Review: It's been a whirlwind 12 months for DJ Seinfeld, who has gone from "unknown entity" to hyped producer in what seems like the blink of an eye. There's little doubt that this debut album on Lobster Fury will simply enhance his credentials further. It's a typically dusty and lo-fi affair, but far more positive in tone than your average crackly techno full-length. The Swedish producer makes extensive use of rubbery synth basslines, hazy R&B and pop vocal samples and the kind of production tricks more frequently found on disco-house and old US garage records (while, naturally, rarely sounding exactly like either style). In other words, the album is full of attractive, floor-friendly party techno for those who like their cuts fun and funky, rather than stern and severe.

Review: Eccentric Swedish sitcom enthusiast turned producer DJ Seinfeld is hot property right now, so it's hardly a surprise to see him mixing the latest instalment in the DJ Kicks series. It's rather good, all told, offering a good run through of his influences and inspirations whilst also packing plenty of dancefloor punch. Taken in isolation, the Swede's on-point selections (think breakbeat-driven lo-fi house, dreamy deep house, skewed techno and bubbly post-IDM jams) are often deep, melodious, atmospheric and left-of-centre; brought together, the result is a wonderfully fluid and entertaining mix. Highlights include the downtempo bliss of the producer's own "I See U", the bass-heavy breaks/deep house fusion of Rudolf C's "Deep Sea Survivor", the rushing dancefloor mania of FaltyDL and the loved-up goodness of Project Pablo.

Review: Keys Of Life has been a label often praised and plaid by Norway's DJ Sotofett, so this collaboration with Helsinki's Jesse feels like a natural turn of events for both artists. Essentially genre-less the whole way through, Twotinos is best described as being downtempo music with an subtle afro edge, no doubt carried through by Sotofett's own predisposition to boogie and disco. Tribal and balearic in the best of ways, there is much to explore and dig into here, but our picks have to be "Orga Fit", a dreamy bounce of disco infusions and tropical manoeuvres, and the excellent electro-disco groove of "Kuume". The rest will certainly come in more than useful to any DJ looking for a bit of life in their transitions but, then again, that's what this label specialises in...

  10. DJ Sotofett & Gilb'R - "97" (outro) (1:55)
Review: Serial collaborator DJ Sotofett pops up on Honest Jon's with a typically excellent doublepack built around a quartet of studio hook-ups. Aside from Versatile boss Gilb'r (here lending a helping hand on some African-influenced ambient house), most of the collaborators are new additions to the eccentric Norwegian's out-there audio universe. The two tracks with Phillip Lauer and JKS - an intergalactic ambient affair and a chunk of early Fila Brazillia style deep house - are particularly potent, while there's something deliciously warm and evocative about the Norwegian's explorations with Finn Jaakko Eino Kalevi. Best of all, though, are the two tracks with African vocalists Karlolin Tampere and Maimouna Haugen; "Nondo Riddimix", which boasts deliciously dense drums and sparse, exotic melodies, is arguably the highlight.

The full album contains 18. four of which can be found on this stunning gatefold double 12"... Review: Given his prolific nature, it's perhaps surprising to find that 5 is actually Medhi Djebali's debut album. The title was apparently chosen as both a nod to the fifth anniversary of his self-titled label, and as a reflection of the number of months it took the Parisian to record it. As you might expect, it's an enjoyable collection of largely club-friendly cuts, with Djebali offering nods towards Robsoul style tech-house ("Nineties Playground", "Mister Bastard"), spacey ambience ("Heartgroover", "The Other Night"), acid (the funk-fuelled "D.B Cooper", "God's Dreams"), and warm, early morning deep house ("Seven Blessings", "Ideal Dawn"). To round things off, he also includes a head-nodding chunk of dreamy instrumental hip-hop (John Dimas collaboration "Suzaku").

Review: Circle Of Live is a collaborative electronic project led by the Swedish techno artist Sebastian Mullaert. It aims to reevaluate the structures of performance, linking artists and their machines for improvised jams. It debuted at Baskerville Hall as part of Wales based Freerotation festival, featuring a revolving cast of musicians, who in this incarnation included such big names as Mathew Jonson, Dorisburg and Johanna Knutsson, alongside festival and label co-founder Steevio. With artists like this linking up, you can just imagine what kind of magic they'd possibly conjure up and we can assure you it's absolutely sublime. These five excerpts from the live performance capture some of their most dynamic and spellbinding moments.

Review: Rush Hour have released some killer reissues in their time, and this mini-album from Ben Cenac of Newcleus fame, released under the Dream 2 Science moniker in 1990 is no exception, sounding like a conscious response to the warm, soul-flecked offerings of contemporaries Bobby Konders, the Burrell Brothers and Lamont Booker. Amazingly, Dream 2 Science still sounds remarkably fresh, 22 years on. The production, in particular, is terrific. While many house records of the period sound clumsy and dated, there's a timeless quality to the intricately programmed drum machine rhythms, the drifting chords, warm analogue basslines and cute vibraphone melodies.

Originally released on his own short lived New Age House Records, these timeless jams fetch high prices on the secondhand market, but Welcome To Our New Age House includes the best of those two releases, remastered from the original ADATs for the sixth release on Ari Goldman's World Building imprint. 10. Deep Is Dead (song For T.T.D.)
Review: While on this new record he may declare that Deep Is Dead, the notion of Dubbyman turning his back on the smooth, immersive sound he has built up all these years is borderline laughable. Instead what we have is an update on his deep house standards, with a greater emphasis on instrumentation and an embrace of different tempos and grooves. Still, the languid jazzy atmosphere remains at the forefront of this album, whether it's Dubbyman flying solo or welcoming in likeminded souls such as Kuniyuki Takahashi or Allstar Motomusic. Take your pick anywhere on this stellar constellation, the mood is refined and rich with expression, just how deep house should be.

Review: It's been three years since husband-and-wife team Jus' Ed and Jenifa Mayanja released their collaborative debut album, Let's Groove. Since then, both have been busy with solo projects, delivering a large volume of releases in their distinctive warm, melodious and loose deep house style. Love It Or Leave It, then, is something of a rare treat for those who dig their wholeheartedly positive and spontaneous take on deep house. It's perhaps a little breezier than either producer's solo work, with less immersive pads (though they are present, particularly on the chiming "Love Bubbles Change"). It's still deep, though, with cascading melodies, picturesque chords and occasional soul-flecked vocals riding a range of deep, sinewy house grooves.

Review: Under his Erdbeerschnitzel guise, producer Tim Kelling has consistently delivered excellent material that's notoriously hard to pigeonhole. Tender Leaf, his second full-lenghth, follows a similar pattern. His default setting seems to be bright but woozy electronica heavily laden with nu-disco synths and curious, off-beat deep house rhythms. There's plenty of that here, alongside more dancefloor-centric tracks that shift further towards loose deep house (see "Semantics") and skittering, bass-music inspired beatscapes that glisten with high-speed rhythmic intent. There's also a deliciously wonky house/nu-disco/R&B fusion ("Through The Night") that's almost worth the admission price on its own.

Review: Tim 'Erdbeerschnitzel' Keiling has been rather quiet of late, with his last release of note being the superb Ample Waters 12" on Delsin this time last year. The appearance of this third full-length - his first since 2012's Tender Leaf on Mirau - may explain his silence. Attendants is, somewhat predictably, another fine example of Keiling's talent for producing emotion-rich, melodious electronic music that refuses to stick to one tried-and-tested groove or rhythmic pattern. While rooted in the beauty of deep house and the spacey futurism of Detroit, many of the tracks owe as much to glitch-hop, broken beat and IDM as straight-up dancefloor fare. Regardless, it's an album that veritably glistens with positive intent from start to finish.

Review: London industrial duo Nik Void and Gabe Gurnsey aka Factory Floor release their original score of Fritz Lang's 1927 classic Metropolis, via the band's own imprint H/O/D. They first performed the 150 minute score live in the museum's IMAX, which was commissioned by London's Science Museum in 2017. A Soundtrack For A Film arrives with artwork by British artist Haroon Mirza, adapted and arranged by Void in collaboration with illustrator Sam Moore. "Heart Of Data" and "Babel" were mixed by award-winning producer Marta Salogni. The box set includes the entire 2.5 reimagined score on four 12".

Review: Paxton Fettel is a Danish producer whose been crafting a sound that falls somewhere between the drum machine and melodious sounds of Smallville's records and the convivial and classical tones of what can be heard in Giegling's music. Following 12"s for Greta Cottage Workshop and Barcelona's Apersonal Music, Paxton Fettel's debut album returns to the UK for a release on Matt Densham flourishing label. You'll find whimsical, summery house vibes on album opener "Amber Light Burns", while tones are slightly colder but equally heartfelt on "Afloat On A Sea Of Nothing", made with Iero artist Takuya Matsumoto. The mood gets deeper while offset by the slapped-out bass-funk of "Beyond The Sapphire Surf", and for a dalliance in instrumental hip hop tempos check out "Future Adventures".

Review: Theo Conrad (better known for his work under the Paxton Fettel alias) has long been one of Greta Cottage Workshop's most intriguing artists. His first full-length for the Devon imprint, Everything Stays The Same, inhibited similar territory to the classic deep house/downtempo/soul/jazz fusion of fellow West Country dwellers The Rurals. This follow-up is, if anything, even better. Described by the label as "instrumental contemporary jazz-funk", the album sees Conrad combining loose jazz breaks and jazzy synths with the kind of rich grooves, fireside textures and dreamy electronics more often found in vintage deep house productions. It's a formula that results in a string of brilliant tracks.

Review: There's no sign of "difficult second album syndrome" to be found on All That Must Be, George Fitzgerald's follow-up to 2015 debut full-length Fading Love. In fact, you could say it's something of a triumph. It was written over an 18-month period and tracks the highs and lows of his private life, largely by eschewing his club-rocking roots in favour of songs and instrumentals that bristle with melancholy, gentle melodiousness and ear-catching electronic instrumentation. Of course, it's still rooted in contemporary club sounds, its just more James Blake or Jamie XX than, say, old pal Will Saul or Special Request. Notably, it's the more poignant songs, including fine collaborations with Lil Silva and Tracey Thorn, which linger longest in the memory.

Review: We've been waiting on this one since "J&W Beat" six years ago; there's something about Floating Points sound that instantly lends itself to full-length album immersion. It's clear he feels this way too; using the album to delve deeper into electronic deconstructions and delicate ensemble arrangements. At its most adventurous and contemporary classical "Argente" is up there with Frahm, at is dreamiest and jazz-influenced "For Marmish" is a deeply cosmic affair with disparate chords making more sense than they perhaps should. At its most traditional Floating Points we hit the finale "Perotation Six" where the brushed drums are buried under layers of sound and elements in a way that's not dissimilar to Radiohead. Well worth the wait.

Review: If you were judging Kieran Hebden's 11th Four Tet studio album merely on the way it's presented, you'd immediately think he'd spent the last two years immersed in early '90s ambient house albums. While it's unlikely he's done that, it's fair to say that New Energy does owe a debt to classic electronica sets from that period. For all the exotic instrumentation and subtle nods to post-dubstep "aquacrunk" experimentalism and chiming, head-in-the-clouds sunrise house, the album feels like a relic of a lost era. That's not meant as a criticism - New Energy is superb - but it is true that his choice of neo-classical strings, gentle new age melodies, sweeping synthesizer chords and disconnected vocal samples would not sound out of place on a Global Communication album.

As usual, the music is rarely less than immaculate, with the imaginative and talented producer showcasing most sides of his musical personality. Highlights come thick and fast, from the yearning, soft focus melodiousness of quietly jazzy deep house opener "Smiles" and shimmering Motor City techno futurism of "Travelling Zones", to the blissful house minimalism of "Simple Things" and acid-flecked late night hypnotism of closer "Arigato". Superior electronic club music composed by a master: what more do you need?

Review: Here's something guaranteed to ensure a rush of excitement in deep house heads everywhere: a brand new album from much-loved U.S producer Fred P. It's the first under the previously unused F.P-Oner alias, and his first studio outing since 2013's Black Jazz Chronicles set, Codes & Metaphors. Unsurprisingly, the simply titled 5 is as inspired, sumptuous and melodious as you'd expect, with gentle dub house, jazz and - in the case of the wonderful "Infinite Love" - Detroit techno influences. While much of the album is slinky, sensual and ultra-deep (see the fabulous "Visions of You" and "Sleepless in Shibuku"), there are a couple of thrillingly percussive moments to get the pulse racing, including the African-influenced tribal workout "The Realm of Possibility".

Review: Prolific and long-serving Canadian producer Fred Everything is never one to rest on his laurels, but it's been no less than 10 years since he last released an album (the classic Lost Together on Om Records). Now he finally returns to the long player format on his own Lazy Days label with the appropriately titled Long Way Home, a widescreen exploration of his sound via all manner of styles. There's gorgeous broken beat and neo soul, slow-strutting electronic disco and modern boogie, and that's just the A side of this expansive 12-track album. Warm, immaculately produced and unafraid of embracing pop as much as underground styles, it's a masterful return from Mr. Everything.

Review: Given the brilliantly simple concept behind this fine compilation - contemporary Detroit producers remix Funkadelic - we're rather surprised nobody's done it before. With 17 varied re-rubs stretched across two hugely entertaining CDs, there's plenty to enjoy. Highlights come thick and fast, from the deep house/P-funk fusion of Alton Miller's take on "Get Your Ass Off and Jam" and Andres' loose, hip-hop influenced revision of "Music For My Mother", to the thrusting loops and heady late night hypnotism of Anthony Shake Shakir and T-Dancer's version of "Standing on the Verge". While many of the versions stay relatively faithful to the original, the more "out-there" interpretations - see BMG's outer-space ambient dub of "Maggot Brain" and Moodymann's epic revision of "Cosmic Slop" - are also consistently impressive.

Review: Having taken time out to deliver a range of home listening releases under the Road Hog alias, Galcher Lustwerk is back to doing what he does best: lo-fi deep house workouts with plenty of added fuzz. Dark Bliss is, of course, his debut album, and happily it's a rather strong collection of cuts that's arguably more aurally attractive than many of his releases. Highlights include the lo-fi Balearic deep house warmth of "What U Want Me To Do" (which, intriguingly, features his own Mr V style half-spoken, half-sung vocals), the chunky-but-dreamy dub house positivity of "Yeeno", the spacey synths and bustling drum machine beats of alien-sounding workout "Lithuanian Water" and the subtle ghetto-house and Seven Davis Jr influences of glassy-eyed peak-time treat "Red Rose".

Review: Killer new LP length project from the man that is Gifted & Blessed! Although Gabriel Reyes-Whittaker has been producing his soul-filled machine music under a number of aliases since 2004, most notably as Gifted & Blessed, the past year has seen him break out with releases for high profile labels like All City, Eglo and Wild Oats, with his release for the latter providing one of the most memorable bespoke vinyl releases of recent times. However, its his own eponymous label that has been the primary home for most of the producer's recent work, with the 3 Aspects of One EP providing the most recent example. One of this year's most appropriately named LPs, Within These Machines is by no means the LA resident' s first album but it does see him expand his style somewhat with typically excellent results. There are more overtly house and techno moments here for example, though tracks like the gurgling "Tesla's Notebook" and restless "Rain Dance" are as experimentally minded as ever.
