  1. Until You're Worth It (original version)
  2. Until You're Worth It (Mark E remix 1)
  3. Until You're Worth It (Andrew Weatherall remix)
Review: With Norwegian eccentrics Mungolian Jetset and Ost & Kjex involved, you'd expect "Until You're Worth It" - Belgian duo Mugwump's latest genre-swerving offering - to be a little on the quirky side. As expected, it is, though it's a far more polished, tactile and organic sounding cut than you may be expecting. Sparse, low-slung, warm and dubby, it features the Norwegian contingent singing over a wide-eyed, dubbed-out Balearic pop groove. It's great, as is Mark E's bubbling, heavily electronic remake. Best of all, though, is Andrew Weatherall's revision, which recasts the original as a heavyweight chunk of pitched-down, punk-funk influenced dub disco.

Review: Southern Moon is the first pre single of the upcoming Munk album and comes with remixes by HNNY (Local Talk) and Darius Syrossian (Hot Creations).. With its crisp house beat, funk baseline and beautiful singing of Lizzie Paige this track is a shiny little summersong that makes you think of the great production of Trevor Horn or Masters at Work with a new edge.

Review: Following the excellent instalment from DJ Skull, Mentha continues to gather pace as a house and techno label of note with this sublime offering from Hakim Murphy. While the Chicago native may be known for some bruising hardware house and techno a lot of the time, he's showing his more sensitive side on this release with delicate tracks that head into deep techno waters. The title of the EP says it all, as nimble, expressive beats merge with soothing, aqueous pad tones for a most satisfying of listening experiences. Fans of early deep techno a la B12 and Stasis will find much to enjoy here.

The Chocolate Dice EP (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: D3E 009. Rel: 22 Feb 16
  1. Boxbeat
  2. Taste o'Rainbow
  3. Freshness
Review: French label D3 Elements returns to Chicago for its next EP, this time looking to the assured house talents of Hakim Murphy for three tracks of raw, dense grooves right from the heart of the Windy City. Opener 'Boxbeat' is a curious, freaky jam with bobbing percussive hits, wonky, pixel thin synth lines and free roaming pads that wrap the whole thing in a nice sense of spaced-out serenity. 'Taste o'Rainbow' has a much more firmly planted kick drum that pounds away uninterrupted below a free flowing brew of modulate synth sounds. It's expertly reduced and masterfully reserved and is sure to send dance floors wild as a result. The flipside cut 'Freshness' has pinging drums and a big, frazzled bass line as slithering chords rain down the face. Musical yet jacking, cosmic yet propulsive, it is a perfectly contemporary Chicago house sound that rounds out a fine EP from one of the best in the game.

Everything U Know (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: GYC 002. Rel: 14 May 18
  1. Everything U Know
  2. Infiltrator
Review: After launching last year with Who, Get Your Copy returns to the fray with a little help from Italian powerhouse Steve Murphy. The producer gets plenty of action on labels like Hot Haus, Chiwax, Lobster Theremin and more besides, so you know you're going to get a solid dose of tuff house business delivered with that gutsy Roman attitude. "Everything U Know" channels an abundance of 90s vibes, from the nagging chord stab to the understated speech sample, while "Infiltrator" takes a tribal direction without losing the old-skool flavour. Both cuts are perfectly shaped for the dance, whether you want to hit a peak time note or take the crowd deep into the groove.

Review: Shimmering slow-mo soul from Berlin's Luca Musto. Smoky, unhurried and loaded with delicate emotion, it's another Balearic motherload as we're plunged into foggy trumpets and jazzy swirls on "Let Me Down", immersed in whirling reverse tones and dusty Bonoboesque haziness on "Once Upon A Grind" and taken on a bluesy one-way trip to Norway on "Parabel". Loire's deep chug remix seals the deal. Stunning.

  1. Track 1 (6:23)

Review: Man of mystery E Myers set tongues wagging with last year's debut 12", "Home". Having already followed this up with the similarly solid Love/Hate double A-side earlier in 2016, he drops another dancefloor bomb. In its' Main Mix form, Untitled is a chunky, retro-futurist gem, with Myers fixing Jan Hammer style '80s synth work to bustling, Chicago style drum machine rhythms. These clattering rhythm patterns - all ricocheting hits, sturdy kicks, clanging cowbells and relentless handclaps - come to the fore on the excellent "Beat Mix", while the "Heat Mix" focuses a little more on the throbbing synthesizer refrains.

  4. Late Night At The Music Box (6:10)
Review: Mint Condition's latest trip into vintage house territory comes from Mystic Bill, the Chicago-based Floridian whose produced some of the finest Windy City house of the late 1990s. Classics From The Vault Vol. 1 first appeared on Relief Records back in 1997, and has recently become something of a sought-after 12". Naturally, it's stood the test of time rather well. "Mind Ride" is a thumping blend of Ghetto-house drums, relentless electronic tweakery and psychedelic intent, while "The Struggle" tiptoes the fine line between jacking hypnotism and trippy, late night eccentricity. Flip for the loopy, proto-boompty warmth of "Jazz In Space", where synth horns tumble down over and snappy drum machine groove, and the rolling deep house exoticism of "Late Night At The Music Box".

  5. Czary Mary (5:34)
Review: Having set out their stall via a fine first collaborative release on Bordello a Parigi a couple of months back, Mytron and Ofofo pitch up on Multi-Culti. As you'd expect from a label with such a strong track record of multi-cultural musical fusion, much of the EP defies easy categorization. Sure, you'll find a chunk of Italo-influenced electro ("Non-Binary Joys on the Venus Holodeck") and a couple of slabs of madcap disco-funk fusion ("Si Jambo" and "2Tac Onana"), but also a heavyweight slab of low-slung punk-funk/post disco ("Czary Mary"). Oh, and the skewed electro-funk-meets-intergalactic synth pop insanity of "Something for Your Mind", which also boasts some notably brain-melting vocoder action. More, please!

  4. LK - "Honey" (4:35)
Review: The comic book-inspired Quartet Series returns to action, with another four studio superheroes joining the label's unofficial 'League of Extraordinary House Producers'. Returning hero Nachtbraker kicks things off with "Dobie", a quirky foray into percussion rich, jazz-house territory that packs serious dancefloor punch. Laurence Guy successfully breaks up the beats on the deep and woozy "Love & Be Loved", while Tommy Vicardi Jnr works his DJ Sneak style beats and cut-up samples hard on the deliciously energetic "Aplomb". Finally, LK doffs a cap to R&B, hip-hop and Detroit deep house on the pitched-down 4/4 shuffle of closer "Honey", which should appeal to those who enjoy the work of Marcel Vogel, Inkswel and Andres.

Cat: STOWN 015. Rel: 03 Oct 16
  1. Nail - "Shake Back" (7:58)
  2. Jonno & Tommo - "Wolf Spirit" (3:14)
Review: Spain's Slow Town rarely fails to deliver the goods. Split, so called because it contains tracks from numerous artists, more than lives up to the label's rising reputation. It probably helps that the A-side comes from former Bent man and longtime East Midlands deep house stalwart Nail. His "Shake Back" explores similar sonic territory to Pepe Bradock's "Deep Burnt", whilst retaining the chunky, bass-heavy bottom-end recognizable from his releases for Classic, Shabby Doll and Robsoul Recordings. On the flip, there's an equally assured cut from London stalwarts Jonno & Tommo. "Wolf Spirit" is an altogether more tech-tinged affair, built around a restless electronic bassline, hypnotic percussion and woozy, late night chords.

  1. Palm Trees Love
  2. Spring Ball
  3. Spring Ball (Simon Haydo rework)
Review: Polish studio boffin Naphta seems to be a producer on the rise. His most recent EP, Solar Empire, created memorable deep house tracks out of humid instrumentation, loose percussion and curious South American influences. Here he's at it again, offering exotic, sun-ripened grooves for Axel Boman and company's Studio Barnhus imprint. "Palm Trees Love" has a little more lazy disco flavour, with glistening guitars, snappy handclaps and a warm, dub-influenced bassline helping to create a particularly Balearic mood. There's an even more humid, South American feel to the choppy "Spring Ball", which is also turned into an hypnotic chunk of heads-down tech-house - complete with Batucada drums and intoxicating electronic noises - by remixer Simon Haydo.

This is house music like you've never heard before - loose, freaky, hippie, voodoo machine funk, highly infectious grooves for any modern dancefloor. 4. Einer Weniger - "People Do Silence" (part II) (7:01)
  5. Mono Mental - "El Piojo" (1:33)
Review: Operating out of Munich, Molten Moods hits its second release with another finely chiseled selection of artists that all help shape out the identity of this promising new label. Natan H brings a soulful electro lilt to "10 26" before Jonas Friedlich switches up the mood with the finely sliced oddball house confection of "Hapenis". On the B side it's a busy affair, with Jonas Yamer's "Downward Causation" delivering a slightly industrial shimmer to a subtly melodic techno framework in stark contrast to Einer Weniger's thoroughly mellow mantra "People Do Silence (Part II)". Then Mono Mental finishes proceedings off with a curious diversion into downtempo beatsmithery that works as a neat palette cleanser for an eclectic experience.

Review: True and proper underground deep house here for the real heads. Nathaniel X is back, making another EP full of soulful house anthems for the underground. ''Dr Vil'Kenstein & Monksta' X Bonus'' with its sampled symphonic arrangements over a tough beat are somewhat reminiscent of Andres ''New for U'', while ''Thee Illusionatti'' channels the spirit of Mr Fingers. On the flip is '' All In A Day's Work'' with its warm rolling bassline and more orchestral samples utilised well over the top. Lastly there is the most reassuring track title ever ''The Party's On The Way'' with its uplifting piano lead accompanied by powerful male vocals, reminiscent of the legendary Daryl Pandy.

Review: Given the runaway success of the recent reissue of DJ Nature's 1993 gem Necessary Ruffness Volume 1 - an early outing under the alternative Nature Boy alias that has long been regarded as a British deep house classic - it was inevitable that Volume Two would quickly follow. Like its predecessor, the EP is something of a cut-and-paste deep house treat, with the former Wild Bunch member wrapping vocal samples from classic disco, boogie and jazz-funk tunes around chunky, bass-heavy grooves. We're particularly enjoying the rolling late night pressure of "On Your Side", with its relentless bassline and fluttering Mystic Merlin samples, and the Dream II Science smoothness of "Relax Man", though the more disco-fired bounce of "Whatchusay (dubwize)" may well be the premier peak-time treat.

Review: There's plenty to admire on this tasty new EP from experienced Spaniard Kiko Navarro, a producer whose releases seem to get better with every passing year. He begins with the rolling deep house bounce of "Show You The Way", where a looped vocal sample and squeezable synthesizer motifs rise above a bouncy, classic David Morales style groove, before wrapping kalimba style melodies around a stomping jazz-house groove on "Everything Happens For a Reason". His love of vintage New York house surfaces on the bumpin' bliss of "Black is Back" - all cascading jazz guitar solos and urgent hip-hop vocal samples - whole "La Cosa" is a wonderfully percussive trip into Latin house territory.
