  3. Mestizo Beats (Tony Lionni remix) (6:23)
Review: The latest release on Nicetraxuk sees Danny Ward share wax space with JCub under his Dubble D alias. Ward is best known as Moodymanc, a long-standing figure in the UK house scene, and he's on especially strong form with "Evans Above," where gorgeous strings and meandering live bass cascade around a journeying beat in mesmerising fashion. For those wanting the same musical delights but in a more club ready format, the subtly fired-up "Club Dub" on the flip should be just the ticket. Meanwhile JCub's "Mestizo Beats" reappears after an outing on the last Nicetraxuk release, this time remixed by deeper-than-deep stalwart Tony Lionni with scintillating results.

  4. London Mix (Beesmunt Soundsystem remix) (6:33)
Review: London based South African Esa continues the rich vein of form he triggered on his Dekmantel debut with this unique and refreshing EP on Endless Flight. Powered by loose limbed breaks and peppered with alluring, rippling African rhythms, sounds and melodies, the whole EP flicks and flares like we're still in the peak of summer: "Son Op" snaps and bubbles in mid 90s feel that wouldn't have gone amiss on Northern Exposure, "Bra Hugh" shimmers with a little tropical charm and a soothing velvet 80s Miami feel while "London Mix" is the most direct party jam with its strutting breaks and boogie style bass. Need a little contrast? Jump on the Beesmunt Soundsystem mix for some dark slo-mo tribal fun.

Carmine (12" repress)
Cat: FIT 012. Rel: 03 Sep 18
  1. Carmine (7:57)
  2. First Found (7:21)
Review: While establishing the Fit Sound imprint affiliated with the Detroit distro outlet of the same name , Aaron 'Fit' Siegel has been careful not to load the imprint with too many of his own productions, choosing instead to deliver material from Marcellus Pittman, Anthony 'Shake' Shakir, MGUN and Dungeon Acid. Here he makes a welcome return with two tracks of melodious, atmospheric, Motor City deepness. "Carmine" is particularly alluring, with twinkling melodies winding their way around yearning pads, bittersweet chords and shuffling, cymbal-heavy percussion. "First Found" is a little more forthright, with off-key pianos and scattergun electronics riding a tougher, locked-in groove.

  1. Packard (7:05)
  2. Anna (7:34)
  3. Marx (6:16)
Review: Almost 12 months after brilliantly joining the dots between house, techno and tech-house on the Exit Strategy released "No Limit EP", former Hypercolour and Hot Creations artist Tom Flynn makes his first appearance on Planet E. Of the three tracks, it's opener "Packard" - whose title doffs a cap to historic parties held at a former Detroit power plant - that makes the greatest impression. A thing of simple beauty, it sees jazz pianist Joshua Praiz unfurl stunningly heartfelt, slow-motion solos over hypnotic beats and crackly, looped vocal samples. "Anna" takes a similar approach, with a cut-up speech about fashion journalism stretching out over a smooth tech-house beat and fluid piano motifs, while "Marx" subtly doffs a cap to both Isolee and the deepest tech-house around.

  1. Theme 09 (6:39)
  2. Theme 10 (6:04)
  3. Theme 11 (7:45)
  4. Theme 12 (4:56)
Review: Frits Wentink delivers a third volume in his ongoing "Two Bar House Music & Chord Stuff" series, offering up another quartet of numerically titled "themes".The Bobby Donny supremo hits the ground running with "Theme 09", a swirling, smoky and dusty workout that sits somewhere between the horizontal haziness of Vancouver deep house and the bustling grooviness of basement-bothering mid-90s US house. "Theme 10" is a little more loose and lo-fi in tone, with Wentink utilizing all manner of cheap vintage synths and drum machines, while "Theme 11" is slower and jazzier with distinctive '80s synth-funk influences. "Theme 12", meanwhile, is dubby, driving and low-slung whilst retaining a hint of off-kilter jazz-funk.

Review: Italy's Funclab are bursting onto the scene with this terrific introduction to their kinda groove with House Al Dente - their first self-produced release. A collection of producers, DJs, promoters, and electronic music enthusiasts alike, they hail out of Milan and their main three sound designers have produced a track each. First up is Ayce Bio with the funked-up and sexy house of "Jazz Affair", Borbo with the lo-slung and jazzy disco on "Your Ex" and finally Turenne with the dusted-down and smooth deep vibe of "1000" Punti".

  3. How Can I Get To Sleep
Review: Simone Gatto has been working tirelessly to build up his catalogue of deep, thoughtfully crafted techno expressions - with albums on Out-Er, Pregnant Void and Sheik N' Beik, not to mention plenty of singles and EPs too, he's done a fine job of establishing himself as a singular voice in the techno thoroughfare. This latest 12" comes courtesy of Finale Sessions, who coax out some of the deeper material in Gatto's arsenal. There's heads down dubbiness to immerse yourself in on "Melodies From The Hearth," craftily filtered house abstractions on "Foot Tapping Mix" and the very Finale-esque smooth out of "How Can I Get To Sleep."

  4. For Love (7:39)
Review: Pure Cajual gold as Another Day release Spencer Kincy's one of four Gemini EPs on Relief. As with most of these early EPs (and his legendary sets) Kincy kicks off with a warm, deep number (the Nina Simone sampling beauty "U Know How I Feel") before feeding us to the Chicago lions... "Festival" is a relentless loopy jacker laced with carnival vocals, "Your Place Or Mine" plays tempo tricks with the mind before "For Love" closes with a hypnotic stomp that pays homage to the icy futurist charms of electro but with added concrete drums. Grab this before they all disappear!

  4. Klonopinless (6:28)
Review: Spencer Kincy takes us back to 94 as part of his four EP series that documents the first run of Gemini EPs on Green Velvet's seminal Relief Records imprint. Still as ahead of their time as they were almost 25 years ago, "The Beginning" is wildly off grid, loose and insanely funky while the rest of the EP gradually morphs into breath taking technoid experiments "Floating" takes a high NRG feel with its looping insistency "Klonopin" and its edited sibling "Klonopinless" offer a full physical sensation with their brazen hypnotic loopiness. Watch out for the other remaining three...

  4. Cyklone (6:37)
Review: Astonishingly, it's been 24 years since Gert-Jan Bijl released his first material as Gerd. It seems rather fitting, then, that much of the veteran producer's first outing on Aus draws influence from the producer's mid 1990s roots. Opener "The Prophetess", for example, combines classic IDM melodies and chords with bustling breakbeat-house drums, while the loved-up and glassy-eyed "Pleasure Groove" wraps bleeping electronics, futurist refrains and dreamy pads around a synth-bass propelled, hip-house style groove. Over on the flipside he dusts down his TB-303 and serves up two contrasting acid tracks: the futurist, Motor City influenced trip that is "Cybord Acid" and the no-nonsense, Chicago jack style intensity of "Cyklone".

Review: Glance is returning with an uncompromising and authentic record on Phonk D's Footjob. A founding member of the Running Back imprint with Gerd Janson, the German producer (known to his mum as Thorsten Scheu) has recorded under aliases such as Second Life and Pallaspeople, and here he dug through his archives to come back with some beautiful old tracks. From downbeat hip-hop joints reminiscent of his former genre-crossing alter ego Siro, to moments of classic Stateside house from the early '90s - as best heard on jams like "Strong Enough" or "Missing You" (Dub) or a zeitgeist of The Windy City's heyday on the rather Larry Heard indebted "Great White" which was pure bliss.

Review: Rhythm Plate's Goshawk project is the best thing to come out of Matlock Bath since the opening of child-friendly theme park Gulliver's Kingdom in 1978. Here the veteran East Midlands house duo pitches up on Bristol imprint Boogie Cafe, enlists the services of Erik Rico's honeyed tonsils and serves up "Piano" and "Percussion" variants of the rather fine "Home". It's the former versions that reside on the A, with the vocal and Dub variations both making great use of an elastic, rubbery rhythm, jaunty piano riffs and occasional organs. As the title suggests, the "Percussion" versions boast tons of additional drum hits, though it's the smart, old school U.S garage vibe that's really getting our blood pumping.

  4. Distant Lover (reprise) (7:19)
Review: There's much to admire about soul chanteuse Terisa Griffin's new 12", which marks the veteran vocalist's first single in nearly six years. It's a cover of Marvin Gaye classic "Distant Lover", produced by her old sparring partner and studio buddy Terry Hunter. There are three versions of the wonderfully loose and organic "Distant Mix", with the "Club" version providing the greatest thrills thanks to the presence of Griffin's passionate vocals amongst the fluid drums, disco-soul instrumentation and warm, summery chords. Those looking for something even more spine-tingling should check the brilliant EP closing "Reprise" mix, where Griffin's sweet soul vocal and Hunter's impeccable instrumentation are only accompanied by a whisper of percussion and sun-ripened guitars.

Review: New York city legend Victor Simonelli has worn many hats throughout his extensive career as a respected producer. He originally released this beauty back in '92, recorded under the Groove Committee moniker on local institution Nu Groove. "Dirty Games" (club mix) is a true zeitgeist of early '90s underground club music with its powerful diva vocals, uplifting chord progression and swing-fuelled groove. You'll also find the dubb mix that was also featured on the original, an edit from 1993 and the soulful garage bounce of "I Wanna Hold You" (original Emotive 12' club mix). Absolutely timeless.

Review: Following his Fade Back From Reality EP on Shall Not Fade sister label Lost Palms a few months ago, Cardiff's Harrison BDP is back with another killer - this time on London's Phonica. Uplifting 'power' house vibes abound on the explosive "Life Unlimited", while the dubby and hypnotic cyclicality of "Fish In The Tank" perfectly nails that sound of tech-house that we're particularly fond of at present. Find a real special treat on the flip in the form of "It's All Good" - a soulful and funky breakbeat driven number perfect for any set.

Review: Melbourne's Andy Hart is known for heading up the Voyage imprint, which over the last few years has pursued the many shades of deep house with releases by the likes of Harvey Sutherland, Urulu and Youandewan. Here he inaugurates his new Voyager sublabel, which sees a noticeable change of tune. On "Neutron Capture" he delivers a slow burning deep space transmission aboard the acid express, while the functional B side cut "Lftrr" is a dubby and hypnotic techno jam suited to heads-down moments in dank warehouse spaces. If this is a sign of things to come for Hart's new outlet, expect a string of club ready and dancefloor orientated cuts.

  3. Can Your Love Find Its Way (club instrumental) (5:19)
Review: Once in a while Tevo Howard has devoted some space on his Beautiful Granville label to the dulcet tones of his father, Rick 'Poppa' Howard. As a fitting tribute to Rick's sad passing, Tevo has dug out "Can Your Love Find A Way" and made a reissue that will stand the test of time as a gem of authentic, soul-stirring deep house crafted with passion and feeling. The plaintive keys on the title track are the perfect bed for Rick's croon, while the shaken-up urgency of "Who's Gonna Make Your Name" will suit livelier club situations. It's a moving record with added weight given the situation - true feelings feeding into true soul music that lives on forever.

LA's Oscar Huang takes us back to Chicago circa 86 with a lavish piano strutter that's designed to boost soirees to full on parties while Heidy and Vandi's Rhythm Phazer project plunges us deeper into the electronic cosmos with a shimmering slab of Silver City style space disco. Unabashed foundation timelessness.
