  4. U$b Schtick & Turnt Burial (9:08)
Review: Madteo is not praised enough for his contribution to the modern dance sound. The Italian-born NYC 'insider', as he likes to call himself, has put out less music over the last 2-3 years, clearly preferring to keep himself out of the scene. But, this doesn't come as a surprise to us seeing as he's always resided on the outskirts of what looms in the dance circles. Scientrysts lands on his own imprint, M.A.D.T.E.O., and the release sees the producer head back to his shift club mode, a sound which was first championed by Rabih Beaini's Morphine Doser. "Scientrysts & Errorist" gets 2 mixes, the 'Stomp' version bangs out heavy drums over hazy, echoing sonics, while the 'Club' mix picks up the pace and lays down a handsome portion of dusty percussion. On the flip, "U$b Schtick & Turnt Burial" lands with the minimal hardware fuzz of the 'Psy' mix first, before delivering a sparse selection of bass waves on the original cut. The boss is back to his best...

  3. Synths Of Jupiter (Chmmr remix) (6:13)
  4. Mirepoix (5:10)
Review: There's predictably plenty to enjoy on the latest outing from synthesizer-obsessed Norwegian Magnus Sheehan, whose 2016 debut album, Echo to Echo, was something of an overlooked gem. He begins in confident mood with the jacking and mind-altering throb of "Fluted Oval", before mixing typical Scandolearic dreaminess with glistening, Chris Lowe style melodies on the standout "Julienne". It's arguably the nearest he's come for a while to matching the rush-inducing bliss of debut single "Kosmetisk". Elsewhere, "Mirepoix" is a wonderfully angular chunk of muscular (or possibly modular) machine funk, while Chmmr's remix of "Synths of Jupiter" is an orgasmic fusion of boogie synths and saucer-eyed Balearic disco grooves.

  6. Giammarco Orsini - "Locked Groove"
Review: Elephant Moon hits us with a super dope batch of new music this Spring. The new release is a collection of music from several different artists and demonstrates the diversity of the label’s output. Across four brand new tracks we’re presented with smooth grooves, odd, whimsical sound design and dynamic dance floor rollers.

Things start off tentatively with Italian Rinaldo Makaj’s ‘Quasar’, a dreamy soundscape which envelopes you in its lush rhythms and deep, meditative bassline. Josh Tweek’s ‘Coffee Curves’ shares side A with ‘Quasar’, though the atmosphere is totally different. Confused robotic bleeps and effects pop up throughout, seemingly out of sync with the percussion while a sombre b-line rumbles below.

On the flip side we have ‘Oulton Road’ by Christian AB. A vibey cut, which encapsulates all that is great about the deeper end of house music; measured, emotive and utterly danceable. Accompanying ‘Oulton Road’ is ‘Element Of Lights’ by Gianmarco Orsini, a bouncing dance floor-ready slice of 4x4 rudeness . Each side includes 1 bonus locked groove from John & Giammarco :)

There you go, four distinct styles from four skilled artists. Look out for the V/A in all good record shops!

  3. Feelin' Good (5:11)
Review: Jordan Alexander's Mall Grab alias has provided nothing but goodness since his first EP in 2015, and he's released a staggering amount of material just over a year. Releases for stables like 1080p, Church and Unknown To The Unknown haven't gone unnoticed from us, and we now await his next moves with high expectations. Thankfully, he hasn't let us down with this new pack of bangers for Hot Haus, with the opener "I Just Wanna" mashing up harsh Chicago house with a little bit of disco sensibility. An instant hit. Flip to the B-side and you're presented with the off-kilter groove that is "Kalumbo", whereas "Feelin' Good" takes more of a traditional house approach to flap its ghetto-ass wings. An excellent little tip, this!

  3. Eyes (4:33)

Review: 2015 has been a productive year thus far for Mall Grab, with impressive releases to his name on Gold Nite and NES. Here he pops up on the brand new Collect Call imprint with yet more deep and spacey dancefloor business. With its' delay-laden spoken word samples, rolling organs and bouncy low-end warmth, lead cut "Feel U" is something of a groovy delight. He goes even deeper on the interspace broken techno vibes of "Guap", before exploring Vancouver style pads and stuttering, dusty rhythms on "Eyes". Best of all, though, is "Osaka", whose raw drum patterns and throbbing bassline offer a neat contrast to Mall Grab's heady melodies and evocative chords.

Review: Jordan Alexander's been rinsing it under his Mall Grab moniker, and every release since his debut back in 2015 has been hotly tipped by us here at Juno towers. EP's for Church, 1080p and Collect-Call have now earned him a spot on Unknown To The Unknown, one of our favourite labels and surely one of the most diverse, too. "I've Always Like Grime", as the name implies, is a house track made by someone who listened to high doses of Crazy Titch and Plastician back in the day, but "Black Palms" does its best to distance itself from the UK thanks to some pretty nasty acid bumps, and "Menace II Society" heads to Chicago with its singular vocal sample and dusty house flex. Sick!

  1. Luz (original) (6:09)
  2. Luz (Christian S remix) (6:25)
  3. Luz (Aerea Negrot remix) (6:52)
Review: The underground house queen of Southamerica Mamacita is releasing her first 12'' EP "Luz" on new Stockholm label Klack Records.

"Luz" is a collaboration with argentinian house producer Fer MariNo. Recorded between Rosario, Santiago and Stockholm and produced by Klack's Gonzalo Vargas, the result is a romantic yet murderous sonic utopia where women rule the warehouse and spanish remains the lingua franca in its darkest corners, as she sings "Soy mas que la luz; voy donde quiero y con quien quiero" (I'm beyond the lights; I go wherever I want to, with whomever I want to.)

The remix by Cologne's Christian S from Comeme delivers a solid blending of classy drum machinery in perfect symbiosis with that hot, hypnotic bassline that's a trademark of the original while Bpitch Control's diva Aerea Negrot reinvents the structure and the harmonies turning its elements into a wider, fully detailed club extravaganza.

Review: Man Power has proven on many occasions to be adept at all manner of different moods within the hardware house canon, but on this occasion he's particularly focusing on creating an exotic feeling out of mechanical means. "Tropical Bastard" is a fitting title for this project for Not An Animal Records, with the original steeped in driving patterns of rhythm and melody that approximate a flavour of far flung lands while mutating the feeling into something more club-minded. Lord Of The Isles goes one step further with a remix that ramps the modulation up to devilishly wonky levels. "Tropical Bastard 2" is an entirely different beast that plays on a cinematic vision of tropical escape, but with an acid thread pulsing through it. Then the Frank Butters remix finishes the EP off with a more submerged, but equally mischievous take.

Review: Earlier this year, Man Power briefly returned to his former home, Newcastle, to make some more music with his former Last Waltz colleagues. ESP Institute boss Lovefingers was impressed by the resultant tracks and here gives them a deserved release. A-side "Tistish" is a thrillingly wonky and intoxicating affair, with exotic synthesizer melodies, bustling Italo-disco style arpeggios and fuzzy, modular style electronics joining forces to create a mind-altering dancefloor mood (think Moscoman or Red Axes covering the original 1988 version of the KLF's "What Time Is Love" whilst high on acid). Arguably even better is sleazy flipside "Nee Shitteru", where ritualistic tribal drums and ragged analogue bass create a feverish and humid mood.

Review: Mandar are back on Oscillat Music following their stunning five-disc LP from last year, and the deep house super group are sounding as vital as ever. "String Theory" holds court over the A side and promises to be the soundtrack to many a heart-stirring moment under starry skies this summer. The titular strings are a powerful force in this track, bringing a classy brand of emotion to the slinky dancefloor tones Mandar are best known for. "Poisoned Worlds" is a deeper club cut that places the emphasis on crafty drum science for after hours crew, providing a neat balance to the show-stopping tones of the A side.

Review: Fresh from 96! Club U Nite returns for the first time in 18 years with some impeccable US garage vibes. "Down On Me" is a celebration of one of garage's most golden moments. All warm bass, jazzy organs and an insatiable chugging rhythm, it's so good it stretches across two versions. "In A Jazzy Mood" is a previously unreleased sprightly jacker that lives up to its name consummately while "Somewhere" twinkles with a deep, restrained touch. Sweet shuffles all-round, this is a re-launch worth paying attention to.

Review: Manmade DeeJay (real Name Mathias Okholm) is a DJ and producer from Aarhus that is pretty connected to the local scene - as a member of Regelbau and Maizena with local fellows C.K., Natal & Milan Zaks and Central. He runs No Hands with some of the aforementioned, and on its fourth release, Okholm serves up some classic deep house goodness - inspired by the early sounds of Chicago. From the soulful Windy City bounce of "Viper" on the A side, to the emotive ambient house of "Juli" on the flip - there's a bit of variety via the fierce, early noughties tech house shuffle of Saturna IX" which we particularly enjoyed.

  4. Same Old Clown (KON dub)
Review: Chico Mann and Kendra Morris combine sublimely on the Same Old Clown 12" through Soundway which is a thrilling taster of what's to come on Magical Thinking, the multi instrumentalist's third solo LP. Whilst the Antibalas guitarist has remained close to his Afrobeat roots on previous long players for Wax Poetics and Kindred Spirits, his new album is said to offer a more expansive portrayal of Chico's tastes taking in latin, freestyle, funk and boogie and "Same Old Clown" certainly suggests this is a rewarding approach. Mann's classic squelching 80s electro funk arrangement is the perfect backdrop for Kendra's slinky vocals and the accompanying remixes from Linkwood and Kon only serve to show her range, with the Firecracker man's boogie house update our personal favourite here at Juno.

Review: Italian producer Enrico Mantini has been his thing for longer than most, with releases reaching back to the early 90s when deep house was first surging in popularity in Italy. This new label Purism opens up with Mantini showing off his years of experience via some warm, undulating tracks that should sit comfortably with any lover of true deep house. "Inner Heights" is as laid back as they come, harmonious and buttery synths oozing over gentle machine beats. "4 Strings Love" is a peppier affair with a bumping rhythm and dubby melodic touches, and then "Unparalleled Consistency" strips everything back to a minimal core, showcasing the range within Mantini's learned palette.

Review: The Purism label has already worked plenty with Enrico Mantini, but this time he's brought a friend along to help represent the Bologna-based team. Flavio Vecchi sounds right at home co-steering "Try To Get Out Of This", a devastatingly simple and deadly deep cut for heavy lidded house heads to get lost in the smoke machine to. Whether early in the evening or very very late, this is a big tune. "What U Do To Me" finds Nudge opening up the B side with a dreamy breakbeat house flavour for the after party crowd, and then "Dub Vandalo" maintains the stripped back but utterly punchy approach that makes this whole record so damn effective.

Review: Barcelona's Polybius Trax: acid sounds in different styles. This time around they have called upon one of the true warriors of the 303 underground in the form of Craig Stainton. The veteran producer has created retro flavoured jams under aliases such as Acid Phreex, Craig Monofonix and Myriadd with York's Perseus Traxx since 2005, on labels as diverse as Djax Up Beats and The Bunker. Starting off the with hyper aware Roland squelch of "The Seventh Seal" and reduced jack DJ tool "Get That" which works that old vintage drum machine like a you know what. On the flip, he provides some tunnelling peak time warehouse arsenal in the form of "Mindstream" while "In Flux" takes it cues as much from the naughty Windy City style of booty-house as much as it does from the classic Phuturist strains - and there's some pretty epic use of glide and resonance in this particular little gem.

Pure technoid body-jacking acid house business "Flange Trax" chat discourse erotically, "Freq Trak" slaps with relentless ghetto aggression while "Trof Trak" takes us on more of an off-beat dubby departure before stripping back to reveal a spine made of solid techno steel.
