  2. Wheel Of Time
  3. Echolab
  4. Cyclotron
Review: Kicking off Damo B's (The Outta Limits Radio Show) new EMOTEC imprint is 'The Orbital Resonance EP' from MOY.
With previous releases on Batrachian, AC Records and Touched Electronix, MOY comes in hard with a perfect start for this new label. With 4 cuts of deep and emotional music the London producer weaves a rich tapestry which straddles deep house, electro and breakbeats with ease, all tied together with cosmic acid lines for the mind and bass lines for the waistlines... this EP has it all!

Exit Planet Earth: Helium
  1. Carl Finlow - "The Oberth Effect"
  2. Plant43 - "Forcefield Deactivation"
  3. Mr Ho & Xiaolin - "No Change To How I Feel"
  4. Alfred - "Galaxy Quest"
Review: The Exit Planet Earth vinyl series continues onto it's 5th edition with a finely balanced release of electro, techno and breakbeat cuts.A

Carl Finlow - The Oberth Effect kicks off the record with a mind bending trip to the dark side of electro, delivering a masterclass in multi-layered synth sound design, rolling bass lines and Finlow's expert production. A fellow electro master Plant43 delivers his debut release for 20/20 Vision - Forcefield Deactivation following a pioneering run of records over many years for Semantica, Bleep43 and Cultivated Electronics.A

Crossing continents to Asia, the flip side features a collaboration between Hong Kong based producers Mr. Ho & Xiaolin (Klasse Wrecks). 'No Change To How I Feel' is a unique sign of the times. A deep techno track served with a heavy 4/4 kick, perpetually evolving arpeggios, quick fire hats and a haunting vocal. Leeds based producer Alfred completes the release with a sound forged from intricate drum sequencing and strong chords and melodies. Alfred is an exciting new talent that manages to connect the dots between breakbeat and electro.

Review: London-based Texan via Spain, Chupacabras continues to ramp up his ice cold output with another clutch of neck-snappers. Raw analogue funk from start to finish, the EP takes off where his L.I.E.S EP left us as 'No End' kickstarts the collection of thumping electro and brutalist grooves with a Black Strobe-like bass wobble and tempestuous drums. It's backed up by the robotic motion and gritty sheen of 'Growing Pains', the b-boy style drums of 'Basic Programm' and the final heave-ho of the set: 'Down My Spine', an overdrive dark electro jam you could just as easily picture Dave Clarke playing it as you could DJ Stingray. Savage.

Review: Since launching in 2018, Constant Sound's electro-fired offshoot Inflitrate has put out some superb music from artists including such admired old hands as Borai, London Modular Alliance and Ste Roberts. On the label's first missive of 2021, it welcomes Relpek AKA Constant Sound regular Kepler (both aliases of Leeds-based Matthew Farrow). What we get is a series of well-made and well thought out electro numbers that combine punchy beats and fuzzy analogue basslines with a variety of spacey and ear-catching musical elements (lead lines, chords, riffs etc). Rumbling and far-sighted A-side cuts 'Nova' and 'Binary' are arguably the toughest and most club-ready, while 'Celestial' and 'Delay' are a little deeper and more melancholic in tone. Impressive stuff all told.

Crushed (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: VIS 323. Rel: 07 Jun 21
  1. Proton Mass
  2. Centronix
  3. Axiom
  4. Cascade Lasers
Review: Carl Finlow has been a prominent name in UK electro since the mid-90s, releasing music at an astonishing rate under a variety of monikers. Silicon Scally defines his most strictly electro-oriented project, reflective of the Kraftwerk era and the emerging electro-scene, with releases on respected labels such as Cultivated Electronics, CPU and of course 20/20 Vision, with music from a variety of Carl's monikers being amongst the labels earliest releases.

'Crushed' is a sought after album project originally self-released on Finlow's Bandcamp during the 2020 lockdown. We felt the release was to important to be overlooked without a much deserved run of vinyl, so have pressed a limited run of records featuring futuristic electro highlights and the best unreleased cuts.

'Proton Mass' kicks things off with perfectly crafted robotic funk, solid mechanical breaks and mind bending glitches, setting the landscape for a journey into the abyss with Silicon Scally unshakeably at the helm. 'Centronix' follows up with razor-sharp rocking beats, squelchy bass and jarring grooves as if designed for high pace no nonsense club sets from the likes of DJ Stingray or Helena Hauff.

On the flip side 'Axiom' takes us deeper into the void with dark basslines, complex drums and unapologetically disorientating frequencies. A track that makes us question if Finlow has transcend to a future state where he is more machine than man, sending psychoactive messages in the form of killer electro cuts.

'Cascade Lasers' wraps up this epic dose of electro with interstellar energy, driving things home with deep bass wobbles, high octane breaks, wrapped grooves and tormenting yet playful synth licks. Yet another release that has us convinced the late great Andrew Weatherall was indeed correct!

"For quite a number of years now I have been convinced that Mr Finlow is a conduit for musical transmissions beamed from a parallel universe, sometime in the future" - Andrew Weatherall

Cat: VIS 324. Rel: 12 Jul 21
  1. Caged
  2. Caged (Hardfloor remix)
  3. Curvature
  4. Replicants
Review: 20/20 Vision present the debut release from Manchester based artists Armec. Following releases for Cultivated Electronics and Furthur Electronix, the Caged EP hits the ground running - with a record that spans heavy club-ready electro and futuristic soundscapes. Complete with a hefty remix from German acid connoisseurs Hardfloor.

'Caged' sucks us down the rabbit hole with dense textures fortified by an infectious groove, vast pads, and bubbling synth lines. The Hardfloor remix of 'Caged' submerges us into an acidic electro trip - fuelled by quirky melodic licks, a menacing low-end and body shaking drums.

On the flip side 'Curvature' is an out-and-out understated bomb. Propelled by a squelching, supercharged bassline which soars over Armec's signature textural landscape, it's reinforced by razor sharp hats and a heavy kick-drum. 'Replicants' is a side-winding, emotionally charged cut that feels truly fresh and forward-thinking. Deep, luscious pads are underpinned by a superbly engineered break-beat driven groove.

Review: The Alien Communications universe expands with addition of a new sister imprint Space Dust. It kicks off with Bolam's adventurous Suspended Animation EP, a trip though space powered by a stylish mix of electro and techno. 'Florion Heights' sets off on the vogue with slippery drums and synths and nice cosmic pads that lead to a euphoric crescendo. 'Comfort Zone' has a more pensive and thoughtful vibe thanks to the suspensory pads and last of all, 'The Mothership' slows right down on churning drums with hopeful rays of melody shine through.

  1. Interlinked
  2. Ancient Voice
  3. The Silent Flock
Review: 'Interlinked' is the fifth release on Emile Facey's new imprint, however the title track was originally written just after the UK's EU referendum in 2016. Having forged many strong musical ties with other European countries over many years, the UK's vote to leave the EU left him feeling disconnected and saddened. Now that the UK has left the EU and musicians try to navigate the impact on electronic music, a culture that thrives on being completely 'interlinked' he felt it was time to release this track that expresses that sadness but also conveys some hope for a future in which music can connect us all again. The B side starts with the driving urgency of 'Ancient Voice', future electro designed to move dance floors when they return. Closing track 'The Silent Flock' is a slower, more contemplative expression of discovery and hope.

Review: "Decada 2’s musical and visual playfulness trailblazed the electronic scene in Mexico in the mid-80s. The project channels Mateo Lafontaine’s luminous mind and otherworldly persona into an audible experience. The Mexican producer is a sonic alchemist, exploring and combining a multitude of electronic genres. The result - Mateo’s interpretation of the club music zeitgeist.
2020 marked not only 35 years of Decada 2 but also the sudden passing of Mateo.
Philoxenia is proud to present Decada 2’s first vinyl release, a testimony to the legacy of a pioneer of electronic music in Latin America. These remastered tracks showcase Mateo’s unique take on EBM, proto-house and early rave sound, ranging from the mid-80s to the early 90s."

  4. E-606
Review: "Arsonist Recorder lands on 20/20 Vision with his debut EP ‘Geist’. Following outings on Specimen Records, Diffuse Reality, Bass Agenda and his own imprint ZwaarteKracht. The EP sees Arsonist Recorder continue his exploration into groovy dark-matter electro- beats and abstract, abrasive sound-design. The title track ‘Geist’ kicks things off with deep Drexciyan bass and disorientating synth, an all out electro assault on the senses that sets the pace for the four track EP. ‘YvY’ follows this up like a 90% proof chaser, committing you to the land of no return as perfectly crafted drum patterns lay down heavy robotic funk with driving bass lines complimented by a peppering dark synth melodies.

On the flip side ‘Rauch’ switches things up with rapid fire pad work, serving up fast paced breaks in a dose of hyper speed electro grooves. Wrapping things up E-606 forges an evocative robotic war cry, firing on all cylinders with restlessness club-rocking rhythms.

With previous releases catching the attention of the late Andrew Weatherall as well as Detroit’s electro Don, DJ Stingray, Arsonist Recorder is definitely not one to sleep on!

Get your fix of futurist electro beats on his new Storm Control EP, with the same quality that has garnered releases on Shipwrec, Central Processing Unit and AC Records in recent times. Review: Back in 2018, previously unheard artist James Infiltrate impressed via a punchy EP of club-focused electro numbers. It later emerged that the mysterious producer was none other than Constant Sound founder Burnski. Here he dons the alias once more for a full-length excursion three years in the making. It's a fine album, too, with the long-serving producer delivering a winning combination of punchy, club-ready beats, sci-fi fired synth sounds, moody Michigan bass and the kind of authentically spacey atmosphere that has long been associated with the greatest electro records. There's also enough subtle variety in terms of tempo and style to guarantee that you'll not get bored of it any time soon. Highly impressive, but did we really expect anything less?

Review: 300 limited edition blue release of Bangkok-based child of Detroit Scott Hess returns with the latest in his vinyl-only 'Redlight' series.

Welcome to the interplanetary voyage of Redlight volume 2, the stunning result of a prolonged spell of concerted studio exploration by musician, DJ and producer, Scott Hess. During the enforced lockdown that much of the world endured earlier this year, Scott took the opportunity to hit the sonic laboratory harder than ever before, and the result is some of his most accomplished work to date.

Undoubtedly blessed with the essence of his Motor-city birthplace, there exists, too, a distinct extraterrestrial yearning in the music. Add to this a sense of cabin-fever-induced paranoia, and the result is a complete and coherent collection that's as funk-flecked as it is experimental in nature.

The heavy electro-fuelled flavour of 'Sirius City' is designed to activate maximum booty-shaking. Summoning some kind of soul dirt, Scott gets the beats clapping over futurist refrains and an almighty intergalactic top-line to .

On 'Stars', Scott invited friends from all corners of the planet to contribute vocal textures, with each of them supplying spoken word proclamations of various stars and constellations for him to skilfully work into the cut. The music evolves delicately but purposefully, with carefully placed textures complimenting the vibe-rich synth hook.

On 'Call Me, Acid' we find Scott in an adventurous mood. Bubbling bass provides a bed for idiosyncratic synth lines to meander over tight snares and other-worldly textures. The bold arrangement leaves room for each part to have its say before allowing the brooding acid to take to the fore.

'UFO' tips a respectful cap to a golden age of Detroit house and techno soul, with its heavy pads, crunching snares and infectious 303. Arguably the most club-ready cut on the 12", yet still endowed with a star-gazing quality of production and tone.

Review: Six releases in and Michigander label head Brian Kage teams up with the legendary French Techno producer, Taho, aka David Jacopin. The electronic music world knows to put respect on the Motor City, but the "Detroit EP" represents a fusion, emphasizing l'accent aigu - not a typo or spec on your screen that needs cleaning. Between Kage and Taho, their production pedigree includes releases for labels like FXHE, Planet-E, Delsin, F.Comm, and more, so it's no surprise the pairing makes for a masterfully produced EP covering the spectrum of Detroit house and techno sounds, with an added deft touch from its French connection.
