This organic enrichment, which is an addition or better said, an enhancement in Alci's soundscape, result from the various inspirations Alci underwent during his travels and time spent surrounded by nature as well as urban nightlife.

Review: The consistently great Olympos series reaches its fifth installment with none other than Aphrodite on the credits. The goddess of love is a marquee booking in this celestial scene, so expectations for the beats she yields are high. "Aligenis" makes for a strong opening statement as lysergic layers of effects processing and sound design writhe around a snaking techno backbone. "Enalia" nudges down into a more subterranean sound without losing that attention to detail, before "Morpho" swerves towards electro-flavoured beats without breaking the shroud of mystery and studio proficiency at work elsewhere on the EP. "Pitho" possibly saves the best til last - a simmering, subliminal ride through atmospheric percussion for the Dozzy-devotee crowd to get lost in.

Review: Newcastle via London label Jaunt Records revisits its 10 year anniversary EP from 2017 with a series of great remixes by Inland, Jonas Kopp, Jasper Wolff & Maarten Mittendorff and Gian. This is the first of two EPs planned, and it offers up a timeless mix of heady techno and slick electro.

Berlin based Brit Inland tackles Jaunt resident Blackhall & Bookless's 'Spirit' and serves up a heavyweight wedge of warehouse techno. On the same side, Jonas Kopp flips 'Itria' into a sci-fi tinged bit of dub techno and long time studio partners Jasper Wolff & Maarten Mittendorff from Indigo Aera offer widescreen synth work and blissed out pads all tethered to rolling and rubbery drums. Gian's take on Stojche's track is a fantastically crisp and futurist piece of electro that will get anyone on their toes. This is a classy EP that showcases the sort of sounds you will hear on any Jaunt dance floor.

Review: Like Delsin label mates Conforce and Claro Intelecto, veteran producer John Beltran seems incapable of producing duff albums. "Hallo Androiden", his first full length outing for two years, is another wonderfully atmospheric, melodic and emotive set that recalls the producer's impeccable 1990s output. The nine tracks are as lushly produced as you'd expect, with Beltran effortlessly drifting between eyes-closed ambient techno, lilting electronica, slowly shifting sunset soundscapes and the kind of grandiose, life affirming ambient compositions that have long been a feature of the veteran producer's work. As with much of his output, there are enough intricate details and emotion-stirring motifs to suggest that the album will sound just as good on the 50th listen as it does the first.

El Provost's No Speakers label knows what's up, and they've drafted in Clark for his killer jam "The Heat." The name is no foil, this track will set any party ablaze with its distinctive speech sample and saucy rhythm section. Alongside the original, there is a strong cast of remixers on hand to serve up deadly variations, from the label boss' skipping, psyched-out groover to Ben Sims' appropriately thumping techno workout. Feeling & Above are tracks that marked Exzakt's return and are the first tunes he produced on this journey. Bass driven beats with hints of 4/4 keep this song moves into new exciting directions. With Kinesthetic joining Exzakt, Above is a banger which starts when the bass kicks. Review: For their 9th offering, ae Recordings have a various artists release. What all these artists have in common is that they have undoubtedly been leading figures within the local scene for the last 25 years.

A-side features a long lost remix which Thor made for GusGus back in 2002. There has been loud demand for this one to appear on vinyl, so the waiting is now no more. Its a balearic, tasteful and will certainly be a regular in the DJ bags this season. The B-side starts with a minimalistic and dubby anthem from Thor. A solid composition as expected from the label honcho himself. A timeless dub techno remix from Sanasol of the Icelandic electronica wizard Biogen completes this 12" - a track that first saw release back in 1997.

ae Recordings, the infamous sublabel of Thule Records, has been a hub for techno talents in Iceland since 1999. The label was, and still is, known for bringing in fresh winds into the scene and this release doesn't stray away from the concept at all; although this time we're offering a delicious slice from the older times.

Regular collaborators Malin and Yaleesa have turned out plenty of joint 12"s in the past on Will & Ink and this very label, and they sound more comfortable and sonically aligned than ever on this mighty record. There's no messing with "Alpha Decay," a loose and lysergic dubby techno workout. "Tachyon" orbits a similar soundworld, but shears the fat away for a minimal palette that sounds powerful echoing around the ample space in the mix. "Muck" slips into freaky after hours house territory, and "Stocha" drops a massive Basic Channel dub techno chord around a whisper of a beat to devastating effect.

Review: Birmingham experimental dub terrorist Mick Harris inaugurates new Madrid imprint Trauma Collective here as Monrella, with four brand new executions of sheer naked aggression. It was under this moniker that Harris (aka Fret/Lull) released half a dozen EPs for Karl O'Connor's ZET label between 1996 - 2002 - a strong departure from his previous involvement in seminal grindcore outfit Naplalm Death, and the experimental Scorn project (with fellow band member Nik Bullen). Fierce, functional and direct impact grooves that lunge straight for the jugular, the cuts featured on the Build Time EP recapture the zeitgeist of legendary local club night House Of God - an institution responsible for unleashing fellow legends such as Regis and Surgeon back in the day. Although somewhat overlooked, Harris' sound under this alias has most definitely evolved, and follows through with enough dancefloor dynamics to blend with other modern techno sounds.

creature, NonniMal. Dubbed after the eponymous volcanic debris flow that swallows whatever crosses its path, LAHAR refracts in its sound the ever-changing, jagged and
entangled landscapes of a crisis-riden time.

Residing today in the company of many post-industrial wonders, from Reykjavik's semi-subterranean water reserve Gvendarbrunnar to the phallus-shaped Smaralind mall, NonniMal prefers to give salience to his environment and remain extensively unknown. In this untitled high-octane techno EP, he spurs us to imagine an uncanny coalescence of glacial disaster into the minimalism of enumeration.

Following a limited run cassette version of the album, Who Are Ya lands on gatefold vinyl and spans 10 tracks and nearly 60 minutes of top quality turns, which sees our star player's BPM rising up into tougher, more hardcore-esque territory (Supremacy Acid, Roy Shat Over Ref) Who Are Ya also takes in some seriously smoked-out, slow-mo squelchers (Phaelon Acid 4, The Box) essentially making it a game of 2 halves (no mid tempo tracks allowed - ok??!) Through-out all of the album's giddy twists and turns however, it's Roy's trademark 303 constantly on the boil that crowns him man of the match, as he dribbles it skilfully from in and out of the mix, making him top of the league for acid once again. Review: After the success of the 2 Late 4 Love EP, Roy Of The Ravers returns to Emotional Response with a double LP with a deeper perspective, experimenting in ambient and drone textures, lucid techno travails and acid interludes.
Recorded between 1997 and 2017, the album was pieced together over the last six months after Roy's archives were first feared lost and then found. Approached by the label to release a follow up with something more introspective and personal, it was discovered that a recent move to a new studio had led to over 20 years of music being misplaced after it was believed they were mistakenly dropped at a local charity store. However, deep in a box of what were thought to be patch cables were in fact the decades worth of hard drives and here presented, is a sample of those lost recordings.
The nature of the music is introspection, eschewing the acid beats and white noise for a personal encounter between man and machine. The orchestral opening of the title track gives way to the submarine beats, pulsing TB303 and gliding hats of Robinson College 10 to set the outlook to come. Even with the scattering A Dim And Distant Past waking lulled senses, the melodies and feel all lead to a pause and reflect rather than jump and shout.
This is continued with the haunting drives of Bounce Erec and Oriental X0X-Press; the twisted, warped jams of The Weber Traum Boat Pt.3, Ichi and Roland Corp Labs 05; and the beautiful, heartfelt odes in Sade Lost Theme, The Clock House Pt.2 and closer, Nemesis '01. The album's melodic nature hums and shines as CS (6x8) appears as much a centre piece as a alternative consideration to the acid tinged, club bangs of Roy's releases to date.
A surprise package maybe, but in the rolling, word of mouth phenomena that was Emotinium II, all this and more was sensed and so White Line Sunrise II, spreading across 12 songs of contrasting moods, is a further affirmation that there is something good and worthy of exploration

Review: Silent Season is proud to present Segue's third full-length LP with the label. On his new album, Jordan Sauer explores a new facet of West Canadian natural history. Four thousand years ago, Western Canada's First Nations people migrated into the fjords and rainforests carved out by the retreating glaciation of the last Ice Age. The Island is a tribute to Canada's prehistory and the spiritual journey of a people entering a forever- altered landscape to call their home.

While Segue's last album very much explored a cross section journey of British Columbia from the mountains to the sea, The Island explores the hidden coastlines and inlets that pepper a still- mysterious landscape.

Throughout the album, each song spreads out beautifully as a reflection of the place or thing it's named after and paints a stunning portrait of BC's natural wealth. At first glance it seems like a tourist's guide, but when you listen deeper, The Island blossoms into something deeply personal and moving- a sonic imprint of places in relation to culture. One listen will put you right in the rainforests and mountains that the Coast Salish has called their home.

  4. Jonno & Tommo - "Efficacy" (Havantepe Emax Potentiation)
Review: Receptor Theory is the seventh release on Verdant Recordings and the first of several scheduled for 2019. Once again we find carefully selected compositions assimilated into another elegant EP of guaranteed deepness. The EP sets tracks from Berlin's Sirko Muller (Tokomak / Wandering) with Ornate Music's Jonno & Tommo on each side plus serious remixes from Verdant favourites RV800 and Havantepe (last seen together on the 2017 Aura EP). It is measure of the label's growing rep that these producers sought to be featured by the label away from their established imprints. The original Affinity and Efficacy tracks are assured yet subtle, dub inflected grooves but each are treated quite radically when reinterpreted. The RV800 reshape of Affinity moulds it into peak time tech house territory with a playful 303 bassline. Havantepe changes up Efficacy with devastating effect; the remix is a sinister breakbeat slow burn with a creeping & growling 303 bassline and a very strong conclusion to this intriguing EP. An EP for students of the deep and scientists of the mind.

Review: The fifth release of the label returns us to the first compilation UNIVERSE.
This time in orbit you can hear (as in the first release) the French producer Umwelt with the apocalyptic doom core track ""Fallen Empire"". Also a collaboration of the Mosaique label owner Moralez and the legendary American EBM/ Hard Core artist The Horrorist. They were joined by a hypnotic composition from the Mannequin label owner Alessandro Adriani and accidentally surviving track (after the death of the artist's music storage) from Greek artist Morah, who's was released on Helena Hauf's label Return To Disorder. Vinyl only.
Mastered by Moralez at Dark Crusader Studio (Saint-Petersburg, Russia).

Review: The next logical step in the Chronicle catalog sidesteps the typical press-artist relationship and comes to us straight from the (un)known. A record that is as compellingly clandestine as it is forceful, it wastes no time securing a slot next to some of the most enigmatic ""Unknown Artists"" of our time, which count some of the most prestigious artists out there among them.

Upon hearing the music, identity becomes irrelevant. The typical rough and booming kicks have been replaced here with something more streamlined and tactful. A certain eerieness permeates throughout the entire body of work, gently hypnotizing us into a cadenced submission. A record for moments of phantasmal bliss within times of uncertainty.

Review: Modeselektor have never been all that keen on looking back, so it's little surprise to find that they've chosen to celebrate 10 years of their Monkeytown label with an album of brand new cuts. As you'd expect, it's rather good. As well as their own "My Friend The 201" - a rush-inducing fusion of glittering, star burst electronics and weighty bottom-end pressure - highlights include the insanely heavy warehouse flex of Shed's "Rigger", the off-kilter techno breeziness of Redshape's "Dirt Box", a skittish and jumpy workout from German veterans Mouse On Mars and a woozy chunk of experimental ambient/IDM fusion from Anstam.

Review: The latest in the synth-heavy sludgedown from Public System Recordings, invites a new cast of characters into the dungeon dance. The common theme throughout this sampler of titans of industrial the world over, seems to be wide, slowed down melancholy. Some tracks take a floor-friendly jump, while others demand the attentive consumption of a more serene setting. These two discs are packed with dynamic, chugging, and forward thinking jams that make you mesh all things PSR is passionate for.

  1. X To C

  3. The Edge
Review: Robin Ball's Memory Box builds on the success of early releases with a big new outing that features two of his own tracks and one from the legendary Luke Vibert. Memory Box is a party that has hosted Derrick Carer, Trevino and A Guy Called Gerald among others, and is a place to hear proper acid house. Ball himself is a master of the genre and most often released on his own Groovepressure label, having been making music since his teens. Now his latest labour of love is once again reaffirming his status as a vital voice in the UK scene. Luke Vibert has a rich history that makes him a key part of the UK's dance counterculture over the last 30 years. His always animated music is wild and inventive and comes on greats like Mo Wax, Warp and Planet Mu. Here he offers 'X to C', a wild melange of warped synth tones, grizzled basslines & acid flashes. It will twist and turn the dance floor inside out. Robin Ball's excellent 'Gripper' is a corrugated bit of electric house music that never sits still. Pensive pads in the background are offset by a busy lead synth line and old school stabs that make it a perfectly timeless, energetic fusion of moods and grooves. Lastly, Ball serves up 'The Edge,' a brilliantly brash cut with stepping acid sequences, raw drum work and warped bass that distills decades of UK music into one essential track. These are three devastating club cuts that expertly draw on the past, present and future of acid.

Review: On BAS008 Bassiani welcome Voiski and his uplifting take on techno. Cascading snares, dreamy melodies and a good dose of cosmically charged sounds make "Our Brilliant Future" a beautifully crafted ode to hope. The motive comes in many facets: starting off with "Sit Down Next To Me" and it's tightly knit melody, retrospective amalgamates with futurism. Then we dive into the roaring cave of "Chasing Shadows", where the bass is deep and the synths cheeky. "TearSystem" stays true to its name: rave romanticism in its crystallized form. Fading out on "Your Heart Starts To Race" Voiski closes on a distant note, nevertheless attuned with the cosmic groove.

Review: A four-track acid EP by veteran producer Warlock, out on Kalbata's Brush & Broom label. Ex-amount of jaw-grind action from the London underground legend. "Violent Rays" and "Swearings" are both straight-up warehouse workouts, comfortably placed next to reflective after-hour gushers "Run DC" and "Cave Tone". Once again, Warlock demonstrates stunning crisp production, touched by old-school heritage, dating back to pre-94 legislation times. Essential.
