  1. Temple Step
  2. Simple Emotion
Review: Put your hands up if you remember Calibre's exceptional "Steptoe" from a few years back! Deep hypnotic dub made with a D&B mindset, it resonated with true sub low funk and that unique soul the Belfast producer has always maintained. Well here's another track cut from a similar sonic cloth; "Temple Step" is like "Steptoe's" meaner, moodier brother. More spacious than a Hummer glove box, darker than a Frankie Boyle joke, this is deep and deadly material. Meanwhile on the B "Simple Emotion" takes up back up the swift, lightfooted hats and fat kicks Calibre is best known for. With a warped bass groove and dark, minimalist production approach, this is guaranteed to add great texture to your next set.

  1. Passenger
  2. Bombers
Review: As we've already pointed out, Juno HQ has a hidden love for Ram Records. The guys over in Hornchurch still manage to bring the funk out of those harsh breaks and squealing basslines. This time Loadstar steps up with a two-tracker, featuring "Passenger", a neo wobble-step leviathan whose power is not to be taken lightly. Next up, "Bombers" brings back the drums and the bass-es - a shimmering jump-up cacophony in true Ram style - we still bobbin'...

  1. Pandora
  2. Abyss
Review: The Prototypes have been on a roll since day one. And while most of their previous work has ridden the crest of the new wave, electro-inspired D&B, both cuts here are no-nonsense, undiluted bangers where you either hold on tight or get blown away but their heavyweight nature. "Pandora" leads with gritty neuro bass and pummelling beats, with a short euphoric drop adding a little respite before slamming you back into the darkness. "Abyss" is the eerier member of the set that kicks off with a build up that doesn't sound dissimilar to an old Pendulum climax. Naturally by the time the drop comes, the eeriness is out and the industrial strength bass is in. Possibly The Prototypes' best single to date.

  1. Scavenger
  2. Stepping Stones
Review: Ram have been on another signing spree this year, D&B stalwarts Calyx & Teebee being just one of their latest savvy business moves. "Scavenger" is a head nod to Ram's formative days as THE darkest, steppiest, techiest imprint. Raving and rampaging with whirling hoovers and heavily processed synths, there's more than a wee whiff of Ram Trilogy or Bad Company throughout. "Stepping Stones" meanwhile, is a head nod to Ram's current position as the go-to imprint for all things D&B. A jazz-flecked roller with equal parts old school and new, this is a quintessential lesson in cool, understated drum & bass.

Review: In need of a new guaranteed rewind weapon? Sure you are. And here it is; Benny Page working a prime time swing while Mr Williamz fires motivating lyrical vibes with a clear and rapid flow. Simple dubwise drum & bass executed with style, "Top Rank Skank" is your ultimate festival bomb. Use it wisely. Or indeed flip for "Know Fi Move Your Waist". Another reload moment, this one features Major Danger's 80s dancehall classic of the same name, reworking it into a sizzling sidewinder of skankery. More calls to wind and grind than your local salt and pepper shaker store. Rewind mi selecta!

  1. Fourth Dimension
  2. Apocalypse
  3. Vortex Field
Review: Following in the footsteps of fellow Russians Bop and Enei, Abstract Elements get freaky on a deep and minimal tip with an EP that gets heavier track by track. We kick off with the eerie muffled pastures of the lead track "Fourth Dimension", a cut so sub-heavy it broke two Juno speakers when we tested it in the office. "Apocalypse" drives deeper into tech territories with precise kicks, spine-shuddering atmospherics and a percussive hook that develops with stealth. "Vortex Field" finishes the set with paranoid urgency. Filmic, dramatic and mechanically funky, it's the perfect EP finale.

  3. Sound Clash Toolz
Review: Bristol badmen Run Tingz hook up with Serial Killaz for this mighty 12". One for the old school, one for the new, this should tickle all D&B heads' fancies. The "UK jungle mix" sees reggae vocalist YT riding roughshod over a brutally robust Amen-heavy mix with classic chants and textbook dancefloor calls to action. For something a little more contemporary head for the "Stadium remix"; opening with a similar radio friendly pomp and prestige that Fresh is rocking right now, KNERs deliver spitfire raps over a weighty halfstep before the full throttle beats kick in. Throw in a bass riff so huge it has its own postcode and you've got yourself a serious banger.

Review: It's the moment we've been waiting for! Every single one of Optiv & BTK's singles since they hooked up a mere 18 months ago has been, without argument, a killer. Ed Rush was a wise man when he signed them for an album; and, naturally, they've delivered. Too much to talk about in one small review but one particular highlight is "Don't Need You"; acknowledging the scene's current movement towards to more vocal methods but maintaining all the filth and gritty gusto they've become synonymous with, it sums up just why these guys are respected by fans and fellow artists alike. An epic debut LP.

  1. I Remember
  2. Troglodyte
Review: Another Ram release, another banger! That's the adage at Juno HQ when a new delivery from the Hornchurch hotspot comes in. If someone doesn't say it, they get charged a fiver by the boss. Them's the rules. And the rules for this particular pair of bangers? Easy - play them or insult your dancefloor. "I Remember" was first aired on Andy C's Nightflight 5 and we'd been itching for it ever since. The perfect balance of euphoria and funk and coated in spine-tingles, this is a head nod to early Hospital material but with added bass cojones. Meanwhile on the flip "Troglodyte" does its own balancing act between a deep rolling groove and heavy tech elements and cheeky fun. Another Ram release, another banger indeed...

  2. Look What You Have Done
Review: Things that are best served cold: Ham, cheese, milk, revenge, and this EP! Fresh from numerous appearances on Hospital compilations, Estonian outfit Mutated Forms showcase their expansive repertoire with these two precision made dancefloor bullets. The title track "Best Served Cold" is a bona fide stepper that gurgles and grumbles with bass menace. D&B fans of the techy variety should be all over this. "Look What You Have Done" is a total curveball that builds with real tech menace before dropping into a strange halfstep hybrid (think "Disco Dodo" but much, much trippier). Listen out for some very eerie, warp synth and sample work; if Brainfeeder released D&B, this is what it would sound like.
