Jump Into The Light
Cat: GLITS 055. Rel: 15 Jun 20
  1. Jump Into The Light (7" mix) (3:35)
  2. Falling Deep In Love (Joey Negro 7" Disco Blend) (4:06)
Review: For the last two years, legendary London crew Horse Meat Disco has been teasing the release of its long-awaited debut album via a series of scintillating singles featuring guest vocals from the likes of Amy Douglas and, even more impressively, Kathy Sledge. Here they offer up their second collaboration with the legendary disco diva. "Jump Into The Light" is little less than a tribute to the Chic sound featured on the greatest Sister Sledge records, with Kathy Sledge delivering a typical fine lead vocal over Bernard Edwards style bass, Nile Rodgers-esque guitars and glittering orchestration. Over on side B there's a chance to enjoy Joey Negro's cut-down "Disco Blend" of previous single "Falling Deep In Love", which adds a little house flavour whilst retaining the crew's disco instrumentation.

I Want You For Myself (reissue)
Cat: KON 001RE. Rel: 18 Jun 20
  1. I Want You For Myself (6:33)
  2. I Want You For Myself (KON extended remix) (10:40)
Review: Acclaimed crate-digger turned disco re-editor KON has decided to launch his own reissue imprint, Kontemporary. The idea is simple: to accompany re-mastered original tracks with fresh rubs from the man himself. 12" number one offers another opportunity to enjoy George Duke's soulful, sun-kissed, disco-era jazz-funk bomb "I Want You For Myself". On the A-side you'll find Duke's own impeccable 12" version, with KON's re-edit gracing the B. Having access to the original multi-track tapes has allowed the New York-based producer to not only include an atmospheric, extended intro (a tactic regularly used by fellow rework merchants The Revenge and Joey Negro), but also give more prominence to Duke's superb piano solos.

Second Chance (remixes)
Cat: GLITS 052R. Rel: 22 Jun 20
  1. Second Chance (club mix) (7:13)
  2. Second Chance (Moplen extended remix) (6:57)
  3. Second Chance (The Shapeshifters reprise) (8:01)
  4. Second Chance (acappella) (5:26)
Review: Given that he was making disco-fired house as far back as the early noughties, Simon Marlin AKA The Shapeshifters is a perfect fit for Defected's disco-focussed Glitterbox sub-label. These days Marlin's productions are closer to "real" disco than funky house, as last year's Salsoul influenced "Life Is A Dancefloor" with singer Kimberly Davis proved. "Second Chance" explores similar musical pastures, with the EP opening club mix layering Tony Montana-esque orchestration and Loleatta-like vocals atop a bouncy beat. Moplen delivers a classic disco revision mixed in a Tom Moulton style, where there's more clarity to each showcased piece of instrumentation, while the Shapeshifters provide a dub mix style "Reprise" that rises and falls in all the right places. A handy, delay-laden acapella version completes a very strong EP.

Different Strokes Vol 2
DR PACKER/VARIOUS
Cat: DGLIB 24LP. Rel: 19 Jun 20

  2. Aeroplane - "Love On Hold" (feat Tawatha Agee - Dr Packer extended remix) (6:41)

  7. Hardsoul - "Back Together" (feat Ron Carroll - Dr Packer extended remix) (7:01)
  8. Reel People - "You Used To Hold Me So Tight" (feat Angela Johnson - Dr Packer remix) (7:04)
Review: Aussie remix king Dr Packer is now Defected offshoot Glitterbox's go-to man when it comes to re-shaping and revising classic cuts. There's a reason for that of course, namely that he understands dancefloor dynamics and is an expert at adding just the right of easy-to-mix house flavour to records old and new. "Different Strokes Volume 2" gathers together 12 previously unreleased reworks from the Perth-based producer. There are some terrific, disco-tinged revisions on show, with our highlights including his interpretations of Jean Jacques Smoothie's early noughties gem "2People", Hardsoul and Ron Carroll's soulful house anthem "Back Together", Reel People's new-boogie cover of Thelma Houston gem "You Used To Hold Me So Tight" and the 21st century disco anthem that is Horse Meat Disco's"Let's Go Dancing".

Please Don't Make It Funky (limited 7" to 300 copies)
Cat: PEPITE 07. Rel: 22 Jun 20
  1. Please Don't Make It Funky (4:18)
  2. Please Don't Make It Funky (The Patchouli Brothers Re edit) (5:05)
Review: "Please Don't Make It Funky" is one of those delicious curiosities that dusty-fingered crate diggers unearth every now and then. Recorded and released in limited qualities in 1980, it was apparently an attempt by Frank Pisani, then a veteran American singer who had last tasted success in the rock and roll era, to capture the disco/jazz-funk zeitgeist. While it was a commercial flop, the track is undeniably attractive and fun, with squelchy synth sounds, ear-catching horns, fluid piano solos and Pisani's blue-eyed-soul vocals rising above a tidy groove. This surprise - but most welcome - reissue backs Pisani's cheery original with a fresh re-edit by the Patchouli Brothers. This includes some filter trickery and a DJ-friendly arrangement, but otherwise sticks close to the original mix.

Disco Selections Volume 1
  1. Ethyene - "Let Love" (5:42)
  2. Carlo - "The Swindler" (6:32)
  3. Hotmood - "Magical Flight" (5:57)
  4. Rees - "The Way You Move" (6:04)
Review: We may not be able to gather to dance outdoors under a blazing sun or a blanket of stars, but there's no harm in a little musical daydreaming. That's what the latest multi-artist Ravenelli Disco Club release is all about: summery escapism that comes with a big dollop of rush-inducing disco release. Ethyene sets the tone with the colourful boogie-house fusion of "Let Love" - all twinkling synth motifs, echoing percussion hits, thickset grooves and hazy vocal samples - before Carlo raises the temperature via some jazzy deep house heaviness in the vein of Derrick Carter's "boompty" era. Over on side B, Hotmood's "Magical Flight" is a surging, string-drenched disco-house roller, while Rees' "The Way You Mood" is a tooled-up take on what sounds like a classic Philadelphia International cut.

This time fellow Frenchman MOAR takes the lead with two untitled hip-hop edits of the funkiest order. "B" takes us for a run up Sugarhill on a groove made of salubrious sub bass, dubby horns and vocal clips while "BB" takes Nas into pure electro boogie territory with incredible results. Disco Rap (hand-stamped 7") (1 per customer)
Cat: 45L D. Rel: 28 May 20
  1. D (3:06)
  2. DD (5:01)
Review: Fresh from the release of his tribute to hip-hop culture's dancefloor roots, the essential "Disco Rap" single, DJ Moar returns to familiar territory with a guest-packed album of boom-bap beats, blink-and-you-miss-them skits, and deliciously deep rap songs. Moar's backing tracks ripple with warm and woozy instrumental flourishes and jazzy samples, while the accompanying raps, from MCs including Napoleon Da Legend, Dirt Platoon, Sadat X and LS Brigandes, are on-point and entertaining. Such is the all-round quality, in fact, that it sounds like a long-lost set from hip-hop's golden age.

  3. Arabica Selection (6:46)
  4. West Africa (6:32)
Review: A new week, a new edits label, this time from BPlan & Fab_o. It kicks off in fantastic fashion with four edits that will boost your spot no end. There is loose and jumbled afro-disco on "Sweet Brasil" and then stripped back disco-house loops a la early DJ Sneak on "Aroma Club". The flip side again leans on afro for its sunny vibes with "Arabica Selection" and it might be that the best is saved until last. "West Africa" is built on funky bass riffs, with flailing percussion, chunky drums and vocal chants that will lock in any crowd.

  13. Ipanema Brothers - "Rio De Janeiro" (Woody Bianchi edit) (6:06)
  14. The Variations - "I Know Why You're Here" (3:26)
Review: Although he's recorded and released plenty of music in the last three decades, Italian DJ Woody Bianchi is better-known amongst the crate digging community for the quality, size and depth of his record collection. As a fellow dusty-fingered disco collector, Joey Negro is well aware of Bianchi's digging pedigree - hence offering him the chance to compile the latest edition in the essential "Under The Influence" series. It's naturally a treat from start to finish, offering a highlight-filled journey through disco, disco-funk, boogie and jazz-funk that will be eye-opening to all but the most dedicated diggers. Our picks include Bianchi's own edit of Ipaema Brothers' "Rio De Janeiro", the thrillingly up-tempo madness of Formula One's "Can You Feel It" and the boogie brilliance of Original Just Us's "You're My Latest Inspiration".

Review: Here's a record perfectly suited to the Emotional Rescue sphere. International Noise Orchestra was born out of a collaboration between Berliner Ulrich Homberg and Algerian drummer Jol Allouche, first embarked on in the 1980s when they sought to combine 'new technology with old'. The results are wonderfully vibrant, evocative of the era but also packed with open-ended experimentation that sounds fresh more than 30 years later. There's a push and pull between the collaborating parties, but the frisson between cultures and methods is where this record gets its unique groove from, all delivered with a slick 80s cool it's hard to resist.

  3. Odoru (5:41)
  4. Momoshima (6:13)
Review: Late last year, French imprint Chuwanag launched via a fine compilation exploring the early '80s Britfunk sound (think jazz-funk and electrofunk) in impressive detail. You'll find numerous aural nods to that style on this follow-up, a fine debut single from producer Koji Ono. Check, for example, the sparkling synthesizers, hustling guitars and house-tempo jazz-funk grooves of "So High", the wiggly Clavinet lines, whistling melodies and rubbery bass of "Inner Rhythms" and the luscious, misty-eyed warmth of ear-pleasing mid-tempo instrumental jam "Momoshima". All are exquisite examples of revivalist cuts that boast more than enough freshness and impeccable instrumentation to bear comparison to the records that inspired them.

Cat: CUTMR 005. Rel: 22 Jun 20
  1. Latin Jazz Dance (Voodoo edit) (5:06)
  2. Electric Counterpoint (Dream edit) (4:30)
Review: Over the last few years, Gigi Testa has become renowned for delivering sun-kissed tracks and re-edits that variously draw influence from deep house, Afro-cosmic, Balearica, and jazz-funk. This edit-focused two-tracker continues on a similar theme. "Latin Jazz-Dance (Voodoo Edit)" is simply superb - an effervescent, rush-inducing re-model of a Latin jazz-funk number rich in layered percussion, breezy flute solos, bouncy piano riffs and suitably ambidextrous fretless bass. In contrast, "Electric Counterpoint (Dream Edit)" is a totally beat-free affair. It sees him go to work on the Steve Reich/Pat Metheny classic of the same name, adding dubbed-out effects and subtle vocal overdubs here and there. Like the original version, it's blissful, awe-inspiring stuff.

  2. Do What You Gotta Do (edit) (4:20)
Review: With no less than nine releases on the label to their name already, Black Cash & Theo AKA Thelonious Beats are Galaxy Sound Co's most experienced editors. Here they deliver another fantastic "45" packed with righteous grooves and life-affirming jazz moves. It's the latter that comes to the fore on side A's "Flute Thing", a sweet and seductive drift through picturesque jazz territory with some additional loose-limbed drum solos edited in halfway through. "Do What You Gotta Do" on the other hand is a simmering, string-laden soul treat rich in killer instrumentation, sumptuous orchestration, chunky grooves and hazy vocals. It's a fine edit of a superb cut and easily the record's standout cut.

Review: There are few more celebrated edit kings than Late Nite Tuff. Now he is back once again with the goodness, this time tackling killer racks by First Choice and Double Exposure. All of the source material here is considered to be stone cold classic, so he's brave if nothing else. But of course, he also has the skills to make these edits worth your while - he extends the breaks, lets the grooves roll on and ensures the vocals remain in place to really get hearts sweeping and hands in the air. The unabashed funk, soul and disco joy of his take on Double Exposure's "Everyman" might be the standout here.

I Want To Thank You (remix) (reissue)
Cat: KON 004. Rel: 27 Apr 20
  1. I Want To Thank You (KON Shine Your Light remix) (7:54)
  2. I Want To Thank You (KON dub) (7:49)
Review: Having previously breathed new life into classic cuts from L.T.D, George Duke and Sylvester, Kon has now turned his attention to another all-time favourite: Alicia Myers' 1981 stunner "I Want To Thank You", a disco-era gospel-soul favourite that remains one of the era's most timeless club records. Working from the multi-track tapes, Kon teases out Myers' killer vocal - drenched in just the right amount of reverb and delay - atop a slightly stripped-back groove before giving it the full kitchen sink treatment. Just as good is the flipside Dub, which flits between beat-free sections and the track's killer groove in the manner of disco dubs from the early 1980s. The song itself may not have needed tampering with, but Kon's versions are genuinely superb.

  3. Hotmood - "Chico Shake" (6:08)
  4. Hotmood - "El-Artista" (7:04)
Review: Editorial's 28th vinyl outing is a split affair, with label mainstays Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee handling the A side and Hotmood holding court on the B. Interestingly, the standout of Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee's side is a wonderfully groovy, synth-sporting deep house re-make of "Shades of Blue" by Sheffield-based Leicester Lad Scott Moncrieff AKA Thatmanmonkz, though the head-nodding, toe-tapping chunk of jazz-funk/instrumental soul that follows it, "Cantina", is also rather good. As for Hotmood, they provide some instant party-starting vibes via the low-slung disco-funk-meets-house loop jam "Chico Shake", before exploring breezier dancefloor pastures via the flute-sporting goodness of "El Arista". In a word: solid.

Review: Should you be hankering after some suitably positive music right now - and let's face it, most of us are - then we'd recommend checking out this fine four-tracker from French jazz-funk combo Aldorande. There are two original cuts to choose from: the languid, laid-back and undeniably sunny breeziness of "Summer Body" - all female scat vocals, bustling jazz-funk bass, sweet pianos, two-step beats and boogie synths - and the bolder, more electronic fizz of "Breakfast In Space", which reminded us a little of vintage weather report. Charles Maurice delivers instrumental Dub versions of both, naturally beefing up the basslines and adding a little extra percussive pressure.

Review: Obscure & Obsolete have pulled together a collection of dazzling disco tunes from various vital artists. The a-side features two visions of big hearted and triumphant tunes from British-Nigerian singer, actress and artist Patti Boulaye. Full of celebratory horns and big vocals, it's a real gem. Juan Torres's "El Arbusto (In The Bush)" is a more strident and cosmic affair with plenty of retro-future flourishes and the lost dub of Kikrokos's "Jungle DJ" sinks into a funk-licked groove with skyward pads taking your mind into the cosmos. Methusalem's mid tempo, hip swinging "Robotism" closes out in deep cut fashion.

  1. Your Brain On Music (7:19)
  2. Be Bizarre (5:08)
  3. Call Me (5:40)
Review: More from the mysterious Ron's Reworks series, which seems to specialise in good old-fashioned re-edits of tracks played by the late, great Ron Hardy (or at least that's how it appears to us - whoever is behind the project is keeping quiet). The real killer here is A-side "Your Brain On Music", a slightly beefed-up and tooled up version of an Italo-disco-era chugger rich in driving bass, spacey synthesizer lines, proto-acid sounds and almost symphonic electronic chords. Elsewhere "Be Bizarre" is a tight, mostly instrumental revision of an electrofunk era big studio rock number - all squelchy synth bass, glistening guitar riffs and stuttering drum machine beats - while "Call Me" is a fine scalpel edit of a sparkling boogie jam.

Review: In 1976, French band Edition Speciale released their debut album, "Allee Des Tilleuls". While much of the album saw them explore progressive rock and jazz-rock territory, it did contain one suitably groovy and life-affirming trip into jazz-funk territory, surprise LP standout "Mr Business". Here that cut gets a single release for the very first time courtesy of the dusty-fingered diggers at Pepite. You'll find the little-known band's languid, Clavinet and synthesizer-heavy original version on side A, with Aroop Roy's tidy contemporary rework on the B. Aroop sticks a rocket up the track's bottom end, underpinning the original song with peak-time-ready drums while wisely emphasizing his own killer bassline and catchy vocals.

In Parcels defence, the results are impressive, in part because their chosen location, legendary Berlin institution Hansa Studios, boasts the kind of analogue recording and mixing equipment that neatly fits their warm, mixed-up trademark sound (think West Coast rock, blue-eyed soul, funk-ruck fusion). Many of the songs segue into each other as they would during a live performance, with new interludes and previously unheard songs adding a frisson of disco-fired dancefloor goodness to proceedings. It might not be a pure live album, but it's a hugely enjoyable listen.

I Love You More (limited 12")
Cat: MXMRK 2028. Rel: 12 Mar 20
  1. I Love You More (New vocal edit) (9:03)
  2. I Love You More (instrumental edit) (7:50)
Review: Scalpel-wielding re-edit legend Danny Krivit has reworked one of his all-time favourites, Rene and Angela's 1981 boogie classic "I Love You More". He has previously reworked the track, but the edits here are brand new. On the A-side you'll find his fresh vocal extension and rearrangement, which naturally rolls out the killer groove - all liquid synth-bass, cascading lead lines, clipped guitars and ear-catching piano motifs - before unleashing the original's deliciously glassy-eyed and soulful vocal. Over on side B he's revisited his original instrumental re-edit, further emphasizing the cut glass strings, spacey synth solos and infectious groove. It's as loved-up as they come and arguably even better than his vocal take.

Review: Escape From New York's 1984 cut "Fire In My Heart" has long been considered something of a Balearic classic. Original copies of the Rollerball Records release 12" are hard to come by, though, so this reissue is more than welcome. The original version - all slo-mo electro drums, rubbery dub bass, exotic melodies and intoxicating vocals - is joined by the now infamous Instrumental Dub version, which has been a staple in Balearic DJs' sets for more than 30 years. If that wasn't enough, there's also a chance to savour to woozy, dub-influenced synth-pop of original bonus cut "Won't Be Your Fool".

  1. Poland Waffle (6:15)
  2. Croatia White (6:10)
Review: Since launching back in 2015, the Dewaele brothers' Waffles series has been responsible for some of the best re-edits around. The series' genius lies not in the floor-friendly nature of the showcased reworks - that goes without saying - but in the unashamedly weird and wonderful source material the Belgian siblings choose to play around with. Few will know the original version of "Poland Waffle", a sludgy and sleazy mutant disco workout full of heavy, dub disco style bass, hypnotic drums, alien electronics and a half-sung, half-whispered vocal refrain ("Red light... blue light"). As for "Croatia White", you'll struggle to find a more muscular and mind-altering chunk of post-Italo European disco. In other words, this serving of Waffles is every bit as tasty as its predecessors.

Review: Nina Walsh was Andrew Weatherall's long time studio partner. Together they worked as the Woodleigh Research Facility and one of their last projects was the tracks that make up the first release on this new label by Moton Records Inc's Dave Jarvis and Darren House. Weatherall wrote the four tacks with assistance from Walsh and of course they are chugging, sparkling, dark disco groovers for the slow motion lovers and astral dreamers out there. "The Moton 5" sets a darkened mood while "Slap & Slide" is all about the trippy lead riff and cosmic synth sounds, "March Violets" is then riddled with twitches, flashes and speaks of brightness before "The Moton 5.2" sinks into a shuffling dub disco swagger.

Review: Having previously offered up two vinyl compilations focusing on his book Life & Death on the New York Dancefloor 1980-83, dance music documentarian Tim Lawrence has decided to travel back in time to the decade covered in his previous book, Love Will Save The Day. This second part (of two) gathers together some of the greatest American dance music of the 1970s, deftly showcasing what some might call the disco continuum. It covers a lot of ground, moving from the sparkling orchestrated soul of Willie Hutch and the intergalactic jazz-funk of Charles Earland, to the punk-funk hedonism of Miroslave Vituous and the boogie-era brilliance of Edgar Winter, via a string of surging underground disco treats.

Review: To mark their 50th release, Brooklyn scalpel fiends Razor-N-Tape has put together a triple-pack of tried-and-tested reworks from some of the scene's heaviest hitters. It's as strong as you'd expect, with highlights including the heavyweight, delay-laden disco-funk brilliance of Dimitri From Brooklyn's "Hooked On This Feeling" (a dub disco revision of an old Frank Hooker jam by Dimitri From Paris), the Clavinet-driven, piano-laden peak-time hustle of Joey Negro's "Let's Get Ornery", the Clarinet and trumpet-sporting hedonism of Jacques Renault's emotive and heart-tugging "Said I Would" and the screaming, hands-aloft rush of Superprince's "Dependable". Fittingly, label co-fouder JKriv delivers one of the standouts, a rolling revision of an Italo-style, arpeggio-driven delight titled "Lovin' Lasers".

Review: First Choice's era-defining disco funk anthem "Love Thang" gets dusted off by Salsoul. Timeless struts, silky bass flurries, huge orchestration and gutsy vocals; this still sounds spotless today. Complete with an acapella and instrumental, the real boon here is Kon's edit. If anyone is going to edit such a classic appropriately it's this guy; with a more mix-friendly, break and vocal focused intro, dynamic stripdowns and build ups and a big drum-focused pay-off, Kon reminds us how artful editing can be in the right hands... Review: Previously spotted on Emotional [Especial] with the fantastic Love Is Enough 12", Plus Instruments get the remix treatment in a classic '80s style with the Dub Is Enough single. The producers tasked with delivering versions vary wildly, but they make for a strong combination. Jamie Paton's "Cloudy Dub-Out" is masterful, simmering the elements down to a sensual bassline and delicate ripples on top, while Luke Solomon brings his bumpy, off-kilter house style to the table. Khidja has a more dramatic, synth laden approach and Alphonse creates a dusty, funky roller out of that killer bassline groove.

Review: On their debut album, 2016's the Tony Allen Experiments, Naples twosome Nu Guinea re-invented tracks by the legendary Afro-beat drummer as synth-heavy chunks of deep jazz-funk and nu-Balearica. For this follow-up - their first full length entirely made up of their own compositions - the duo serves up a set of jazz-funk, disco and boogie cuts rich in both their trademark colourful analogue synthesizer sounds and live instrumentation. It's a formula that guarantees a string of memorable highlights, from the sun-kissed peak-time brilliance of "Disco Sole" and rubbery, funk-fuelled "Je Vulesse" (a killer vocal number), to the wobbly downtempo trip of "A Voce E Napule" and Mizell Brothers fizz of closer "Parev Ajare", the album's most synthesizer-heavy cut.

Smoothing out the boogie tones of the original and turning it into a fluttering disco-funk delight, it's an incredibly tasteful, velvety smooth version that until now has been out of reach of all but a very select few spinners. Now Mr. Kent has done the right thing and pressed up this heater for all to savour. Don't sleep as these will surely not be around for long.

Review: DJ friendly dancefloor cuts once again from the Gator Boots camp, with a two track EP of razor sharp heaters by the mysterious Ancient Deep, following up some great ones by G. Markus, Blue Mondays and Soul Clap. There is certainly a familiar vibe on A side cut "Underneath The Lights", a sultry late night vocal number with sleazy guitar licks, creamy Rhodes and a string section so warm it'll get the emotions running wild. On the flip, things go deeper into the night with its unmistakable hook from a right classic. It's called "Can't Stop The Jump" and is as slo-mo and lo-slung as you like it - perfect for the afterhours if we do say so ourselves!

Review: REPRESS ALERT!: Afrodesia may come on like another dusted down gem from those dedicated detectives at Best, but it is in fact a modern construction from the talented studio trysts of Mystic Jungle and Whodamanny from the Periodica camp. These Italian producers have more than proved their knack for crafting sublime, honey-smooth jams with a nod to the golden studio era of the 70s and 80s, and they're more than up to the task on this killer 12" of heavy funking jams with a dose of boogie and a nod to Ivory Coast disco. It's quite simply perfection, rendered with love and attention to detail, but utterly natural in its feel and flavour.

  4. Rafael Cameron - "Boogie's Gonna Get Ya" (The Reflex Revision) (7:53)
Review: London-based "multi-track edit" specialist the Reflex is the latest producer to have his way with gems from Salsoul's epic back catalogue. All four rubs are up to his usual high standard - he begins by dubbing out and rearranging "Mama Don't Papa Won't", a lesser-known Loleatta Holloway cut from the halcyon days of disco, before turning piano-and-percussion-heavy Candido favourite "Dancin' and Prancin'" into a sweaty, all-action extended workout. On the second record he heads towards boogie territory, giving Skyy's "Let's Celebrate" a sweet, synth-and-delay-laden makeover before making great use of the urgent, bass-heavy groove underpinning Rafael Cameron's brilliant "Boogie's Gonna Get Ya". Recommended.

Review: ** Reissue of the Psychemagik Wang Chung classic ** If you've been following the rise of Cosmic Forest dwellers Psychemagik for more than a minute, you'll be aware of their extremely chunky revision of Wang Chung's 1984 jam "Dancehall Days" which has been teasing new arrivals at their Soundcloud page for more than a year now. It finally gets a vinyl release here, and an official one to boot as Wang Chung vocalist Jack Hues was so impressed with their illicit take he sent them the stems for the official remix you see here. It's very much in line with their original edit but comes replete with that extra beef and on a neat white twelve inch. Another archival killer from the duo in "Beauty And The Bass" lines the flip too.

It's a thoroughly mature and escapist balearic sound with plenty of lush acoustic guitars, underlapping drums and deft percussion. Review: As debuts go, the first outing from Ben Westbeech and KON as The Vision is mighty impressive. With the assistance of UK soul star Andreya Triana, they've conjured up a thrilling debut cut that sits somewhere between gospel, disco and sultry soulful house. The superbly warm and groovy original version - all bold piano riffs, jazzy horn solos, crunchy guitars, rolling drums and sublime lead vocals - is undoubtedly the standout, though the accompanying remixes are also rather good. Mousse T's boogie-flavoured house remix is a great alternative house mix with a deeper and more obviously electronic flavour, while the two Nightmares On Wax rubs are chunkier, sweatier and even warmer with plenty of D-Train style synth squiggles and ear-catching musical flourishes. In a word: ace.

Further proof arrives via his latest sneaky two-tracker, which offers multi-track re-edits of two sing-along favourites. On side A he delivers a heavy disco revision of party classic "Copacabana" (yep, the Barry Manilow-written banger) that turns it into a breathless and sleazy workout fit for peak-time dancefloors. Over on side B he gets to work on disco-soul classic "I'll Be Around", underpinning the orchestration and repeated chorus vocal ("whenever you call me, I'll be there" etc) with house style beats for added oomph.
