Review: The ever-charitable Needs project continues apace with another stunning cast of characters offering up their dancefloor creations to help a good cause - the environmentally-focused Cool Earth NGO. On this 12", Eris Drew delivers the uplifting breakbeat celebration of "See You In Snow", while Edward takes things deeper with the tripped out minimal house groove of "Mind Loop". D. Tiffany brings a particularly crafty approach to her own drum funk science on "Sun Trip" and Henry Hyde cools things down with the mellow, new age 2 step stylings of "Every Day's A Good Day For A Swim."

AM Bubbles
Review: ??? is behind Abstract Grooves Vol 2 and delivers a very solid follow-up to their debut on Tackle Audio, showcasing a perfect fusion of tech house and dub reggae influences. 'Day 2 Night' opens the release with a vibrant and upbeat tech house groove. It's full of energy, with a funky rhythm that makes it an instant dancefloor mover, highlighting the producer's ability to blend dub vibes into the house sound. 'Feet Amongst The Clouds' introduces a smoother, more atmospheric feel, driven by a strong reggae vocal sample and heavy dub influence. The fusion of reggae with house adds depth and a soulful edge to the groove, making it equally suited for both relaxed listening and dancefloor sessions. On the flip side, 'AM Bubbles' slows things down with a laid-back dub jam, perfect for winding down while maintaining the dub house vibe. Perhaps, our favourite of the three songs. Abstract Grooves Vol 2 is an impressive, genre-blurring release from Tackle Audio, blending funk, dub, and house seamlessly.

Review: You can always rely on Dungeon Meat to kick out the jams and that is the case here with Julian Anthony next up to make a solid house statement. 'Dale Ale' kicks things off with a tumbling hook that sounds like someone whacking a giant metal drum, while 'Phantom Strike' brings shuffling garage energy to the beats. 'Radikal Forze' is one of those late-night jams with some mysterious pads leading you to mischief and last of all 'Z-Town' rides on rubbery kick drum loops with tripped-out pads. Heady and physical at the same time, all four of these are superb.

Blow Your Mind (version)
Review: Smart Alex is the coming together of Laurant Webb and Dave Coker of Housey Doingz and now one of their best moments gets reissued by the good folks at Sushitech. This limited 12" kicks off with 'Specially Hot' which is a powerful house track that has long been a secret weapon for Fabric residents. The original has a freaky vocal and edgy pads and the version gets more percussive. On the flip side, the deep and dubby 'Blow Your Mind' is a real classic with wet hits and subtle spoken words over percolating bass. it's a great one for a left-of-centre closer and the version is even more mind-melting with extra synth madness.

Review: Gideon Jackson and Eddie Richards are bona fide tech house titans who have more than helped to shape the genre since day dot and the All Rise EP sees three of their finer past glories gathered together and remastered and pressed on lovely red wax. The excellent 'Biscuit Barrel Blues' opens with exactly the sort of compelling drum work you would expect and it is imbued with some prying synths and sultry vocals. There is an irresistible glitch and dryness to 'Pull Tab 2 Open' and its smeared pads that make it perfect body music then 'Crying' (Gideon Jackson remix) brings a more heavy tech house sound with extra dub weight. Perfection.

Heike (Mood mix)
Review: Ricardo Villalobos wasn't always the cult figure he is today. At the start of his career he was an underground producer still finding his feet and fomenting his own sound. It was in the first decade of his career that he cooked up this tune and had what is about as close as he will ever get to a techno anthem. 'Heike' rides on big drums with detuned synth lines layered up next to female vocal coos, pixelated synth modulations and prying bass. Its a mental workout as much as a physical one and still bags today, which his why it gets this reissue on Rawax alongside the Mood Mix on the flip which is more dubby and dialled back into to deeper beats.

'JS-07' rolls out with deep, pillow drums and well buried sub bass that slowly sweeps you up and locks you into a state of hypnosis. 'JS-07R' on the flip side is run through with slightly more warmth and light, like beams of sun piercing the surface of an ocean and catching microscopic organisms floating on the sea bed. Review: Satoshi Tomiie, a legendary figure in house music, returns with 12B Dub Part 2 on Phonogramme Records, showcasing his signature impeccable production across four dubby deep house tracks. With a masterful touch, Satoshi knows how to build and develop grooves that captivate. Side-1 opens with 'Lately Dub', a spacey, melodic, and addictive track with a deep groove that's both dubby and inviting. Next, 'Flying Toasters' brings a deeper, atmospheric sound perfect for early morning sets, drenched in a rich dub house vibe. On Side-2, 'BKLN' provides a minimal, slow-building groove that gradually pulls the listener into its hypnotic depths. Finally, 'Process' might just be the standout track, airy and heady with its hypnotic quality, yet all four cuts shine with their smooth, deep production. 12B Dub Part 2 shows why Satoshi Tomie's , enduring talents are always trusted. Review: Bjarnar & Jonas's last album back in 2023 was critically well-received and now it is back in all-new form as a selection of four classy remixes. First up it is Seven Villas label boss Pablo Bolivar who gets all blissed out and paddy on 'Bara', while Merv brings some nice smeared chords to the rolling, hypnotic dub of 'Erebus'. On the flip, Philip Priebe Saeti's take on 'Stratospheric Clouds' reworks it as a shimmering and bottomless dub lit up by some warming chords and last of all, Waage flips 'Anguta' into a dark, stark and punchy dub-tech monster that comes on like an unstoppable wall of noise. A quartet of seriously meaty sounds overall.

Darkness Is Around
Kranken Sister
Review: Dance newcomer Shonky debuts on Wicked Bass with 'The Way It Goes'l, an EP-length musing on means-biding and compromise. The titular opener lays down a swagged-out minimal electro-tech slinker against a hip pitched-down narration portraying the virtues of unerring calm under pressure or sameness in the face of change: a prodigal voice burrs, touting "the way I do... the way it goooes", resounding with a sturdily stylish blingy ring. A2 'Compromise' reveals equally how we'll just have to grin and bare it, though the suspenseful Italo strings and synths therein hardly let on this fact alone, instead offering a mood of boundless potential. B-siders 'Darkness Is Around' and 'Kranken Sister', meanwhile, move much more lo-fi, exposing the joyous horrors of breaking the treaties of compromise.

Review: DJ Sotofett returns with a double 12" packed with eight hard-hitting, underground techno tracks. Featuring frequent collaborators LNS, L.A. 2000, Ronny Nyheim, and Zarate_Fix, this release is a direct nod to the no-nonsense techno nights at Berlin's iconic Tresor club, where Sotofett holds residency. Each track is crafted with pure dancefloor energy in mind, moving through dub-driven techno, acidic overtones, and percussive basslines, all delivered with a raw, uncompromising edge. WANIA mk1 is a masterclass in DJ-ready versatility, perfect for those who love their techno stripped back and potent. Standout cuts include the bombastic, percussion-heavy Preparation and the 909-vocoder-fuelled My Spirit Is In Techno Music, both of which exemplify the release's dedication to the underground essence of the genre. With alternative mixes from WANIA mk2 making an appearance, the album offers both continuity and innovation, keeping true techno fans hooked from start to finish. Sotofett's attention to detail in programming, mixing, and mastering is evident throughout, making this a must-have for DJs and clubbers who live and breathe the core of real, unfiltered techno music. WANIA mk1 isn't just an album; it's a statement for those who value authenticity in their club experience.

They take the reins together across floor-focussed cuts that are marbled with deep pads and introspective sounds. Collaborating with friends and partners on several projects, they produced a number of influential records that defined the genre including under aliases such as Housey Doingz, 7th Voyage, and Space Bunny. This release on Sushitech, which always does a fine job of offering up the best tech house past and present, pays tribute to the studio and its collaborators with representative tracks carefully selected by Laurant Webb and label head Yossi Amoyal. Restored and remastered from rare DATs and pressed up to no fewer than six sides of vinyl, it's a great look at a significant moment in the evolution of tech house.

Review: M.A.N.D.Y and Booka Shade's creative collaboration brought us some of the most inspired tech-house and off-kilter house anthems of the noughties, not least 'Body Language' and 'O Superman', a Laurie Anderson-sampling number that was one of the most recognisable club cuts of 2008. Here it gets a fresh vinyl pressing, with the German outfit accompanying a freshly remastered take on their original mix (A1) with various old and new reworks. The fresh Man Power revision (A2) is the standout - a slow build delight that sees the long-serving Geordie producer reach for boisterous jazz-house breaks, raw TB-303 trickery, weighty bass and tidy tech-house stabs. The EP also boasts SIS's 2020 deep tech-house rub and Robag Wruhme's brilliant 2008 minimal techno re-wire, which remains one of the German's most impactful and off-kilter revisions.

Review: Cristian Sarde (aka. Mamosato, Samo) teams up with fellow techno tussler Bakked for an off-piste non-label release, sharing inverse sides of a single furtive black label record. Veering minimal, moving, and moribund, both staples of the Italian dance musical underground share what is implied to be their deepest, darkest and most exclusive thoughts, strictly for heads only; 'Love Tea' is an unusual track, fusing an almost early-noughts dubstep wriggle against an otherwise taut house groove; a move we don't see coming. Bakked meanwhile brings 'Effect171', on which a raw MPC-style jam - pleated with analogue rimshots and backsliding chords - is sown as the underlying field line onto which a dreamy sampled vocal admission, "I don't mind talking about it", may be heard. Both artists sound to have indulged a weirder side to their crafts, hence the labelless aside, and we love to hear it.

It's Lemieux at the controls for four cuts of well worked dance floor dynamite. opening up is the deft, loopy, trippy sound of 'Put It Out' which is from the Villalobos school of minimalism. Side-1 starts with '11 To Twilight,' a track that takes listeners on a journey through celestial soundscapes. Review: Some 20 years have now passed since Andreas Werner made his debut as Audio Werner. Since then, he's delivered countless underground classics, popping up on labels including Trapez Ltd, Perlon, Circus Company, Aku and, most recently, Adam's Bite. This expansive, double-vinyl EP sees him extend his production EP further via a first appearance on Metreze. Opener 'Sentiments', where gorgeous, drifting melodic motifs and immersive chords ride a shuffling, sub-heavy minimal house groove, is particularly enjoyable, delivering just the right amounts of beauty and low-end weight. There's plenty to set the pulse racing elsewhere across the EP though, with Werner generally fusing the tactile dreaminess of tech-house with imaginative, perfectly programmed tech-house and minimal house grooves - all underpinned by warm, weighty, dancefloor-focused sub-bass.

Review: The Kolony Gorky label hits release number four just a year after debuting last summer. This one again comes from DDrhode and opens with 'Ghoroob' which is a super nice and icy deep dub roller with smeared pads and heady ambient vibes. The dub slows things down and adds even more bottomless dub depths. 'DD2' (Sohrab dub) is a warm, peaker number but still very much a late-night and backroom jam and the Down The Rhode version of the A1 is a conscious classic with deep meaning and deeper rhythms.

Review: Back in 2022, James Burnham aka Burnski started a White sub-series of his much-hyped Instinct label and the first one sold out as quick as a flash. Now he is finally back with a follow-up that will likely do the same. This limited one-sided 12" slab of sonic filth features just one tune, but what a tune it is. '02' is a house cut with elements of garage percussion, old-school dirty bass, and even some trance-infused chords that chime with what's going on in the dance world right now. Some return horns at the breakdown really send it into overdrive and it's not hard seeing this one blow the roof off many a club this summer.

Review: Endell Street returns with a strictly limited 10" that features some rare gems that were originally produced back in the early naughties by Timmy S. Plenty of heads will know these have been expensive to cop on the second-hand market but now they have been restored and remastered by Yossi Amoyal in collaboration with Eukahouse's Nils Hess. Deep tech house doesn't get more authentic than this with the slick, driving drums and nocturnal pads of 'Wake Up' and the more percussive darkness of 'A Trip To London' both sounding superb.

Review: Burnski's Constant Black label puts out constantly good sounds for all those of a minimal and tech house persuasion. This 33rd such outing comes from Per Hammer who offers a trio of irresistible grooves. 'Everybody_hz' kicks off with rubbery drums and bass intertwining with each other while wonky synths up top add some tripped-out feels. A Varhat adds a little extra bounce and urgency to this silky late-night hypnotiser and then it's back to Hammer for 'The Danish URL'. It's a hooky groove with warped pads rippling up top while closer 'Arkivo' is a more textural and abstract affair with a nice dubby undercurrent.

Melodic electro-acid tempered by vocoder lines (the 'Vox Mix'), speedy 4x4 trance ('Supernova') and deeper-down-the-rabbit-hole tabfests ('Above & Beyond'). Review: Michael Mayer's fourth album, The Floor Is Lava, arrives after an eight-year wait, following his collaborative & album on !K7. Mayer's solo output has always been selective, with each release feeling like a significant moment. His previous albums, Mantasy and Touch, were similarly spaced out, but with good reason. As the head of Kompakt and Imara, a globe-trotting DJ, and a highly sought-after remixer, Mayer wears many hats, and it's no surprise his own productions are more sporadic. Yet, this also ensures quality. His name on a record sleeve signals music that's both forward-thinking and rooted in the past, deftly balancing the demands of the dancefloor and more reflective listening. The Floor Is Lava showcases Mayer's talent for threading together genres and eras while keeping a distinct sense of purpose. Whether it's designed for late-night clubs or a contemplative listen at home, Mayer's sound continues to evolve, pushing boundaries while remaining firmly anchored in his established style. As always, his knack for combining the exploratory with the functional shines through, and this latest offering is no exception.

Review: Burnski's superb Pilot label is back with more club-ready gold and this one is from Hatori Hanso. He opens up by covering the gorgeously deep and soul enriching sounds of a Pepe Bradock classic but reworks the pads into a more thumping breakbeat rhythm. 'My Chorus' is a soft acid delight with surging breaks heading off into the cosmos and 'I'm A Taker' then has a squelchy bassline to die for that dances about between snappy snares and lively kick drums. 'Kraulen' shuts down with some boogie energy, radiant chords and more crispy drum patterns for good time fun.

With three originals and a remix by Circus Company staple Dave Aju, the EP embraces both the physical and the abstract, delivering groove-laden basslines alongside spectral, almost otherworldly textures. 'Losing Track' sets the tone with its hypnotic pulse, while 'Climbers Pit' brings in Joli B and Danuel Tate for a rich fusion of keys, vibes, and Emaxx layering. The remix of 'Losing Track' by Dave Aju strips back the original and builds it up with fresh percussion, adding a modern twist that feels grounded yet forward-thinking. 'Youandthekitten' rounds things out with a playful but deep tech-house groove, keeping the energy consistent. Known for his discography with labels like Perlon, Kompakt, and Ostgut Ton, The Mole has cemented his place in the underground scene. This EP reminds listeners that he's still crafting imaginative dancefloor gems, while Aju's remix keeps things unpredictable. High Dreams is an understated yet bold continuation of The Mole's journey through both the cerebral and visceral spaces of electronic music.

Review: Those of a certain vintage will remember Iz and Diz, the production partnership between then Chicago-based producers Joshua 'Iz' Michaels and Dwayne 'Diz' Washington. They delivered a string of killer cuts in the early 2000s before parting company. Michaels has reappeared occasionally ever since, though this three-tracker is his first solo work as Iz for 20 years. A-side 'Hit Me Up', a driving slab of Chi-town house built out of muscular beats and killer disco loops, recalls his late-90s/early 2000s hey-day and will no doubt be on the radar of his old pal Derrick Carter. Over on side B, 'Vessel Dub' is a heady and saucer-eyed deep house excursion smothered in dub sonics, while 'Sunspace' is a sparkling, dreamy and slowly-building fusion of disco bass, sun-splashed synth sounds and huggable chords. Another killer on Ira James' Vessel Recordings label.

Described as having a "post-boing depth" by the label, shortly adjoined by the demand to "release your release", the EP first comprising 'Used To Say' and 'Smooth Liberation' sounds to have extracted an immortal bio-essence of garage from an otherwise perishable culture. Ultra-clean femme-vox cutups, and crispy but not pained rims and claves, ensure the A-siders strip garage of its oldskool oddities, offering a modern pristine grove of tricky but bassy sanitation. 'Gazer' and 'Nocturne Hedon' continue this by the record's midpoint, adding truncated timbale and 4x4 cosmic relief; then 'Aleph Null' and 'Cold Heat' return to swing, moving fuller, fog-choked future garage, and stoic, lamplit night-bump 2-step, respectively.

Can't Get Enough
Memorize Your Face (Aline Umber rework)
Review: Paul Cut receives a warm welcome to the Automatic Writing family with 'Memorize Your Face', a tongue-in-cheek gadfly of a minimal techno EP as they come. Building on a staunch reputation as one of the key figures of the French house scene - an accolade kept close to the chest for just over a decade - Cut here flaunts his production savvy with three light-hearted but still hypnotic house numbers, the likes of which are well-chiseled to fit even chinstrokiest dancefloor. All three tracks are glided over by whispery female vocals from an unknown source, tempering the transonic Chi-UK dialogue with interjections and adjoins such as, yes, "memorise your face" and "feel, real, dreams, dance". As spoken-word insistences sampled in club tracks go, these are comparatively laid back, though the B3's 'Can't Get Enough' is of course the most ravenous for more.

Review: OLO Records returns for its eighth edition with a powerful collaboration between Miroloja and Reboot, delivering three distinct tracks that span minimal, electro, and techno influences. The A-side kicks off with '9 Ufo's', an otherworldly minimal cut that keeps things deep and atmospheric. On the flip, 'Drip' leans into a more driving electro sound, while 'Daddyswing' closes the EP with a groovy techno touch, blending rhythmic sophistication with a dancefloor-ready energy. With early support from Ricardo Villalobos and exclusive digital gifts for vinyl buyers, this release is one to watch for those craving variety and quality in one package.

Review: By now a very well-recognised trailblazer of the minimal house and techno circuits, iO Mulen (Aleksandr Voznichenko) shares his third album, Rock Like This, through his own Mulen imprint. Refusing to fall back on heavy-handed press notes, the eight tracks on this perfect composite storm are enough to bewitch us of their own accord. These house and techno retrofusions play out like the kind of sounds that the impossible dangling contraption depicted on its front cover might generate; 'Rock Like This' throws back to Chicago deep house and jankout acid trance, magicking up a shockingly good fusion of disparate styles in a bionic mode, while the rising actions of 'How Do You Say' and 'Emergency' teem with twin enjoyments of and reverences for 90s Euro and acid techno. There are cosmic-trancier subplots on there too, such as 'I'm Waiting For', which selects its constituent sounds with an aesthete's ear, striking a difficult balance of the raw and the fine. Voznichenko refuses to privilege one referent genre over another, and it results in a respectfully done, carefully made and truly exciting dance record, unafraid of cheese nor sophistication, and reconciling the two.

Hey Brother
Review: The mighty Rawax has now put out more than 100 releases and they are all as timeless and useful as the next. Sublee steps up for this new slab of sound and kris off with 'v' which take sup the whole of the A-side but enervating outstays its welcome. It is a progressive house cut with a driving low end, plenty of grit in the percussion and pads that circle round to bring scale and a sense of cosmic adventure. 'Simple Two' slips into a deeper, more silky tech house vibe with lovely melodic patterns raining down from above. 'Hey Brother' shuts down with some dark breakbeats and mind melting synth leads that are pure peak time, post-rush fodder.

Review: Berlin-via-London record label and shop Lirica Archives present their latest, fourth V/A EP, cementing their name with a four-goal set of tuneful scores, each laid down in turn by local strikers Montei, Dani Labb, Light Blue File and Mich. We open with 'Good Combination', upon which a deathly, acousmatic voice surveils the dancer-listener from all sides, as a licking acid line putts away in the background, remarking, "I see a lot of tension... I don't know who you are, (but) there's a combination, there's a lot of love..." The inexorable relation of passion and tension thus established, the tone is set for a fittingly ravenous follow-up, 'Transiente', in which biologic basses thrum intuitively versus synthetic sound-tunnelings in the mid register; then 'Up Down Excl Rand' expands on this with its industrial hits and clasping crashes, not long before Mich's concluding 'Lidia' nods to a mostly dreamified, kickless Italo, by far the fluorescent highlight of the EP.

Review: Part one of Refuge's new La Decima V/A 12" series hears select tunes from select artists, all of whom have made significant contributions to the label's catalogue over the years. Spanning everything from firmly driven nu-disco to scratch n' sniff garage house to Chi-style stompers, we're more than enthralled by this well-rounded resonator. The best of the bunch has to be Demuir's 'Vibez High', which moves unabashed and stringy, its clawing claps, freeze-locked funk licks and scraping open hats painting a vivid street scene set outside the house.
