  1. Track 1 (8:31)
  2. Track 2 (9:44)
  3. Track 3 (9:46)
  4. Track 4 (6:15)
Review: Two and a half years after the first mysterious Arktapes earth landing comes another from the unknown. Once again fully anonymous. Once again no title tracks included. Once again denting the techno landscape with its mischievous, hissing, jittering off-beat dubby playfulness. A total trip from the opening dubby ripples and funky Detroitian hi-hat twists of "Track 1" to the final shimmering echoes of the beatless wonder that is "Track 4".

The Future (12")
Cat: MC 017. Rel: 07 Feb 18
  1. The Future (4:55)
  2. The Future (Cajmere Vision - Luke Solomon Slight edit) (6:16)
Review: For their latest trip into house history, reissue specialists Mint Condition takes us back to 1996 and the TB-303 heavy world of Chicago legend Armando Gallop. "The Future" was originally included on the artist's One World One Future full-length, before going on to become his final single release before he passed away in December '96. As with many of his finest works, "The Future" is a ragged, acid-fuelled delight, with warehouse-friendly stabs and repeated vocal samples riding a sweaty, jacking groove. Turn to the flip for Luke Solomon's subtle re-edit of Cajmere's "Vision" rework, a lolloping and groovy affair that trims the acid lines in favour of denser bass, spacey chords and a superb vocal line ("I see the future", presumably sung by the remixer himself).

  1. Bacardi (5:16)
  2. Fourty Nine (8:29)
  3. Give You All My Love (5:26)
  4. Track 2 (6:15)
Review: That's right, folks, this ain't no reissue! When the names Chiwax and Robert Armani come together, heads instantly turn and think about what year the tunes might be from, but these four house killers are from late 2016, and it's clear that Armani has absolutely no intentions of slowing down any time soon. "BacardI" has the essence of golden era Armani, but there's something more subtle at play, an polished aesthetic that dives deeper into modern techno while retaining all of his original style and flair; the lead tune "Fourty Nine" reinvents the classic Chi-town sound and bursts through the place with a minimal sort of guise. Over on the B-side, "Give You All My Love" slams some hard-ass drums over a skeletal melodic rift and the man's classic use of repetitive vocal samples, which leaves "Track 2" to deliver that inimitable Armani acid...raw and uncompromising as when we first heard it. BIG!

  2. Heritage On The Sign (5:23)

Review: William Arnaldo Smith has released everywhere from Greta Cottage Workshop, Smallville and UntilMyHeartStops. We've heard the great effort that was the label's inaugural release entitled Good Music Hips, Bad Music Fists E.P. but he appears to have backdated this release as NATURIST 000. "Ceramics" displays the producer's usual 'airy' and organic deep house sound while "Heritage On The Sign" has faint Oriental aesthetics over its broken house beats and lush vintage synths. Finally on the flip is the breathtaking ambient journey "Sleeping Assault" full of splendid bell textures and emotive keys floating away in trails of endless reverb.

  3. Riddim (6:47)
  4. Jam The Dance (6:53)
Review: Lost In Time has laid down some killer 12"s to date from the likes of Ralph Lawson and Tuccillo, and now they welcome London-based scene staple Alex Arnout to the label with an on-point EP of explorative house music variations. "No Borders" features long time US house veteran Jovonn, and the pair whip up a tracky tech house roller with serious percussive pressure and a subtle lick of dub in the mix. "Downtown 500" is a rough and tough, bashy house jam with a fresh drum palette, and by contrast "Riddim" brings a straight up deep house vibe with classic organ licks aplenty, that almost sound like they should be the handiwork of Jovonn as well. "Jam The Dance" finishes the EP off with a twitchy house cut peppered with vocal slices.

  4. Arsy vs The Ferrari Orgy Death Crashs - "Sheep" (5:48)
Review: There is little about this second release from schaukel sublabel Laubenpiepers Finest that doesn't immediately capture your attention. The humorous artist name (Arsy), the odd EP title (I Deleted The Mach Kernel File Completely) and the King Kong riffing art work (if you indulged in LAUF 001 you may be noticing a theme) will separately or collectively draw the inquisitive minds out there to investigate further. If you are one of those, you will be rewarded with some wonderfully warm machine music that changes in tone from calm and relaxed to bouncy and insouciant from track to track. Final track "Sheep", a collaboration between Arsy and The Ferrari Orgy Death Crashs (a superb name) will delight those of a dubbier persuasion.

  1. Where The One Is (5:33)
  2. Double Wheelin' (5:33)
  3. Reprise De Fonk (5:45)
Review: "Where The One Is", the lead cut from Art of Tones' latest Local Talk release, sounds like a peak-time anthem in the making. Seemingly crafted using a mixture of cut-up Philadelphia soul samples, jammed-out new disco instrumentation and jazzy, ambidextrous house beats, it feels a little like a tooled-up, slightly more low-slung version of Blackjoy classic "Moustache". You'll find more low-slung, disco-fired, Clavinet-sporting heaviness on side B, where stomper "Double Wheelin" provides further guaranteed peak-time pressure. As for "Reprise Du Fonk", it appears to be a quick-fire dub of "Where The One Is" featuring even more elastic bass guitar, jazz-wise guitar licks and life-affirming electro piano solos.

  1. Inna Parte (6:19)
  2. X Ray Shit (5:41)
  3. Wiggle Eyez (5:19)
Review: The second release of the month from Arttu sees him draw again on classic house and techno influences. The title track draws on the reduced end of Chicago house, with frequency-shifting acid tones unraveling over pared back kettle-drums. "Wiggle Eyez" marks a change of tact and is similar to the release on Jack for Daze, with the Berlin artist drawing heavily on the raw sound of 90s techno to craft a relentless, grinding analogue workout. Closing track "X Ray Shit" is like an amalgamation of these two sounds; based on rattling drums and acid-soaked bleeps, it proves that Arttu is one of the most skillful modern interpreters of timeless music.

Let Go Of This Acid (12") (1 per customer)
Cat: UNFINISHED 01. Rel: 06 Jun 18
  1. Let Go Of This Acid (7:23)
  2. Acid Lines (6:16)
Review: According to the accompanying press release, Magnetic Man member Artwork (AKA early dubstep pioneer Arthur Smith) spent three years trying to clear the vocal samples used on this EP. While many would have given up trying, Smith persisted - and eventually got agreements from all concerned - due to the fantastic response the track has been getting from DJ plays. Certainly, the track is something of a beast: a full-throttle TB-303 acid assault that not only boasts seriously mind-altering electronic hooks, but also some seriously sassy vocal snippets and a fantastic breakdown/drop combination. Equally as impressive is flipside "Acid Lines", whose familiar, echo-laden vocal refrain is probably the one that caused his lawyers most headaches. Naturally, it acts as the wiggly acid tune's main hook.

  3. Amsterdam (7:04)
Review: Lemmy Ashton made quite a splash with his first outing on his own TNC label last year, and now he's back to follow up with another salvo of premium heaters geared towards disco-friendly dancers. There's a chunky, looped up quality to "Silver Suitcase" with its insistent bass lick and slamming drums, but there's equal space for soul thanks to the string-loaded sample hook. By way of contrast "Lunaire" fires up the acid flare and heads straight into a babbling brook of 303-related goodness. "Amsterdam" rounds the EP off on a stomp, whipping up the kind of bombastic disco drama that would get Studio 54 moving were it in action today.

Cat: DW 009. Rel: 26 Jan 15
  1. Meat & Potatoes
  2. No Mo
Review: Assiduous presents their first vinyl release which is full of deep richness and undiluted soul. Side A contains heavy bass, synth stabs and a driving four to the floor beat that keeps the groove while a female vocal emerges later adding a bit of mysticism to the vibe on, "Meat And Potatoes". Side B brings to mind the sound of hard work in motion which is what the outfit, Assiduous is noted for. An aggressive deep house attribute that is also laced with a soulful female vocal that seems to stir up a spiritual overtone into the mix on, "No Mo".

Danza (12")

  1. Assis
  2. Lamento Castellano
  3. Danza
  4. Danza (Ital remix)
Review: Our favourite Catalonian imprint Hivern Discs invites us into the musical world of compatriots Aster, with the first of a trilogy of releases planned over the coming months. Much like the recent news that the mysterious Mistakes Are OK will have the honour of the first artist LP on Hivern, this trilogy of releases is a sign that the label is looking to move forward and engage in more ambitious projects as the global expectations around them swells. The three original tracks on Danza demonstrate the type of production idiosyncrasies that make Aster worthy additions to the Hivern family. On the opening track "Assis" for example, Aster playfully draws out hazy detuned synth tones and monk like chanting over vaguely militaristic beat patterns, whilst "Lamento Castellano" hints at their Mathematics past with thick globules of malfunctioning machine funk pulsing away over freeform drums. On the flip, the title track steers towards Larkin style swathes of Utopian sound gliding over recycled jack drums, and gets morphed into a burrowing base arrangement of thick low end and broken, clipping house rhythms by Planet Mu's Ital on a fine remix.

Review: Berlin deep house hero Glenn Astro returns, this time for Japan's Mule Musiq with four grooves that wear his distinct trademark all throughout: dusty, urban, hip-hop inspired jams that are all on a sampladelic tip. From the funky and swing-fuelled swagger of "Der Schummler Dub", the sexy, neon-lit late night shuffle of "Le Troisieme Oeilor" or the jagged and disorienting gallop of "Chubble Gum" - this could be Astro at his finest yet. In 2015, the 29 year old producer and DJ launched his own label: Money $ex Records, alongside Max Graef and Delfonic and also saw the release of his debut album Throwback on Tartelet Records. A collaborative album with Graef emerged in 2016 on Ninja Tune.

Now in conjunction with Record Store Day 2017, we have remastered originals and remixes alike on offer here with this limited version. The master Charles Webster works his magic as always on the truly deep and sublime rework of "Slide It In" which we didn't think could be beat in its original version. "Dark Slide" and "Ghost Spaces" appeared on the album version also, but hearing them here you truly realise just how timeless Iveson music really is.

Review: Rawax drop another stunner of a reissue and it's by none other than Uwe Schmidt aka Atom Heart! The Milagro EP was originally released in 1994 on Our Choice as a CD and on London's Rough Trade as a 12". However, the German imprint has done us the favour of saving a L100 price tag on the black market, and have even remastered the tracks from the original tapes. Gorgeous, deep house swelters from start to finish, each track sounding as fresh today as it did over twenty years ago in a sweaty basement club. We're particularly fond of "Opcaity" and its cavernous bassline - a truly cutting-edge affair!

  3. Two Thou - "SOL"
  4. Autre - "Futura"
Review: The Fields & Forest label has so far aligned itself with the stellar Russian label Udacha, featuring Dices, A5 and Cuisine Dub, but things are taking a turn into new territory with the inclusion of Autre and Two Thou with two tracks a piece on this new slab of wax. Two Thou's "Group Technology" is a snappily shaped, 80s influenced groover with some interesting timbres falling into a dynamic groove, while "SOL" shows another side to the artist with a snaking slice of jazz funk infused experimental techno. Autre's "Cosmic Roots" is a more esoteric, new age gilded slice of ambient house while "Futura" ramps up the saucy synths for a silk-tongued charmer of a warm-up jam.

Review: Concrete has been integral in the rebirth of Parisian clubbing culture, offering a unique 19 hour long party that begins early on Sunday and goes on and on in the picturesque setting of the Port De La Rapee on the River Seine. Looking to expand, this new Concrete Music label should operate as an extension of the party commencing with a series of three planned Textures releases inviting local talent and previous guests to contribute. Volume 1 inaugurates the label in style, brandishing original productions from the excellent Jared Wilson, Awanto 3 and Nsyde artist Samuel Andre Madsen as well as Parisian producer S3A (Sampling As An Art). "Sit On This" is a typically dusty slice of house from Awanto 3 which contrasts nicely with the percussion heavy classicist house of "The Ravist" by S3A and the deep acid of Jared Wilson. Madsen takes it deep and moody on "Waterwalking Paris" to end a superb and diverse debut release.

Review: While Amon "Aybee" Bazile rarely puts a foot wrong, there was arguably a time when his releases were a little too frequent to register with buyers. Thankfully, he's simmered down in recent years, seemingly content to just release the cream of his studio productions. Certainly, Nexus shows the producer at the top of his game. Check the deep and spacey hypnotism of "The Scroll", where dreamy chord progressions seemingly float around an analogue rich deep house groove, and the broken techno headiness of "Veger". Both bubble along at a house tempo, but draw huge influence from Motor City futurism. Perhaps best of all, though, is opener "In The", a rolling, bongo-laden saunter into life-affirming outer-space deep house blessed with a rich and warming bassline.

Review: Lars Bartkuhn has taken his rich jazz chops to many esteemed places over the years, from Sonar Kollektiv to Neroli, Needs Music to Ropeadope, and his expressive musical style merges perfectly with Aybee's cosmic electronic tendencies on this new Deepblak joint. "Passage (Full Experience)" is a broken beat wonder to behold, all swooning and swirling melodics and freewheeling rhythms. "Passage (Astral Stroll)" takes things deeper, letting the Rhodes lead the way amidst a pattering array of earthy percussion for a truly transcendental trip out. Deepblak's jazz instincts have never sounded so full of vitality as they do on this interstellar single.
