  2. M1 Cause Everyones Gotta Have Fun (6:14)
  3. I'm Weak (6:20)
  4. Dr Ice (4:57)
Review: Sydney-side twosome Anthony Fade recently appeared on SlothBoogie's edit-minded sub-label with an EP packed with celebratory treats. Here they serve up the second missive on the blog-turned-label's SB Traxx offshoot. Musically, the included tracks are far more raw, rough and ready than the duo's usually dusty deep house jams. Check, for example, the jacking, Chicago style drums and mind-altering analogue bass of opener "Mind Games", or the full throttle, piano-driven romp that is "M1 Cause Everyone's Gotta Have Fun", which boasts some seriously distorted drums. "I'm Weak", a bumpin' and bouncin' peak-time workout, is also rather bolder than usual, while closer "Dr Ice" is a picturesque, breezy and summery, breakbeat-driven affair.

House Crime Vol 6 (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: HC 006. Rel: 30 May 17
  1. Spiller (5:41)
  2. Wild 9 (Acid mix) (6:21)
  3. Bout It (6:06)
  4. Phone Chek (6:10)
Review: House Crime bounce back into the mix following the utterly essential Steven BC release with this sixth jaunt through tough and rough beats from the backalley of the house music story, this time narrated by Anthony Fade. The drums are dirty distorted machine splatters, the synths wobble under the weight of their own fuzziness and the samples crunch like they fell prey to the ropiest of MPCs, and that's precisely why Fade's jams are so damn hot. "Wild 9 (Acid Mix)" is especially potent, using a simple but deadly 303 line and all kinds of hectic textures, and "Bout It" manages to make melodic deep sound as mean and nasty as it ever should.

  1. Champagne Paradise (6:43)
  2. Creepin' (7:45)
  3. Same Tune (7:00)
  4. Same Tune (Andres remix) (5:38)
Review: Shall Not Fade has rightly become one of the most lauded labels in deep house over the last couple of years. It's perhaps fitting, then, that they've snapped up rising stars Anthony Fade. The sometime Lost Palms and House Crime duo hit the ground running with the rolling, horn-toting deep house warmth of "Champagne Paradise", which also makes use of some choice vocal samples from a Larry Levan produced boogie era classic. "Creepin" is an altogether jazzier deep house experience - think bustling drums and rich Rhodes riffs - while "Same Tune" sounds a little like Moodymann after a few extra-strong zoots. Fittingly, Detroit producer Andres contributes a tasty remix of the latter, upping the energy levels while adding some snaking synth lines and soulful samples of his own.

  2. Aim For The Yellow Sector (Alessandro Parisi remix)
  3. Saco Bay (Perseus Traxx remix)
  4. Night Ferry (Antenna remix)
Review: While they may have landed a fair while ago, it's great to see Emotional Response revisit Timothy J Fairplay's crucial early EPs with an absolutely on point remix package. Scientific Dreamz Of U brings his distinctive signal chain to "Stories Of Prison", using grinding synths and some snaking broken beats to create an early 90s trance mood to die for. Alessandro Parisi keeps things on a distinctly new wave tip for "Aim For The Yellow Sector", and Perseus Traxx brings a bold set of machine beats and technicolour synths to "Saco Bay". Antenna finishes the EP off by creating a winsome, wavey version of "Night Ferry" for sensitive souls to do the robot to.

  4. Petria's House (Dynamodyse Obsession dub)
Review: Smile for a While has recently moved to Berlin and calls for Jana Falcon, a local, emerging House Music producer ."Falling (Again Boy)" is an intricate fusion of Garage and House textures, it's a sultry, catchy tune with stunning spoken-word vocals and a bed of fuzzy beats that give it a really contemporary gloss. Things then go off in another direction with the brilliantly named, "Contemplation of Inadequacy". This one is crafted on another hypnotic tip, drawing the listener in with another bevy of atmospheric vocals and a bassline that's pure fire. In "Petrias' House" Jana goes for a more upfront House sound. Simmering piano keys lend this one a sun-soaked flourish; precisely the tonic for the fast-approaching summer. The release closes with a thoroughly banging remix by We Play House man, Dynamodyse. A tune that's thoroughly engaging and is sure to get your head in

Cat: FS 031. Rel: 02 Nov 15
  1. An Ever
  2. Rrecs
  3. What Is Free
  4. BR56
Review: Finale Sessions is excited about this release from Knoxville, Tennessee artist Alex Falk. He has been on our radar for some time now so we are pleased to share this with you! The A1 track "An Ever" is one of our favorite tracks on the EP, with dreamy pads and monstrous stabs making for a fantastic floor-stomper. Rounding out the A side is "Rrecs", a deep Techno cut with clattering chords and moving drums and claps. B1 track "What Is Free" is another solid peak time killer with thick stabs and cut-up vocals making for a perfect Finale Sessions release. Finally, "BR56" brings up the tempo while chilling out the vibe with dubbed-out chords, nasty filter work and a sound floating somewhere between Techno and House.

Review: Hailing from France but now based in Tokyo, Jazzy Couscous is a label that explores all kinds of sounds pivoting around the axis of jazz and deep house, but keeping things wide open for variety and experimentation. Following releases from Brawther, Klodio and more besides, it's time for a hefty various artists release that shows off a whole heap of talent. Matthieu Faubourg keeps thing pumping and Detroit-flavoured on "A Long Way", while Drezb smooths things out to a Chez Damier-influenced deep house groove. Pascal Viscardi gets things properly jacking on the deep-diving "Digital Illusion", and then the record closes out with the blissful ambient excursion of Midori featuring Victor Santoni's "Distance".

  3. Cherry Pie (Jovonn BND remix) (6:32)
Review: Red D and San Soda's FCL project has previously scored a number of significant club hits, most of which dug deep in the crates for inspiration. There's a similarly retro feel about Lady Linn hook-up "Cherry Pie", which successfully fixes bold organ lines and short-but-sweet vocal snippets to a rolling, old school New Jersey house groove. Speaking of New Jersey, original NJ deep house producer Jovonn handles remix duties, delivering a warm, breezy, analogue-rich interpretation that drags the track closer to classic Nu Groove territory (think Bobby Konders, rather than the Burrell Brothers). It's a fittingly rich and melodious rework of a soon-to-be-popular club jam.

  4. Luv Jam - "Grarf" (7:12)
Review: On this second 12" celebrating the label's tenth birthday, We Play House boss Red D has assembled a stellar line-up of sought-after and unreleased cuts. The EP begins with a second airing for FCL's Adonis-influenced, retro-futurist gem "More Than Seven" (first released back in 2010), before the previously unheard DJ Longsleeve bathes us in the soapy, relaxing waters of blissful deep house shuffler "Ode Aan De Filosofie". The quality threshold remains refreshingly high on side B, where Reggie Dokes' loose and positive piano house jam "Earth, Wind and Fire" is followed by the intergalactic, acid-fired pulse of Luv Jam's superb "Grarf".

  4. Tour The Vibe (3:17)
Review: London's Place No Blame, set up and launched in 2016 with a killer head to head between the then relatively unknown DJ Slyngshot and Nippon legend Japan Blues, has finally re-surfaced from the depths. While this is only the label's second outing, it's clear that its head man, the enigmatic Zeno Cosini, prefers to deal in quality over quantity. From our own fleeting exchange with him, this is an intention rather than a random occurrence - "people need the truth now more than ever", was his only answer. Unsurprisingly, this new EP from the equally cryptic Michael Ferragosto seems like a perfect match; not only does the Italian put out a limited quantity of music, but we also believe it to be among the very best out there; from Muzique to his own Private Collection, each track has a rare honesty and mystery to it. These four killers are pure murder on the system - "Acid One" stomps its way with a heavy bass, "Bell'Acid" rips and tears the groove up with toxic 303 lashings, "Jack Me" is pure, heartfelt Chicago soul, and "Tour The Vibe" stretches the acid template to new levels of DIY funk. Let's just hope Cosini finds more truth to tell. Total killer from start to end - cop this quick - limited quantities available.

  4. Barbara Ford - "Frostbite" (6:56)
Review: Interesting things appear to be happening at base camp ClekClekBoom on the evidence of recent releases from Jean Nipon, Chaos In The CDB, and those Fred P and Chevel refixes of French Fries. The mutant brand of bass, techno, ghetto flavours and more that has characterised the Paris label seemed to have taken new shape on those records and continues here with this Various Cuts 12". French Fries teams up with NS DOS for the percussive burn of "8 Hours From Nation" which pulls from Chicago House and NYC ballroom but pushes in all new directions. From here CCB regular Aleqs NOTAL provides perhaps the deepest cut to appear on the label with "Mare Imb" whilst there are shades of Kassem Mosse in Jean Nipon's excellent "Cause Of Action". A label newcomer rounds out the 12" in style with Dutch producer Barbara Ford instigating a mesmerizing exploration of ocean deep acid in "Frostbite".

  1. Nothing Is Perfect (7:41)

  3. Nothing Is Perfect (Andrew Weatherall remix) (7:46)
Review: Field of Dreams is apparently a new collaborative project from experienced producers Chris Kentish and former D:Ream man Alan Mackenzie. "Nothing Is Perfect" marks their debut and comes in bespoke, hand-finished packaging. It's an interesting track - a breezy, Balearic-minded chunk of synth-pop blessed with tactile, bright and breezy electronics, soft-focus drum machine beats and a rambling, spoken word vocal that recalls the distinctive tones of the Audio Bullys. There are two remixes, too: a deeper, sparkling revision from Mind Fair that makes more of the synth bassline while adding some reggae-influenced synth stabs, and a trippy, saucer-eyed Andrew Weatherall take that includes some seriously mind-altering new acid lines.

Review: Chicago OG Fields has gone next level so many times he's now on the "17th Level" courtesy of Monchan's hot-to-trot Dailysessions stable. Two originals, two remixes, four stunning stripped-back gems in total; "17th Level" is a perky jazz party piece with a sprightly off-beat riff while "Surely It Will" lowers its head and gets wavy in the rippling synth washes. Monchan provides the remixes with added chunk and shuffle. Sublime.

Review: Straight back to 94! Jordan Thrillseekers Fields laid down his second EP "Dub International" 23 years ago and it still sounds future to this day. "Pablo's Groove" takes a classic Cuban lick and roughs it up sideways with some awesome riffle kick rolls, "Mood Swing" is a broken house music assault with all the cuts and stutters you can cram into a jam while "Factory Jazz" is a timeless slice of rolling breakbeat funk smashed straight from the heart of a groovebox. "The Swing" finishes this classic remastered reissue with two versions, both via two more of Fields' many aliases: his Thrillseekers version layers distinctly UK-styled rave synths while his Club Orchestra takes a looser, groovier tact that allows the powerful Latin vocal sample to cut through. This is what reissues were invented for.

This time the fine art of dancing is analysed through jacking machine and sopping wet android bass while Dailysessions' founder Monchan and Bradford James apply a little cosmic soul to the vibe with their edit. Flip for two divine disco flavoured edits from rising Brooklyn editor Son Of Lee; "G Thang" kisses us goodbye with some delicious strings and shiny guitar breakdowns while "Spit Take" covers us in a big ol' coat of dusty soul for the finale. Artful.

Review: Here, Descendents of The Deep launches the From Chicago To Detroit series, bringing together a quartet of deep house tracks from Michigan and Illinois-based producers. Jordan Fields kicks things off with the electric piano-laden strut of the surprisingly trippy "Excitement", before Vincent Floyd offers up a masterclass in deep, New Jersey-influenced analogue deepness in the shape of "2gether". Flip for the wonderful blissfulness of Leandre's "Images of Spring" - think starry melodies from Detroit, coupled with the rolling swing of Chicago - and "Detroit Dubz", a killer exercise in spooky beatdown from Norm Talley and Mike Huckaby. With its' heavy, compressed bassline, creepy chords and reverb-laden textures, it sounds like it was tailor-made for Halloween.

Review: Santa Cruz de Tenerife based Pablo Fierro is up next for Compost Black label, following up top releases on the likes of Atjazz, Suol and Innervisions. Speaking of the latter label, the title track here on the The Timanfaya EP features the same kind of Afro influenced hi-tech soul you've come to know him for, while "Baobab" features the same kind of emotions and hypnotic polyrhythms you'd similarly expect of Toto Chiavetta.
