  1. Love Is All We Need (main mix)
  2. Love Is All We Need (Braille remix)
  3. Love Is All We Need (Bootleg mix)
Review: Jon Dasilva is one of the original Hacienda DJs, and this single on Rush Hour's Hour House is Your Rush imprint feels like a classic Summer of Love party tune straight outta 1988, albeit with a bit of Chicago flavour, provided in no small part by Donald Waugh's sublime vocal work. The "Bootleg mix" strips everything back, adding a drugged out quality to the bassline and taking the vocals and piano into a maelstrom of delay. Remix duties are performed by Braille, who follows up his incredible Year 3000 single with another brilliant production which takes the original and adds a restless rhythm to some percolating synths and pitch-shifted piano, adding a contemporary twist which will go down well with fans of his futuristic take on house music.

  3. Vincent Inc & Jon Dasilva - "Thinkin About U" (Questionmarq mix) (7:45)
  4. Sasha Makin & Suntetic - "Drumatik" (7:23)
Review: The Manuscript mission rolls on unabated as the Ukranian label pairs long lost deep house gems with more contemporary productions. Slam Mode's "Morning Side Dr" is a gorgeous cut laden with plush synth tones to melt the hardest of dancers, while Dennis DeSantis' "Leisure" feeds touches of EBM into a mellow, dubby construction that spans styles with ease. Label boss Vincent Inc joins up with Jon Da Silva for "Thinkin About U", which Questionmarq turns into a delightfully quirky remix before Sasha Makin and Suntetic round the EP off with the epic "Drumatik".

Review: This is how you do timeless.... You get two OG artists to open up both sides of your 12". On the A we have William Rosario's legendary DAT Project with a light-footed jam that jacks up neatly with classic the classic rolling snares that only a man who cut his teeth in the early 90s. Similarly on the B we have Transitive Elements who also came through a series of warehouse shakers in the early 90s. With warm keys and a sweet drum shuffle, it's as authentic as it can possibly be. Complete with two star-lit soul-touched grooves from MLH's Victor & Christian, this really is an exceptional deep house document.

The Time (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: COB 8. Rel: 17 Oct 16
  1. The Time
  2. Sea Shell
  3. The Time (Night Sea Jorney remix)
Review: As well as steering Stripped & Chewed, Garrett David has been holding down a residency at Chicago's Smart Bar for some time. On a roll following an appearance on Distant Hawaii, The Time finds the producer in fine fettle with a classic approach to deep house clearly born out of the city he calls home. "The Time" is a shimmying jam powered by crafty dub processing and a steady hand on the arrangement, while "Sea Shell" is a more passionate affair that swoons through key changes. The Night Sea Journey remix of "The Time" is a more brooding affair punctuated by synth accents for a deeper end result.

  1. Hubie Davison - "I Know" (7:04)
  2. Johannes Albert - "Vigilia" (4:35)
  3. DJ Swagger - "21st Century Slow Jam" (5:40)
  4. Bobby Pleasure - "Cloudspotting" (7:34)
Review: Needs (not-for-profit) is a new label that aims to raise awareness about different issues within society with each release. Their first offering highlights the importance of mental wellbeing, with all profits being donated to mental health charity Mind, and calls upon a strong cast of deep house producers to impart the kind of Smallville-friendly sounds that discerning heads should snap up in a heartbeat. Hubie Davison's "I Know" is a melancholic affair with heart-nagging strings, while Johannes Albert injects a little spice into proceedings with a choice breakbeat and some excellent bird song on "Vigilia". DJ Swagger's "21st Century Slow Jam" is a peppy little shuffler with warm acidic bass and a kick ass swing in the beat, and then Bobby Pleasure finishes the record off with the wistful but tech-edged "Cloudspotting".

  2. Fern World (Eddie C remix) (6:51)
  3. Clockbert (7:39)
  4. Clockbert (AIMES remix) (6:34)
Review: Rothmans label boss rejoins his Australian production partner Dawn Again to create a masterful EP of outdoor electronics aptly entitled Fern World. After delivering top notch productions on labels such as Diablo's Social Club, Wonder Stories, and Rothmans the duo returns to offer two new originals fitting for Roam Recordings.
The EP is backed by two excellent remixes. Canadian disco maestro Eddie C takes on the title track Fern World and brings up the energy with a cutting break and a jungle esque bassline. Roam alumni and Wonder Stories head honcho AIMES takes on Clockbert and pushes it further into psychedelic territory with a stunning synth lead swirling around the hypnotic rhythms of the original.
All four tracks come together in a cohesive slab of synth driven, dreamy, and psychotropic melodies perfect for both deep woods adventures and intimate club happenings.

The Pele Release (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: ROTH 14. Rel: 10 Oct 17
  1. Cobble Jam
  2. Woman For A Day
  3. Woman For A Day (Clandestino Dessert Trance remix)
Review: We have been patiently waiting for Pele to crop up on a release from the footy mad Rothmans, and what a time to play that card! Rothmans is back once again with his Aussie teammate Dawn Again, supported by a first appearance from Leeds legends Clandestino. EP opener 'Cobblejam' is nothing short of first class, a worthy and chugging Italo powerhouse that leaves absolutely nothing to the imagination. The B-side finds us with the strangely named 'Woman For A Day', though there's nothing strange about the track itself, a deep and dark cut that slowly drives forward into the abyss. Finishing off the record is an excellent remix from the lads over at Clandestino, their 'Dessert Trance' vibe brings the record together as sweetly as Pele brought together that 1970 World Cup Winning team.

Shimmer (12")
Cat: ERS 011. Rel: 01 Sep 14
  1. Snaker Charmer
  2. Take Me To Your Leader
  3. Shimmer
  4. Hold Me Take Me Leave Me
Review: The supremely talented William Burnett makes a belated return to Emotional Response, and this time he's got Brooklyn-based studio pal John Beall in tow. Those who enjoyed the duo's release on the L.I.E.S. white label series should lap up Shimmer. It hits hard from the off, with "Snaker Charmer" delivering a velvet-clad punch to the guts. It's techno right from the top drawer, with darting electronics and drawn out pads riding a thunderous groove. The title track is impressive, too, with surging electronics and throbbing synths riding a techno-tempo groove crafted out of an old hardcore breakbeat. There's some more considered fare on offer, too, with the shimmering ambience of "Hold Me Take Me Leave Me" completing a superb package.

Review: Perpetual Rhythms is already well-regarded as a bastion of quality amongst contemporary Chicago house labels, and now they've downright sealed the deal with this mammoth compilation from a stellar cast of local cats. There's too many to all list in detail here, so focusing on the highlights, Dcee leads things in with the tumbling cosmic jazz leanings of "Suavecito," Hakim Murphy teases with a spacious and daring exploration in the liminal zone between ambient and house, and Obsolete Music Technology gets invigorating with the bouncy "High Top Fade." Those tracks alone are enough to deserve your hard earned, but there's reams of other excellent forward-facing Windy City jams to sink your teeth into.

  4. Chicagodeep - "4th Chamber" (5:51)
Review: It's been 18 months since Fundamental Sounds last touched wax but they're making up for it with a four track homage to the first emperor of China's reincarnating, time-leaping warriors. Every track hits with heritage and the right level of drama. Dcook takes the lead with dream Detroitian tones and textures while Diego Perrisson gets his eerie acid wriggle on while Taelue brings a little sentimentality to the blend with a swooning cut that wouldn't have gone amiss in DJ Gregory's armoury years ago. Finally Chicagodeep returns with a timeless Chicago synth workout laced with strong traces of immersion. Let battle commence.

  1. Phason Jazz (7:59)
  2. Mr Dewey D (6:35)
  3. Rhythmic Soundscapes (5:57)
Review: Spanish hi-tech soul maestro Eduardo De La Calle on the true home of it: Planet E - and it's about friggin' time if we do say so! Over the last several years, the Madrid native has respectfully borrowed from the traditions of first and second wave Motor City sounds, but he undeniably carved his own path via his respected Analog Solutions imprint. The Icosahedrite EP features three life affirming explorations in techno-soul. From the the galaxian Jupiter jazz of the A side, through to the classic funked up futurism that pays homage to greats like Transmat and Metroplex like on "Mr Dewey D". There is also the more powerful and straight ahead functionalism of "Rhythmic Soundscapes" which is just as heads down and DJ ergonomic as his aforementioned AS material. This follows up some great releases by him in 2017, on the likes of Anemone, Forbidden Colors and Monogram Systems.

  7. Outro (3:13)
Review: The ever-impressive Organic Analogue returns with another crucial excursion into seductive hardware jams from the deeper end of the electronic gene pool. Marvis Dee is an alias for Dutch electro champ Jeremiah R, and finds the promising upstart on impeccable form. There's something seedy in the air on killer opening jam "Alpha", while "Dipper" makes no bones about its classic, Drexciya-informed electro intentions. "I Can See It In My Dreams" is a wistful trip into Chicago house territory, which Orgue Electronique dutifully remixes in his warm, effervescent manner. With "Intervention" and "Cygnus" taking a deeper direction it's a record with depth to match the other excellent releases on OA, and one of the strongest sleeve designs we've seen in some time.

  5. Jus Jam - "Make Ya Move" (5:50)
Review: No violence or fighting talk here, just pure love for innovative dancefloor gold from the heart of Prague. Deejay Astral sets the scene with soft focus breezes and a wonderful bumping subby low-end on "Polygon", Dx2ov gets a little freaky with a super cool spoken word sample, twisting around a wonked beat pattern and warped textures on "Teacher" while Jeals strips things back for a warehouse shattering machine funk meltdown on "Woolan". Finally Jus Jam close the show with two stellar tracks... The misty, loose-footed shuffle of "Y'all Ain't Ready" and the classic 1990 synth bass of "Make Ya Move". Czech it out.

  3. Summer (Slow Porno mix) (5:04)
  4. 2000 Balloons (6:12)
Review: Alessandro Pasini, or known as Deep88 when he pulls his dance face, has been putting out music largely through his own 12Records over the last six years, but he's making an outside appearance for the US' Juice Records this week, a mighty fine addition to his now impressive catalogue. He's in house mode and the Italian delivers the A-side in the form of "Wow & Flute", a Pal Joey kinda joint with a laid-back approach, and the much heavier, stomped-out house killah that is "Don't Believe The House Hype". On the flip, there's deeper and wonkier moments on the Slow Porn remix of "Summer", but also a load of heavier house experimentation on the utterly stoned "2000 Balloons". A house tip for you, that's for sure.

  4. Rotation (MHCrew remix)
  5. The Vibe (Jimini remix)
Review: After the first two 12"s from label founder Deep88 himself, ASCII Records turns to a whole host of different characters to remix those tracks with some stunning and varied results. Luis CL is up first, taking a decidedly mellow approach to "Harmony" that tips into a heavy lidded early 90s deep house mood perfectly, while RNR take the Robert Owens-featuring "Believe In You" and make it into a stirring, tense but ultimately emotional acid-laced floor track. Rhythm 2 Soul do a gentle job on "La Beija", MHCrew take a Larry Heard-esque approach on "Rotation" and Jimini lets the space in the mix tell its own story.

Review: Dedicated hardware hassler and devoted house head Alessandro Pasini has been working tirelessly to push his agenda of warm, classically-rooted house and techno played out live on an impressive spread of equipment. This second release on his Ascii Records label continues that mission in fine style, kicking off with the slinky acidities of "Commando" before diving into the tom-tastic immersion of "O-Ring". On the B-side "Calzer8" takes a more sprightly approach with its bouncy jacking drums and zippy synth lines, and then "Nightwish" takes things in a refined, deep direction without compromising on serious strut-ability. This is outboard house music how it should be done.

  1. Count On Me
Review: Racking up 50 releases in just over seven years in no mean feat, and Will Saul's Aus Music celebrate the landmark in requisite fashion with a one side transmission from Deetron. As a label Aus command a powerful reputation and it's got there by operating as a platform for emergent artists like Midland, Dusky and Joy O as well as an outlet for established names in SCB and Lee Jones. Deetron of course belongs in the latter category and "Count On Me" is a perfect example of his current oeuvre, inherently warm and soulfully intoxicating in sound and drive forth by crisp, techy upward momentum.

Review: Sam Geiser aka Deetron serves up his first double pack EP on his label Character. The five tracks are the producer's take on house music from the viewpoint of an accomplished DJ of nearly twenty years. Having carved a long standing reputation in both the techno and house worlds, Geiser exposes another side of his personality here. Utilising soul, funk and hip-hop production techniques, the tracks are built on sampled material, much in the vein of his earlier and heavily charted tracks. "I Got To Have You" starts off the EP in fine form, this soulful number having the same energy as previous anthems like "I Cling". He then gets down with some superb hi-tech soul on the stylish "Take Me Higher" while loopy latin house gets its turn on the infectious "Supper In Casa Blanca"

Review: Detroit producer Bale Defoe is up next on Ele Records, which was established in Hanoi in 2016 and now based in Manchester, UK. They are sourcing and sharing dusty, sample based music inspired by the rich soundscape of early hip hop and house productions. Defoe seems like a good fit for the label, following up label owner Sameed's smoky and lo-fi exploits with some of his own. Starting off with the emotive swing fuelled shuffle of "Deeper Love" with those hands in the air house organ stabs and diva vocals loops mixed to magnificent effect, while the looped up and disco-fied DJ tool "Teddy Pendergrass" will appeal to fans of the Robsoul sound. On the flip, "Work #1" and "Work #2" respectively reinterpret ghetto-tech and ballroom aesthetics into a deep house framework in impressive fashion. Finally, there's the EPs standout moment in the form of the smoky and seductive late night mood lighting of "Breeze".

Review: UK legend Dego and killer keys-man Kaidi Tatham have been in a rich vein of form of late, dropping brilliant EPs on Eglo, Sound Signature and Rush Hour (the latter under their 2000Black alias). Here, they return to Eglo with four more slices of warm, rich, soul-flecked fluidity. As with previous outings, much of the material has a laidback jazz-funk feel, particularly "Orbiting Uhara" and the delicious "The Vault Descends" (think bustling bruk rhythms and darting boogie synths). They also offer up some tougher, synth-laden bruk-funk in the shape of "Man Made", while "Black Is Key" sees them unfurl a head-nodding vocal roller.

Review: Firecracker Recordings' Unthank label has been a decidedly intermittent concern since it's eye catching arrival back in 2010 with the Parris Mitchell mangling antics of Berlin dwelling Estonian producer Bakey USTL. It makes for somewhat poetic reading that the label's sixth release should usher in the return of a producer whose last apparent production credit was a contribution to the Fudge Fingas cut "Fidgety Friends" way back in 2007! Quite what the West Yorkshire based Denaji has been doing in the subsequent years is not clear, but your focus should be on his contributions here, with the Wuhti 10" quite sublime. The title track and "Dharma Dharma" are the sort of star gazing boogie and fizzing deep house that fit snugly into the overarching Firecracker sonic canon and do check the wondrous remix of "Wuhti" from Norwegian Sex Tags mastermind DJ Sotofett.
