner overall sound:
Every Eris-series studio monitor utilizes a custom-woven Kevlar low-frequency driver. The weave and nature of the Eris E3.5's 3.5-inch Kevlar woofer result in a more constant dispersion pattern throughout the frequency range, resulting in less time-smeared audio and cleaner overall sound.

Smooth high end and wide sweet spot:
The Eris E3.5 is equipped with a one-inch silk-dome tweeter that produces a smooth and refined sound, accurately reproducing transients and high frequencies. The tweeter is designed to radiate sound with a fairly wide dispersion pattern, creating a large optimal listening area or "sweet spot" so you can move around and still hear everything accurately.

Easy-to-use controls:
A speaker's response is affected by where you place it and the acoustics of your space. That's why Eris E3.5 active media reference monitors offer easy-to-adjust high- and low-frequency controls. A convenient front-panel volume knob sets both the speaker level and the integrated headphone amplifier level. Be careful with that volume knob, though: Eris E3.5s are driven by an onboard 25 watt/side power amplifier and can get a lot louder than you may expect, while still delivering clear, accurate audio.

Connect to virtually any line-level source:
With three different types of audio inputs, it's easy to feed audio to your Eris monitors from a mixer, an interface, a media player, or almost any other line-level source. The Eris E3.5 is equipped with rear-panel, 1/4-inch TRS and RCA inputs, as well as front-panel 1/8-inch stereo, unbalanced line inputs for use with mobile audio devices. With this selection, you'll have no problem hooking your Eris speakers up with virtually any line-level source, including your smartphone or tablet. The loud, clear, front-panel headphone amplifier lets you work and play in stealth mode, without disturbing your housemates.

Accuracy defined:
Like all PreSonus monitor speakers, the Eris E3.5 offers consistent, accurate listening, with the smooth and even frequency response that has made Eris monitors popular around the world. Their compact and powerful design makes them an ideal solution for any small space.

Presonus Eris E3.5 BT Active Media Reference Studio Monitor Speakers With Bluetooth (pair)
Cat: 746019 Rel: 09 Dec 19

3.5" powered studio monitors with Bluetooth
Notes: Cracking value for money from the baby PreSonus model. Similar technology to the more expensive Eris monitors but refined into a compact, affordable package.

This monitor comes with free Studio One Prime and Studio Magic plug-ins.

Suppliers notes:
PreSonus Eris-series studio monitors are used worldwide by audio engineers who need to hear every detail of their recordings. Ideal for gaming and home video production, the Eris E3.5 BT employs the same technology as the larger Eris models to deliver studio-quality sound, with a smooth and accurate frequency response. Yet they're compact enough to fit almost anywhere.

Clean overall sound, smooth high end, and a wide sweet spot:

Every Eris-series studio monitor utilizes a woven composite low-frequency driver. The weave and nature of the Eris E3.5 BT's 3.5-inch woofer result in tight bass that you can feel, as well as cleaner overall sound. The one-inch silk-dome tweeter produces a smooth and refined sound, accurately reproducing transients and high frequencies. The tweeter is designed to radiate sound with a fairly wide pattern, creating a large optimal listening area or "sweet spot" so you can move around and still hear an accurate stereo image. With 25 watts per side of onboard power, the Eris BT-series monitor speakers pack a serious punch, while still delivering clear, accurate audio.

Easy-to-use controls:

A speaker's response is affected by where you place it and the acoustics of your space. That's why Eris E3.5 BT active media reference monitors offer controls to adjust the high- and low-frequency content, so your Bluetooth speakers always sound their best. A convenient front-panel volume knob sets both the speaker level and the integrated headphone amplifier's level.

Convenient wireless Bluetooth connectivity:

With four different types of audio inputs, it's easy to feed audio to your Eris E3.5 BT monitors from almost any source. Fast, reliable, stereo Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity lets you go wireless, streaming sound from a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or other Bluetooth source. Play games, listen to music, and even create content, with no wires except power cables. When you want a wired connection - say, from a computer, turntable, TV, or other line-level source - the Eris E3.5 BT has you covered with rear-panel, left and right 14-inch TRS and RCA inputs and front-panel 1/8" stereo inputs. A loud, clear, front-panel headphone amplifier lets you work and play in stealth mode, without disturbing your housemates.

Accuracy defined:

Like all PreSonus speakers, the Eris E3.5 BT offers consistent, accurate listening, with the smooth and even frequency response that has made Eris studio and media reference monitors popular around the world. Their compact and powerful design makes them an ideal solution for any small space. Want extra-deep low end? Pair compact Eris E3.5 BTs with PreSonus' powerful Temblor T8 active subwoofer for a truly full-range sound system that fits almost anywhere.

The controls include i6 dB gain for the midrange and i6 dB for the high frequency output. A selectable high-pass filter with off, 80 Hz, and 100 Hz settings lets you listen with or without the bass, and an acoustic space setting with flat, -2 dB, and -4 dB settings lets you adjust the monitors for your room's acoustic characteristics.

The cabinet uses resonance-suppressing internal bracing to optimise the sound output and the amplifiers include RF interference, output current limiting, over-temperature, transient, and subsonic protection circuits.

Presonus Eris E4.5 BT Active Media Reference Studio Monitor Speakers With Bluetooth (pair)
Cat: 746023 Rel: 09 Dec 19

4.5" powered studio monitors with Bluetooth
Notes: Really great value monitors from PreSonus, packing a punch from 4.5-inch woofers despite their compact overall dimensions. Bluetooth connectivity for added versatility.

This monitor comes with free Studio One Prime and Studio Magic plug-ins.

Supplier's notes:
PreSonus Eris-series studio monitors are used worldwide by audio engineers who need to hear every detail of their recordings. Ideal for gaming and home video production, the Eris E4.5 BT employs the same technology as the larger Eris models to deliver studio-quality sound, with a smooth and accurate frequency response. Yet they're compact enough to fit almost anywhere.

Clean overall sound, smooth high end, and a wide sweet spot:

Every Eris-series studio monitor utilizes a woven composite low-frequency driver. The weave and nature of the Eris E4.5 BT's 4.5-inch woofer result in tight bass that you can feel, as well as cleaner overall sound.

That's why Eris E4.5 BT active media reference monitors offer controls to adjust the high- and low-frequency content, so your Bluetooth speakers always sound their best. A convenient front-panel volume knob sets both the speaker level and the integrated headphone amplifier's level.

Convenient wireless Bluetooth connectivity:

With four different types of audio inputs, it's easy to feed audio to your Eris E4.5 BT monitors from almost any source. Fast, reliable, stereo Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity lets you go wireless, streaming sound from a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or other Bluetooth source. Play games, listen to music, and even create content wirelessly. When you want a wired connection - say, from a computer, turntable, TV, or other line-level source - the Eris E4.5 BT has you covered with rear-panel, left and right 1/4-inch TRS and RCA inputs and front-panel 1/8" stereo inputs. A loud, clear, front-panel headphone amplifier lets you work and play in stealth mode, without disturbing your housemates.

Accuracy defined:

Like all PreSonus speakers, the Eris E4.5 BT offers consistent, accurate listening, with the smooth and even frequency response that has made Eris studio and media reference monitors popular around the world. Their compact and powerful design makes them an ideal solution for any small space. Want extra-deep low end? Pair compact Eris E4.5 BTs with PreSonus' powerful Temblor T8 active subwoofer for a truly full-range sound system that fits almost anywhere.

Presonus Eris E44 Active MTM Nearfield Monitor (single)
Cat: 590926 Rel: 23 Dec 15

Monitor with dual 4.5" custom-woven Kevlar LF/midrange drivers for dynamic, size-defying bass output
Notes: This monitor comes with free Studio One Prime and Studio Magic plug-ins.

The Eris E44 and E66 deliver an expanded and highly accurate frequency response and the widest stereo field available in their class. Their nested Midwoofer-Tweeter-Midwoofer (MTM, also known as "D'Appolito") configuration offers improved off-axis response and spatial resolution. The result is a more consistent listening experience, smoother frequency response, and an ultra-wide, detailed stereo soundstage.

Conventional 2-way designs can cause significant early reflections from their surrounding environment. The E44 and E66 overcome this by positioning a 1.25", silk dome high-frequency driver between two 4.5" (E44) or 6.5" (E66) midrange drivers. The two smaller woofers work in parallel to partially contain the dispersion of the tweeter, minimizing phase displacement. The result is incredibly detailed stereo imaging.

Both the E44 and the E66 feature two midrange drivers that cover the same frequency range. The drivers are placed so that their acoustic centers are less than one wavelength apart for any of the frequencies they reproduce; as a result, the combined signal of both drivers propagates forward like a single waveform. This makes the comparatively small midrange drivers in the E44 and E66 behave like a single, larger driver. This mutual coupling provides a highly dynamic output in a compact footprint.

Sound waves radiating from the two components in a conventional speaker design can interfere with one another, creating peaks at some frequencies and dips at others, and these will vary depending on where the listener is relative to the speaker. In an MTM configuration, component interference, and the sonic inconsistencies that go with it, are minimized. This affords listeners an ultra-wide sweet spot and a more consistent listening experience on- and off-axis.

The E44 and E66 utilize custom-woven Kevlar low-frequency drivers. This provides a more constant dispersion pattern throughout the frequency range, resulting in less time-smeared audio and cleaner overall sound. The weave and nature of the dual Kevlar woofers also helps break up reflected energy, so fewer delayed reflections reach the listener's ear. In conjunction with the MTM configuration, this works to create a transparent, cohesive sound.

Many MTM configurations must be arrayed vertically, rather than horizontally, because vertical placement provides a clear, interference-free midrange and treble reproduction to either side, expanding the sweet spot. By bringing the midrange drivers closer together and raising the high-frequency driver, the E44 and E66 are able to perform optimally in both orientations. So, like all Eris speakers, the E44 and E66 let you position your speaker the way that works best for you.

Today's music producers deal with a wide variety of musical genres and often work in more than one location. That's why Eris-series studio monitors offer extensive acoustic tuning controls. The three-position Acoustic Space switch helps to compensate for the boundary bass boost that can occur when a monitor is placed in a corner or near a wall. High and Mid controls help to further mitigate room anomalies. A Low Cutoff filter makes it easy to integrate a Temblor subwoofer into your monitor setup.

With three different types of audio inputs, it's easy to feed audio to your Eris monitors from a mixer, an interface, a media player, or almost any other line-level source. The Eris E44 and E66 provide balanced XLR, balanced 1/4" TRS, and unbalanced RCA line-level inputs. With this selection, you'll have no problem hooking your Eris speakers up with virtually any line-level source.

Like all PreSonus studio monitors, the Eris E44 and E66 offer consistent, accurate listening. The ultra-wide stereo image afforded by their MTM design, makes them an ideal solution for any one who requires best-in-class spatial resolution. Like the rest of the Eris studio monitors, the E44 and E66 set a new standard for affordable studio monitors.

Presonus Eris E5 Studio Monitor (single)
Cat: 480960 Rel: 10 Jul 13

Front ported studio monitor with 5.25" driver and 1" tweeter
Notes: Incredible value for money from one of the baby options in Presonus's excellent Eris monitor range. Classic two-way design offering sound bigger than you might expect from a 5.25-inch woofer.

This monitor comes with free Studio One Prime and Studio Magic plug-ins.

Supplier's notes:
The Eris E5 2 way active 5.25" studio monitor from PreSonus delivers an accurate response with tight bass and a clear upper end. The Kevlar low frequency transducers, low-mass silk-dome tweeters and responsive Class AB amplification combine with acoustic-adjustment controls to create a versatile and adaptable listening system.

The E5 begins with a front-ported enclosure made of vinyl-laminated MDF. It features a 5.25" Kevlar low-frequency driver mated with a 45W, Class AB amplifier. For the highs, the Eris employs a 1" silk-dome tweeter powered by a 35W, Class AB amplifier. The E5 outputs a clean 102 dB peak SPL. Its frequency response is rated at 64Hz to 22kHz.

The Eris E5 provides a balanced XLR, a balanced 14" TRS, and an unbalanced RCA line-level input. Once you're plugged in, set the input gain and you're ready to go.

The Eris provides 3-EQ controls in its acoustic tuning section: high, mid, and low cutoff. These controls enable you to fine-tune the monitors to your space. The low control also is useful when using the E5 with a subwoofer.

The High control is a shelving filter that boosts or cuts all frequencies above 4.5kHz by as much as 6dB. The mid control is a mid-frequency peak filter that boosts or cuts frequencies centered at 1kHz and extending about one octave above and below that frequency. The low cutoff control rolls off frequencies below either 80 or 100Hz at a slope of 12dB/octave. This control is especially useful if you also have a connected subwoofer.

A 3-position acoustic space switch controls a second-order, low shelving filter that cuts frequencies below 800Hz by either 2 or 4dB to compensate for the boundary bass boost that occurs in close proximity to walls or corners.

The RF shielding protects against radio frequencies that could be introduced to the signal and become audible. The Eris monitors also provide overheat protection, current-output limiting and subsonic protection. The Soft startup amplifiers prevent damaging pops from sounding through the speakers when you power them up.

Presonus Eris E5 XT 2-Way 5.25" Active Studio Monitor (single)
Cat: 736452 Rel: 21 Aug 19

Single 2-way active studio monitor with wave guide
Notes: This monitor comes with free Studio One Prime and Studio Magic plug-ins.

With their smooth, accurate frequency response; powerful amplification with tons of headroom; and acoustic tuning functions that ensure you always get the best sound... it's no wonder that the original Eris-series studio monitors have been a runaway hit since their introduction. The Eris E5 XT is a substantial update to a lauded classic. Deeper lows and a wider, more controlled sweet spot (thanks to its new EBM wave guide design) mean that our best-selling studio monitors just got even better.

Studio speakers with a wide sweet spot:

We outfitted the Eris XT studio monitors with a new EBM (Elliptical Boundary Modelled) wave guide designed by none other than Hugh Sarvis of WorxAudio, the mind behind our award-winning CDL loudspeakers and lauded R-Series monitors. The result? A superior high-frequency response and wider 100-degree horizontal dispersion to create a broader sweet spot. It's ideal for group listening and collaboration - while narrow vertical dispersion reduces reflections from your desk. Silk-dome tweeters ensure snappy, accurate transient reproduction.

Lows that go lower:

The familiar woven composite low-frequency driver still offers Eris' signature tight, clear bass; plenty of punch and no flub. Eris E5 XT studio monitors sport a ported enclosure that is larger than that of their predecessors, allowing them to reach down to an astonishing 48 Hz. That's 10 Hz below previous models - with no subwoofer required!

Set up your studio monitors for your room:

We know modern recording studios can be anywhere from a spare bedroom to a multi-million dollar facility; that's why every studio monitor we make is equipped with controls that ensure the flattest response in your mix environment. Acoustic tuning controls allow you to configure the Eris E5 XT perfectly for your room - you get Low-cut, Mid, and High controls, as well as 3-way acoustic space tuning that allows you to easily compensate for the sonic consequences of speaker placement against a wall or in a corner.

Studio monitor connections:

It's easy to feed audio to your Eris E5 XT studio monitors from an audio interface, mixer, monitor controller, or almost any other line-level source. Eris E5 XT monitors provide balanced XLR, balanced 1/4" TRS, and unbalanced RCA line-level inputs. You'll have no problem hooking your Eris speakers up to virtually anything.

Accuracy defined:

Suitable for both home recording studios and professional mix engineering, the Eris XT studio monitors combine sterling audio quality with the flexible tuning and connectivity you've come to expect from PreSonus. It's Eris, remastered.

With their smooth, accurate frequency response; powerful amplification with tons of headroom; and acoustic tuning functions that ensure you always get the best sound... it's no wonder that the original Eris-series studio monitors have been a runaway hit since their introduction. The Eris E8 XT is a substantial update to a lauded classic. Deeper lows and a wider, more controlled sweet spot (thanks to its new EBM wave guide design) mean that our best-selling studio monitors just got even better.

Studio speaker with a wide sweet spot:

Eris E8 XT studio monitors sport a ported enclosure that is larger than that of their predecessors, allowing them to reach down to an astonishing 35 Hz.

Acoustic tuning controls allow you to configure the Eris E8 XT perfectly for your room - you get Low-cut, Mid, and High controls, as well as 3-way acoustic space tuning that allows you to easily compensate for the sonic consequences of speaker placement against a wall or in a corner.

Studio monitor connections:

It's easy to feed audio to your Eris E8 XT studio monitors from an audio interface, mixer, monitor controller, or almost any other line-level source. Eris E8 XT monitors provide balanced XLR, balanced 1/4" TRS, and unbalanced RCA line-level inputs.

Presonus R65 AMT Studio Monitor (single)
Cat: 590929 Rel: 18 Feb 16

2 way active studio monitor with 6.5" woven kevlar driver and a choice of XLR, 1/4" jack & RCA inputs
Notes: This monitor comes with free Studio One Prime and Studio Magic plug-ins.

Superior transient response:
In order to dampen resonance peaks at higher frequencies, conventional dome tweeters are injected with fluid to raise their mass, sacrificing transient response time. By contrast, the custom-designed AMT tweeter in the R65 uses an incredibly thin, folded Kapton membrane (< 0.01 mm) with an inlayed aluminum circuit functioning as the voice coil, allowing the tweeter to move at the same instant as the electric current. The resulting reactive response time provides marked clarity and superior transient reproduction.

Wide, consistent stereo image:
An unfolded AMT tweeter diaphragm provides 8 to 13 times the projection area of a traditional 1-inch dome tweeter, enabling R65 monitors to provide a much wider stereo soundstage than traditional designs. At the same time, the R65 provides a very limited vertical dispersion, which helps to reduce reflections from the ceiling and desktop that can cause phase coherence issues. Because it's less subject to room-anomaly interference, the R65 reacts predictably and sounds consistent from room to room.

Transparent sound:
The R65 utilizes a 6.5-inch, custom-coated, woven Kevlar low-frequency driver. This rigid cone maintains a more consistent dispersion pattern across its frequency rtesponse range. Biamped and driven by a 150W Class D amplifierimaking the R series some of the most powerful monitors in their categoryithese monitors deliver an open, clear, and less fatiguing listening experience.

Have it your way:
You can customize the R65 in several ways. It's available with black or blue faceplates to fit your studio decor. With balanced XLR, balanced 1/4" TRS, and unbalanced RCA line-level inputs, it's easy to feed audio to your R65 monitors from a mixer, an interface, a media player, or almost any other line-level source. And R series monitors offer user-adjustable contour features for optimizing the monitors for your mixing space. This enables full integration into any studio environment.

Accuracy defined:
The R65's AMT monitor design provides lifelike sonic reproduction that will allow you to hear the room in your recordings. Its transparent sound and responsive transient reproduction makes it an ideal solution for anyone who is mixing high-resolution audio. Hear the R65 at your favorite PreSonus dealer.

Presonus R65 V2 Studio Monitor (single)
Cat: 845640 Rel: 11 Oct 21

Articulate, versatile studio monitor with acoustic tuning controls and AMT tweeter for wide soundstage and astonishing transient response.
Notes: Featuring acoustic tuning controls, a 6.8-inch Air Motion Transformer (ATM) tweeter and 6.5-inch custom-coated, woven composite LF drivers, PreSonus R65 V2 active studio monitors deliver a transparent and highly articulate sound with a wide sweet spot, making them a great choice for broadcast, post production, and commercial and home recording studios, particularly those working with high-resolution audio.

Custom-made, 6.8-inch Air Motion Transformer (AMT) tweeter that provides excellent transient response and high-frequency reproduction; Rigid, custom coated, woven composite 6.5-inch low-frequency driver produces a more dynamic output than conventional designs; wide horizontal dispersion and narrow vertical dispersion for wide sweet spot with minimized problematic reflections; four acoustic tuning controls tailor the R65 V2 to any mix environment; 140W of biamped Class A/B power; diverse connectivity options include balanced XLR, 14-inch TRS, and unbalanced RCA.

Clarity is king-and with the R65 V2s, you'll hear every single detail of your music-and no problematic trouble spots will escape your ear again! If you're mixing or mastering high-resolution audio, the R65 V2 will ensure that you hear every nuance, thanks to its custom 6.8-inch Air Motion Transformer (AMT) tweeter that responds to the subtlest waveforms and the highest frequencies. You'll hear all of the air and space that has become synonymous with high-resolution audiophile sessions. The AMT design also allows the R65 V2 to handle 8 to 13 times the projection area of more traditional tweeter designs-while its unique housing constrains this projection area strictly to the horizontal axis. The result is a very wide sweet spot with focused vertical dispersion-minimizing reflections from your desk, floor, or ceiling.

The 6.5-inch, custom coated, woven composite LF driver produces a more dynamic output than conventional designs, thanks to the rigid cone's ability to maintain a more constant dispersion pattern across its frequency response range, resulting in transparent sound with reduced reflections. Biamped with 140W RMS of Class A/B power-75 W driving the woofer and 45W driving the tweeter-the R65 V2 ranks among the most powerful monitor speakers in its category.

A set of four acoustic tuning controls allow you to tailor the 65 V2's frequency response to compensate for the anomalies of nearly any mix environment-so you can expect predictable, consistent performance in the event you use them in more than one place.
