Minimal/Tech House
Track 1 (10:07)
Review: The shadowy EEE series has already brought us tasty and much-played tech-house interpretations of a familiar jazz-house gem and a string-laden '80s synth-pop shuffler. Their third single-sided affair - as championed by Zip and Riccardo, no less - takes on a much-loved early noughties R&B classic, placing carefully selected and sequenced vocal snippets around a seriously snappy and sub-bass-heavy groove. Although tech-house in style - note the glitchy electronic noises and spacey effects fixed to the beats - the track's infectious rhythm track was clearly influenced by the current electro revival. This added swing and shoulder-swinging looseness, coupled with the familiarity of the vocal elements, makes EEE03 a guaranteed peak-time winner.

Let Go Of This Acid (7:23)
Acid Lines (6:16)
Review: According to the accompanying press release, Magnetic Man member Artwork (AKA early dubstep pioneer Arthur Smith) spent three years trying to clear the vocal samples used on this EP. While many would have given up trying, Smith persisted - and eventually got agreements from all concerned - due to the fantastic response the track has been getting from DJ plays. Certainly, the track is something of a beast: a full-throttle TB-303 acid assault that not only boasts seriously mind-altering electronic hooks, but also some seriously sassy vocal snippets and a fantastic breakdown/drop combination. Equally as impressive is flipside "Acid Lines", whose familiar, echo-laden vocal refrain is probably the one that caused his lawyers most headaches. Naturally, it acts as the wiggly acid tune's main hook.

Invisible Ink (7:16)
Lessons In Jerboa (6:06)
The 99 Year Wait (6:24)
Devotion (7:43)
Review: Asad Rizvi's trips back into immersive shimmer and rock solid grooves of his Silverlining alias continue apace with this eighth clutch of club-ready workouts for the tech house classicists out there. "Invisible Ink" is a supremely dubbed out affair, but not at the expense of the peppy rhythm section, while "Lessons In Jerboa" makes it all about the drums with a killer swinging snare rattle to get the dancefloor freaking. "The 99 Year Wait" is a taut, wriggly tech workout that gets right to the point and stays there, and then "Devotion" finishes the record on a tender, melodious ambient tip.

Solastalgia (6:41)
The Unavoidable Consequence Of You (6:00)
Tradition No 3 (6:24)
Review: Consistently vibrating at a frequency beyond the conventional realms of house and techno, UntilMyHeartStops returns with a particularly captivating transmission from furtive jazz-peddling beatsmith Tom Ellis. This release serves as an opportunity for the Freerotation regular to move into a techno-inflected space without losing his handle on delicate, evocative pathways through the minimal milieu. The subtle throb of "Solastalgia" sounds especially at home on UMHS, hinging around snaking machine rhythms and a buttery bassline that could easily go on for days without growing tiresome. Watch out for "The Unavoidable Consequence Of You" though - a feisty party heater that finds Ellis dipping his toe into the sample / edit snakepit and pulling out a python.

Code North (5:59)
Sohallo (5:52)
Live Needs Dialog (6:09)
Review: With a name like Philipp Boss, one commands a certain level of respect - naturlich! The Frankfurt Am Main based producer has affiliations with local minimal house royalty like Hoer, La Pena, Pager and city institution Gosu, so he ain't messin' around. His next one comes courtesy of fellow Hessen homeboy Baba Osman's imprint. The Code North EP features a bunch of killer retro inspired jams that follow in the tradition of local heroes - from Anthony Rother to fellow contemporaries like the Traffic crew. The soulful analogue funk of the title track will no doubt bear comparisons to Dopplereffekt/Japanese Telecom, while there's funky-minimal-bleep house on the bumpin' "Sohallo" up next. On the flip, he bridges the gap between the two styles on the late night vocoder antics of "Live Needs Dialog".

Review: Minimal and tech-house DJs went wild for the first, double album-length missive from Germany's OFFM label, so we expect this follow-up to sell quickly, too. As with its predecessor, there's much to get excited about on OFFM number two, from the breezy synth stabs, undulating blissful melodies and bubbly rhythm of DJ Meme Generator's "Lowlife" and the throbbing tech-funk of Non Paying Buyer's "Pressato", to the deliciously spacey wonder that is Tomi's "Moti", where dreamy chords and intergalactic electronics ebb and flow above a rolling Paris-style tech-house groove. In other words, it's another top-notch selection of well-produced club cuts.

Review: Even by East End Dubs' prolific standards, Social is a seriously epic proposition. Set to showcase 30 tracks over three sizeable releases (this first instalment boasts five slabs of wax), its effectively one epic debut album split into parts. Naturally, it's not an album in a traditional sense, but rather a superb collection of dancefloor workouts in the producer's trademark style. Social Part 1, then, is like an East End Dubs starter pack: a fine collection of deep, dubby and sturdy cuts that brilliantly blend elements of deep house and tech-house. There are naturally plenty of darker, early morning moments, but pleasingly these come accompanied by a cluster of deeper and more melodious workouts.

Review: Anders Trentemoller was the noughties' greatest crossover star. From his humble beginnings releasing sleek tech house on imprints like Naked Music, Audiomatique and of course Berlin's Poker Flat - who released his modern classic The Last Resort in 2006. It gets a much deserved reissue here. Trentemoller went on to form his well received In My Room imprint, and go on to headline festivals and pack out stadiums with his acclaimed live show since. The Danish producer's debut album is actually appearing on vinyl for the first time here on a triple disc gatefold and featuring all 13 songs. The album received fantastic acclaim from both fans and journalists around the world and made it into the top-lists of the month, year and decade - alongside an array of awards for best production or best album.

Iso Grifo
Lava
Round
Review: In the field of minimal house reissues, this is a big deal. Perlon main man Dimbiman doesn't appear on wax often, but when he does he makes it count. This early release on Baby Ford's seminal Pal SL was originally out in 1998, when minimal house was a vague concept at best on the most outer reaches of dance music. "Iso Grifo" itself remains a masterclass of spine-chilling space and perfectly strange sonic matter, while "Lava" pushes the notion of reduction dance music to its absolute limit. "Round" is an even more immersive affair that hides many subtle layers within its seemingly simple construct. Quite simply groundbreaking stuff, and highly sought after so don't sleep on it.

Review: Innervisions bosses Frank Wiedemann and Kristian Beyer return as Ame, and present their first full length entitled Dream House - described as a home listening styled journey. The German duo spent three years working on the LP and it features collaborations with legends of German electronic music such as Roedelius and Gudrun Gut, as well as Bolivian singer David Lemaitre and Jens Kuross - who was a member of Wiedemann's other venture The Howling, with Ry Cuming. Highlights include their dramatic collaboration with Matthew Herbert "The Line", the upbeat disco number "Blind Eye" (featuring Planningtorock), the chill balearica of "Positivland" and the evocative/melodic dreamscape of "No War".

Review: Mysterious Romanian business by DRG Series, on their sophomore effort. Organic and hypnotic trance induction, that takes you deep into the Transylvanian countryside on the A side cut - this will no doubt appeal to fans of fellow countrymen Vid or Ada Kaleh's journeys into the esoteric. On the flip, we are treated to something more straight ahead on this rolling minimalist groove - this is perfect for early morning weirdness at Sunwaves or Waha Festival.

Review: Austria's Philipp Lichtblau serves up the sophomore effort for his Vienna based Movin' imprint - which is not only a label, but also an event series at Vienna's Pratersauna and Sass Club. He has released numerous EP's on labels such as Traum sublabel MBF Ltd, Kina Music and ETE. Following up a great split EP with German minimal hero Ben Rau, Lichtblau strikes again with "Create" which is perfect modern tech house: rolling and hypnotic just the way we like it, and will appeal to fans of Djebali or iO (Mulen). Second original offering "Overthinking" follows on the flip, but it is all about Italian Alex Ground's tremendous remix - he delivers a boompty, swing-fuelled deep groove - which will be perfect to get hips moving on afterhours dancefloors.

Review: In early 2017, the incredibly unusual alliance of The Martinez Brothers, Ibadan head honcho Jerome Sydenham, German legend Martin Buttrich and Canadian techno wizard Mathew Jonson resulted the affectionately titled Joint Custody EP. On the track "No Pop", Buttrich took time out and Symple Sound boss Filsonik stepped in, resulting in the quartet's sleek acid shuffle. Here, Jonson delivers a bold and hypnotic rendition of the track, which we must admit is a drastic improvement on the original - the man can musically do no wrong! Elsewhere, South Korea rising star Peggy Gou delivers an early 90's stateside house perspective with her remix of The Martinez' "H2DAIZZO" and booty house icon DJ Deeon gives "Stuff In The Trunk" (feat Miss Kittin) a seriously ghetto fabulous makeover.
