Soul Vision (7:16)
Soul Vision Bonus Beats (4:10)
Faith (6:13)
Healer (5:55)
Review: "Introducing a brand new label from Berlin-based Greek, John Dimas. Elephant Moon is a platform conceived by John to simply collect and release music from his talented group of friends. Having built up a strong reputation thanks to his excellent back catalogue of productions on labels such as One Records and La Vie En Rose, he decided that now is the time to dedicate his deep knowledge of house and techno to running a label of his own.
The first release sees John teaming up with his good friend, Paris producer Djebali. Having a mutual admiration for each other's work, it was a logical move for the two artists to collaborate. A few studio sessions resulted in the 'Soul Vision' EP, which is comprised three tracks together with a special DJ tool. The title-track on side-A focuses on the dance floor, bringing groove-led jazzy vibes throughout. A classic house atmosphere pervades, demonstrating the duo's ability to channel the past in a contemporary manner. As an added bonus, as both men are fans of DJ tools, there's a 'beats only' version of the track for those who love a bit of spritely percussion.
On side-B, we get 'Faith', a heads-down workout, which would be perfect to throw into the mix, mid-set - not too hectic, though with just enough verve to keep the energy levels high. Finally, 'Healer' closes out the flip side, instilling a light, airy vibe to the EP - infused with more jazz-inflected rhythms and a warm feeling from start to end."

Kill Frenzy (5:58)
Lefty's Bar (5:55)
Ken Sent Me (6:09)
Review: Daniel Leseman and Hans 'Junktion' Peeman first joined forces under the Fouk moniker late last year, delivering an impressive debut EP, First Things First, that skillfully combined the former's jazz-tinged rhythms with the latter's smooth deep house nous. There are plenty more reasons to be cheerful on this debut for Detroit Swindle's Heist Recordings imprint, not least the driving bass, jaunty jazz samples and warm chords of "Kill Frenzy". There's even more soul present on the loose house beats, glassy-eyed vocal samples and rich textures of "Leftys Bar", while "Ken Sent Me Release" is as woozy, wavy and dreamy as you'd expect. Soothing stuff, all told.

Adam Rock Dissed!! (4:38)
Moths In Wallets (feat Mr Mensah) (5:07)
Backchat For Toprock (5:18)
Review: Dego and Kaidi on Sound Signature whut???? Here's a partnership that makes perfect sense! The West London legends bring their signature blend of soul and brukked up grit to Theo Parrish's label across three stellar cuts resulting in a 12" that will remain long in the box. Lead track "Adam Rock Dissed" sets the tone, gliding out of the grooves with impeccably placed drums snapping away loosely as Kaidi lets loose with his magical fingers on keys. Next up, "Moths In Wallets" rolls forward and fat on a lazy breakbeat with the vibe enhanced by the low bass rumble and rich, rich keys. This might be our favourite cut on the 12" though B-side production "Backchat for Toprock" runs it close. Live drums get ripped up hard, rocking to their own broken step as Dego and Kaidi slowly tease out some heart wrenching chords amidst a flurry of heavy piano. The masters are in session, pay attention!

Lapiuta (6:27)
Frogs Misterious (6:44)
Real (7:27)
Review: After a brief sojourn on Yay Recordings, Riccardo Buccirossi returns to the Imprints label on which he made his debut last year. The fabulously titled Melody Haunts My Reverie further enhances his deep house credentials, delivering a trio of tracks that mix chunky basslines and loose-but-tough, jazz-tinged rhythms, with a variety of melodious elements. On "Lapiuta", that means bleep-heavy eight-bit electronics, seemingly pinched from a vintage Gameboy release. In the case of "Frogs Misterios", it takes the former of chiming, synthesized xylophones and cheeky vocal samples, while flipside "Real" sees him stretching out chords and tinkering with oh-so subtle keys.

Dance (Louie Vega dance ritual mix) (11:26)
Dance (Louie Vega latin soul mix) (9:34)
Review: The 3 Winans Brothers project is made up of Bebe Winans and Daniel Weatherspoon, who appear here courtesy of Masters At Work legend Louie Vega...on his very own Vega imprint! Their "Dance" tune features The Clark Sisters on backing vocals and is herein remixed twice by Vega: the first is the "dance ritual mix", a soulful house cut with an r&b twist, while the "latin soul mix" focusses more heavily on the house beats and it's a more typical Vega tune which could feature in a typical Vega set, rotary mixer and all!

Playing For Keeps (6:17)
Review: Under his other alias, D.K, French producer 45 ACP has produced some of the most blindingly joyous electronic music of recent times - colourful, vibrant, synthesizer-heavy fare capable of bringing brightness to even the most depressing of days. While some of that mood enhancing melodiousness can be heard on Change of Tone, his first full-length for L.I.E.S, for the most it's a much more melancholic affair. While the chords are beautiful and the subtle rhythms pleasingly evocative, there's a sadness at the heart of the album that's not present on his other work. It is, though, a sublime set, delivering a range of tracks that quietly tug at the heartstrings in the most enjoyable of ways.

Nowadays (5:19)
Siren (13:18)
Review: One modest man known as Das Komplex has been steadily producing music for almost a decade now in his quiet hometown of Koszalin in Western Pomerania region of Poland. It could have stayed like this if not for Maciek Sienkiewicz (veteran DJ and promoter, one of the pioneers of Polish electronic music scene), who picked some tunes for his new label FASRAT. As the artist himself prefers to stay out of the spotlight, let the music speak for itself: from sun-drenched, guitar-driven "Like A Fish" (remixes coming from some key players in modern disco/Balearic scene), through futuristic disco of "Narkoleptyczni Troche" and hazy deepness of "Nowadays", towards epic, over 13 minutes long, jazzy, dreamy, but no less energetic "Siren". Elegant, original, infectious grooves for club play and home listening alike. Limited edition with cover art by acclaimed contemporary painter Aleksandra Waliszewska.

Need You Now (Percussions edit) (7:09)
Need You Now (Huarache dub) (5:07)
Review: In the near 15 years Hot Chip have been doing their thing, the band have had the fortune of seeing their whimsical brand of electro-flecked pop get some fine remixes. Maurice Fulton, Erol Alkan, Supermayer, Daphni, Audion, and Four Tet are amongst some of the high profile names to refix the Chippers for the floor. Ahead of their latest long player, Keiran Hebden (as Percussions) and Hot Chip's own Joe Goddard rewire two cuts on this limited white label 12". Unsurprisingly, the Percussions remix of "Need You Know" is a deep swung affair with plenty of low key UKG flair to it, whilst Goddard turns in a mutant disco dub version of "Huarache Lights" that has a touch of vintage Chicken Lips to it. Plenty of rolling breaks too.

Thank U Jay (5:58)
Anything With A Moonroof (7:25)
Review: After seriously impressing with output for Sound Signature, NDATL, Wild Oats, and Apron, Jay Daniel resurfaces with his own dedicated label Watusi High. With a title like School Dance, its little surprise that Daniel seems to be playing on his relative lack of years - the centre label also features a sketch of him as a youngster. There's little you could say is immature about A-side "Thank You Jay", though; a typically sparse affair built around dusty but bumpin' grooves, leisurely electronics and a brilliant synth bassline. "Anything With A Moonroof" is arguably even dustier, with freshly baked chords - ludicrously deep, even by his high standards - riding a jazz-flecked drum machine groove.

Falling Into Nowhere (7:30)
Abductions (5:43)
Essence (8:00)
Review: For his comeback release on Ukraine's Wicked Bass label, the gloomy producer hiding behind the alias Raw M.T. presents another set of trippy, yet noticeably simplified masterpieces of 90's E-werk informed analog techno. 'Falling Into Nowhere' with its melancholic xylo drops and Twin Peaks infused pads takes us to a setting of descending sadness, while random peak leads and swinging hats on 'Abductions' and 'Essense', in contrast, contribute to a much more dancefloor-friendly and optimistic picture. Three fine cuts that will work both at peak and afterparty time.

Ah Nother One (2:23)
Faahhuuuuuu (4:39)
Review: We're so used to Omar-S pursuing a very particular form of Detroit deep house, that when the legendary producer tries something different, it takes us by surprise. Sidetrakx Volume #3 is full of surprises. Take "Uluu", for example; while still a deep house track, its' undulating dub bassline, spaced-out soul vocal and sparse beats are pleasingly different to his traditionally rolling fare. It's mighty impressive, all told, while flipside "Another One 2 Love" almost eschews deep house completely. Instead, Alex Smith delivers a sweet, almost cute soul song built around head-nodding post hip-hop beats and sweet melodies. It, too, is hugely enjoyable, and once again proves his mastery of multiple genres.

Prototype (6:59)
Ancient Skies (6:25)
Transducer (7:30)
True Distance (7:03)
Review: Quickly becoming one to watch in the techno circles, John Shima is making waves with his fresh approach to that classic Detroit sound. His contribution for boe is nothing short of a stunning representation of underground electronic music.
Prototype is a sonic ode to industry: blueprinted in the motor city and forged in Sheffield. It's heads down for the dance floor with shimmering metallic overtones and a side order of robot jack.
Ancient Skies points more towards Chicago stylings capturing the melancholy party vibe of early Cajual records with crystal clear production skills and neat arrangements.
Transducer is groovy experimental techno that could have easily sat on the much-revered Objet D'Art. It's electronic music that will stand the test of time.
Rounding off the EP in fine style is True Distance. A stunning ambient piece with deep pads and swirling melodies that complement and round of the EP perfectly.

Review: Somewhat surprisingly, this is veteran Detroiter Patrice Scott's debut album. He's been releasing admirably melodic blends of deep house and techno since 2006, but this is the first time he's attempted to fill a full-length release. Euphonium is predictably enjoyable, with audible nods to pioneers of both genres - Ron Hardy, Ron Trent, Derrick May, Juan Atkins and Larry Heard in particular - and a range of tracks that ripple with far-sighted chords, sci-fi tinged rhythms, and an almost tactile feel. While mostly focused on dancefloor material, there are occasional downtempo excursions (see "A Detroit State of Mind" and "Sync Deeper"). These help give the album balance, while emphasizing Scott's love of mood and melody.

The opener "Goneville" features Max Graef and sounds like a J Dilla track being played by jazz instrumentalists, while "Shit Iz Real" reminds us more of the early 90's NY sound a-la KRS1. There's also more experimentally-edged numbers such as "You Can't Groove", tracks which allow this LP to not be categorised under one genre and sound very special, indeed...

Technological Lament (Tomoki Tamura Tool edit - vinyl only)
Review: Rick Wade delivers three deep originals on Holic Trax this March with a Tomoki Tamura edit in tow. One swift look at Rick Wade's staggering back catalogue, from a career spanning more than 20 years, will attest to the Detroit-based producers raw talent in the studio, crafting grooveladen rhythms into cuts that exemplify the word deep. In his latest EP, 'Tech Breed', Rick demonstrates his inimitable production prowess across three expertly forged tracks. Straight from the off you can hear Wade's knack for creating synergy between analog gear and digital software as the title track ensues with an undulating groove that's quickly accompanied by subterranean synths for mesmerizing results. With 'Groovy' the percussion shifts to bongos, whilst ethereal atmospherics and otherworldly notes maintain a mood both arcane and dusky. The tone then shifts in 'Whoa Children' with a sharp injection of funk triggered by soulful vocals and a pulsing bassline - its sultry, smooth and guaranteed to get your body moving. In a sentence, the cuts offered up here ooze soul and vibrancy in a deep way that only Rick Wade can purvey, three warm and groovy cuts that will no doubt be finding their way into many a record bag this year. Holic Trax head honcho Tomoki Tamura delivers an equally dynamic club tool for the final offering on this excellent EP.

Review: New Franck Roger productions on Home Invasion! You know the drill! Choice deep house action from the Paris producer arriving with a handstamped print! Four tracks this time, and is Franck paying homage to Todd Terry on lead track "Toddify"? The samples would suggest so. "Take Me Home" meanwhile is a slinky number with no small amount of sass to its groove and some killer key swerves and both "Freeze" and "Don't" demonstrate that Roger can lay down a tough house groove when the mood takes him. Review: Young East London producer Sam 'Palace' Walker has been part of DJ Haus's trusted inner circle for some time, having released on both Unknown 2 The Unknown and Hot Haus Records. Here he unreleased two more retro-futurist house gems - the kind of kaleidoscopic, rave-inspired tracks that evoke memories of early '90s pirate radio stations and illegal parties full of smiling dancers in bad long sleeve t-shirts. Choose between the bouncy stabs, hazy vocal cuts, bleep-era bass and snappy, cheap-sounding beats of "Codex", and "NRG", a piano-laden banger that makes great use of some familiar samples that were once a staple of breakbeat hardcore and bouncy house records. Oh, and the unmistakable rhythmic swing of UK garage.

Review: Sweden's HNNY (strictly pronounced 'honey' for the newcomers!) returns to New York's Let's Play House with a devious four-tracker for the summer months. "Solsidan" is a beautifully groovy deep house number with distinct jazz and r&b influences - the vocal samples are simply seductive - and the remix duties come from Avalon Emerson who drops in a heavier load of beats and breaks for floor devastation. On the flip, "Alby" goes downtempo with its charming Rhodes keys but Ana Helder shifts the beat back into bump-mode on her version of the cut. Far out.

Review: Hudd Traxx celebrate their 10th Anniversary and 50th Release in style with a 4 part Compilation called 'Now & Then'. The first part includes tracks from Chez Damier, Tomson, Agnes & Iron Curtis. Over the years Hudd have released music from the likes of Matthew Herbert, DJ Sneak, Rolando, Rick Wade, Iz & Diz, JT Donaldson and a whole load more. The concept behind the release celebrates both new & classic tracks on the 'Now' & 'Then' sides respectively. Man of the moment Tomson kicks things off with a typically straight up House number entitled 'On The Buttons', and definitely is right on them with this one. Chicago legend Chez Damier steps up to the plate next with an Epic Deep House groover with elements of soulful Jazz, which will be well received for those late night or early morning sets. "Brilhantina" is a percussion-heavy slice of four-to-the-floor soul with synths straight out of the Detroit playbook. "Quem Vai Querer" ups the ante with a juicy bottom end (think mid 00's Yam Who), feel-good chants and a conga roll so hypnotic you'll be shaking your hips for hours. Benjamin 'Ben Sun' returns to the label for his third appearance with "Tricks On Wax", an utterly funky and bass-heavy sample-house number reminiscent of the Moodymann school of sound. Nestling snugly into the SE London beatdown sound Bradley has been cultivating through the label, Back In The Millenium is pleasantly hard to pin down with bits of house, hip hop and acid thrown into the mixer. Johan Cederberg was responsible for the label's debut release so it seems quite fitting he's back with more sweet HNNY business to usher in the second year of Omena.
