Fill Emptiness
Fall Down On Me
Ninety
Review: Homepark might only have a few releases in their arsenal, but the standard of labels the East London duo have graced demonstrates it's all about the quality and not quantity. Having already graced the likes of Bliq, 3rd Strike, Enterbt and Simoncino's House Sound initiative, Homepark hop onto one of the UK's most respected proper house hubs in the shape of Ornate Music with the three tracker Fill Emptiness EP. Senses are flushed with warmth as soon as the title track arises from the warmth of the opening pads, slinking into twilight action on a slick Chicago groove driven by crisp, intricate percussion. Proceedings change up on the flip, with the buffed up toughness of "Fall Down On Me" with Homepark taking a more stripped back approach, lining a bumping drum track with mere hints at melody (which explode with intermittent excitement) and an expertly weaved vocal sample drenched in all too effective delay. Finally, Homepark flex their emotive chord abilities to the max on the sumptuous "Ninety" letting the textural emotions build for a good few minutes before dropping the kick!

YOUROCK
Popular Electronics
In Alpha
Review: One of the most glaring misconceptions regarding I:Cube's excellent fifth album M:Megamix was its format of swiftly veering through the 26 tracks was allowing Nicolas Chaix to lazily avoid the task of actually producing full tracks. This is clearly not the case, with Chaix and Versatile choosing to release extended DJ friendly versions of the album tracks over a series of EPs, with with "YOUROCK", "Popular Electronics" and "In Alpha" featuring on this latest edition. The three tracks are a nice primer of the smorgasbord of sounds to expect on the album for those yet to indulge, with the bleep infused techy chug of "YOUROCK" complemented by the EBM thump of "Popular Electronics" and the new romantic disco glisten of "In Alpha."

Alex Agore - "Come On"
Alex Agore - "Take Me"
James Johnston - "Stand Up & Jump"
James Johnston - "Not So Easy"
Review: Founded by Alex Agore and James Johnston last year, No Matter What Recordings has proved to be a potent outlet for the duo's inimitable take on crisp rolling house sounds in the label's short life to date and this fourth release maintains those standards. After two solo EPs from the respective label heads, the deftly titled A2J2 EP mimics the label debut with a pair of productions from both, with Berlin resident Alex Agore calling shotgun. Muddy vocals and old school piano lines soar through the shamelessly vibing pump of "Come On" while "Take Me" has Agore in a deeper frame of mind, unfurling the various melodic textures with aplomb over a crashing beat. Not to be outdone, JJ opts for a rawer swinging approach with "Stand Up & Jump" utilising a similar cut up vocal sound which gets increasingly submerged amidst the thick, twisting groove. "Not So Easy" might just be the pick of the bunch however, swamping the intricate drum programming in a rich melange of Motor City Soul that sucks you right in.

V2
Space
The Lost
Review: Trackmode Recordings unveil a new label in the shape of TMR Essentials, and the first release lives up to this billing, with label boss Brett Dancer ending his production exile in style. The Euphonic Moods EP marks Dancer's first tangible original production in some six years, but the Brooklyn based producer has lost none of his signature deepness. Lead track "V2" greedily occupies the A Side, bristling wonderfully in the space between house and techno, with one of those instantly recognisable melodic refrains shifting intermittently into focus atop a blissfully arranged rhythm. On the flip, "Space" occupies a higher gear, with little more than deft percussion, driving bass and panning chords needed to deliver the TMR message, while "The Lost" leads you willingly deep into the unknown.

Mr Tophat & Adam Stromstedt - "Tingeling"
Cy - "Valley Crucis Radio Party"
Review: The typically packed Owain's Lagoon EP marks the final chapter in Crow Castle Cuts hugely enjoyable series of twelve inch releases which have touched on all corners of the techno and house spectrum. Luv Jam maintains his 100% appearance record on the series, opening up with "Turnipple" a sublime dusty house production that sets the tone nicely, with Schmitt Finger's "Bethsedia Bison" offering slightly more punch whilst still resolutely deep in its approach. "Track 3" and it's numerical friend on the flip offer little more than prodigious sampling opportunities courtesy of Glynn Geroig, and proceedings take a typical turn for the weird from here. Mr Tophat & Adam Stromstedt go star gazing on the expansive analogue cosmiche of "Tingeling," whilst "Valley Crucis Radio Party" demonstrates Cy in equally esoteric mood. Those saddened by this end of an era will no doubt be emboldened by the accompanying sheet of A4 that hints the Crow Castle Cuts journey will appear soon on a different path set for Knaresborough, of all places.

Bittersuite - "Rituals"
Life Recorder - "Better With You"
Miles Sagnia - "Gravitate"
Paramartha - "Sparticus"
Review: Atmospheric Existence is hardly the most prolific label out there, and the fact their releases come around seemingly once a year is made all the more special by just how good they are. Refined Textures Vol 2 is as you might have guessed the second instalment of the label series first introduced early last year, with label boss Miles Sagnia joined by Bittersuite, Life Recorder and Paramartha. It's the Bittersuite duo of Dom Thompson and Jon Gray that set the tone with "Rituals" a expansive experience that draws out widescreen almost cosmic melodic elements over a strident groove, which is complemented by dubbier, stripped down "Better With You" from label debutant Life Recorder, a track that accrues infinite levels of textural detail as it rattles onwards. Sagnia's effort is of course worthy of the "Refined" tag with "Gravitate" framed at a low angle that allows the crisp, playful programming centre place whilst Paramartha ends proceedings on a jittering acid note with the excellent "Sparticus".

Sing It Out (Leif remix)
Holloway
Holloway (Iron Curtis & Leaves remix)
Review: Most commonly seen sharing production billing with Ethyl, Flori comes good on his second solo transmission for the promising City Fly label. The title track, where deeply soulful vocal samples swing freely in the space between crisply laced percussion and rippling chords that shift in and out has anthem written all over it. Complementing this, Ethyl drops a sly nod to North London with the dubby bubbling Chicago styles of "Holloway", with vocals wrapping around deep, warm chords. Leif and Iron Curtis offered fresh perspectives on the respective tracks with their remixes, with Leif's having more than a touch of MK inspired New York shuffle, and Iron Curtis swathing the original in delay and percolating melodies.

Any Other Styles (Short Version)
Beat These
Review: If you've been following the production trajectory of Theo Parrish over the past six months then you'll have become accustomed to expect some outlandish, unpredictable releases from the Sound Signature main man. Still though, few would have seen this coming. Central to the DNA of "Any Other Styles" is a cornucopia of FX dredged up from arcade beat-em up moves and crudely nudged to fit an abstractive, thick set beat pattern that bucks angrily with a frenetic nature that's beyond unpredictable. It's the strangest Theo record we've heard in some time, but when any number of people are treading shallow waters in the name of contemporary deep house, don't we need some people to not even consider "the box" when it comes to approaching music? If sonic boom techno ain't your thing, then the flipside DJ tool "Beat This" might take your fancy, an endlessly restless shimmy through skeletal pitter patter beatdown, with the sort of dextrous drum arrangements that Parrish does so well.

Juan Two Five
Review: Fast on the rise and seemingly everywhere at the moment, Trevino shifts from the snappy electro of his [NakedLunch] release to two crisp and punchy analogue house cuts that sport the same tendency for strong atmospheres and subtly modulating synths. As with the last release though, it's the clarity of the beats that make the tunes, particularly on "Backtracking". B-Side "Juan Two Five" is no less stark in its lavish production, as a sticky pad washes around the rigid jack and deadly bassline. The old skool house march goes on, and the ideas still keep on coming for fresh ways to interpret a classic sound.
