E2-E4
E2-E4 (Mad Professor Qantas Crazy remix)
Review: 'E2-E4' is of course a legendary bit of music written by a legendary composer. Here, Alex Kassian serves up his own extension version of it and takes us on a 12-minute electronic trip that will be perfect for the more adventurous DJs and dancers out there - not least in Ibiza this summer. Next to the escapist original is a flipside remix from the one and Mad Professor. He heads out on his own with plenty of mind-melting effects, dubby undercurrents and mesmeric leads that encourage minds to wander. A real pearler for the hotter months and beyond.

Review: The ever-charitable Needs project continues apace with another stunning cast of characters offering up their dancefloor creations to help a good cause - the environmentally-focused Cool Earth NGO. On this 12", Eris Drew delivers the uplifting breakbeat celebration of "See You In Snow", while Edward takes things deeper with the tripped out minimal house groove of "Mind Loop". D. Tiffany brings a particularly crafty approach to her own drum funk science on "Sun Trip" and Henry Hyde cools things down with the mellow, new age 2 step stylings of "Every Day's A Good Day For A Swim."

Olivier Romero - "Shout The Killer"
Josh Baker - "Can Anybody Help"
Cosenza - "Innercross"

Review: The Politics Of Dancing label celebrates its tenth anniversary with a special sampler EP featuring four on-point house cuts. Olivier Romero gets dark and deep with his menacing 'Shout The Killer,' Josh Baker's 'Can Anybody Help' then gets more upbeat and party-ready with its silky pads and upright kicks, while Cosenza explores a raw and percussive tech house vibe with busy lead that zips about the mix. It's pure Detroit house cruising with the closer from Camilo Gil & ONE Plus. Happy birthday to this fine label and here's to many effective more EPs like this one.

Review: Any discerning deep house heads will be familiar with Yossi Amoyal's work as the head of the cultured Sushitech label, and now he steps out with a new imprint, Endell Street, alongside co-founder Nils Hess. This one is named after a busy thoroughfare in the heart of London that was home to the Eukatech record store and will be focussed on reissues of work from the Eukahouse archives. First up we some prime tech house from genre pioneer Nathan Coles who serves up a kicking and unreleased mix of the Housey Doingz classic 'Kitchen Spasm'. Then comes a garage-tinged bumper in the form of Soggy Plop's 'Hairy Scary' (Get Fucked remix) and last of all, Flunky's 'Love Song' brings low-slung sleaze.

Dub In The System
Review: Mr G is indeed a real-life G. The long-time underground servant is famous for crafting impossibly hypnotic house tracks that are deep, smoky and dusty. He mostly does so on his own label but also takes trips to some of the finest other imprints out there, and NDATL sure is one of those. He once again voyages into the depths here with opener 'One4Cath' setting a heady tone from the off as the razor-sharp hi-hats cut up the muted, mirky low ends. 'Twist' brings some euphoric vocal stabs that inject raw soul to the menacing grooves and 'We All Feel Something' brings some signature toms and congas to the mix as sultry vodkas this time bringing the human element. 'Dub In The System' is a final heads down, back room marcher for those who like it stripped back and raw.

Aferrafters
Review: Scale Factor is a new label about which we know nothing other than acclaimed French house producer Brawther is the man to kick it off. He takes things back to basics here with some club rocking but still deft and stylish club tools. 'Shire' opens up with spinning hi-hats and solid, thudding kick run though with some bleeping sci-fi synths. On the flip is the more wonky and unhinged 'Aferrafters' with vocal fragments and warped synths running through the slick house drums. Two essential jams for DJs and dancers alike from the cultured Frenchman.

Review: A new special edition release from Traumer is always worth hearing, especially when it has been two years since the last one. This one is another perfect masterclass in precise, stripped back grooves and it come son limited edition hand stamped 12". Opener 'Would We' is a dubbed out and loopy affair with nice deft chord smears, then 'Six's Vibe' picks up the pace with a more busy and driven drum line but still its of lush dub chords. 'Attenuation' closes out with another smooth causing groove that is warmed by the deft pad work and exudes real machine soul.

Review: Steve O'Sullivan returns to Phonogramme Records with his latest EP, Tribal Dubs, a strong three-track offering that exemplifies his mastery of deep grooves and atmospheric textures. Building on the success of his debut on the label, O'Sullivan reaffirms his position as a leading figure in the techno scene with this mesmerising release. The EP's title track, 'No Aura,' sets the tone with its hypnotic rhythms and immersive soundscapes, while 'We Got Dis' on Side 2 delivers a deep, looped tech-house burner that is both hypnotic and irresistibly funky. Closing the EP is 'Tribal Dub,' a sultry and deep exploration of dub-infused house music that further showcases O'Sullivan's talent for pushing boundaries while maintaining his signature style. With Tribal Dubs, Steve O'Sullivan demonstrates once again why he is regarded as one of techno's most respected artists, delivering an exceptional release.

JARPP - "Su Passu Turrau"
Review: The Future Sound Of Sardinia follow hot on the heels of London, fixing yet one more cog to their prospective time machine with a new V/A compilation. 'Centuconcas' welcomes one contribution each from Claudio PRC, Agi Thoriu, Andrea Ferlin, and Jarpp. Each artist is caught exercising a deeper-into-their-own-pysches dub flavour than usual; PRC's sonic epigraph 'Uraki' is an impressive demonstration, unconsciously driving its sticky chording ricochets unto semi-conscious ears; Thoriu's 'Aressi' follows up with a neat fusion, yielding something between ambient future garage and a deep tribal entrainment; Ferlin's 'Hydra' is far more muted and operational in mood, veering more on lo-fi tech; and to close, Jarpp summons his inner MPC for 'Su Passu Turrau', taking its namesake from a traditional Italian line dance (but in actuality, the track sounds like nothing of the sort, unless we entertain the idea that this is the soundtrack to a line dance beamed in from the future...)

Review: Picasso's Abstract Grooves Vol 1 features Samuel Andrews' stylish blending of jazz, dub, and electronica into the first record for the new Tackle Audio label. This Minimal/Tech House album starts with 'Do Mermaids Like Dub?' on Side-1, immediately setting a playful and intriguing tone. Following this is 'Snakecharmer' (feat Oz), which adds a mystical and rhythmic element to the mix. On Side-2, 'Sub Rosa (Love)' offers a deep, emotive groove that transitions smoothly into the final track, 'Deep.' This concluding piece is a standout, characterised by its smooth, melodic parts that provide a satisfying and serene end to the album. Abstract Grooves Vol 1 is a beautifully crafted soundscape that takes reality as its starting point and ventures into the abstract with finesse and creativity. Excellent record!

Low Steppa & Tony Romera - "Dance To The Music" (extended mix)
Maur - "Disco Tool" (extended mix)
Review: The latest V/A sampler record by Toolroom Records comes in the shadow of unfortunate news in regards to singer Kathy Brown, who, last we heard, was battling stage four cancer. Brown is the original featuring singer of Praxis' 'Turn Me Out'; her vocal contribution to the track has since gone sampled by many a deep and jackin' house producer, owing to its standout "work me with temptation" lyric, whose simple injunction and passionate delivery would seem to bottle the essence of an era (of overwork, of temptation, of desire). Now Toolroom continue to dedicate their latest releases to Brown in her honour; this time, her 'Turn Me Out' vocal is reworked into 'Turn Me Deeper', featuring a star cast of organ-synth peddling, deep house foundation-shattering producers (Wh0, Mark Knight, James Hurr), backed up by contributions by the likes of Shadow Child, Low Steppa and Maur as addenda.

Review: Dungeon Funk lands heavily here with a debut release that sets a good standard from the off. This marks the first time that assured and hardcore deep house heads Dungeon Meat and SlapFunk Records have come together and it is the result of Meat man Brawther hosting a comp on his Patreon channel for aspiring producers to try and impress. From the many entries he received, the four best are served up here starting with Ibiza-based A.M. Project whose 'Flippin' Kicks' has heavyweight kicks and plunging bass. UK-based ADMNTi & Jack Ling offer the quick tech funk of 'Meat Slap', Russia's Fanick brings a trippy breakbeat vibe with 'Watch Me' and Canada's Modal Logic offers 'Space and Science Center', a nice loopy and low-slung banger to close.

Review: Melchior Productions's remixes of Nina Kraviz's 'Tarde' have long been dancefloor favourites and now they get a proper but limited vinyl pressing so you can own them for yourself. They are archetypal cuts from the German dub tech and minimal maestro, starting with the A-side which is deep and frictionless, paddy and dreamy with swirling vocals up top and dusty hi-hats. The Melchior Productions LTD Late mix is a little more pumping and driving with heavier kicks but still perfectly hypnotic late-night grooves.

Review: It has been a while since we heard from Subb An, the Brummy beatmaker who arose on the crest of a new school house wave more than 15 years ago now. He lands on My King Is Light here with a nice and stylish EP that brings dub and minimal to his usual tech sounds. 'Hoarfrost' is an icy and frictionless opener rippled with soft melodies that soothe the soul. 'Hoarfrost' (Meditation dub) is a beatless lullaby, and 'Point Of View' then brings a little more drive but still has plenty of depth to its designs. 'Breeze' is the best of the lot - a nice Bluetrain-style dub-out for the afters.

Review: Tom Ellis rarely seems to leave his gaff in Wales but that's fine with us as long as he keeps turning out the sort of inventive and alluring final sounds that he has already done for so long. This one on Minibar taps into his love of space with opening 'Neon Pink Grid' airing up deft alien sounds over dry, gritty tech beats. 'Retrograde Orbits' is marbled with more interwoven cosmic synth lines and deep space pulses and 'Mythocracy' is a loopy and unresolved sound with dubby low ends and silky pads. Last of all, 'Lunation' gets more deep and dark for intimate late night sessions.

This second volume of A Sillybration does that once more by bringing together some of the most sought-after tunes and vital classics from legendary UK talents Terry Francis, the late Nathan Coles, Laurant Webb, Dave Coker and Justin Bailey aka Housey Doingz. Review: The Tree Frog Army EP on Neotropiq features the diverse talents of the label's collective, offering a myriad of strong electronic dance music. Silverlining's 'Murine Illusions' begins the EP with a nostalgic yet powerful West-Coast-inspired acid house vibe. Trixie's 'Handshake' follows with hypnotic broken drums and otherworldly synths, creating an entrancing atmosphere. Oliver Moon's 'What You Want' brings icy TR-707 drums and mysterious vocals, delivering a groove full of surprises. Finally, Tom Gillieron's 'Orange Clouds' infuses Motor City vibes with subaqueous pads, perfect for the hazy hours of the morning. Together, these tracks form a cohesive narrative, reflecting the collective's love for warm aesthetics and breaking genre conventions. Beyond their musical talents, Neotropiq stands united in using their platform to address global injustices, making this a worthwhile endeavor all around.

The title track opens up and is coarse and rich in texture, with slapping hits taking centre stage while languid guitars slowly garner your attention. 'Theme For What' is another unusual one, this time with trippy melodies and tumbling drum loops, while 'Geek Groove Odyssey' layers up pulsing bass and bleeping sonar synths into a serene cosmic trip. 'Out Of Mood' is another tense tech cut with edgy synths keeping you in suspense as the dark drums march on.

XTC
Review: After a noteworthy first release, the Hidden Folder label is back in the spotlight with a new EP from Christopher Ledger. Talk Up Straight kicks off with the title track and it's the sort of tune to get any floor up on its toes and raving thanks to the slapping hits and twisted synths that bring life to the tough beats. 'Do It Like That' then brings a naughty bassline and fresh house bounce to a track with hints of retro filth. 'Almost There' is a more smooth groove that locks you into the warm synth smears and driving house drums then last of all is 'XTC' which has a menacing edge to it amongst the bristling percussion and future tech drums.

Review: Kolony Gorky is back with a third EP in less than a year that once again offers some stylish and artful rhythmic interpretations. DDrhode & Sohrab are behind this one and it opens with the airy percussive pattern and suspensory loops of deep and deft jam 'Ghoroob' (Kryptic Rhythm) which becomes dusty downbeat and late-night jaunt when served up as the 'Haleeteh?' version. 'Azadi' has the feel of a sixties spy thriller with its mysterious leads and 'Distant Sun' shuts down with some zoned out and loved-up deep house romance. Another hard-to-define but easy-to-love EP from the already vital Kolony Gorky.

Review: Nail Tolliday aka Nail is a house music don who rose to prominence back in the 90s with the cult DiY collective out of Nottingham, but also worked as one half of downtempo pair Bent. He disappeared for a while but then return a decade or so ago and since then has been turning out the jams on a regular basis for several different and respected labels. Now he takes matters into his own hands by launching his own imprint In The Dance. Four effective, stylish cuts mark its debut, from the raw, stripped-back sound of 'Grumble' to the more light and airy drums of 'Highly', the punchy kicks and balmy chords of 'No Windows' and on to closer 'Pretty Thing' with its mix of hefty grooves and more whimsical pads. A super 12".

Review: Mighty big-room house label Toolroom Trax is back with a sampler EP to showcase what it is all about and where it is at right now. It's a no-frills affair full of tough grooves starting with the Spanish vocal flair of Nausica's 'Se Pone Loca'. D Ramirez shows he still has the skills to pay the bills with the electro house energy of 'Yeah Yeah' then Sllash & Doppe offer up some trippy and hooky vocal sounds on 'Kyrenia'. Saison closes down with a nice vocal roller in the form of the hands-in-the-air gem 'Satisfy The Need.'

Review: Standout Romanian producer makes a welcomed visit to the Rawax camp. The 'Metaphor EP' is a sublime example of superior primetime house music. 'The Wine Glass' is most optimal for dense crowds not worried about a little sweat and perhaps not enough foot space on the dancefloor. In fact, they love that! This is that kind of house music where you get happily drawn to the floor. 'Heal Dealer' adds a bit of acid and a beautiful underlying melody that is perfect for eyes closed listening moments. 'Doremi' is the ideal B-side as the deeper side to things, then the title track finishing off in style. Ali brings a great balance of techno and house to his sound. Rawax puts out a lot of music it seems like and when it's of this calibre, we just say bring us more!

Review: Now this one's one to feast your ears on. After successful releases on Ba Dum Tish, What NxT, Dark Side Of The Sun and Interweaved Records, Boss Priester comes back strong with the 'Trixy' EP on Salty Nuts. A four-track bonanza of whimsical whackouts, the concept here could be described as speed garage blended with a sound effects board controlled by Mr. Oizo in a Banana Splits outfit. 'Trixy' is the right name for it; though not itself a word, the coinage captures something of the trickiness of 4x4 and the tricksy connives of a psychedelic con artist. Indeed, Priester acknowleges this one's 'Not 4 Every 1', but that doesn't stop him from engaging the lightest-footed and -hearted samples and one-shots, whether they're chimpunked aporias or springy fidgets.

This latest on his own Trelik takes the form of three classic cuts from two much sought-after EPs - Built In and All That Nothing. Review: Short Attention Records makes a welcome return here with a new drop of wax that fits the label head into its roots in deep techno sound worlds. This one takes the form of a various artists' EP crafted with an intake feel for cosy floors and who better to kick off in that vibe than the revered Lawrence whose 'Hawser' is a groovy and melodious track. Next, New Jersey don Joey Anderson sets a slow and deep tone with 'Human Kind' which has moody vocals, and Japanese artist Takuya Matsumoto follows with 'Three Flowers', a more potent and driving cut with a fine acid bassline. Rounding off the EP is 'Desired Spring' by R/K, a loop-driven deep house gem designed for both listening and dancing.

It is Will Do who steps up for the label's latest release and once again subverts expectation across four fresh cuts. There is a cosmic energy tot he zippy synths of old school tech house cut 'This Is Your Life" (4am mix) while 'Final Space' is a more zoned out cruise on loose synth trails and snappy beats. 'Solaris' gets more direct but still operates in an astral world between the stars and 'Obsession' rounds things out with the sort of warming house glow that you want to feel when the sun starts to come up.

Review: It's reissue time for one of the most in demand records from the Trelik catalogue, featuring Baby Ford and Thomas Melchior under their Sunpeople alias. The flip side's opening track 'Check Your Buddah' is probably the best known of the four tracks here, with its spacious echoes, mantra-like voices and heads down beats, but there's plenty to be said for the other three. 'Lovers Eyes' is an equally dubby techno affair, but pinned down by sturdy, infectious beats, 'Sungods Wedding' is blessed with churning, warm bass action and just a smidge of cowbell and 'Make It Right' is properly hypnotic 3am gear that's a dream to mix and draws in the listener with its imperceptible builds and three note bleep magic. Worship the Sun!

'Take It Deep Down' has dreamy vocal coos swirling up top next to soft synth patterns as the percussive beats drive down low. 'II' is clean and perfect for cruising along to thanks to the supple and succulent kicks that are oversized and delicious under the balmy synth smears. Review: Rupert Hartick made quite an impression with his debut release on Pleasure Zone in 2022, and the eagle-eared out there might have copped his drop on Konfus last year. Now he's graduated to the unstoppable Rawax with a four-tracker of sophisticated tech house for the discerning dancer. 'Sweet Dreams' has a meandering, hallucinatory quality helped no end by the amorphous synth tones shimmering over the top of the slinky, shuffling beat. 'Wiggle System' is an entirely different proposition marked out by snaking electro with a mellow demeanour. 'Smokin Kims' is also electro in its construction, but there's a very different flavour to the synths, which warp and writhe through some exquisite sound design. 'Leftback' maintains the thoughtful, original approach Hartick takes across the release, all while offering a different slant to his productions focused more on brittle percussion and FX tweaking.

Once again he mixes up his slick infectious grooves with acid twitches and tripped out sonic motifs that make for tunes as effective on the mind as they are the body. 'It Works' is a slinky opener with low slung bass, 'The Darkhold' is more driven with dubbed out low ends and 'Far Far Out' gets a lil' freaky for the after party. Melodic electro-acid tempered by vocoder lines (the 'Vox Mix'), speedy 4x4 trance ('Supernova') and deeper-down-the-rabbit-hole tabfests ('Above & Beyond'). Clearly, there's something here for everyone; even a delectable topping of bonus beats on the A2, which works just as well on its own as it does with its vocoded vocal centrepiece.

JS-07R
Review: JS is an alias of James Zeiter and is also the name of his own label. This seventh transmission once again showcases his signature take on minimal, dub and techno. 'JS-07' rolls out with deep, pillow drums and well buried sub bass that slowly sweeps you up and locks you into a state of hypnosis. 'JS-07R' on the flip side is run through with slightly more warmth and light, like beams of sun piercing the surface of an ocean and catching microscopic organisms floating on the sea bed. It's a heady sound full of soul.

L'interpretazione Dei Sogni
The Mole - "Groovy Foodbag"
3lias, Erick Navas, Clock Poets, Nagual - "Good Not So Bad"
Triptease & Greg Paulus - "Dreg Gong"
Fabrizio Siano - "Indahood"
Review: Bulgarian crew We Or Us have assembled a fine various artists release here for their next 12". 'L'interpretazione Dei Sogni' features an opening cut from The Mole in the form of the loose -limbed 'Groovy Foodbag. 3lias, Erick Navas, Clock Poets & Nagual all combine for the brilliant 'Good Not So Bad' which is gritty minimal tech house, and Triptease & Greg Paulus offer the more organic depths of 'Dreg Gong' which is all busted bass and muffled vocal swirls. Fabrizio Siano's 'Indahoo' shuts down with some wonky rhythms invention, spooky spoken words and DIY percussive details.

COVID 2020 EP
Cat: YOTSUME 008.
I Say (part 2)
Improvisation
TRAP
Review: Just when you think you've heard the last of Covid in music, along comes this Covid 2020 EP from Yotsume Music label head Saki Hiroaki, indicating that it was written during those most weird and dark times, specifically in the city of Kurashiki. 'I Say' (part 2) is a seriously silky deep house with wispy and liquid chords rippling out to an infinite horizon as the persuasive drums get you into the groove. 'Improvisation' is a more crisp tech cut but is still unhurried and detailed with nice deft synth curlicues and the trio of escapist gems is completed with 'TRAP'. This one again sinks you into a pillowy and gentle groove with muted chords drifting up top like clouds.

Pioneer Series Vol II
Cat: MCRBP 002.
Mtps - "Moonrise"
Michaelis - "Wax Off"
Mihai Pol - "Zelot"
Fedo - "Anantkar Kaur"
Review: Micro Orbit is back with another trip around the cosmos almost exactly a year since they first launched into space with the first in their Pioneer Series. That was backed up with their Origins Series in January this year but it is to the Pioneers we return here with four finely crafted minimal and tech house cuts. Mtps's 'Moonrise' is a gritty, punchy opener with a stripped back sense of menace. Michaelis's 'Wax Off' is the sort of silky sound to spin you out at 5am and Mihai Pol's offers up deliciously deep and heady loops on his 'Zelot'. Fedo closes things down with the floating and suspensory dubbed out tech house delicacies of 'Anantkar Kaur.'
