  1. Intro
  2. Safran (feat Dakota)
  3. Jazz E (with Guilhem Monin - feat Leonardo Milano De Cuba)
  4. Shrine
  5. Jammin (with Guilhem Monin)
Review: With previous form on Colors and Love Fever, Remi Mazet returns on relatively new label Social Joy with a deep and refined trip through house music as played by a true musician. There's a dusky, cinematic quality to the whole EP, from the captivating intro to the sweet Rhodes soul of "Safran" and on to the broken wheeze of "Jazz E". "Shrine" has a more forthright club-ready veneer, while "Jammin" brings furthermore machine-oriented grooves, but at all times the devil is in the details, and this record is most devilish indeed. One for all those craving a little more subtlety and flair in their house music.

Slick Maneuver (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: JCKBRWN 005. Rel: 27 Nov 17
  1. Shocked
  2. Run Sally Run!
  3. Slick Maneuver
  4. Perfection Valley
Review: After four volumes of smoking hot disco house business from El Nino, Jackie Brown turn their attention to debutant producer MB22, who understands the party-starting manifesto of the label intrinsically. "Shocked" kicks the record off in a flurry of heated chops and licks, all driven by a nagging hat, and then "Run Sally Run" switches stance to a winsome 80s tinged electro jam, tape-hiss included. "Slick Maneuver" takes things into smooth, boogie-indebted territory and then "Perfection Valley" rounds the record off with the kind of dusty electro funk that Moon B made his name with.

  1. Way Back (6:32)
  2. Star Night (6:51)
  3. Rising High (5:28)
Review: Boogie Cafe is a joint venture between DJs and producers Jimmy The Twin and Alex. Here they present three cuts of lush house music from Sean McCabe. Based in Bristol, he heads up the Good Vibrations imprint, so those that are in the know certainly can expect some deep, soulful and uplifting vibes from the man here. Opening cut "Way Back" channels a familiar spirit, whether it's that of legends of 2000 Black or NDATL it's good either way. It's life affirming house music we know that much. On to the flipside, where the emotive late night mood lighting of "Star Night" will captivate with with its soothing Mr Fingers style house organs and chill beats. Finally, there's some variety on "Rising High" again channelling the early noughties nu-jazz broken beat of Bugz In The Attic et al.

I Wonder (12")
Cat: GVMV 001. Rel: 25 Apr 18
  1. I Wonder (Louie Vega Roots mix) (10:06)
  2. I Wonder (7:46)
  3. I Wonder (Sean Nostalgic dub) (5:43)
Review: Sean McCabe initially launched Good Vibrations a few years ago as a regular party in Bristol, with the assistance of local soulful house legend Deli G. This 12" marks the debut of the freshly minted offshoot label and sees McCabe join forces with regular collaborator Nathan Adams. Predictably, it's another superb slice of dancefloor soul music, with Adams' impeccable vocal a snug fit with McCabe's skipping drums, sumptuous Rhodes chords and bubbly electronic bassline. Arguably even better is Louie Vega's ten-minute Roots Mix, which replaces some of McCabe's electronics with more traditional instrumentation for an even richer and warmer dancefloor experience. McCabe's Nostalgic Dub, complete with fresh paino and synth solos, is also superb.

  3. Johnny Rampin’ - "Love Who Rocks You" (6:46)
  4. Brian ‘Keys’ Tharme - "Best Of Your Love" (feat Memzee) (6:57)
Review: Albuquerque's finest deep house bastion is at it once again, presenting a pure and proud brand of NJ-flavoured deep house for those who still want it soulful. Sean McCabe doesn't need telling twice, kicking off the People's Choice 12" with the uplifting funk of "Get Together". Soul2Black offers up an exquisite broken beat confection laden with deft piano work and stirring vocals from Kimberley Kennedy. Johnny Rampin' is aiming straight for the peak of the night with the peppy vibes of "Love Who Rocks You", and brian 'Keys' Thame turns the garage swing up to 11 with the utterly sassy "Best Of Your Love".

Cat: LHR 16. Rel: 04 Sep 17
  1. Vilaroel
  2. Dissfreq
  3. Carrier
  4. Guda (feat Voltery)
Review: Little is known about Medicis, other than he last appeared back in 2015 on Lazare Hoche alongside Voltery. On this, his second 12", he strikes out on his own for the Parisian deep house stable with some of that refined, head-tweaking groove fodder that has broadly defined the label since it started. "Vilaroel" features shimmering tones that call to mind Point G at his dubbiest, while "Dissfreq" takes a sweeter route into dreamy pads and lightly shuffling drums. "Carrier" is a darker, techier affair with plenty of hypnotic elements spinning in the mix, and then Mdecisi' old friend Voltery lands a hand on the downtempo delights of "Guda".

"The king's Instinct" pays respect to MLK with one of the most complementary backdrops his speech has ever enjoyed. 4. Queen Of Tacos (with FYI Chris) (5:38)
Review: Having spent the last 12 months sharpening his disco credentials via a variety of re-edit EPs and sample-heavy "secret weapons", Medlar is back on Wolf doing what he does best. In this case, that means sparse, drum machine driven electro/proto house fusion ("Cascinari"), delay-heavy, stripped-back analogue house blessed with dreamy chords and grime style lo-fi synth-strings ("Nisantasi") and Ruf Dug style dancefloor sweetness seemingly created using forgotten old synthesizers, dusty drum machines and a solitary TB-303 ("Priet"). Excitingly, the EP's final track - a bustling fusion of beatbox electro rhythms, layered breakbeats, heavy bass and yearning chords - is a studio hook-up with similarly well-regarded producer FYI Chris.

The compilation was released for free via Moxie's Soundcloud page in January 2016, and was met with rave reviews and radio support from the likes of Benji B, Gilles Peterson, Annie Mac and Toddla T. This sampler features 3 tracks taken from the compilation and an exclusive Dub of Medlar's 'In Dreams,' the original of which was a highlight on the compilation.

  1. Untitled (4:19)
  2. Untitled (Happa remix) (6:18)

  4. OTTHP (6:36)
Review: Producer Joe Deamer dons the Medrea guise for the very first time, in the process notching up the fifth release on the hyped Hokkaido Dance Club imprint. Deamer's style is, like many modern deep house and techno producers, simultaneously lo-fi and melodious, as the attractively swinging opener "Untitled" makes abundantly clear. His rich and rolling original version is given the remix treatment by Church and PT/5 regular Happa, who turns it into a wild chunk of left-field house full of discordant 8-bit melodies and off-kilter rhythms. Over on side B, Deamer delivers a jeweled goblet of liquid deep house ("Untitled 2"), before working his drum machines hard on the distorted, L.I.E.S style throb of "OTTHP".

Review: Second in the Hors series of the French Label Recordeep courtesy of Thomas Vital aka Meemo. Deep and loopy disco house in the vein of Robsoul on offer here, as heard on the dynamic opener "Tube Ride". "Groove S" offers up something much more fierce on this tough tech house tool with truly hypnotic chords that must be heard to be believed. On the flip is final offering "The Route" an emotive house journey full of lush keys, dusty rhythms and a persistent groove beneath all its smoky and hazy aesthetic.

Cat: 3FM 003. Rel: 03 Nov 16
  1. Healer (5:14)
  2. Story (5:48)
  3. Time Can Tell (6:35)
Review: When it comes to hazy, soft-focus deep house, few can beat the fabulously named Melchior Sultana. The Maltese producer is something of an old hand at this kind of thing, with a drowsy, sun-kissed discography that stretches right back to the early 2000s. "Healer", the track that opens his latest outing, is vintage Melchior: all unfussy beats, twinkling Rhodes keys, ocean-deep pads and lazy, hammock-friendly vocals. He subtly doffs a cap to Floating Points' early deep house material via the fluid synthesizer solos, undulating synth-bass and rolling grooves of "Story", before upping the tempo a little on the similarly sunny closer, "Time Can Tell".

  2. Timeless (Dean Demanuele remix) (6:32)
  3. The Message (6:13)
  4. I'm Serious (4:27)
Review: Melchior Sultana is back on his own Profound Sound with another cascading celebration of sheer musicality and sunkissed dancefloor dreams for sunsets that never end. If "Timeless" doesn't transport you to a balmy, carefree state of mind then you should probably see a doctor - every inch of yearning synth, guitar, bass and beat is tenderly engineered for pure escapism. "The Message" has a similarly rich sound bank, but it adopts a duskier mood that ever so slightly edges towards the club instead of the terrace. "I'm Serious" skips past the peak of the night and beckons you straight through to the after party - equal parts seduction and wind down for dancers with the Mediterranean sun in their soul.

  4. Give It To The Moon (4:24)
Review: Melchior Sultana has not been short of labels to release on over the past few years, from deepArtSounds and Three Fingers Musique to Minuendo and 12Records, but here he can be found inaugurating the Profound Sound label with some of his trademark deep house tones. "Feel This" is a shimmering, nocturnal groover with mystery to match its subtle funkiness, while the live edit of "Give It To The Moon" has an easier vibe about it with its lingering, warm pads and breezy swing. "Treasures" shakes things up with a jazz funk twist, letting effervescent instrumentation flirt around the crooked house beat with stunning results and then the slow, sensual original version of "Give It To The Moon" cradles the remaining run time of the EP in a downtempo haze of easy beats and stirring vocals.

  3. Places We Belong To
Review: The last few years have seen Nathan Melja really hit his stride, landing on such esteemed labels as Mister Saturday Night, Black Opal and Technicolour with an addictively weird update of the classic boxjam format. Now he steps up to inaugurate Dream Real with three slices of upfront deviant business for all the sleazy dancers out there. There's no arguing with the rubbery bass tones and perfectly processed vocals on the original mix of "Jerky Teardrop", but there's also the more wave-minded delights of the "Blue Mix" version of the track to suit more reflective situations. By way of contrast, "Places We Belong To" smooths out the mood on the B-side with a low riding slice of boogie that sports just a whiff of indie thrown in for good measure.

  4. S Channel - "Opel Mantra" (2:54)
Review: There's rather a lot going on throughout this admirably varied four-tracker from the Blorp camp. Take Magma's on-point opener, "Regional Transit", for example: it begins as a straight-up bouncy techno slammer, before morphing into a saucer-eyed, breakbeat-driven tribute to the early days of British rave midway through. The track that follows, Jeremy Meeks' "New Korea", is a dreamy, languid and pleasingly melodic chunk of rolling retro-futurist deep house bliss, while T Margoss's contribution, "5222" brilliantly joins the dots between deep space acid house and no-nonsense techno. In this context, the metallic, post hip-hop beats and aqueous riffs of S Channel's "Opel Mantra" make perfect sense.

Review: New York-based Evan Michael has been spotted on some respectable labels in the past, from Drumpoet Community to AirDrop, most recently appearing alongside Marco Passarani on a split 12" for Cin Cin. He makes his first appearance on the ever-prolific Hudd Trax with this diverse grip of deep house jams, leading in with the emotive tones of "Duende". "PCH Passing" is a fluttering affair laden with sweet natured synths, but it also knows when to rain the cascading melodies in to let the groove take the lead. "Machine Pepper" builds up around an on-point bassline and powerful brass stabs, and then "Rainmaker" finishes the EP off with some tricksy delay use and a crooked beat.

He is one half of Turner St Sound, in addition to being a member of the local Loose Joints collective. He serves up the label's seventh release which is the Refresco EP. It features four cuts of late night deep house that are as smooth and sultry as you like it. As heard on the title track and the emotive nu-jazz of "Terme" (reminiscent of early Atjazz) rounding up the A side. On the flip, we have the slo-mo, neon-lit boogie down jam that is "Hydra" brining this fine EP to a close.

Review: Arthur Miles from Adelaide in Australia is next up on Seb Wildblood's new imprint named All My Thoughts. After a couple of releases for homeboys Untzz Twelve Inch, these four cuts of deep electronica are awesome. You would be forgiven for thinking that the title track is an ambient journey: it's just a long intro that you'd wish went for longer (it's so sublime) but then that deep boogie vibe comes creeping in with some serious cowbell action, '80's synth presets and glimmering arpeggios: it's all quite wonderful in all its neon lit glory. On the flip though, it's certainly all about the ambient house epic "O.O.T. Jam" featuring some celestial pads over its fiercely restrained breakbeat action: prepare to delve deep into the esoteric here!

Review: Detroit deep house legend Alton Miller is back on his own Inner Muse imprint with the Possibilities EP. Originally released in 2007 on R2, the former Music Institute resident served up some deliciously soulful, sexy and emotive groves that you'd come to expect from this master. The broken beat nu-jazz of the title track accompanies Lady Linn's powerfully heartfelt vocals. This re-issue features two remixes; firstly by local John C. Briggs aka Zoetic who takes it down a deeper/chilled early evening fashion while the legendary Boddhi Satva steps up and delivers an epic futurist rendition that has seen this old school stalwart release on Innervisions previously; and it's that aesthetic featured heavily on this killer remix.

  1. Bring Me Down (9:32)
  2. Bring Me Down (Theo Parrish translation) (9:35)
Review: Here's something to get excited about: a cracking new cut from Detroit deep house legend Alton Miller, backed with a 'Sound Signature' translation from the equally revered Theo Parrish. Miller's version of "Bring Me Down", is something of a treat: a sparkling, starry deep house epic that's blessed with immaculate vocals from soul chanteuse Maurissa Rose. Parrish's translation is equally as stretched out and similarly enjoyable, but is far looser and dustier in feel, with warmer bass and beats that naturally tend towards the jazzier. It's naturally more in keeping with Parrish's work than Miller's, but retains enough of the latter's touches to be counted as a fine remix.

  1. All The Little Things (8:32)
  2. All The Little Things (Reedub) (8:10)
  3. All The Little Things (Patrice Scott mix) (7:19)
Review: Following his well-received 12" comeback "Analog Love" last year comes another sterling composition from Detroit veteran Alton Miller with the honeyed dulcets of singer Ree who comes on a strong like a young Amp Fiddler over Miller's restrained smooth chords. Flip for an immense immersive Reedub where the vocals become sweet textures in a more freeform organ-led jam before fellow Detroiter Patrice Scott closes the show with a deep and dreamy refix. All the little things are adding up right here.
