Deep House
Tyrion
Desmond's Empire
Review: Championed by Midland & Bradley Zero to name a couple, here are some fresh cuts for the afro-enthusiastic bass music lovers! O'Flynn's first vinyl release sees him flip around a Calypso drum solo on the A side for a seriously powerful and percussive tune, whilst side B reveals an explosion of African vocal chants and melodic treats. A real statement of intent for the first release on this new label.

X (5:15)
Don't Get Me Started (4:56)
Review: Wisdom Teeth dig deeper into the bleeding gums of warehouse techno's most experimental side with two superb originals from bad men Hodge and Acre. Bristol lad Hodge has been making serious waves with a slew of killer 12"s for Berceuse Heroique, Dnuos Ytivil, Hotline and more whilst Manchester's Acre arrives on Facta and K Lone's label after a hot record for Tectonic. Up top, Hodge's "X" is a jarring, stark series of steps and subs while Acre's "Don't Get Me Started" flows with an alien off-beat groove with strange percussive elements and processes. A unique fusion of techno, leftfield and future dub, these gnashers are as sharp as they are wise.

Kahn & Neek - "Backchat" (Jus Now remix) (4:15)
Jus Now - "Tun Up" (Kahn remix)
Review: It's a Bristol thing: two of the city's most exciting names in bass science indulge in high grade remix culture for the mysterious but oh so crucial Hotline Recordings operation. Kahn & Neek's "Backchat" gets Jus Now's premium percussive treatment with carnal Carnivalian results while Jus Now's "Tun Up" gets a ghetto-bound, super-sharp-steppy twist from Messrs Kahn & Neek. Both reversions taking the originals into brave new directions, Hotline's 'off the hook' motto rings truer than ever right here.

Rant Check (parts 1 & 2)
Review: After rip-roaring their way into recorded existence with their first EP for R&S, Appleblim and Second Storey are back in the saddle with the second in their trilogy of EPs, and once again the psychedelic and starry-eyed electro of their live sets has been distilled into diverse and surprising configurations. "Formation" takes a softer approach than some of their other output, bathed as it is in sweet and aquatic ripples of melody before dipping down into a spangled twist on deep house. "Rant Check (parts 1 & 2)" meanwhile flexes much more muscular tones, whipping up the kind of flexible basslines and visceral sound design that burst out of the first EP before mutating gloriously over a twelve minute run.

The Experience (5:01)
3Style (5:07)
Pressure (4:30)
Simple City (5:57)
Review: Welsh producer Kinzy has had some dalliances with releases for Under 5's in the past, but now the producer really comes of age with this release for Pinch's Cold Recordings imprint. It sounds very much at home on the label, reveling in icy atmospheres loaded with tension and crafty sound design. There's some righteous half-step intensity in the shape of "Simple City", dread-filled house twitch on "Pressure" and oddball trap manglings aplenty on "3Style". If you crave more of that chilly fix that Cold is focused on, then this is another essential addition to your beyond-the-grave arsenal.

Wanna Party (feat Tink)
Review: Despite its vintage, Warp is still a label that looks to consistently surprise with the signing of US 'supergroup' Future Brown a most interesting addition indeed. Formed of Fatima Al Qadiri, Lit City Trax boss J-Cush and Nguzunguzu pair Asma Maroof and Daniel Pineda, Future Brown meld grime, R&B, dancehall and everything inbetween for a typically forward thinking style of music equally indebted to the club as well as the charts. This self titled album follows a 12" for Warp last year and those swayed by the particular charms of "Wanna Party" will find much to enjoy in the 11 tracks featured here with Night Slugs artist Kelela, Ruff Sqwad members Rapid and Dirty Danger and Roll Deep affiliates Roachee and Riko Dan all adding to the party!

Kodiak - "Taargus"
Kodiak - "Taargus" (Bambounou remix)
Jack Dixon - "New Curtains"
Jack Dixon - "New Curtains" (Troy Gunner remix)
Review: The styles don't come more modern than this, as White Asega marks up its fourth release in a continuing trans-Atlantic operation between London and New York. On this occasion Kodiak leads the charge on the A side with a bashy twist on electro-techno heavy on the synths but with the whiplash drums taking centre stage. Bambounou's remix comes off decidedly conservative by comparison, opting for a reduced techno cycle in contrast to all the rowdiness. Jack Dixon meanwhile drops his own fiery number in the shape of "New Curtains", triggering rapid fire samples with a Latin flavour and keeping the beat snappy. Troy Gunner then duly reworks the track into a moody stepper for the crafty heads out there.
