  1. Heal (8:29)
  2. Plight (8:27)
Review: From his appearances on Aesthetic Audio and Ornate through to his own Atmospheric Existence label, Miles Sagnia continues to be one of the best kept secrets of British deep techno, and that's no more apparent than on this stunning release for Common Dreams. There's a looped up insistence to "Heal", but it's offset by emotive movement in the synth lines and an overall spiritual quality that escapes much cyclical techno. "Plight" takes a slightly slower path, amping up the early UK electronica tones for an immersive experience shaped out by interlocking rhythms and snaking melodies. It's a truly classy statement that stays true to techno while saying something original.

  7. The Ubiquitous Entity (6:27)
  8. Silhouette Of A Semantic Memory (6:41)
Review: Surely one of the finest operators in the UK underground, Miles Atmospheric released his last album under his own name Miles Sagnia back in 2014, and now he finally returns to the long player format to unfurl his vision of deep, driving techno. This time he's appearing on Finale Sessions, and it's the perfect home for his thoughtfully sculpted cuts. There are more outwardly mellow moments such as "Mensura," and the utterly gorgeous "Peace," but there is also plenty of space afforded to the sharper end of his creative transmissions. "Elysium" is a dense, rippling throwdown that touches on many different aspects of contemporary house and techno, while "Rise" offers up a refreshing variation on the acid house template. Once again, Miles Atmospheric demonstrates why he's such a vital, if sometimes overlooked, force in the UK underground.

  1. Night Flight (8:34)
  2. Deep Think Straight Talk (6:51)
  3. OOT Jam (6:28)
  4. Medium Is The Message (5:41)
Review: Arthur Miles from Adelaide in Australia is next up on Seb Wildblood's new imprint named All My Thoughts. After a couple of releases for homeboys Untzz Twelve Inch, these four cuts of deep electronica are awesome. You would be forgiven for thinking that the title track is an ambient journey: it's just a long intro that you'd wish went for longer (it's so sublime) but then that deep boogie vibe comes creeping in with some serious cowbell action, '80's synth presets and glimmering arpeggios: it's all quite wonderful in all its neon lit glory. On the flip though, it's certainly all about the ambient house epic "O.O.T. Jam" featuring some celestial pads over its fiercely restrained breakbeat action: prepare to delve deep into the esoteric here!

  2. In Spring (feat Sky) (7:52)
  3. Can't Get Enough (instrumental mix) (8:08)
Review: The analogue love continues... Hot in pursuit of "All The Little Things", Detroit OG Alton Miller delivers more fresh soul. And we mean soul; "She Don't Want To Be" is an exquisite dreamy percussive house cut that sits somewhere between Faze-O and MAW. "In Spring" maintains the woozy daydream feel while shuffling up the groove into more of a party-minded affair while "Can't Get Enough" is pure, uncut Detroit house funk. Beyond authentic.

  3. Possibilities (Boddhi mix) (6:38)
  4. Between The Middle (7:57)
Review: Detroit deep house legend Alton Miller is back on his own Inner Muse imprint with the Possibilities EP. Originally released in 2007 on R2, the former Music Institute resident served up some deliciously soulful, sexy and emotive groves that you'd come to expect from this master. The broken beat nu-jazz of the title track accompanies Lady Linn's powerfully heartfelt vocals. This re-issue features two remixes; firstly by local John C. Briggs aka Zoetic who takes it down a deeper/chilled early evening fashion while the legendary Boddhi Satva steps up and delivers an epic futurist rendition that has seen this old school stalwart release on Innervisions previously; and it's that aesthetic featured heavily on this killer remix.

  1. Bring Me Down (9:32)
  2. Bring Me Down (Theo Parrish translation) (9:35)
Review: Here's something to get excited about: a cracking new cut from Detroit deep house legend Alton Miller, backed with a 'Sound Signature' translation from the equally revered Theo Parrish. Miller's version of "Bring Me Down", is something of a treat: a sparkling, starry deep house epic that's blessed with immaculate vocals from soul chanteuse Maurissa Rose. Parrish's translation is equally as stretched out and similarly enjoyable, but is far looser and dustier in feel, with warmer bass and beats that naturally tend towards the jazzier. It's naturally more in keeping with Parrish's work than Miller's, but retains enough of the latter's touches to be counted as a fine remix.

Review: Miltiadis Merentitis is one of the greatest exponents of the underground Greek scene. After several releases on Nous, Echovolt and Synapsis he joins Jose Rico's Spanish imprint Freebeat with the Epitome Of Things EP. Miltiades explores the driest of territories through his characteristic chords, kicks and percussion which will transport you to another world. Take the first cut on the A side for instance: a deep hypnotic techno cut that creates perfect trance induction by relying on the most basic of analogue elements. On the flip, the second track is a gothic lo-fi house jam reminiscent of New York City's Patricia while the final offering channels the spirit of early '90's Detroit on this fine serving of hi-tech soul.

Review: Minimono strikes back this time on new born italian label Greentech joined by a remix by neverthelss than Mr Paul Johnson. This 4 tracker starts with the raw filter house banger track named "Boogie" , follwed by "Follow Me" a dirt dry funk house jam. On the B side we find the deeper and rawer vintage roller "The Difference" followed by the percussive ghetto interpretattion of "Boogie" by Paul Johnson. Solid Ep for the 1st release of Greentech Music.

  1. Oldest Friend

  3. Some Day
  4. Eleven Days
Review: After first appearing on the label back in 2016, Florence-based Italo house stalwarts Minimono return to Vibraphone with another selection of illustrious dancefloor gems for subtler moments in the dance. "Oldest Friend" is an airy, dreamlike track laden with upper register chords, tones and FX pinging around in a reverie of deep house delight, while "Questions" gets locked into a loose, swinging groove with some mysterious pads swirling around the middle distance for added atmosphere. "Some Day" is a more rugged affair that bumps and wriggles in all the right places, while "Eleven Days" explores broken beat territory without losing the hazy atmosphere that permeates the EP.

Review: Ant Plate's Vinyl Only ventures continue unabated, taking a break from the Yse Saint Laur'ant releases and turning to Minus The Majors instead. Whether it's just Plate in another one of his guises or not is unclear, but the music certainly fits in with the more exploratory, downtempo nature of previous Vinyl Only releases. "He Looked" is an especially funky number that revolves around crafty beats and warm Moog-esque synth ripples. Things get more broken on "Jizz Jazz", and then "Drongo" manages to go even further out to sea in its quest for the perfect balance between funk and freakiness.

  4. You Are Your Art
Review: Ricardo Miranda's "Urbanism" will be familiar to those smart minds out there who indulged in last year's illuminating Rick Wilhite curated Rush Hour comp Vibes New & Rare Music. Sensing the potential for further exploration, Noble Square embellish the gliding utopian ode to Chicago with two new remixes whilst also slipping in an all new Miranda production for good measure. Miranda himself remixes the track as part of the collaborative Chiba project with Argentinean Hernan Cronner which realigns the track down an overtly muggy outer galactic Detroit electro path, with urgent stabs matched by the relentless march of drum machines in full effect. In contrast, Eargasmic's Daryl Cura opts for a subaqueous rattle, with the swathes of emotive chords on an upwards bent - furthermore the gradual interweaving of a hypnotic synth wiggle truly impresses!

  1. Do You Want Me (7:20)
  2. The DJ Knows What I Like (9:32)
Review: Noble Square celebrates its 10 year anniversary with a repress of Chicago's Ricardo Miranda & K Joy's 2011 EP. This 12" features the dusty, deep and soulful blues of "Do You Want Me" which is in the vein of masters like Nick Holder and Kenny Dixon Jr. On the flip we have the dirty late night acid jack of "The DJ Knows What I Like" featuring squeaky synths, rusty rhythm patterns and Joy's sultry come hither vocals. According to the label, 'the original master reels were lost so the YONURICAN SOUL Brotha made all new music.' Noble Square Recordings is a showcase of memorable dance music that seeks to stay grounded in the strong foundation of Chicago's roots. A foundation that includes many forms/styles of underground music, but without the burden of useless labels. Noble Square presents 'not only sonic love but also sonic statements.'

Review: Animals On Psychedelics snaps up a debut appearance from Miro Sundaymusiq for its second release, delving further into the label's mission statement of "the more tripped out, spacey side of electronic music." Miro opens up proceedings with "This Is Not Butter Carolin", a twinkling roller with subtle disco undertones and a cheeky nod to electro rubbed into the rhythm. So far, so psychedelic. "Creamy Dreams" is no slouch in the cosmic department either, loaded with bubbling arpeggios aimed skywards and using a sprightly set of drums to help the mellifluous tones along.

Review: Altered Moods Recordings makes its first artist foray into Asia, more specifically, it sets its sights on Nagano, Japan, where it finds a fertile and quickly expanding underground scene and one of its key players, Yoshiki Tsuchiya, also known as Miruga. Miruga has made a big splash in his relatively short arc as an underground artist. He came out strong in 2012 with "Human Tube" on Anton Zap's bellwether Ethereal Sound label after a full-length digital album on Logos Recordings two years prior. The Ethereal Sounds release brought V/A opportunities on Statik Entertainment, Rawthenticity, and Badance, as well as a guest appearance on Keith Worthy's worldly Aesthetic Audio label with "The Unusual Suspects, Vol. 1." It's that connection that was the clicher for us to sign him - not because of that label's notoriety, but because of how well Miruga attends to his craft.

  4. Tempelhof Kite (Kito Jempere remix)
Review: Hailing from Lithuanian capital Vilnius, Miskotom appears on Pleasure Unit for a debut appearance that should appeal to all lovers of delicate, pop flecked house with a smooth 80s veneer. The production is perfect for the mood of the music, with the dusty groove of the title track embellished with Eastern flute motifs and Larry Heard chords of the sweetest melancholy. "Downtown" meanwhile revels in slap bass finery, and "Tempelhof Kite" gets a rubbery Moog tone in the low end that offsets the woozy pads beautifully. Kito Jempere comes on board for a remix that dubs "Tempelhof Kite" down into a warm and sexy house cut of the highest order.

Review: The second release on Tadd Mullinix's Bopside label introduces Brandon Mitchell, a local Michigan-based artist who has previously worked alongside the producer under the rapper alias Kadence. Back in 2006, Mitchell featured on two tracks Mullinix recorded as Dabrye for the Two/Three album released by Ghostly International, whilst the Michigan man has also been experimenting with pop music under the Barefoot Sneaker Slaves name. As far as we can tell, Waiting For A Minute looks to be Mitchell's debut release under his given name, offering two undeniably soulful house tracks written and produced with Mullinix. Proper effervescent US vocal House business this, great stuff.

Review: The Mixtapers are an Italian band focused on a dynamic, live funk and hip hop sound. Following an appearance on Sonar Kollektiv last year with the We So Good 12", they've been chosen to inaugurate Bakerboy's Agnis Music label with this effervescent EP. The title track on Sun Metaphors uses blissful Rhodes keys as the focal point for a sunkissed slice of vocal deep house, while "Smokey Reflection" takes a more punchy approach to the drums while maintaining the woozy mood. "Trinity" kicks off the B-side with some squelchy electro funk stylings, and then Sara Lima lends her vocal tones to downtempo cruiser "Stay (Away From Me)".

Review: There was something quietly impressive about the first release from Chicago-based label Sovreign State, an EP of dusty experiments and quirky journeys into sound that started appearing in stores back in May 2016. This follow-up, produced by the previously unknown Miki Miyoshi, is similarly promising. Peppered with field recording style interludes ("CTA Redline Subway", 'Senri Chuo Osaka Subway"), and even cuts whose rhythms are built on freight train samples (the hulking but rather good "Freight Train (Empty Stomach Edit)", Distant Memories is an eccentric but rather good collection. Our picks include the ultra-deep, post-electro shuffle of "Unspoken Message", the clanking techno wooziness of "PIN", and the Mood Hut-goes-to-Detroit warmth of "Dreamy Track 1615".

Review: Moca skirted around the house music underground back at the turn of the century, never quite finding fame but over the years amassing the cult status that comes with highly sought-after records. Now this mysterious producer makes their return with a fresh two-tracker that builds on the legacy of the old records while offering something new. The A side is given over to "Baku," a lean, tracky jam that comes to life with some mellow chords pitched directly at the warm up. On the B side "Return" keeps the same principles of stripped-back beats at the heart of the matter, but makes great use of an arpeggiating synth to sprinkle some colour across the track.

Review: Tabernacle have an enviable instinct for visionary talents in the well-ploughed field of purist machine-powered techno and house, and their various artist releases can be a goldmine for new names to add to your watch list. So it goes on this latest transmission, kicking off with the dusty Chicago house styles of Models Over 18 before switching stance drastically to the splayed out tonal investigations of Paradize. Bitch & Bites are equally subversive, shirking dancefloor demands to apply classic techno motifs to a fractured but ultimately inviting strain of hardware-honed techno. That leaves it to Bouhouz to round the EP off with a gentle murmur of synth patterns carefully composed for a spiritual, subliminal end result.
