Still Got The Feeling
Review: Having debuted on Numbers precursor Wireblock back in 2009 it took the foundation of his own Icee Hot label last year for Ghosts On Tape to resurface with some new material. Having inaugurated the label named after the SF part of the same name, Ghosts On Tape returns for their fifth release which opens in rugged fashion on the title cut that lifts a particularly well-known Lil Louis sample and flings it into a dark, pulsing construction that rolls along on a rattling percussive palette. The "Underground" mix of the track is a more stripped down, techy affair with pattering drums and more psychedelic swirls in the mix, but it's up to Arttu to inject some swing and colours into the situation with his mildly deranged remix. "Still Got That Feeling" rounds the EP off with a delectable dub techno chord that barrels straight into a simmering groove full of white noise, eventually opening out into a moody but enthralling cut.

Your Body
Your Body (Squarehead remix)
Review: The Church crew return with more fresh off the press techno, this time with Viers, a hotly tipped new producer with his heart firmly set on minimal, futuristic sounds. Apes & Seb Wildblood add their own atmospheric sound to the track, taking that hard edge and blurring the lines between techno and ambient house. "Your Body" is Viers' nightmare hard techno track and it sounds fantastic as loud as it can go. Heavy pulsating rhythms take the fore as the track progresses into industrial territory. Lastly, Squarehead pushes up the off-beats, adding a lighter house feel to the track, fading up shimmering melodies as a newly colourful bassline kicks in. Perfect for 2013.

Decimated #4
Review: Since surfacing last year with a contribution to the New Jack Techno compilation for zeitgeist chasers Turbo, the London based J. Tijn has more than lived up to his billing as an 'up & coming' producer. This year he inaugurated Untold's techno-focused Pennyroyal label with two 12-inch singles as well as appearing on the OHWL#Ten series from Belgian label Other Heights. J. Tijn's third release sees the young producer combine the one track of Detroit house, "Flat", with three cuts of decidedly dubby and Berlin-centric techno, showing off a more cultured side to his productions.

Let Me See (Dexter remix)
Model (Femme En Fourrure remix)
Review: The Audio Culture label out of Holland have called upon Dexter and Femme En Fourrure to remix goldFFinch's Model EP from last year. Both acts have chosen a track each, with Dexter opting to remake "Let Me See", in which he crafts a woofy bassline that constantly threatens to spill over the track's grimy edge. Vocals are given a spooky phase effect, while the synths sound like resonating Tibetan singing bowls. Deeper moves into dubstep, rave and techno are made in Femme En Fourrure's remix of "Model", which sees a vocal sample twisted and torn in amongst a sparse and dubby ambience.

Niceness
Get Busy
Review: Following this year's EPs by Coni, French Fries and the Paris Club Music Volume 1 compilation, ClekClekBoom debuts a new collaboration by label head Ministre X and Mattias Mimoun. Entitled Aethority, the duo's first release draws upon bass, garage and techno inspirations with a trimming of acid. "Niceness" sways in syncopated motion as synths are slightly stretched and pulled by a soft sidechain, while "Get Busy" is minimal and sparse in arrangement, its keys, chords and percussive stabs fill the empty voids, resulting in a very musical piece.

On Your Side
Faithful
Quicksand
Review: Having been released digitally earlier this year, Jacques Greene's masterful return to Luckyme is granted the vinyl issue the cover art deserves. Listening to this three track EP, it's all too easy to see how far the Montreal based Greene has developed as a producer since he broke through back in 2010 with The Look EP for the Scottish label. If you've been paying close attention to Greene's production work and general direction since then (starting his own Vase label) you'll understand the Canadian is slowly maturing into a producer in the traditional sense, increasingly happy to step behind the buttons and work an arrangement around a vocalist. Such is the case on the title track to On Your Side which features the tremulous vocal tones of How To Dress Well's Tom Krell and "Faithful" which pairs a bubbling acid flecked broken house shuffle with Oliver Day Soul's gospel style delivery. Final track "Quicksand" demonstrates Greene has lost none of his talent for snaking vocal edits and oven warm melodic leads.

After Dawn
Restless (Jimmy Edgar remix)
After Dawn (Barker & Baumecker remix)
After Dawn (Bibio remix)
Review: Taken from their eponymous album released earlier this year, "After Dawn" is Letherette at their most cosmic and deep. Huge washes of wistful synths and diced vocals, it sings to the house, disco and future G heads with ease. Remix-wise Jimmy Edgar has added his own beaty-tech twist with mild references to Detroit, Barker & Baumecker up the jack factor and bolster the solid sub bass elements while Bibio stretches affairs out into a much more sedate, almost yacht flavoured cosmic jam. One
ace original and three wholly different revisions - Ninja have nailed this release.

A Tooth For An Eye (Pursuit Grooves remix)
A Tooth For An Eye (Cooly G remix)
Review: It seems like so long ago since The Knife dropped their excellent fifth album Shaking The Habitual, such is the climate we live in there have been numerous exhausting release campaigns since it's arrival *cough Daft Punk cough* Here the Cooly G and Pursuit Grooves remixes of LP highlight "A Tooth For An Eye" belatedly see physical issue, sounding as fresh as they did upon being jettisoned in the direction of the internet as 'valuable slices of online content' back in April (a bit of PR speak for you there) Pursuit Grooves is on splendid form with her lopsided, malfunctioning house rendition of "A Tooth For An Eye" which actually lends The Knife original a hint of subtlety. On the flip Hyperdub artist Cooly G opts for the digital UK funky shanty approach which is most memorable for the dextrously played cavernous drums!

Backflight
Backflight (Thefft remix)
Review: Following their breakthrough release for Mister Saturday Night and an additional outing for Well Rounded, New York trio Archie Pelago make the second appearance on their own imprint with the energetic machinations of the Breezy Whey EP. The title track is a pumped up, lean techno excursion that flies in frenetic flurries of drum machine with poise and purpose, while the signature lull of wind instruments come drifting in to soften the rhythmic edges. "Backflight" is more sassy, bringing a bright and flamboyant throwdown of horn stabs with a clear intent towards starting the party, while Thefft gets busy with a razor and trims those wayward blasts of joyous harmony down into a more shuffling hoedown of funky, house informed abandon.

The Room
We Will Always Work It Out Somehow
Review: Having previously appeared on Apollo and Teal in various guises, Bakradze has some sizable clout behind him already, and now this snaking take on Echocord-friendly styles for 2nd Drop should win him a fair few new followers. "The Room" may feature some familiar chord swells, but the rhythmic intricacy is utterly captivating, sitting somewhere between the live shuffle of broken beat and the measured thrust of techno without ever treading on well-worn paths. There is a more crisp electro patter to "We Will Always Work It Out Somehow" and the vocal hook is catchy enough to worm into many a bag, although the synth tones still opt for that mysterious quality that will always spell out dub techno.

Ghetto Blast
Lock Off
Soundboy Fuck Off
Review: Never an easy artist to pin down for long, Mark Pritchard is back on his regular stomping ground of Warp Records after recent success with the likes of his Africa HiTech project. Following on from the leftfield madness of his Ghosts single, all manner of bass led tropes get fed into a masher and twisted up with a fearsome level of sound design and party starting nouse. "1234" features the vocal delights of The Ragga Twins over a garage shuffle both addictive and futuristic in its finish while inspiring all manner of hype in the process, whether you want the original or the instrumental version. "Ghetto Blast" meanwhile gets stuck into a mean trap roll with plenty of wild sample hooks, and then "Lock Off" darts off the map with a cheeky uptempo cut of minimal percussion, primal samples and scattered flecks of jungle. "Soundboy Fuck Off" is more explicit in its use of old-skool rave tricks, from the nightmare stabs to the wild snare rushes, triggered without a shred of mercy for maximum floor damage.

You, Me, Metropolis
Broken (feat Ghettozoid - Unsubscribe remix)
Shot You Down (feat Leni Ward - Breakage remix)
Worthless
Review: Following on from the Kill The Lights LP on the ever-swelling Houndstooth imprint, King Cannibal's House Of Black Lanterns project drops a single from the album to stand on its own two feet. "You, Me, Metropolis" is an urgent, juke-fuelled prowler that lays the dystopian future shock on heavy through epic synth strokes, wielding the urgent rhythm of the drum patterns with the same forward-motion as Kuedo did on his LP. Meanwhile "Broken" gets a reworking from Unsubscribe, turning out an oppressive electro house interpretation that wouldn't sound out of place on Dave Clarke's World Service mix, and Breakage turns "Shot You Down" into a big room monster. Bringing the release full circle, "Worthless" is an original cut that sees more of that soothsayer footwork business tricking its way out of the speakers.

Air (Innershades Stripped Back remix)
Air (Lovers Rights remix)
Review: Sheffield-born newcomer Pegasus is the latest addition to the impressive High Sheen roster, and the bassline scene of his hometown is celebrated in gloriously upfront fashion on "Air" - the switch in mood around the three minute mark is a sublime touch. The Glasgow label have chosen their remixers wisely too as both High Sheen brethren Lover's Rights and Belgian newcomer Innershades recast the original in a whole new light. The former's effort retains the sort of inherent musicality that made their own High Sheen EP from earlier this year so memorable, whilst the latter's remix is stripped down basement jam techno of the highest order, and indicative of how Innershade's forthcoming, superbly titled Creme Organization debut Nina At The Boiler Room sounds.

Review: Having before now appeared solely on compilation releases and mixes, Brooklyn concern Obey City gets snapped up by LuckyMe for some fittingly plush, low-slung beat science. After the gentle intro tones of "Reflect Effect", the aptly-titled Champagne Sounds begins in earnest with the rollercoaster funk of "Quantum Phase". Bright daubs of synth meet with brisk drums, moods switch up erratically and the slap bass comes popping out of the speakers in earnest. "Tell Her" packs in equal amounts of melodic flexing atop live drum swagger, while "Uptown Pumps" gets more crafty with its use of vocal samples and spacious mixdown. At every turn this is a neat addition to the LuckyMe stable, building on the neon strut that has come before in fine style.
