Review: Hip hop super group Run The Jewels aka Brooklyn-based rapper-producer El-P and Atlanta-based rapper Killer Mike continue to turn out new albums that continue to get a great reception. But at the same time, their old albums are still much sought after and so are being reissued. Run The Jewels 2 first came back in 2014 and received widespread acclaim from critics. They appreciated its darker, more layered production and Killer Mike and El-P's lyricism and chemistry and its guest contributions from the likes of Zach de la Rocha, Travis Barker and Diane Coffee.

World Famous (feat 45Trio)
Re Create #01
Review: Sometimes a record drops and you just know it's going to be hot. This is one of those records, an essential 7" from Bloom and Japanese talent DJ Koco aka Shimokita, who has been spinning 45s since 2011 and can juggle beats like Messi can juggle a ball. He is a favourite with the likes of Gilles Peterson and is likely to win many new fans with this one. 'World Famous (feat 45Trio)' is a gloriously jazzy, soulful sound with funk drum breaks and warm, organic percussive tumbling next to natty chords and a killer bassline. Add in the equally irresistible 'Re Create #01' on the flip and you have a sure-fire future classic, so do not sleep.

Let's Straighten It Out (cut Creator$ edit)
Review: Octave Lab, based in Japan, have embarked on a fresh series of 7"s, onto which the A-side comes pressed with a classic American funk and soul original, whilst the B, handled by a hip-hop hand in the classic stylee, Cut Creator$, flips things to harder and hipper effect. This time we meet again with O.V. Wright's 'Let's Straighten This Out', an omnipotent-sounding instrumental soul track cut from the superb record The Bottom Line. The track adjudicates and resolves, between romantic plaintiff and defendant, an egregious inter-relational tort, by way of ultra-slick, leaden strings and anodyne pianos: "sit yourself down, girl, and talk to me... tell me, whassa on your mind?"

The Auditorium Vol 1
Cat: LMVT 159241.1.
Review: Common and Pete Rock are two towering behemoths in the hip hop world. Rock is best known for his instinctive and distinctive beat making style and for plenty of seminal bums he has elapsed which showcase that, while Common is the next level lyricist, rapper and iconic freestyler who paints vivid pictures with his words. The Auditorium Vol 1 is a remarkable coming together of the two which arrives on limited edition coloured vinyl across four sides of wax. The groundbreaking collab blends all their considerable skills into a record that draws on the golden era but also shows a new future for the genre. It's richly layered and hugely rewarding, as you would expect.

Review: Scruniversal hit gold once more with this one from the label head Scruscru as well as Tony Lavurtz and DJ Pecan. This series is all about re-edits and reworks of old and rare records from Scru's friends' collections and first off is 'Pela Internet', a brilliantly sunny and percussive Brazilian number with great instrumentals and steamy Portuguese vocals. DJ Pecan steps up on the B-side with 'Marengo In Love' which is a more romantic sound for when the sun has gone down and you want to get up close and personal and gaze up at the stars while a sultry slow-motion funk groove unfolds.

Review: Willie Mitchell's 'Groovin'' has largely gone down in time as a hip-hop sample source par excellence, but that doesn't detract from its inherent original swagger. Now re-released via Octave Lab, we're once again reminded of the American bandleader's easy wrist-flicking grooves and organ pumps, with the star tune here representing a simple framing of funk and soul at its most essential, without fluff or pomp. Also on the B comes a version from Cut Creator$, whose reputation for mixing hip-hop sampling sources precedes them.

T Turns It Up

Altered Tapes - "T Turns It Up"
Platurn X Marvin - "PP Lays It Cool"
Review: Altered Tapes and DJ Platurn have teamed up for the next instalment in the Heat Rock series, taking on one of Marvin Gaye's most iconic soundtracks. It's already staple, but Side A sees Altered Tapes flipping the original into an even more break-heavy version, turning up the intensity with relentless drums and a sharp, percussive edge. The result is something that'll keep people on their toes, bringing an unmistakable punch to Marvin's already rhythm-driven classic. Meanwhile, Platurn's Side B remix stays a bit closer to the original, offering an extended version that's stemmed out for maximum DJ control. It's a more faithful reworking but still comes with extra flavourimore bounce, more groove, and more of the kind of energy you'd wish the original had packed. Perfect for DJs looking to keep the crowd moving, it's the sort of version you can build a set around, each element carefully considered to bring out the best in Marvin's timeless sound. Whether you're after a break-heavy flip or a DJ-friendly rework, this release has you covered.

Review: Def Radio marks the return of Marc Mac's long-running Visioneers project. As ever with Visioneers, this record reimagines the default stock of hip-hop's best-stocked jukebox, often beginning from scratch and/or working around a central sample, to either recontextualise a classic or come up with a new song; whatever the case, the key hallmark of a Visioneers album is its live instrumentation, with flaunts a *gauche et droite* mastery over hip-hop's laggard swing. Where this would usually handled by the chance placement of the sample snippet on the timeline alone, here it (sounds) actually drummed in. On Def Radio, lead tune 'The Look Of Love' predominates with its three-note ostinato and unhurried beat flaneur, whilst runner-ups 'Layin' Low, Gettin' High' and 'Cuban Candy Sticks' also stick out as salient among the troupe.

The drums have hints of hip-hop and neo-soul and are sure to warm through any Autumnal dancefloor in style. Flip it over and you will find the distinctly festive-sounding 'Sad Party' which has some warming drum breaks and lush feels, swirling wordless vocals and glowing melodies that all give off a rather Christmassy feel. Flexing his chops over the course of eight new porcine pressurisers - plus eight previously released crispy cuts and one bonus rasher - we hear over sixteen smackout, curly-tailed mud-rootlers come plated-up badboys here, packing edits of the likes of Black Eyed Peas, Beastie Boys, Digital Underground, Wu Tang, Ultramagnetic MC's and Missy Elliott among prize swine (this is the only context in which we'd ever call such artists swine). The nine-track record is an impressive merging of soulful souls, building on the pair's previous 'track-by-track' collaborative approach, and calling on influences from Quincy Jones to The Isley Brothers. Review: Keeping the ball rolling off the back of the smash success of viral megahit 'Nasty', American RnB singer Tinashe released her seventh studio album Quantum Baby to rave reviews. The second instalment in a trilogy kickstarted by 2023's BB/Ang3l, Quantum Baby focuses more on passionate, punchy club bangers full of double entendres and nods to her predecessors - namely Janet Jackson and Brandy on the opening track 'No Simulation' with its cult-like chants of affirmation, calling for true love above all. The album makes up for its lean tracklist with an airtight seal of quality - it also sees Tinashe really pushing the versatility of her sound more than ever before. For every 'traditional' r&b cut, there's an experimental counterpart in songs like 'Red Flag', with its Oklou-adjacent subtle synths, and the subdued drill basslines in 'Cross That Line'. Pressed on a blue and orange vinyl, reflective of the earthy aesthetics of the era, there's a lot to like about what Tinashe is doing right now.

Review: Roots Manuva's Run Come Save Me is a quintessential British rap record, showcasing a unique fusion of hip-hop with West Indian influences. Released in 2004, the album - his second - stands out for its inventive production and socially conscious lyrics. Roots Manuva's distinctive flow, reminiscent of DV Alias Khryst and Shabba Ranks, combines with beats that draw from garage, dub and electronica, creating a distinctive sound. Tracks like 'Bashment Boogie' and 'Witness (One Hope)' feature gritty basslines and pulsating rhythms, while 'Ital' offers a classic cipher vibe with compelling social commentary. The album's highlights include 'Sinny Sin Sins,' where Roots critiques religious dogma with incisive lyrics, and 'Dreamy Days,' which contrasts materialism with natural pleasures. His British perspective enriches the album, adding a unique cultural dimension. While some tracks like 'Trim Body' explore avant-garde territory, the overall effect is a powerful, fresh take on hip-hop. Run Come Save Me remains a significant and genre-defining work.

Review: Collecting together most of their 7" releases onto this, their first album, 45Trio's keyboardist Swing-O/45, bassist Sunapanng and drummer Masahiko Kubo provide fans with not only their sold-out singles on the same label but new tracks too. So, enjoy their version of Patrice Rushen's 'Remind Me' that pares back the original, sweetening further this already sweet composition by marrying Fender Rhodes with vocoder, or relish Irvine Weldon's 'I Love You', as the sensitive keyboard again takes centre stage. Get lost in Loose Ends' 'A Little Spice' which is fairly true to the original but more synthesised with a jazzy hip hop break and the jerky more downbeat version of Gary Davis' 2006 track 'Gee Dee' reflecting the trio's love of paying homage but creating a different and slower groove. On Bloom Music, a label under the Japanese Flower Records 'Soul Review' soulfully reviews Trio 45s work to date, a must for fans disappointed not to have got in quick enough when tracks were first available on 7" and also for those newly initiated. You're all in for a treat.

Review: If Detroit as a collective mind knows what's good for it, it'll note 8 Miles To Moenart as one of its most prized dance albums. Tall Black Guy's debut LP hears a tenth anniversary reissue edition via First Word; the artist known personally as Terrel Wallace recalls his humble Detroit beginnings; he was raised on an early staple diet of Motown, and the phono-dubbed source material of which is here heard breezily funnelled and assembled into ten gaunt, sample-flipping house numbers. But this new edition doesn't fail to switch things up either, in fact presenting it almost as a different record; two new tracks feature, 'From Home To Work, And Back' and 'Running The Motor', on top of an alt-mix of the single 'Mon Amie De'troit', previously only available on 7" vinyl. "While it's nice to reminisce,", says Wallace, "it's important to look forwards, so I wanted to include something new here to represent my progression as an artist, so there's some new versions included, that I created with the help of some jazz musician friends of mine."

Review: Rodney Smith, aka Roots Manuva, is a titan of Black British music, renowned for his genre-blending production that fuses hip-hop with reggae, dub, and electronic influences. His groundbreaking debut, Brand New Second Hand (1999), marked his entrance into the UK music scene with its introspective lyrics and avant-garde beats, establishing him as a seminal figure. Celebrating the 25th anniversary of Brand New Second Hand, a special 2LP edition on smoky vinyl will be released, featuring bonus tracks and a portrait print of Roots Manuva. Despite the acclaim for Run Come Save Me (2001), his debut remains crucial, offering potent dub poetry over beats reminiscent of DJ Shadow's style mixed with Linton Kwesi Johnson. The album stands as one of the first great UK hip-hop records, with a unique sound that continues to influence and define the genre.

Review: Adding to the immense new influx of Nujabes reissues comes this 6x7" box-set from Starbase Japan, which covers the entirety of the lo-fi hip-hop pioneer's original soundtrack contributions to the storied Samurai Champloo soundtrack. A classic anime series based on the bloody travails of samurai, and set in Edo-period Japan, Samurai Champloo is perhaps best known by its soundtrack, which consists almost entirely, and at first seemingly incongruously, of instrumental hip-hop - while the temporal disjunct of diegetic content and music might've seemed rum to some, true heads get the intuitive vibe; the combo was a compelling one, the real deal, and it was unsurprisingly crafted by Nujabes alone. This box-set consists entirely of 7"s, and includes the same songs and background music heard in the original series, as well as a special run of merch, in celebration of the series' 20th anniversary.

Let's Funk It Up
Review: Hot & Sassy's Christmas Strutt, originally released in 1980 and now reissued on 7", brings a festive funk groove perfect for the holiday season. On Side-1, 'Christmas Strutt', delivers infectious funk with a George Clinton/Parliament-Funkadelic vibe, blending classic funk rhythms with an early hip-hop flair. Many assume Run DMC pioneered the Christmas hip-hop track, but this jam predates them, offering an addictive, funky holiday groove that's hard to resist. Originals are rare, making this reissue a treasure for collectors and funk enthusiasts alike. On the flip side, 'Let's Funk It Up' serves as an instrumental version of Side-1, keeping the tight funk energy alive without vocals. This track lets the groove shine even more, making it a perfect DJ tool or a smooth, danceable tune for holiday gatherings.

Review: Producer, rapper and musician Kurious shares his new album Majician, cementing the legacy he's built in music since at least 1994. Harking back to the style and feel laid down on his debut A Constipated Monkey, Kurious continues to weave a lifelong tapestry of lyrical history and insight, whilst always remaining true to his most signature flow, ducking through and under each pocket in the beat. The tracks are as menacing as they are magnanimous: 'Separation Anxiety' is a personal excoriation by way of lyrical free association, while 'Par For the Course' renders drum breaks from the early Reagan era totally revitalised. The level of work Kurious poured into into Majician thus bolsters his reputation as one of the premier MCs of his time.

Review: cLOUDDEAD's debut album, a compilation of six 10" EPs released between 2000 and 2001, remains a quintessential example of abstract hip-hop. This expansive 3xLP, characterised by its dense, enigmatic soundscapes and avant-garde lyrics, has profoundly influenced a range of sub-genres such as cloud rap, hauntology, and lo-fi hip-hop. The trioiWhy?, Doseone, and Odd Nosdamiemerged from Cincinnati's vibrant underground scene, marked by events like Scribble Jam, and later moved to the Bay Area, where they helped establish the Anticon collective. Despite their shift to the West Coast, their Midwestern origins continued to shape their sound, rooted in the eclectic and experimental spirit of their early days. As noted in Chris Martin's liner notes, cLOUDDEAD's music was a unique blend of idiosyncratic vision and audacious experimentation. Each EP in this collection offers a distinct auditory experience. Tracks like 'Apt. A' and 'And All You Can Do Is Laugh' are emblematic of their surreal style, combining nonsensical lyrics and unconventional production. Nosdam's production seamlessly transitions from ambient textures reminiscent of Flying Saucer Attack to gritty drum breaks and esoteric samples. Restored by Nosdam and accompanied by a poster, this edition of cLOUDDEAD's pioneering sound, is the ideal version to get.

This project continues the narrative arc started with Baby Angel, an independently released mini-album that marked a significant creative leap for her. Quantum Baby opens with 'No Simulation,' a contemplative track that sets a low-key tone, aiming to introduce a deeper narrative. 'When I Get You Alone' offers a sultry groove, while 'No Broke Boys' stands out as a memorable anthem with a catchy beat. The album closes with 'Nasty,' a tracK that is sure to be a hit with all who play it. Overall, Quantum Baby has lots great moments.

Review: DJ Bacon's new edits LP Super Disco Raps takes two forms: firstly as a full-length 16-track LP, and secondly as a selectors' single edition, the latter of which you see here. 'Vol. 2' hears two extra remixes that did make the big disc's cut, but Bacon decided they also suited a limited edition 7" release for good measure. Playability is the implied reason: on the A we've a glossed-out disco scratch-tool remix of Wu Tang Clan's 'Gravel Pit', on which ghostly rap acapellas are laid to a lackadaisical funk beat, and on the B there's a similar version of Ultramagnetic MC's's 'Moe Luv's Theme', which loops and skips about an unmistakable four-beat, wax-scrubbing hook.

Diamond D, known for his groundbreaking work in the hip-hop realm, has crafted a compelling project that underscores his unmatched production prowess and keen ear for collaborations. In this era of fleeting musical moments, Diamond D's decision to split The Diam Piece 3 into three EPs is a refreshing approach. By releasing Initium first, with subsequent parts Duo and Tria planned for later, he ensures that each EP receives the attention it deserves, allowing listeners to fully appreciate the depth and nuance of his work. Initium features a stellar lineup of guest emcees, including KRS-One, Inspectah Deck and Skyzoo, delivering powerful performances over Diamond's signature hard-hitting beats. The EP's lead single, 'The Kings,' highlights Diamond's chemistry with KRS-One, offering a gritty backdrop that perfectly complements KRS's commanding delivery. This is an exceptional project that showcases Diamond D's artistry and dedication to hip-hop.

Review: Jenova 7's Lost Sci-Fi Movie Themes is an excellent blend of trip hop nostalgia and futuristic soundscapes. Across 16 tracks, he takes listeners on a journey through time and space, evoking the essence of '90s trip hop while exploring uncharted sonic territories. Standout tracks like 'The Future 1995,' 'My Zero G Love,' and 'Downtown Lost In The City Of Lizards' show Jenova 7's creativity of genre-blending and atmospheric storytelling. Jenova 7's ability to fuse moody, jazz-inflected samples with grooves that draw the listener in makes this album a cinematic journey through sound. Lost Sci-Fi Movie Themes is a unique album for fans of trip hop in particular and those simply looking for a transformative musical experience.

Review: The Leonhart Brass Band, the latest project from trumpeter Michael Leonhart, was born out of the 2020 lockdown, an inventive response to the halt of his 18-piece orchestra performances at NYC's Jazz Standard. Stripped down to a brass-heavy ensemble that could perform outdoors without amplification, Leonhart took inspiration from classic brass bands like Dirty Dozen and Rebirth, blending in hip-hop and funk influences to create a unique sound. The opening track, 'Jabbar', is a tribute to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the basketball icon with a rich jazz background. Centred on an infectious bass riff in C minor, Leonhart's trumpet and Jason Marshall's bass saxophone deliver bold, brassy solos, conjuring the vitality and strength of the track's namesake. Another standout is 'The Iceman', a nod to George Gervin, the basketball great known for his unflappable demeanour on the court. The brass section splits into two distinct groups, creating counterpoint melodies that mirror Gervin's grace and intensity. Stuart Bogie's baritone sax solo, complete with tape echo, adds an unexpected texture, grounding the track in a deep, funky groove. With members from Antibalas, the Dap-Kings, and Red Baraat, the Leonhart Brass Band fuses tight musicianship with an exhilarating energy that carries the weight of New Orleans tradition, while forging its own path in the modern jazz and funk worlds.

Review: Eminem's new album, Guilty Conscience 2, marks a bold return to his Slim Shady persona with a fresh angle that deepens his thematic exploration. With album sales over 220 million records worldwide, including albums, singles, and other formats, it is hard to argue that Eminem isn't the voice of this generation in Hip-Hop. As he turns 50, Eminem revisits and critiques his notorious alter ego, presenting Slim Shady as a relic of toxic masculinity and outdated rage. The album's first half channels Shady's provocative style, while the latter part reflects a more mature and contemplative Eminem. The production strikes a balance between modern sensibilities and nostalgic nods to earlier works, offering some of the best beats and hooks Eminem's had in years. Guest features, including JID and Big Sean, complement his intense delivery, enhancing the album's impact. While the content remains provocative, it effectively engages with its themes, providing a nuanced critique of both Eminem's past and the current cultural landscape. Fans of his earlier work will find much to appreciate here, though it may not break new ground. Overall, Guilty Conscience 2 is a compelling chapter in Eminem's storied career.

Review: The latest release from the TakeFingz label, DJ Katch's 7" single, dives into the blaxploitation soundscape with a fresh twist on a classic 80s hip-hop track. This installment, the fourth in Katch's series, reimagines Grandmaster Flash's iconic 'The Message,' splitting the track into two sidesiScene A and Scene B. Side-1 features an extended funky loop, evoking the feel of a hero driving into the sunset during the credits, while still retaining a vibrant dance floor groove. Side-2 offers a stripped-down, choppier version, perfect for DJs to mix or scratch. Katch's rework celebrates 50 years of hip-hop with his signature style, blending streetwise funk and jazz with distinctive samples and iconic verses. Played by notable DJs like The Allergies and Craig Charles, this release showcases Katch's talent for creating a "furtive" sound, blending classic hip-hop with a touch of cinematic flair.

Review: Eminem's latest album marks a bold and thoughtful effort to revisit and redefine his Slim Shady persona. Emphasising a concept album format, Eminem wants fans to experience the project in sequence, aiming to dissect and reflect on Slim Shady's controversial legacy. The album's first half brings back Slim Shady's provocative edge, addressing contemporary issues like cancel culture and Gen Z with a raw, unapologetic energy. Drawing from the darker corners of his past work, such as Encore and Relapse, the production provides a gritty backdrop that enhances the thematic exploration. Eminem's self-reflection is both daring and introspective, with tracks like 'Guilty Conscience 2' presenting a powerful narrative of putting Slim Shady to rest. In the latter half, the album transitions to a more reflective Eminem, offering familiar yet heartfelt insights into his personal journey and struggles. The album's production and moments of clarity showcase Eminem's continued evolution as an artist. This ambitious project stands out in a year of exceptional rap music, highlighting Eminem's enduring relevance and creativity.

Review: Soulful, interludey new LP bizniss from Conway The Machine, returning with his first full-length offering of 2024, Slant Face Killah. Subverting the pop cultural trope of the "smiley face killer" - through which the macabre horror of serial murders is subverted by an unsettling appeal to pure happiness - The Machine breaks down this trope with fervour, unleashing his killer insincts upon a mic that knows both gleeful and grim bars. Aggressive, gung-ho lyrics abound across this deft mixture of hard gangsta beats and serene, sampledelic breakdowns, which also channels an impressive feature list including Method Man, Raekwon, Joey Bada$$, Larry June, Key Glock, Jay Worthy & more, and production from heavyweight producers such as The Alchemist, Daringer, Conductor Williams, Cardo, and Swizz Beatz.

Review: The Raw Factor by Omniscence is a long-awaited gem from the mid-90s era of hip-hop, finally seeing the light of day after 28 years. Originally scheduled for release in 1996 but delayed due to record label politics, this album is a testament to Omniscence's skill as an MC and Fanatic's prowess as a producer. The album features punchline-driven lyrics from Omniscence, delivered in his unmistakable cadence, and backed by head-nodding production from Fanatic. Tracks like 'Amazin' and 'Touch Y'all' showcase Omniscence's lyrical strength, while Fanatic's beats provide the perfect backdrop, blending jazz elements with boom-bap drums. The Raw Factor is an album to check out for fans of 90s hip-hop, giving off a glimpse into a time when lyricism and production were at their peak.

Review: A$AP Rocky makes a major return with his new album Don't Be Dumb, marking his first full-length project since 2018's Testing. The Harlem rapper recently previewed three unreleased tracks, adding to the excitement without leaking any full audio online. Don't Be Dumb is expected to showcase Rocky's signature blend of innovative production and sharp lyricism. The album's title hints at a bold, unapologetic approach, and the snippets played suggest a continuation of Rocky's boundary-pushing style. Fans are eager to see how this project will compare to his previous works, especially with the intrigue surrounding tracks like the controversial 'Taylor Swift,' which stirred up conversation with its pointed lyrics. As Rocky's first album in six years, Don't Be Dumb is poised to be one of the most talked-about releases for the latter half of 2024, with fans and critics alike eagerly awaiting its drop.

Review: Sean Price's 'How Sean P! Stole Christmas' is a festive banger from 2012 that embodies the Brooklyn rapper's signature blend of wit and aggression. Produced by Khrysis, the 7" single features a dirty, clean, and instrumental version, all pressed on limited edition Neon Green Vinyl. Price's playful yet menacing delivery, paired with Khrysis's gritty production, delivers a Christmas anthem unlike any other. While the titular theft may be a light-hearted conceit, Price's sharp rhymes and the track's overall energy are sure to get any party going, even if it's a bit naughty.

Pleasure (Lex remix)
Review: Since 2019, Ryozo Band have attracted the attention of fans both in their native Japan and overseas, owing to their deft workings in the realm of jazz-funk and fusion, all tempered by a buzzing affective irreverence. In 2023, they released the 'Utopia' EP, and now follow up said award-winner with yet another, equally affecting EP-form homage to all things felicific and dopaminergic: 'Pleasure'. Kicking off with an impressive, minimalist keyboard exposition, the Ryozo formula soon unfurls as a counterpoint of uptempo wrist-flicked drumming and two horns in unison, overlaid further by sax, trumpet and synth saw. Heavily borrowing from rhythmic and vibeish trends in the current UK jazz scene, 'Pleasure' is a synaptic surge of various sonic serotonins and oxytocins, amounting to what is best describable both as a qualitative and quantitative hedonic calculation in jazz.

Live In London 1995 FM Broadcast
Review: Now here's a real slice of East Coast hip-hop history, packaged for those Londonites who - even as far back as the early to mid 90s - felt the genre's magnanimous influence deeply, despite the transatlantic journey required of its promotion outside the USA. Existing only so far perhaps on bootlegged white label vinyl marked "Import" in big block lettering, this mythical live recording of The Notorious B.I.G.'s 1995 performance at the Hammersmith Palais in London (as part of Tim Westwood's 1FM Rap Show Launch Party) otherwise floats the interwebs either in casual YouTube video or cassette rip format. Clocking in at just over 50 minutes, Big Poppa's tragic ghost sounds to haunt the record, masterfully moving through his most hard-boiled, ironed songs in quick sixteen-track succession, chopping and changing between them through the adeptest of DJ scratchups; the hypiest, airhorn-blariest transitions. All Biggie's greatest hits feature (he'd released most of his chart-toppers by 1995; this recording was made two years before he died) and the heavy douse of reverb, supplied by the venue, lends an extra historic gravitas to Smalls' not-so-small voice. The acapella at the end is an especially grave, hushed moment; it's as if the lack of instrumental backing portends the many moments of silence that would follow two years later.

Review: Toby Gee's Lowrider 7" delivers a fresh spin on two iconic tracks, turning them into fun party-fuelling artillery. On Side-1, the Racked Mix of 'Lowrider' reimagines Cypress Hill's classic into an underground groove, infusing it with a darker, more rhythmic vibe that keeps the original's essence while bringing something entirely new to the table. On Side-2, the Cracker Mix of 'Vanilla Bop' takes Vanilla Ice's 'Ice Ice Baby' and transforms it into a lively jam band groove. The crisp scratches and expertly crafted edits to the original vocals add a layer of excitement, making it a perfect floor filling track that's sure to get attention.
