Vivien Vee - "Remember"
Review: Italo-Disco, (at times abbreviated as Italo) is a music genre which originated in Italy and was mainly produced from the late 1970s to the late 1980s. The origin strongly tied to marketing efforts of the ZYX record label, which began licensing and marketing the music outside Italy in 1982. The genre faded in the early 1990s.

Italo disco evolved from the then-current dance music (including hi-NRG) and developed into a diverse genre. The genre employs drum machines, synthesizers, occasionally vocoders and usually sung in English.

This compilation contains some of the long lost tracks of the genre restored for the first time on CD. Vivien Vee "Remember" and Capricorn "I Need Love," are early work by Italian pioneer Claudio Simonetti (Goblin). All tracks digitally remastered along with its booklet, the original artwork and the original recording and extended versions.

Give Your Love A Chance (feat Clara Hill - Dimitri From Paris 2014 Re edit - DJ Kawasaki edit)
Review: Who doesn't love a good edit? And who really does them much better than Danny Krivit, a veteran of the game with millions of them (probably) to his name. Here he turns his hand to Sjuya Okino's 'Thank You (feat Navasha Daya)' which is a jazz dancer with effervescing broken beats, busy chords and live percussion under a freeform scat vocal that brims with soul. On the flip, DJ Kawasaki edits a Dimitri Form Paris mix of 'Give Your Love A Chance (feat Clara Hill)' which has a Chic-style bass riff and big disco energy that's ripe and ready to bring good times to any party.

Review: Heat Rock has previously been home to plenty of superb King Most flips but here he returns to KM after the head-turning inaugural release, this second outing is another super fun blend of classic beats and vocals. Sunny R&B and neo soul vocals, natty guitar riffs that bring the funk and a fat, rolling dub sound on the flip, making for two fine collisions of different worlds.

Review: Stepping up to re-conduct the AC Soul Symphony is the extremely funktastic Opolopo with 3 brand new remixes, strictly on 12" wax. Up first it's all aboard the AC Express where he diverts the train through new stations such as, Boogie Town, Moog Avenue, Funk Boulevard & Soul Street Plaza. Opolopo then takes an AC fan favourite 'Windy City' to the dancefloor, upping the tempo, adding in layers of boogiefied synths and giving soulful heart of the track a nice glow up. On the flip is Opolopo's epic take on the 'Six Billion Dollar Man' giving it a true Scandinavian space disco sound. Upgrading the arpeggios & sci-fi fx's to 11 all whilst letting the sublime string sections take centre stage, where they should be with any AC Soul Symphony track. Better, Stronger, Faster...

Review: 'Super Disco Edits Brazil Jazz Funk' is the imaginative title of this well-tagged edits V/A from Legofunk, charting wah-heavy lollops round the May tree across several standout stomps, from Alexny, Alkalino, Scruscru and Lego himself. All turning their hands to Afro-funk freak succours of impossible-to-rediscover-except-for-if-you're-a-true-connoisseur origin, we're thoroughly dazed and confused at the soft wah contusions of 'DDB' and the recumbent ocean laps of 'Harina De Maiz', perfect for hammock lazing.

Review: The Funkyjaws label is back with a second in its Discolifting series and once again it's the sort of 12" that you cannot pass up. Markus "Delfonic" Lindner is the man behind this project and is no stranger to blazing hot grooves on labels like Razor-N-Tape and Disco Disco. Here he turns things up once more with the red hot 'Sister' getting things underway on a nice organic groove, 'Disco Party' then brings some funky undertones, 'You Can Get It' has a steamy edge and plenty of soul worked into the melodies and 'Roommate' shuts down with another irresistible mix of the old and the new.

Let The Sunshine In (edit By Mr K)
1, 2, 3 (Mr K Extension Of Walter Gibbos Melting Pot Acetate)
Review: Ready for summer festivals, outdoor dances and sun-soaked boat parties, disco's longest serving re-editor Danny Krivit brings his "Mr K Edits" project to Fatty Fatty Phonographics for the very first time. Saluting the sun, he drops a fine, extended edit of suitably big gospel soul/disco number 'Let The Sunshine In', cannily building towards a grandiose, life-affirming conclusion full of righteous group vocals and impassioned male lead vocals. On the flip, Krivit reworks an obscurity from Walter Gibbons' private collection of one-off acetates. Originally pressed to a seven-inch, Krivit's version extends the extra-percussive, jazzy, infectious and celebratory disco obscurity for added dancefloor pleasure. Like the majority of Krivit's edits, it's a masterclass in club-focused rearrangement.

Review: Pete Blaker has been making head-turning (or rather head-nodding) moves of late and he continues his run of form on the excellently named Funkyjaws Music label. This fourth instalment in the Discolifting series kicks off with 'Zulu', a nice fat-bottomed and dubby Afro disco sound with a super sweet vocal and some funky guitar riffs. 'Instrumental' then steps out with more widescreen synths and snappy low ends with more than a hint of 'Bakerman' groove goodness. 'See The Light' is lavish and bright disco with 80s synths and 'Heaven' closes with a more subdued and introspective sound.

Review: This next instalment in the Spring Revisited series through Ace Recs pulls two deep cuts from Fatback Band's 1978 LP Fired Up N Kickin and hands them to two remixers with a close eye on soul-funk lineage. On the A, Joaquin Claussell turns in a Sacred Rhythm version of 'Snake', reframing its rubbery groove with extended percussion and devotional sweep. Flip it for Kon's Cool Out Remix of 'Chillin' Out', originally a digital-only drop earlier this year and now deservedly on wax, dialling up the track's warmth and swing without losing its easy-loping charm. Pressed on 12" and dressed in era-faithful design, this release keeps the Spring rework series on strong footing.

Review: Dynamite Cuts continue their hot streak of essential 7" reissues with two soulful gems from North Carolina-born soul legend Johnny Bristol. Best known for his silky vocal style and smooth songwriting, Bristol's original recording of 'I Wouldn't Change A Thing' is presented here in all its lush, upbeat gloryia joyous rare-groove dancer that later found fame through Coke Escovedo's version. The flip, 'Lusty Lady', slows the tempo slightly, opening with a crisp drum-break before unfolding into a seductive mid-tempo groove, complete with lush strings and understated funkiness. Both tracks showcase Bristol's soulful delivery and production finesse, making this 7" an essential reissue for collectors and DJs alike.

Review: Monsieur Van Pratt is the venerated rare groove maestro who invites us back into that world with a new EP of sizzling disco that comes steeped in "the essence of Japanese disco." Although there is a vintage and authentic feel to these cuts, the contemporary edge means they have a more universal appeal, starting with 'Message Of Love' with its driving drums and moody melodies. 'Shyness' is a smooth and dreamy sound that brings a lovely soulful edge and 'Valuable Love' that rises up with more energy and melodic positivity. This is more dynamite from the one and only Pratt.

Review: A-grade disco don Monsieur Van Pratt shares duties on his latest missive with so-called "cosmic funk slinger" Disco 86 as both artists take one side each. MVP is first up with 'Lovers' with its saucy male vocals and funky basslines littered with Chic-style hooks. 'All I Do' layers in plenty of filtered synths and noodling bass hooks to a classic vocal and then it's over to the B-side. 'Shoot Me Baby' is a low-slung and sleazy sound with smooth and sexy vocals and meandering bass. 'Disco Galaxy' is a more upbeat sound with funky brass, leggy drums and a lavish arrangement that is full of action. Another unmissable platter in this new limited Illegal Disco series.

Review: Long-serving London-based edit legends Psychemagik are back in full swing after a somewhat sporadic release schedule in recent years, showing up here with the sixth instalment of their 'Undercover Lovers' series. As expected, the music is precisely on point, with familiar, pop-flavoured songs presented through an off-kilter lens. First up, an obscure cover of Phil Collins' bittersweet 'Another Day In Paradise' gets the scalpel treatment, with tropical energy abounding as the melancholic melodies echo in the breeze. On the reverse, we find an equally esoteric version of BT Express' 'Do It Til You're Satisfied', with synth horns riding over throbbing bass and seductive vocals. Lord only knows where they find their source material, but one can't help but admire the duo's formidable digging chops.

He debuted in 2023 and has landed on labels like Gamm and this one before now, always making a mark in the process. 'Ti Voglio' starts with some fiery Latin vocals and big strings straight from a Philly disco classic. 'Venus' has a fat low end and stepping groove with plenty of lavish instrumental flair, and 'To Be The One' is a filter-heavy, funky-disco cruiser for good times only. The track flows with lush Rhodes keys, a rolling bassline and Striplin's silky vocals all creating a timeless blend of jazz-funk and r&b. Ayers's production is warm and hypnotic, letting each instrument breathe while building a dreamy, late-night vibe and though somewhat overlooked in its time, 'Searchin'' has since become a rare groove classic and a perfect snapshot of Ayers's melodic genius and Striplin's understated vocal allure.

Review: Funk Machine marks a second release on Big Baba Record for Elado who goes big with four electrifying tracks that are perfectly tooled for open-air and summer dancefloors. The title cut brings big, bright, bold disco-house anthem vibes with full-throttle vocals and piano stand, 'People' has a more Italo-disco vibe with an infectious vocal hook and nice retro bassline and 'Jah Noon' is a club-ready remix of a rare Yemeni groove that melts disco and indie-dance with an oriental twist. Last of all is the acid-infused Kwaito cut 'Johna' with classic cowbells and snaking bass. These are big tunes but they don't lack class.

Review: Along with fellow veteran (and dusty-fingered crate digger) Rahaan, Milo Johnson AKA DJ Nature is one of Hot Biscuit's most prolific re-editors. Here he delivers the third volume in his ongoing Versions series, once more offering up six revisions stretched across two slabs of wax. Check first record one opener 'Your Turn To Move', a stretched out version of a heavily orchestrated, not particularly well known disco stomper, before turning your attention to the scat vocal-sporting disco-jazz pleasure of closing cut 'Magic Man'. Sandwiched in between you'll find such delights as the guitar solo-laden AOR disco brilliance of 'Burning Hot', the gritty, percussion-rich energy of 'Disco Raw', and the slow-burning Blaxploitation brilliance of 'Get On The Floor'.

Review: We don't know much - or anything really - about the secretive Nico Bellari, so all we can go off is the music. This is his own new label, and it kicks off with a delightful pair of edits of some good old disco delights, and both come with their own carefully stripped-back and flesh dubs, all mixed and edited from original multi-tracks. 'Dance, Dance, Dance' is a nice and funky disc stepper with a silky and seductive lead vocal that swells the heart. 'Straight Ahead' is more weighty for the pet time with some fat-ass bass and lovely improvised synth playfulness, all under a vocal you will know and probably already love.

Review: Perro Bueno Edits has been behind some much-sought-after edit releases in recent times and this one is another of the same. The fifth entry in the cult series again looks to unearth rare Afro disco gems and rework them with precision and soul. On Side A, 'AMDS' is a hypnotic cut with a rolling bassline that radiates warmth as the original is respectfully reimagined with sharp edits and an extended arrangement built for movement. The B-side is a spiritual stunner that melds heartfelt vocals with layered rhythms and dreamy keys to back the soulful vocal. It's a dubbed-out groove perfect for late nights with some bright horns adding extra vitality.

We're Getting Stronger
Review: The Jackin Disco name is taken from a distinct form of late disco formed from the world of cut-up culture, producing a hard-hitting, speed garage prototyper sound. Four additions to the series inaugurated in 2024 have heard bang-up refits for Chic, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Shapeshifters, Basement Jaxx and Locksmith, with each 7" getting two slices of the legacy hitmade pie each. Now two more timeless numbers are reworked as loving carryovers: 'Million Dollar Bill' by Whitney Houston, lent a gated snaring snap-pan clarification, and 'We're Getting Stronger' by Loleatta Holloway, secondarily given a softer rerub.

Funky Together
Review: Wax Digits hits release number five with a tight and tidy two-tracker from the late veteran Robert Ouimet who passed a couple of years ago. Before then he cooked up these gems with his pal and production partner Dave Godin. They are being released as a tribute to the memory of Ouimet and a fine one they are too. 'Plenty' has a raw groove and big chords with jangling guitars adding hints of melancholy that counter the big stabs. Soulful vocals are a great finishing touch then 'Funky Together' is more loose and strident with big horns leading the way under psyched-out chords. Two quality party starters.

Review: 25 editions deep now, the Attack The Dancefloor 12" series is where we at ZR do our best to cater to our "Is it coming out on vinyl?" crew. Kicking off proceedings is Dave Lee's mix of Foremost Poets classic 'Beside Myself', a brand new remix where Dave delivers a stonking, cowbell cracking slice of house with the soulful joy Johnny Dangerous brings with his vocals. Backing that up on the A's is the peak time disco house track from our friendly neighbour Doug Willis, on this occasion aided and abetted by someone who's been doing the do just as long, but in Chicago - Mr Mike Dunn. Ich Liebe Es Zu Tanzen!.
On the flip is Output / Input's 'Every Time You Touch Me' which gets Boogiefied by Dave Lee, who adds slick Moog bass, jazz-funk guitars & brassy synths under Antonio McLendon's Luther-esque vocal performance. To close out is one for the Garage heads, an exclusive 'Vocal Dub Pressure' version of Groove Assassin's recent hit remix of Destiny II's 'I'm Here For This' which is currently not available digitally. As Kate Bush once said "Wow"!!!

Review: Originally released in 1978 on the small US label Americom, this long-lost modern soul gem from Philadelphia singer Phylliss Bailey finally gets the official reissue treatment via Celestial Echo. An underground favourite among deep diggers and dancers alike, the record has circulated quietly for decades-bootlegged, whispered about, and cherished by those lucky enough to own a copy. Bailey's voice is velvet-smooth but commanding, gliding effortlessly across funked-up grooves and lush, string-soaked arrangements. There's a graceful tension between the uptempo burners and the downbeat slow jams: 'Focus' and 'Dance, Dance' are straight-up disco bombs, while 'Feeling Of Love' and 'Stranger On My Mind' show a more smouldering, introspective side. Every track has that ineffable studio magic, warm and rich with analogue fidelity. Fully remastered and presented with new artwork to distinguish it from the shady bootlegs, this pressing brings a true collector's item back into circulation. A reminder that modern soul was a feeling more than a genre, and few captured it quite like Bailey.

He is no stranger to doing that - the Mexican Guillermo Gonzalez Santana broke out more than a decade ago and has been leading his local, and the global, disco scene from the front ever since. Side A kicks off with the global hit 'Ya Te Olvide' extended and guaranteed to ignite. Following that is 'DDD,' a high-energy banger, then 'Funk Party' is a crowd favourite that held the top chart spot for weeks and smooth and soulful closer 'D.R.E.A.M.I.N.G.' leaves a lasting impression.

It's a mature mix of 80s-inspired Balearic electro-funk with a tropical twist straight from his Bali studio. This sun-soaked collection bridges sunset vibes and dancefloor energy with 'It's Lonely At The Top' a funky opener with a squelchy bassline and playful riffs. 'Elevate' douses you in 80s synth sounds that glow warm, and label head remixes into a more buoyant Balearic house beat. Elsewhere is the gentle swagger of 'Low Bounce' and lush synth disco buzz of 'Automatic.' Feel-good grooves, for sure.

Rahaan handled release number one, successfully reworking a Talking Heads gem; this time round, Idjut Boy Dan Tyler - under the NAD alias - is the scalpel and space-echo wielding edtor at the controls. He delivers typically dubbed-out and picturesque takes on two Spanish language gems. On side A, he adds tape delay and reverb to the gorgeously loved-up, synth-sporting shuffle of 'Double Amor', making it even more loved-up, jazzy and sun-baked. Over on the flip, he sprinkles his echo-laden magic across a more familiar slab of tactile, summer-ready Balearic synth-pop - an early release from one of pop's most enduring global megastars.

Now on a double vinyl reissue through Far Out, the record snags a protracted moment of creative stretch, where samba, bossa, baiao and pop intertwine with broken beat, house and trip-hop textures. 'Parabens' and 'Agua De Coco' became cult favourites, the former sampled by Childish Gambino and flipped by Tom Misch and Misa Negra. On the flip, he reworks Jay Williams' 'Testify', a standout northern soul-echoing jam from 1997. Deceptively simple, the record has the aura of a well-sculpted but not fussed-over travail; whether there was more effort in the edits and prepress stage than it lets on, we can't quite tell. Whatever: whether DAW or razor-and-tape, it bangs.

Its eighth dish kicks off with an irresistible hors d'oeuvre in the form of Monsieur Van Pratt's big piano jam 'Gotta Get Down', which is pure floor-filling tackle. Voyager 909's 'Shake' blends big strings, soulful vocals and hip-swig in claps with a down and dirty bassline. There is more heads up disco-funk from Disco 86, sexier sounds from the sultry disco bomb that is 'Funktastic Fantastic' and Edson Agiss layers up horns, guitar licks and squealing Hammond organs on 'Comme Ci, Comme Ca.' Rob Castillo sees things out with Got To Be Slick,' an irresistibly soulful and flute-laced house roller with hints of Americana in the guitar riffs buried deep in the mix.

Review: Gold polygon masked producer (only the best of them wear them) Satin Jackets returns with a laid-back blend of lush grooves and breezy melodies, perfectly attuned for moments of ease and escape. Drawing from a string of singles released over recent years since 2010 for the likes of Nu Indee and Eskimo, Cruise Control has an unshakable sense of atmos and rhythm, as a drench of sun washes over each production. The German producer shapes his compositions in solitude before bringing in collaborators who elevate the mood, whether through serendipitous connections with David Bay and Small Black, or the instant spark of a friend's bassline transforming a stuck idea into a standout hook. Listeners often comment on the uplift they feel in his work, and it's clear he prioritises that sense of instant musical chemistry.

Review: Mike Popov is the musician behind the I Gemin project, which was conceived as a way of working disco style and sampling into his house tracks. And the results are brilliantly effective and charming. 'Introfall (Autumn)' makes for a low-slung downtempo start, 'Come Together' brings horn-led disco house fun and 'Black Tea Groove' sinks into a fat-bottomed and dubby rhythm alive with magical synth flourishes. The blissed out 'Summer Breeze' is an escapist charmer, and the flipside features three more exquisite genre studies that have real heart and authenticity.

Review: Death On Wax follow the curious trend of cataloguing their releases as though they're counting down to doomsday, and 'DW00:00:04' only adds another second to midnight with a fresh collaboration between Jaz (John Zahl) and Party Dad, both hailing from the US. Their prior outing for Philly phantasists Universal Cave proved almost as endearing as this higher-level pedal pivoter, whose three functional tracks do the altruistic work of naming themselves after the BPM they clock in at. With classic hardware reverbs echoing a classic 80s essence, and train whistles, synth brasses and adult filmographic electro soul ensuing on the B side, all we can say is that you're in for a rather varied treat.

Review: After stepping back to find pause in early 2023, Parcels have since regrouped, setting off on a freer-form path. The result is Loved, their third album, and a radiant mix of glittering grooves and candid indie pop soul-searching. Written and tracked across Berlin, Byron Bay, Sydney, Oaxaca and Mexico City, the 12-track LP trades the conceptual structure of 'Day/Night' for a looser, instinctual yet somehow also tighter feel. Recents 'Safeandsound', 'Leaveyourlove' and 'Yougotmefeeling' hint at an expanded palette, where a band already known for their tight, harmony-rich funk-pop now set alight a higher sound, reprocessing the feeling of jiltedness through gritted jaunts and jubilations.
