Cat: DES 0048. Rel: 03 Mar 14
  1. Autumn Of 1986
  2. Basement People
  3. September
  4. Speak To Me
Review: TFJ, the vinyl lover and collector from Armenia, is not a DJ, he just loves House music and loves to produce it. Tommy has a love for Deep House, and we at Deso love Deep House and House music with soul. This is exactly what TFJ aka Tommy J. Finger delivers with this amazing EP on Deso.

  3. The Assassinator (5:18)
  4. XDC (5:51)
Review: Sheffield's Thatmanmonkz returns with the Feels Trip To The District EP, where he teams up with his good pal Martin Miguel. The record is inspired by several trips to dope parties in the District of Columbia, home of the quickly rising label Better Listen Records. Starting off with the the lo-slung disco deepness of "Sweetiez Fresh", it's a dusty and looped up jam that will appeal to fans of the Robsoul sound. On the flip, things take a well funkier and more soulful turn with that familiar vocal on "The Assassinator" and finally things end on a groovy and sun kissed note with the slo-mo/hip-hop inspired boogie of "XDC". Real name Scott Moncrieff, he's appeared previously on a who's who of labels such as Delusions Of Grandeur, Kolour LTD and Classic in recent times.

The Problem With George (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: CY 014. Rel: 12 Feb 18
  1. Take Me Back (9:10)
  2. To La Luna (7:05)
Review: The Problem With George finds drum & bass producer George Levings of Commix embracing his deep house side alongside Endian, and they shore up on Cynic with a high grade EP of thoughtful cuts that should suit the warm up or run down perfectly. "Take Me Back" is a gentle, steady-cruising affair that uses a simple spread of sounds impeccably. "To La Luna" is a feistier concern with its acid touches and punchy rhythm section, but it's still sliding in at an easy tempo to keep things steady without the need for peak time fireworks.

  3. Mark Thibideau - "4v Cycle" (7:10)
  4. Mark Thibideau - "Late Train" (7:47)
Review: The Joule imprint continues to wreak havoc on our charts, and this latest collaboration between brothers Matt and Mark Thibideau is exactly the right thing for you if you're looking for some effective house grooves. Matt Thibideau's first two tracks, "Evaporation" and "Time Stands" are both effortlessly punchy deep house bangers with a strong dub-techno presence at their core, deep in the lower ends of the tracks; Mark's two licks are no different, both similarly laying down heavy 4/4 punches with mounds of echo and dubwise filtering. Smooth and elegant DJ tools.

Cat: NNFP 002. Rel: 12 Mar 18
  1. Tilman - "Without Your Love"
  2. Jonny Rock - "Oldschool Funk Edit"
  3. Lucky Charmz - "Sun Mountain"
  4. Pletnev - "Babunde"
Review: Bobby Pleasure's Needs label has been launched as a not-for-profit concern aimed at raising money for worthy causes, and on this second instalment they're setting their sights on British homelessness charity Crisis. They've called upon a cracking cast of deep house operators to help donate their jams to the cause, kicking off with Tilman's infectious, looped up heavy-grooving "Without Your Love". Jonny Rock takes a boogie-inflected, 80s approach on the aptly titled "Oldschool Funk Edit", while Lucky Charmz heads into swooning edit territory on the beautiful "Sun Mountain". Pletnev rounds the record out in fine style with a tripped out bongo roller in the shape of "Babunde'.

Review: Short Black are very happy to present SB002. Two originals tracks by Time Division with remixes from Amir Alexander & Dakini9. Time Division supply two raw Deep Techno cuts, phat, warm and dope. Amir Alexander's remix is a Techno bomb and should work wonders on the dance floor. Dakini9 goes deep into the pits of techno showing us why she believes in deep.

  1. Wingman
  2. Treehouse
  3. Funky Town
  4. In Between
  5. What About Samira
  6. Seven
  7. Behind The Curtain
  8. Nero Verde
Review: Times Are Ruff is back on Tommorow Is Now, Kid! with a whole album's worth of that fiery, soul-stewing business for deep house heads who want a little spice in their sauce. On one hand "Wingman" is a brash, stomping cut shaped out by snappy drums, but on the other it's a smooth Rhodes laden affair soaring to the sky - the best of both worlds. "Treehouse" is a more flowing affair peppered with illustrious instrumentation, "Funky Town" gets locked into the New Jersey swing and "In Between" cools things down with a sweet instrumental. "What About Samira" gets right back to it with a rattling jazz funk excursion, "Seven" takes things in a tougher electronic direction, "Behind The Curtain" gets reflective in its lingering chords and then "Nero Verde" finishes the bumper pack of jams off on a pointed, modernist house tip.

  2. Times Are Ruff - "Dr Zanbar" (6:57)
  3. Il Garage - "Croccante" (5:24)
  4. Il Garage - "Delizioso" (6:04)
Review: Times Are Ruff are a Den Haag based record label and DJ team. Junktion, Larry de Kat and S3A have previously appeared for the label in recent times. Their fifteenth release features the label head honchos themselves take over the A side - with the jazzy and dusted down shenanigans of "GhettoMiles" getting its swing fuelled shuffle on in style, followed by the sensual late night mood lighting of "Dr Zanbar" which gets ultra deep. On the flip, it is over to debutante Il Garage with the hypnotic disco loops of "Croccante" and the lo-slung slo-mo deepness of "Delizioso" which will appeal to fans of Berlin's Money $ex or similarly the output of Paris' D.KO.

  3. Untitled Three (5:06)
  4. Untitled Four (3:17)
Review: Amsterdam's Bobby Donny is a label by Steve Mensink and home to local wunderkind Frits Wentink amongst others. They now present Californian producer Tlim Shug (E-Beamz/Echovolt) with some lush, lo-fi house shenanigans. From the emotive, slo-mo deepness of "Untitled One" with its Terekke influence and VHS aesthetic throughout, the A side also features the second untitled cut - a dusty, MPC style jam reminiscent of that Berlin sound popularised by Max Graef or Glenn Astro. On the flip, feel the vibe of "Untitled Three" with its hypnotic polyrhythms that will put you in a trance.

Split EP (limited 12")
Cat: EBEAMZ 002. Rel: 05 Dec 16
  1. Tlim Shug - "Funeral Errday" (5:19)
  2. DJ Playstation - "Press Start" (5:48)
Review: Launching with both serious and strange statements of intent: the location-unknown vinyl only E-Beamz imprint continues its wide-armed embrace of the deep with another boundary-smashing 12". US mystery man Tlim Shug paves the path with chugging Chi-town jack that wouldn't go amiss in a Farina set while Playstation (a Frenchman you may know as Maukook) lays down an Omni Trio flavoured jungle joint that's coated in pads so thick and breezy you can taste them. Delicious.

  2. Flowers (7:01)
  3. Wisp Tessellation (4:43)
  4. Hurt's Gem (5:51)
  5. Hydrogenesis (6:39)
Review: If you're a fan of either the far-sighted, trippy house coming out of Vancouver right now, or the more acid-flecked roughness of Tabernacle Records, this 12" from Tom McConnell's TMC project could be for you. Over the course of five impressive tracks, the fast-rising producer showcases a machine heavy take on house and techno that's in turns raw, melodious, spacey and aggressive. Contrast, for example, the fluttering flute melodies, woozy chords and clicking percussion of "Flowers", or undeniably blazed "Wisp Tessellation", with the frenetic drum machine percussion and new age motifs of "Hurt's Gem", or the psychedelic acid assault of "Hydrogenesis". Opener "Sands", a formidably dark trip into techno territory, is similarly impressive.

  1. Hear Me Out (7:20)
  2. Indigo (7:01)
Review: Right here is an emotionally driven release from Leeds based producer Tom VR on his local imprint Valby Rotary, which he runs with a couple of blokes named Benito and Louis. They have brought us tracks by Louf recently it's said that and after sharing tunes with one another for years decided to start a label. Good on 'em! On the A side 'Hear Me Out' is a lush excursion in deepness with its tough and dusty drums leading the way, while soothing pads and that hypnotic melody reaches near acidic moments. On the flip is the bittersweet "Indigo". This one is so evocative in all its lo-fi glory but is classic deep house of a pre and soulful kind.

Review: REPRESS ALERT: It was undoubtedly a big moment for Hudd Traxx when they got Chez Damier on board to lend his vocal tones to Eddie Leader and Tomson's "I Am With You" back in 2014. A few years on and Huddersfield's premier house label are revisiting the modern classic with a raft of top shelf remixers on hand. Iron Curtis brings a bubbling, piano-enriched lilt to the jam, while Bristolian duo Outboxx go for an understated slice of straight up deep house. Ekkohaus gets busy with chunky tech house concoction, and then Sakro smooths the mood out with some jazzy keys and a steady groove.

Cat: HTV 003. Rel: 23 Oct 17
  1. Broken Heart (feat Rachel)
  2. Street Groove
  3. Feel So Good
  4. Something Jazzy
Review: Disco Fruit's sublabel continues to turn out smooth and slick deep, funky house, and this time around Tonbe is on hand with the goods to get the people grooving. "Broken Heart" features Rachel on vocals and some sweet saxophone, hitting the spot just right for universally appealing house music. "Street Groove" is a more forthright, clubby affair where the drums take the lead and the keys lock into a loopy late night roll. "Feel So Good" features some more choice vocal turns with urgent melodic hooks, and then "Something Jazzy" swoops in at the end with some proper New Jersey heat to get your body popping.

  4. Esa Montana Se Movera (Joaquin Joe Claussell Teenage Music remix) (10:55)
Review: New York City's Most Excellent are back with some of the first ever music put to wax by one the label owner's closest friend, Cesar Toribio. They say it best themselves when they tell us that the music "is honest, vulnerable, and exposes parts of his personality that even those who are fortunate to know him." The Brooklynite by way of Tampa, Florida, is an alumni of Berklee's School of Music and recorded "My Dear" in his college dorm room in 2011. "Esa MontaNa se Movera" was great, but that reinterpretation by none other than Joaquin "Joe" Claussell (Sacred Rhythm: a hero of Cesar's) on the flip, has exactly the kind of life affirming vibes on the dancefloor you could expect at his Body & Soul NYC residency. Second track "Respire" was the real joy on here, reminiscent of classic Ron Trent in all its emotive and sensual glory. Mixed by Phil Moffa.

Kangaroo Ground (12" + MP3 download code)
Cat: BIS 018. Rel: 02 Mar 15
  1. Kangaroo Ground
  2. Ferntree Gully
Review: Over his last few releases, Australian producer Tornado Wallace has crafted a trademark sound that blends colourful, kaleidoscopic melodies with dreamy chords and an almost Balearic sense of glassy-eyed release. Interestingly, these aural trademarks are played down a little on this follow-up to his 2013 Beats In Space debut. Sure, they can be heard in the picturesque, luscious beauty of flipside "Ferntree Gully", but the title track is an altogether rougher concoction. "Kangaroo Ground" sees the Melbourne man successfully try his hand at acid house, layering twisted 303 lines and occasional cosmic chords over a clanking drum machine rhythm. It's a surprise, but a very impressive one.
