  1. Flaming Flamingo (7:21)
  2. Misty Funk (6:22)
  3. The Fine Line (5:12)
  4. The Fine Line (Nite Fleit remix) (5:10)
Review: Steel City Dance Discs: the vinyl only label curated by Mall Grab and most likely named after his hometown town of Newcastle in New South Wales Australia. It has served up killer releases recently by the likes of Ghettohousedrummachine, DJ Astral and X-Coast. It's now the turn of Jun Kamoda of Mister Saturday Night and Kabukahrythm fame. The quirky neon-lit funk of "Flaming Flamingo" starts of the A side along with the dusty and hypnotic confusion of "Misty Funk" which would be perfect for playing at an after-hours. On the flip, the EPs most lively moment comes in the form of the uplifting "The Fine Line" reminiscent of early Derrick Carter's Sound Patrol project.

  6. DJ Longdick - "Space Channel" (5:58)
Review: Aussie larrikins represent on another edition of Nerang's various artist compilations. Run from of the sunny Gold Coast by DJ Whpr Snpr, #3 features six generous servings of meme house for millennials. Hannover's Ray Kandinksi is up first and presents the emotive and soulful ode to first wave Detroit on "Just For A Short While", Austrian (yes, not Australian!) purveyor of all things lo-fi, DOS, delivers the EP's standout on the evocative thump of "Guaca". On the flip, Sydney's Anthony Fade goes for that old school Nu-groove vibe of way back on the acidic and saturated antics of "5 Miles" and everyone's favourite DJ Longdick (E-Beamz) delivers the releases' most sombre moment on the deep mood lighting of "Space Channel".

  3. Tonite (Marvin & Guy Obscure mix) (9:30)
  4. Salvation (FYI Chris remix) (6:03)
Review: Berlin's Kapote has fast become a staple of local label Toy Tonics - this will be his fifth release on the imprint in as little as three years. These remixes by some of the top names in house music are equally as worth your while: "Temptation" from last year's EP of the same name gets a remix by Real J: dusty, blissful lo-fi shenanigans from the street in typical Berliner style - much like Money $ex et al. "LOVE" from the Body Move EP (also from 2017) receives a makeover from Swedish wunderkind Art Alfie and is a right stompin' affair that you could imagine hearing up at Panorama Bar on a Sunday night. On the flip, we get treated to a journey down the cosmic hole by Italians Marvin & Guy on their Obscure mix of "Tonite", while FYI Chris' remix of "Salvation" goes down a deeper route on this emotive and swing fuelled number that gallops along quite nicely.

  2. Tech This Out (part 1 - Atjazz remix) (8:56)
  3. Tech This Out (part 1 - Yoruba Soul mix) (10:38)
Review: Back to 2006: Chris Clayton's mid-noughties lesson in deep house class still hits home with precision. Subtle, jazzy but heavy and insistent, it now comes complete with fresh updates from Atjazz and Yoruba Soul. The former adds more atmospheric layers and percussion that compounds the sense of hypnosis while the latter takes us right back to the NYC 1990 with a lavish 10+ min, subtly dubbed excursion. Tech no imitations.

  4. Intr0beatz - "That DUB" (feat Lay-Far - Tape mix) (5:45)
  5. Kid Sublime - "Wings Of Love" (feat Han Litz) (6:21)
Review: Set up as a continuation of their podcast back in 2008, this Russian label joins the dots between jazz various genres. Footwork House Jam no.1 is a homage to the global house culture and the eponymous Moscow-based club night in particular. The idea behind this compilation 'is to provide the fuel for house dance culture and house movement to expand further on' the label claims. Starting off on the A side with Baltimore legend Karizma and his jagged groove therapy session titled "Church Chords" there's more quality with Brit Nubian Mindz with the glitched out disco house of "Check Da Discotheque" which will contort you even more with its nifty beat repeat effects. On the flip is Intr0beatz with the sexy late night deep house of "That DUB" where he goes for that timeless formula of emotive chords, swing fuelled rhythms and sampled diva vocals to full effect.. but wait for that bassline to drop, like seriously! Finally, Dopeness Galore darling Jacob Otten aka Kid Sublime drops the soulful and life affirming broken beat nu-jazz experiment "Wings Of Love".

  4. Tell Me Why (4:20)
Review: Three years on from his first appearance on Studio Barnhus, multi-talented Matt Karmil returns to the eccentric Swedish imprint. He's in a surprisingly positive mood on opener "All Together", a chunky slab of skewed loop-house brilliance whose slipped 4/4 drums come laden with sweet, saucer-eyed samples and jaunty stabs. The celebratory mood is enhanced further by the DJ Sneak style bounce of "Meg", before he serves up the polyrhythmic madness of "UG", where synthesized bells, loved-up chords and bombastic sub-bass take centre stage. There's also a horizontal bonus in the shape of delicate but trippy, soul-fired loop jam "Tell Me Why". In other words, it's another must-have from the former Idle Hands, PNN and Beats in Space man.

Review: Karousel is the new alias from Irish producer Gavin Herlihy. Forged in the fires of house and determined by a steely dedication to timeless deep dancefloor theory, the alias begins life on one of the UK's most trusted vinyl labels, Illusion Recordings. Gavin started learning to produce in 2005 and less than a year in scored one of the tracks of the year in 2006 with Machine A Homework, a techno opus hailed by Laurent Garnier and DJ Hell as one of the tracks of the year. Over the next few years a move to Berlin lead to gigs at clubs like Panorama Bar, Fabric and later Circo Loco while his productions took root in a variety of different genres and big labels. Karousel is the expression of Gavin's house leanings rooted in the sampling of dusty old jazz and disco records and the use of hardware.

Review: Sensoramic is a new label on a mission of sensory expansion. For the debut release the UK based imprint drafts new producer Karousel to deliver two cuts of machine driven house. S.A.M., the Danish Oscillat/Delaphine favourite appears on the remix fresh from delivering a slew of killer originals and remixes as well as his most recent Mandar collaboration with Lazare Hoche and Malin Genie. On this Reshape, he is at his most sublime best delivering an emotive retake on the original that stretches heady organs and melodies alongside a beat that refuses to let up.

  2. Choose Your Colour Gipsy Dark (Fleeting Wax remix) (6:53)
  3. Choose Your Colour Gipsy Dark (Mehmet Aslan remix) (8:49)
Review: Fleeting Wax hits its third release with this bout of sinister, sleek disco for the darker dancefloor that finds Bucharest-based duo Valeriu Borcos and Eduard Gabia getting remixed from a strong cast of characters. The ever prolific Khidja is up first, turning "Choose Your Colour Gypsy Dark" into a brooding, almost-rocking affair with an irresistible noirish tint to it. The label heads then get busy with a version that ups the arpeggios in a nod to Italo amidst plenty of dubby FX, before Mehmet Aslan stretches out across the B-side with a more yearning version that lets a little light in on the situation. It's a diverse, potent bag of versions that do credit to the original while saying something new as well.

Review: Kaspar has been busy slinging out high grade house jams with a hefty side serving of funk for many years now, landing in all the right places like 4 Lux, Clone, Housewax and Midnight Shift. Further cementing the Portugese producer's credentials, this release on Finale Sessions brings a spread of styles to the table, showing off his diversity in the studio. "Everybody Jump" is impossible to ignore with its heavy bass lick and fresh take on tough, looped up disco house, while "Coastal Soaring" takes a more ethereal approach seasoned with clattering percussion, jazz funk bass and wistful pads. "Higher Fire" strikes an uplifting peak time house tip, and "Cid's Thump" gets slow and nasty with some particularly psyched-out FX swells.

Review: Prince of eclectic boogie Kasra V will release his sophomore EP 'Atlantis' through vinylonly house imprint LIPS this September 28th. Tehran-born Kasra has already built a solid reputation as a selector across London's underground circuit, with his bi-weekly 'Paradise' show on NTS Radio, plus various residencies and 22Tracks playlists. Flipping his focus onto production, his newest creations are a fusion of his own killer tastes with experimental techniques; the result being an intelligent melding of purist house, funky Balearic rhythms and synth heavy disco, all with a distinct middle-Eastern edge.

Review: Following strong turns from Kasra V last year, this Love Fever spin-off label returns to call upon Al Kassian to drop some electro-pop enchantment on unsuspecting ears. With just one recently released record to his name, Al has positively encouraged the intrigue that emanates from Artificial Emotion. "Roboluv" is a sublime slice of house balladry shot through with a curious line in wobbly electro synths, which then really come to the fore on slower B1 jam "Default". With the heavily vocodered vocals pealing out through the mix, it's quite an arresting end result that culminates with the wonderful curio "Broken Embraces".

Review: After the excellent turns from Jay Ka, Vincent Inc, Danijel Kevic and Lola Allen, the latest artist to appear on the ever productive Spanish deep house machine Minuendo is Kevin Kendall. With little previous form, Kendall doesn't take long to impress on the Go Easy EP, with the title track seducing instantly with its woozy tones and deft drum programming. "Second Chance" is a punchier affair, while "Remembering You" seems to tap into that Fred P way of doing things. "I Hesitate" is a warbling beauty to round off a resoundingly strong first EP for Minuendo.

Review: Montreal's KenLo Craqnuques has been bubbling away in the underground for some time, but lucky for us Hot Shot Sounds took notice and now present his first outing on vinyl with the Wheeels EP. There is an irresistible funk to the sounds that Craqnuques conjures up, pushing fat, Moog-esque basslines and low slung machine beats rolling at an easy tempo that hark back to the golden days of boogie and electro funk. "Mollusque" indicates how his is far from a throwback sound though - this is up to the minute instrumental RnB that recognises the true roots of the genre while looking to the future, and it sounds utterly fresh.

Review: Wojciech Taranczuk made his debut as Ketiov this time last year, serving up an expansive EP of dusty deep house treats and interesting interludes. This follow-up continues in a similar vein, opening with a pitched-down, reverb-laden blast of beat-less ambient goodness that sounds like a Balearic re-imagining of Crowded House's "Don't Dream It's Over" (the extended version of which is pretty darn dreamy. There's plenty of rock solid, club-ready fare to be found across the EP, though, including the rush-inducing piano house of "Friends", the cut-up disco-house bounce of "Semi OK", the rubbery, low-slung DJ tool "Special Treat" and the organ-heavy chug of sweaty peak-time throb-job "Workout". In other words, it's an impressively versatile EP that should suit working DJs down to the ground.

Review: It's been nearly three years since the last instalment in Running Back's occasional series of DJ-friendly drum tools. Following solo percussion 12s from Todd Osborn and Redshape, up-and-coming producer Ketiov steps up to the plate. His drum tracks are predictably dense and percussively layered, with clattering, pots and pans hits wrapping themselves around dense, off-kilter kick-drum patters and, in the case of opener "Rhythm#1", restless cowbells. In some ways, it's reminiscent of Max D's work under the Dolo Percussion alias, though Ketiov's cuts do include a few more subtle musical elements - the odd acid line here, a squelchy bassline there - not to mention a swathe of slamming, peak-time friendly tools.

Review: It is over to Sapporo's Jun Kimata aka BirdMan for the Forbidden Colours imprint out of Bilbao (Spain), who've previously delivered great work by the likes of label boss Aitor Etxebarria aka EL_TXEF_A, Eduardo de la Calle and Andres Aguirre. The Shape Of My Voice EP starts off with the driving and tunneling deep electro workout "Two Billion Light-Years Of Silence" that's dripping in futurist aesthetic, while "Track 2" is a more dystopian affair on this dark ambient/drone piece. On the flip, we have got "Train Music" which effectively bridges the gap between hypnotic techno and deep house (the label's preferred aesthetic of late) and rather inventively indeed. The "Spicy Paracousia remix" by the aforementioned Aguirre takes the track on wonderfully spaced out deep house journey over its glorious seven minutes. Nice one!

Review: Second time around for Detroit deep house outfit The Kings of Late Night's 2005 Fly Away EP, which originally appeared on the West End Blue imprint. With Billy Love's sumptuous vocals to the fore, there's much to enjoy throughout - not least the organic, undulating, live deep house warmth of sublime opener "It's The Life". Theo Parrish's Sound Signature Remix of "Illumination" - ultra-deep, jazzy, spaced-out and hypnotic - remains one of the Detroit producer's greatest reworks. On the flip, beatdown pioneer Norm Talley takes on remix duties to deliver two contrasting versions of "Fly Away". There's the sparse, jazzy and intricately programmed West End Blue Mix, and the slightly smoother West End Lounge Mix, where Love's immaculate vocals take centre stage.

Maintaining the melting pot feel of the debut, once again it's a slightly scuffed, left-sided lo-fi affair from the unpredictable newcomer. "Bricks" is a no nonsense jacker you could easily imagine Derrick Carter burying deep in a three track mix, "Dreampiece" works things out in the wooziest, sense-blurring way possible while "Pimp Slap" ramps up the jazz and breaks up the beats before "Nodachi" closes on a beautifully drummed out dream note.

Review: Kirk The Flirt is Allergy Season owner Physical Therapy, who drops a full package here of dope and balearic/break-infused club stompers for London's Axe Traxx, following up great ones by D roots, tape_hiss and RVL. From the thumpin' disco loop action of "Loser" (reminiscent of early DJ Sneak) and the seminal Jeff Mills referencing "Changes" that's merged with tough breaks sounds for an early hardcore rave vibe. On the flip, there are three terrific versions of "Good Vibrations" but for our money it's all about the man himself's version titled as the Physical Therapy Mini-dub, which goes for a deep bass-driven vibe that's perfectly suited to the afterhours.

Beatiful Eyes (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: VIBR 007. Rel: 14 Nov 16
  1. Beatiful Eyes (6:45)
  2. Drink For Peace (6:45)
  3. Devotion D (6:40)
Review: The legacy of Vibraphone's second wave continues to represent the best of classic Italian house, as long-time producer Joy Kitikonti joins up with Vibraphone main man Stefano Di Carlo to present this EP of impeccable grooves made the good old fashioned way. "Beautiful Eyes" takes the romantic, Ibizan approach to trancey house with its hands-aloft lead lines, while "Drink For Peace" brings a bit more jacking attitude to the table. "Devotion D" perhaps speaks to the more classic Vibraphone sound with its heads down chords and throbbing bassline, capturing that 90s vibe in fine style.

Review: UK producer Medlar dons the Klic alias again on Home Taping Is Killing Music, the first time in nearly six years since he threw down the classic "Slow Down" with Kiwi Lokiboi. Like the title's name may suggest "Disco Music" infuses '70's boogie down aesthetics with dusty modern deep house vibes. It stands out on its own, but the remixes sure are fantastic. From Dicky Trisco's respectful remix, which gets even more low-slung and hypnotic for the late night, plus Gerd Janson and Lauer working their magic as always on two remixes that push their new, harder edged sound. From the tough and gutsy old school stomp of their Tuffy City Kids Acid mix, to the bangin' old school rave aesthetic of the Tuff City Kids Garage mix.
