Write Lines: Adventures In Rap Journalism by Andrew Emery
Cat: 1006258

Write Lines: Adventures in Rap Journalism tells the tale of hip-hop writing from the inside
Notes: Having failed at rapping, what's next for an endlessly passionate rap nerd? In this sequel to the acclaimed memoir Wiggaz With Attitude, it turns out what's next is a sometimes controversial career in rap journalism.

Write Lines: Adventures in Rap Journalism tells the tale of hip-hop writing from the inside. From death threats to interviewing Lauryn Hill while she's in the shower. From calling Jay-Z a c*** to his face, to letting a notorious rapper sleep in his bath, it's a hilarious, anecdote-studded tale that takes in hip-hop's first-ever magazine and lifts the lid on rivalries, squabbles and how music journalism really works.

Brutally honest, and endlessly opinionated, this story is also a love letter to hip-hop as it changed seismically through the decades. Write Lines charts those changes from the front line through encounters with many of the greats of rap: Chuck D, Missy Elliott, RZA, Eminem, Jazzy Jeff and Gang Starr among them. This is an unfiltered tale of hip-hop that is both heartfelt and scabrously funny.

""With its relatable take on growing up in the 80s, Andrew Emery's Wiggaz With Attitude marked his card as a vivid memoirist. He might have failed as a wannabe rapper, but the music he loved gained multitudes from his work for Hip-Hop Connection. A pivotal force in the magazine's 90s/00s heyday, never short of a telling opinion or four, Andrew set a high bar for its other writers to reach. Write Lines is a transportive account of his many travails in that murky world. Packed with eye-watering encounters and witty asides, his compulsive, self-deprecating and brutally honest reflections will resonate widely and change perspectives on rap journalism forever." - Andy Cowan, HHC Editor & Publisher, author of B-Side: A Flipsided History of Pop.

This cover feature is a career-spanning piece by Tamara Palmer on Bjork, with a terrifically gorgeous cover image by Marly Beyer
Notes: -BJORK: This cover feature is a career-spanning piece by Tamara Palmer on Iceland's most noted export since the foundation of their parliament in 930, with a terrifically gorgeous cover image by Marly Beyer. -MARCELLUS HALL delivers a 30-plus page excerpt from a graphic novel about life in indie-rock in the early 1990s that's stunning and lyrical.

-Hot on the heels of their world tour, it's an engaging photo essay from Detroit's premier music photographer Doug Coombe on the return of garage punk heroes BE YOUR OWN PET. -Mike Turner spends serious time with BMX champion CHELSEA WOLFE, right when she might be suspended from competition for being trans. -Ana Gavrilovska digs deep into the work of up-and-coming multimedia artist WAYNE PHOENIX. -Uncharacterizable instrumental musicians PENGUIN CAFE are back (under the direction of originator Simon Jeffes' son Arthur Jeffes) and Kurt Reighley is writing beautifully on them. (Their first two records for Eno's label are The Shit.) Cassette tape reviews; Lucy Sante delivers a tribute to the olden days of mp3 blogs.

Mimi Lipson weighs in on cats versus dogs in her advice column; Andy Beta talks of Annea Lockwood in the Icons column; the reissue of the issue is a box set of Pauline Anna Strom, by Michelle Dove; Fred Thomas on "why Sonic Youth's most underrated record deserves a second look" (guess which one it is!); an overview of reissue label Mesh Key for a new column on the people who run labels and stuff like that. In the new column Tracked (on music supervisors) Martin Douglas talks to Tiffany Anders, and it's largely about her work on RESERVATION DOGS! Then there's the column PHYSICAL GRAFFITI by editor McGonigal, an epic look at dozens of recent LP releases plus a few books (that's right, it's a bona fide multi-page record review column), plus the debut of Maggot Brain's food column with a disastrous visit to the Russian Tea Room courtesy of noted genius QUINTRON.

7" vinyl record polypropylene outer & paper inner sleeve bundle
Notes: Whether we're talking cleaning or storage, it's important to maintain your vinyl collection in unmarred, scratch-free condition. But running around stocking up on supplies is time-consuming and takes you away from what you would rather be doing: listening to tunes. That's why Big Fudge are excited to offer vinyl album sleeves and inner LP sleeves in a single package. Keep your vinyl in mint condition at a reasonable price.

Get 25 Crystal-Clear Outer Sleeves: Show Off Your Album Art

These outer sleeves fit all 7" records, including most double albums and gatefolds, with less excess than other vinyl sleeves, which allows just enough room to breathe. Big Fudge use 3mil, crystal-clear polypropylene so that the album artwork is easy to see and the albums don't stick together.

Get 25 Acid-Free Inner Sleeves: Protect Your Vinyl

The custom rounded corners on these inner LP sleeves allow you to slide them into and out of even the most loved covers with ease, while the specially placed external seams allow you to slide vinyl in and out without snagging.

Passive multiple module - 2HP
Notes: Expand the connectivity options in your Eurorack system with the versatile 2HP Eurorack compatible Passive Multiple. This compact module is an indispensable helper when it comes to efficiently distributing signals within your modular setup. With its intelligent design and two normalized channels, it offers a flexible solution for a wide range of patch requirements.

Space-saving design

With its slim design of only 2HP, the Passive Multiple fits seamlessly into any Eurorack system without taking up much space.

Flexible Signal Distribution

Thanks to the two normalised channels, this module can be used either as a 2x 1->3 multiple for distributing a signal to up to three targets, or as a 1x 1->6 multiple to send a signal to up to six targets. This flexibility makes it a true all-rounder for your patch environment.

Optimized for gate and trigger

The module is specially designed for the distribution of gates and triggers. It allows you to route a signal unchanged to multiple outputs, which is ideal for complex signal paths.

Limited CV signal suitability

Although the passive multiple can also be used for CV signals, it is only suitable to a limited extent due to its passive design. For precise voltage distribution, especially with pitch CV, we recommend using a buffered multiple to avoid signal loss and inaccuracies.

A Mirror Of Dreams: The Progressive Rock Revival 1981 To 1983 by Andrew Wild
Cat: 1006427 Rel: 21 Jun 24

For A Mirror Of Dreams, Wild has interviewed no fewer than 85 musicians and other participants in the early 1980s progressive rock scene
Notes: Kingmaker Publishing, run by Big Big Train founder Gregory Spawton and Prog magazine journalist/Big Big Train manager Nick Shilton, is delighted to announce the publication of its latest book. A Mirror Of Dreams - The Progressive Rock Revival 1981 To 1983 by Andrew Wild.

Following Kingmaker's two highly acclaimed books on Genesis (Genesis: 1967 to 1975 - The Peter Gabriel Years and Genesis: 1975 to 2021 - The Phil Collins Years) and several other successful publications (including the autobiography of Marillion keyboardist Mark Kelly, Marillion, Misadventures & Marathons), A Mirror Of Dreams is the first of two books by Wild which provide the definitive account of the intertwined stories of the six bands which led the progressive rock revival: Marillion, IQ, Pallas, Pendragon, Solstice and Twelfth Night.

For A Mirror Of Dreams, Wild interviewed no fewer than 85 musicians and other participants in the early 1980s progressive rock scene. These interviews included most of the members of all the aforementioned bands as well as Abel Ganz, Airbridge, Comedy Of Errors, Electric Gypsy, Galahad, Haze, It Bites, Jadis, Janysium, Lahost, The Lens, Liaison, Multi Story, No-Man, Pride Of Passion, Quasar, Tamarisk, Trilogy and Twice Bitten. Additionally Wild spoke with key non-musical figures such as veteran Aylesbury Friars promoter David Stopps, former Marillion manager John Arnison and Nigel Hutchings, the former manager of the legendary Marquee Club in London.

Edited by Spawton and with a 2,000 word foreword by Prog magazine editor Jerry Ewing, the book features over 200 photographs and illustrations, many of which have either been previously unpublished or are very rare.

Spawton comments: "This is a book which I have long wanted to see written. It's the story of how, in the early 1980s, a number of rock bands ignored the naysayers and fashioned a second coming for the much-maligned and misunderstood genre of progressive rock."
