Headless (12" mix) (7:51)
Rubber Tree (12" mix) (5:11)
Review: As promised, Hessle Audio issue the second and final 12" accompaniment to Pearson Sound's slow burning debut album which grips two more cuts extended out for optimum dancefloor deployment. It's the two toughest moments from the album too! "Headless" really highlights David Kennedy's mastery of mutant productions - the sparse drum programming and drunken alien tones that get twisted into strange new shapes sound all the more potent here cut at 45rpm. On the flip is an extended take on "Rubber Tree", the track from the LP that has got the most repeat plays in the Juno office - superb stuff!

Review: There can be few curves in artistic development between albums as the one Jam City has undertaken here with Dream A Garden. His 2012 debut album Classical Curves has had a seismic influence on the structure of much UK club music since then, but instead of further developing and finessing those sonic ideas Jack Latham has gone a whole other route into fully fledged song writing. Or perhaps not, Night Slugs suggest the nine track album is not a total break from the hyper-realised world Latham explored on Classical Curves, it should be seen as an inversion, asking "what becomes of the people struggling to live and love beneath the chrome-plated, vacuous and superficial machinery that we must fight to see beyond?" A bold move by artist and label that demands further investigation!

Papaya Lipgloss (club mix) (4:28)
Papaya Lipgloss (Sour mix) (3:45)
Review: Bok Bok is back in action on his own label with this sprightly two-tracker featuring fresh-faced collaborator Sweyn Jupiter who is making a debut appearance on this record. The "Club Mix" of "Papaya Lipgloss" is a plush affair that revels in the sweetest chimes of melody that linger in mid-air surrounded by a pleasantly sleek rhythm section. It's a joyous affair that keeps an upbeat mood without reaching over into banality, instead letting subtle but impressive flairs of production shine through in the simple surroundings. The "Sour Mix" doesn't actually loose any of that sweetness, but rather deploys it in a more staggered, playful mix that revels in more broken drum patterns and dramatic pauses.

Woooo Riddim (4:03)
Woooo Riddim (DJ Q remix) (4:08)
Review: By their own admission, people have been begging Butterz for some sort of Woo Riddim repress pretty much since it was properly issued in limited quantity on blue and purple 10" vinyl back in 2011. It's the label's fifth anniversary this year so an official 12" reissue (with some SICK cover art) of the grime anthem from SX is really the perfect way to celebrate how Butterz has grown since their emergence in 2010. Both the startling original and DJ Q's remix (which listening back sounds weirdly like a weightless instrumental refix of Timberlake's "My Love") are present and correct here and if you don't own the original pressing you will need this in your collection.

Backcha (3:58)
Dubchat (2:54)
Review: **ESSENTIAL HOTLINE REPRESS** Hotline Recordings launch with an incendiary take on grime and dancehall from Bristol duo Kahn and Neek. The new imprint is clearly in thrall to the glory days of rave - until recently the only information about their first release was a breathy voicemail recording accessed by dialling a number on the Hotline website. "Backchat" is pure fire, with smacking drum hits and a "badman" vocal deftly manipulated throughout the track's duration. "Dubchat" on the flip does what all good versions should, stripping down the elements to the bare essentials and dipping them in a vat of reverb. This is Kahn and Neek's third joint release, following the Flow Dan sampling beast "Percy", released on Bandulu Records earlier this year, and dub reggae cut "Find Jah Way", produced under their Gorgon Sound moniker for Peng Sound: we're hoping the pair have plenty more to offer in 2013.

Review: After six years spent teasing and titillating with a steady stream of high value singles, David Kennedy is finally ready to release his debut full-length under the now familiar Pearson Sound alias. The first artist album to appear on the Hessle Audio imprint he co-founded with Pangaea and Ben UFO, Pearson Sound is a surprisingly sparse and otherworldly affair. Intriguingly, Kennedy's usual twisted, dubbed-out analogue rhythms largely take a back seat, with moments of tough dancefloor abandon (see "Rubber Tree" and the tipsy "Headless") playing second fiddle to stripped-back synth-scapes and otherworldly ambience. It's striking on first listen, and only gets more impressive with repeat listens

Brooklyn Underground (4:07)
Dinner & Corsica (6:22)
Review: Mensah returns to Lobster Boy with more heavyweight jams under the New York Transit Authority name. Up top "Brooklyn Underground" veers into classic electro territory as crisp 808 programming meets metallic bass tones reminiscent of Radioactiveman at his most futuristic and alien. The superbly titled "Dinner & Corsica" heads down a much darker path as Mensah shows his skills at punchy acid house with a bassline that does all the talking and the kick/snare struts that do all the listening. Dark room, dubby and seriously dangerous stuff from Lobster Boy!

Cross Strut (3:17)
Crook (3:57)
Joy Mile (3:11)
He Ain't Worth (3:51)
Review:  Having already turned more than a few heads with a strong appearance opposite Tuff Sherm on a split disc for Plastic World, Australian producer Cassius Select makes a fully-fledged outing on Unknown To The Unknown with a very savvy blend of sharp-edged club wreckers in line with DJ Haus's own riotous vision of 21st century dance music. "Cross Strut" places the emphasis on clattering percussion locked into a hard funk, while "Crook" lets a few more atmospheric splatters of melody and reverb into the twitchy mix. The ideas come flying thick and fast without losing sight of the dancefloor, just like all good UTTU releases.

Strictface - "Alice" (4:46)
Loom - "Kate" (3:43)
Mr Mitch - "Dru" (5:31)
Silk Road Assassins - "T" (4:36)
Review: Mr Mitch's Gobstopper label commence a new series of under the counter grime tweaks entitled Peace Edits, which represents a logical extension of his Peace Dubs endeavours back in the war dubs days of 2013. Volume one finds Strict Face, Loom, and the brilliantly named Silk Road Assassins joining Mr Mitch across its four tracks and features some weightless reinterpretations of Kate Bush, Dru Hill, Alice Deejay and T-Pain into a weightless style. If you follow the current movements in grime you will know all about Strict Face's haunting edit of Alice Deejay or Mr Mitch's killer harmonised Dru Hill reshape and you will know this is a must grip 12".

Champion - "Cannon" (4:14)
Terror Danjah - "Run Out" (3:26)
Review: Champion and Terror Danjah on one 12"? Christmas has come early! Champion lives up to his name as, pretty much, always on "Cannon" a lean, steppy production full of snare-shots and sirens. It's a shamanistic fire-up that will drive crowds nutty. Flip for "Run Out". A pacey bass jam with bruk-style beats and an a la cart menu of low-end textures so juicy and filling they could feed a family of four for a month. A fitting document of where bass music is at in 2015.

Charge (3:43)
Kano (3:48)
Charge (Jameszoo remix) (4:26)
Review: Nigh on 18 months have passed since his incredible "Mute City" EP on LuckyMe and Cid Rim finally delivers the good stuff once again, this time for Austrian label Affine. Both "Charge" and "Kano" are as lush, velvety and textured as you'd hope. The former plays with the concept of moment before opening out into a star-burst of colour and drums. The latter subverts this with synth textures that wouldn't go amiss on an Underground Resistance record 15 years ago. Then we tumble into the drop where life gets so Technicolour you'll want an all-over lumo skin tattoo for life. Check Jameszoo's remix for something a bit more twisted and darker.

Imp (2:29)
Bloody Eye (2:47)
Hex (2:05)
Straps (3:02)
Review: It is shaping up to be a most interesting year yet again for Robin Carolan's Tri Angle, a label that is clearly focusing efforts on the current wave of producers bending rhythmic conventions and people's conceptions into compelling new forms. Following swiftly on from the excellent Lotic 12", Tri Angle now welcomes Rabit into the fold with Baptizm, a four track EP that builds on the Texan's previous output for Glacial Sound, Soundman Chronicles, and the newly launched Different Circles. There a distinct swerve in styles as the four tracks progress here, with the ornate calm of "Imp" contrasting massively with the appropriately titled "Bloody Eye" which is a heaving, joyously evil mass of hydro mechanical bass drums, liquefied industrial bleeps and gun shots. The playful twilight grime riddims of "Hex" provide some respite before Rabit veers back into the hyper mechanical drum programming on "Straps" which sounds like it was a lot of fun to produce.

Ipolice (4:13)
Whirlybird (4:34)
Holed Up In The Hovel (4:09)
No Pain, No Gain (4:37)
Review: Sam Schorb casts off his tag as the forgotten man of Bass music with some much needed Damu material for the Keysound label. Damu's emergence back in 2011 with a colourful blend of R&B, UK funky and dubstep resulted in easily some of the best sounds of the time, with a debut album Unity the highlight. After dabbling in artist production, label ownership and remixing, Schorb re-emerges with the appropriately titled Holed Up In The Hovel for Keysound. Apparently beginning life as sketches for war dubs, these four cuts are apparently inspired by Schorb's relocation and immersion in the Croydon grime scene. If you are down with the current grime manoeuvres from Gobstopper, Mumdance, Logos et al this 12" will definitely resonate - lead cut "Ipolice" is like one of those battle scenes from the future in Terminator set to a grime backbone.
