  2. Heartgroover (Arapu rework) (8:49)
Review: Djebali takes us back to his evergreen album 5 with the first of two remix 12"s. First up are Andres and Arapu. The former adds a little sunset charm to "Seven Blessings" with a touch more percussion, jazzy tones and yearning atmospheres while the latter gives "Heartgroover" a much more direct and focused sense of groove with a trippy heads-down shuffle that you'll lose hours in. Next up are Satoshi Tomiie and Terrence:Terry... Don't miss out.

  3. OMG (Todd Terry In House mix) (8:31)
  4. OMG (club dub) (5:40)
Review: The always curious William Kouam Djoko surprises yet again. The underrated hero of the Amsterdam club scene is usually affiliated with local imprints such as Rush Hour or Voyage Direct, but steps out with a new release on US institution Strictly Rhythm. Like you'd expect, "OMG" is a straight up New York City styled house jam, packed with thumpin' beats and a truckload of Stateside bounce on this homage to the classic sound. It also features Camillo's uplifting disco vocals which is a major plus. For added authenticity, they've brought in the undisputed don of The Big Apple: Todd Terry, for a couple of super hot remixes. In particular the "Strictly mix" throws down that classic garage sound from back in the day, that will really set the floor alight with its swing fuelled groove and bumpin' bass.

  2. Mystery Dub (5:17)
  3. Rebound (4:32)
  4. Wise Bird (3:05)
Review: To date, sometime Antinote and Melody as Truth contributor D.K (AKA Paris-based producer Dang-Khoa Chau) has yet to release a duff record. In fact, we'd go as far as saying that each of his releases has been nothing less than essential. The Mystery Dub EP, his first 12" for Music From Memory offshoot Second Circle, is every bit as alluring as its predecessors. As usual, many of the tracks come doused in humid, tropical samples, boast rush-inducing chords and melodies, and are underpinned by brilliantly programmed, Maxmillion Dunbar style machine rhythms. Highlights-wise, we're rather enjoying boisterous, delay-heavy opener "Stick By The Rules (Long Version)" and the ambient house influenced brilliance of "Rebound", though the simpler "Mystery Dub" and obligatory ambient cut "Wise Bird" are similarly impressive.

  3. ZZYZX (6:04)
  4. ZZYZX (Frazer Campbell remix) (6:45)
Review: Open Recordings continue their mission to champion quality chunky deep house wares from a range of artists on their third release. This time around Italian duo DNArt take the lead with two original jams, and they get things heating up nicely with "Short Story" before tripping things out on the swirling funk of "ZZYZX". On remix duties, Nick Beringer drops a tightly wound minimal house shuffle all over "Short Story" and then Frazer Campbell works up a deadly stripped down version of "ZZYZX", nudging the mellow tones of the original into prime late night material.

  1. Baby Powder (15:20)
Review: After delivering two well-received EPs to 20:20 Vision last year, Dokta is starting up his own series of releases on the long-standing tech house institution. He's starting this new mission in style with a single-sided, 15-minute long epic with Leonidas to send the dancefloor into a deep house rapture. There's a cosmic space flight narrative to get drawn into, a wealth of expressive sax playing, an extended meltdown, some well chosen shout outs to the pioneers, and a sweetly subdued roll out that feels very far from where the journey began, like all epic tracks should do. Talk about a statement release.

  1. Clear
  2. Clear (DJ T remix)
  3. Clear (Jaymo & Andy George remix)
Review: One is formerly the front man of a notorious Glaswegian punk band, the other a meticulously precise studio guru with creative flair way beyond the majority. As solo artists they're a formidable force, as a collective they're quite simply one of the most exciting new acts in the UK right now. Refusing to rush, they spend countless hours trying ideas, searching for samples, tuning percussion and tweaking sounds. For every Mia Dora track that sees the light of day, there are 100 that don't. This isn't throwaway club music for the internet generation, it's soulful, thoughtful and emotive music by two producers fuelled by an intrinsic need to give life to the sounds in their heads.

'Clear' is a shivering end-of-the-night song that achieves fullness through the sonic refinement of each and every sound within it. Simple but insanely effective, we believe this is a true modern day classic that will sound as good in 10 years time as it does today. On remix duties Get Physical top dog DJ T stays true to the original, plumping the sub frequencies for a more club-focused rework, whilst Jaymo & Andy George deliver a low-slung version filled with twisted vocal effects and orchestral strings.

  4. Babesonite (5:20)
Review: District of Columbia-based deep house imprint Better Listen has barely put a foot wrong since launching late last year. Predictably, their latest missive, which comes courtesy of rising star Dorsi Plantar, is another beauty. Title track "Everlast" opens proceedings via jazzy, jammed-out pino riffs, dewy-eyed electronic flourishes and dusty deep house beats, before "You're Solid as Fuck" re-focuses attention on a chopped-and-looped deep house/jazz-funk fusion. Flip to the B-side for the grandiose orchestration of disco-house pumper "Fool's Gold" and the near-Balearic sweetness of sun-soaked chunky house closer "Babesonite", which comes on like a disco-house enthusiast's tribute to Pepe Bradock's "Deep Burnt".

Review: REPRESS ALERT: Doublet is the production moniker of friends and musical partners Tomoki Tamura and Tuccillo, previously releasing together on other labels, they have come together to form the new eponymously named Doublet imprint as a channel for their own music. Tomoki and his Holic Trax label have long been serving up solid house music whilst Tuccillo has conjured up numerous Beatport chart toppers on labels like 2020Vision, Visionquest and Holic Trax. Here their unique style brings you back from classic house music to future minimalism and is sure to fill you with joy. Up first is the title track, a charming house shuffler with woozy synths, light footed percussion and skipping rhythms that give an off kilter and deep dancefloor vibe. 'Brother Other' is a slightly more physical affair with lumpy beats, tense synth crescendos and stiff snares that really encourage you to shake your limbs. Lastly, 'Buri Planet' is a deep and sensual number with clever vocals samples adding an element of pained soul, rubbery bass bringing warmth and golden synths and acid squelches building yet more character. This is accomplished, alive sounding house music that really does sound fresh. Doublet, then, is already off to a winning start. Vinyl Only.

  1. Do You Know Black History (8:51)
  2. Do You Know Black History (musical) (8:52)
Review: Originally recorded, self-published and released in 1985 by a school teacher in Miami for educational purposes, copies of 'Do You Know Black History' did not circulate much further than Florida's public school libraries and the record has been shrouded in mystery up until now, thanks to this official reissue from Backatcha Records. Dr Mary Sullivan Bain recorded the song to be used as motivational tool in the Miami-Dade public school system she taught in. Produced with no label constraints, this cross-genre grail sits comfortably in many boxes with a cosmic blend of 808's, bass synths, deep chords, live percussion and effects dubbed into the mix. The production leans towards the electronic diy framework that became central to the local sound of south side Miami. Whilst the categories are blurred, what's clear is that Bain was thinking outside of the box, both musically and educationally.

Review: Not content with releasing Appleblim's debut album this month, Sneaker Social Club stoke the fires with this highly anticipated sophomore EP. Once again, it casts a wide net across the house/axis with all corners chartered: "Influence" hits with a warm synth insistency you might imagine Lil Louis heralding in a Chicago warehouse 30 years ago. "Afters" is a classic strutter with a sultry piano-tickled swing while "DYCX 5" slaps with a relenting jack and spiralling arpeggios laced with pure positivity. On point.

Review: Stone cold seminal. Originally released on King Street off-shoot 11:07 Presentations, this agenda-setting Kerri Chandler produced EP still hits home 20 years after its first outing. Classic garage house with all the room to swing and warm organ work, every track is a highlight from Dee Dee Brave's (AKA Holly Simpson) spine-melting spoken word on "Mookies Bio" to the untouchable "I Don't Care" featuring stern words from Kerri's very own grandfather. A genuinely timeless and soul-stirring artefact.

  3. Tippu Tip’s Ghost (8:38)
Review: Given Dresvn's well-known links to Sotofett and company's Sex Tags Mania empire, it's unsurprising to find the eccentric Norwegian handling remix duties on their Honest Jon's debut. His melodious, driving, new age techno version of "First Voyage" is predictably special, though there's plenty to get excited about elsewhere. "Sleepy Bay" is a hazy, dubbed-out slice of sun-kissed wooziness, with flashes of blissful guitar flitting in and out of the mix like a half-remembered dream. Closer "Tipu Tip's Ghost" is arguably the EP's standout moment, though, and offers a particularly percussive take on low-slung dub-house, complete with backwards cymbals, wayward bells and spooky chords.

Review: Well Cut Records return with another deluxe vinyl release with Dubble D presenting under his irrepressable "Moodymanc" monniker. Side A opens with "Comfort Me", a deep and gritty sounding soulful jam, followed by a 're-touch' of "War and Peace", a deep and dirty disco dance floor monster which has done serious damage in the past. Luke Solomun opens side B with his "Love and Death re-make", toughening up the drums and adding some analogue twists to take the energy levels up to the point of frenzy! The record closes with "Hashtag", a no nonsense, tough Chicago inspired groove which plays backdrop to a conversation between Snoop Dog and G Unit about the music game today which we thought said a lot about the state of play in House music today! A "beatapella" is an addition to the digital version of the release for those DJs who want to get more creative with the message!

Review: Dubbyman is on a roll with his releases at the moment, not least thanks to his incredible Deep Is Dead album landing recently on Deep Explorer. This time the Spanish deep house maestro is helping launch First Floor with an original jam that revels in a blanket of fog. "So Far" is the deepest of house jams, rolling along slowly and smoky without losing its presence, thanks in no small part to the soulful croon of the unnamed vocalist. Leo Gunn then steps up for the B-side, remixing "So Far" into a sprightly terrace anthem replete with snappy piano chords to warm your cockles, but fear not because that all-encompassing Dubbyman vibe persists throughout this release.

Review: Dubtraxx is new on the scene, as is their label Rhythm N Vibe, but don't let that lull you into a false sense of security - this is seriously heavyweight gear. "Soundbwoy Request" is especially dangerous, working plenty of dub, reggae and jungle motifs into a rugged garage structure and sounding utterly ruff in the process. "Towards '99" is no slouch either, albeit on a slightly housier tip than the raucous A-side. The "2000 Tribute Mix" of "Next Millenium" meanwhile sneaks out a few of the eerie tones you'd expect to hear around the time that dubstep first started to emerge.

Review: Although primarily known for mining techno in all its forms, Freerotation resident Duckett has shown great versatility through his recording career. That versatility comes to the fore on Feeding Paper Tigers, which could well be the producer's single strongest EP to date. It contains a string of ear-catching highlights, from the shimmering IDM melodiousness of "Simulation" and deep house-meets-post dubstep warmth of "There's Things About You That I Would Never Tell You", to the wonky and mind altering drum machine rhythms of "Half Remembered Days" and sparse-but-funky "Outsider". Opener "Living With The YPJ On Venus", a kind of deep, post-dubstep/broken house fusion layered in techno style bleeps and fluid jazz-funk electric piano solos.
