Review: Taking fully after Scientist's original formula of weighty sonics combined with comical covers, producer Sub Basics puts a welcome deep dubstep spin on such things with their fresh new 12", 'Lift Off' and 'Shipment'. This is essentially 'Scientist Gets In a Row With the FedEx Courier' but better: this intergalactic shipment is full to the brim with pre-cut dubplate PVC, adding a legitimacy to the argument: to abet the transportation of such immensely valuable items rarely results in an entirely smooth or unstressful operation; rows are almost bound to ensue. Fittingly, on pressing play, we are compelled to move with the ambition of a freight ship's lightspeed, motorically reacting to both tracks' sub-50hz singularities with a total instinctual reflexivity.

Review: A charged, limber ode to Britain's 90s outdoor free party stomping grounds, with which a young Low End Activist was all too familiar. Over nine evocatively named tracks, he fractures and reassembles early 90s hardcore shards (shardcore?) into wabi sabi sonic sculptures somewhat resembling similar rave reconstitutions from Skrs and Fracture. These feel more to the point than both though, foregoing free sample-bashing in favour of driving, sparse, repetitive hoover collage landing firmly within the hardcore continuum but still managing to sidestep cloying nostalgia. Review: The UK's Hamdi, formerly Hamdiman, has been a formidable presence on the dubstep scene since at least god knows when. We're therefore delighted to note his debut release on the instrumental dubstep label Deep Medi, proving that the often elusive but no less prolific Mala-run label still has their finger on the pulse when it comes to championing next-gen talent. 'Simplicity' recalls the tripletty experiments of the more experimental, nay brutal players in dubstep, with 'Killa' barely indulging even so much as a hint of reverb, except for on the titular sample. The 6/8 timing continues throughout, with 'Second Mouse' utilising a surreal "why?" sample amid sudden stops and tricky hi-hat creeps-upward. The sendoff 'Simplicity', finally, pays homage to an earlier apogee of the scene, perhaps nodding at Coki's raw and unpolished growly sound heard in his 'Spongebob' era.
