  2. We Have It Hot (3:07)
  3. The Time Has Come (2:59)
Review: For the first volume in their brand new Toxic Funk 45s series, the Breakbeat Paradise crew has turned to two stalwarts of the breaks scene, Easy Now Recordings co-founder Tom Showtime and long-serving DJ/producer Badboe. They hit the ground running with A-side "We Funk Tings", a cut-and-paste workout that peppers a head-nodding, bass-heavy hip-hop groove with funk licks, hazy horns and sneaky vocal samples from a variety of ragga and rap records. They continue in a similar vein over on side B, where the horn and piano-heavy hip-hop-funk of "We Have It Hot" is followed by the boom-bap booty business of "The Time Has Come".

  1. Exit 14th Street (5:01)
  2. Dipole (6:03)
  3. K41 018 BXH9 (4:07)
Review: Sheffield based event series (and now label), Groundwork, has been running small parties in intimate spaces, with the aim of pushing local DJ's in a relaxed, non-commercial environment. Inaugurating the imprint is 18-year-old newcomer Porter Brook with his debut EP which effortlessly joins the dots between breakbeat, techno and UK bass. From the deep neo-junglist stepper "Exit 14th Street", barrelling techno banger "Dipole" (laced with bustling drum machine breakbeats), to the intoxicating, contorted experimental twist of "K41 018 BXH9", this is a quality debut from the Steel City. Let's hope it won't be too long before we get a sequel.

Review: London-based retroverts Art Of Dark return with a wicked double header here for their third vinyl release. Antonin Hifda aka Daif takes up the A side, offering up the hardcore rave reductions of "Another Version Of The Truth" followed by the deep down Detroit styled electro beats of "Devil". On the flip, it's all about newcomers DC EFX who follow through with the electro bass vibe on the absolutely booming "Expansionz", before closing with the bass-driven acid techno "The Roller Express".

  4. Overdub (5:37)
Review: In our opinion, there are few labels out there quite as consistent as Craigie Knowes. The Scottish imprint has been on fire of late, and this label debut from Tone Dropout and Klasse Wrecks regular Darren "Dawl" Woollard is another surefire winner. There's a sweaty, saucer-eyed feel to the EP, from the acid-fired breakbeat madness of throbbing opener "Let's Go" and the accurately titled insanity of "Heavyweight" - all chopped-up rave-era riffs, booming bass and skittish drums - to the mind-altering acid psychedelia of hypnotic closing cut "Overdub" and the warehouse-friendly 1990 breakbeat hardcore skip of sub-heavy smasher "Drop It". In other words, it's a reliably charged-up set of misty-eyed workouts.

Love Inna Basement (hand-stamped 12" + insert + MP3 download code) (1 per customer)
Cat: NE 001GH. Rel: 24 Jul 19
  1. Love Inna Basement (Midnite Xtc) (8:32)
  2. Love Inna Basement (Morning dub) (5:54)
Review: A throwback to early '90s hardcore rave here, courtesy of tight knit UK producers Objekt and Call Super. Running with the story of the mythical DJ Bogdan: legend and resident DJ of Berlin's fictitious Q Bar in the city's Schoeneberg district - which ran from the early 90s until its closure in 2012. "Love Inna Basement" is presented here in its two original versions: the Morning Dub which is cited by Objekt as the inspiration behind his 2016 tribute "Theme From Q", and 'Midnite XTC', hailed by Call Super as 'the track I've taken the most garys to in my entire life'.

  1. Paraworld (8:28)
  2. Aletheia (7:23)
  3. Dreams Of Jupiter (2:03)
  4. Blue Smoke (6:23)
Review: These days we're accustomed to producers serving up deep, dreamy and life-affirming fusions of breakbeat, deep house and ambient techno. This wasn't so much the case when Ex-Terrestrial released his debut EP, "Paraworld" in 2016. As this surprise reissue proves, it remains one of the best EPs of its kind. There's much to admire throughout, from title track's bongo-laden, new age deep house warmth, to the seductive ambient bliss of "Dreams of Jupiter", which still reminds us of 2015's Slow Riffs 12" on Mood Hut. Arguably best of all, though, is "Blue Smoke", a brilliant fusion of pitched-down rave breakbeats and comforting, Pete Namlook style ambient chords.

  2. Ahora Si (Frank's Sunrise mix) (5:27)
  3. Ahora Si (Ivan remix) (6:30)
  4. Ahora Si (D Tiffany remix) (6:47)
Review: Butter Sessions latest must-check release comes courtesy of Melbourne-based rising star Furious Frank, whose recent EP on Paper-Cuts was particularly impressive. "Ahora Si" is similarly inspired, with the young Australian producer placing Ivy Barkakati's "Sueno Latino" style whispered vocal over a bold, alluring blend of jangling dream house pianos, rugged acid lines, sunrise-ready chords and loose-limbed analogue beats. He provides his own dream house style interpretation (the brilliant "Frank's Sunrise Mix") before inviting Ivan to give his take on the track. He adds some tribal percussion whilst retaining the cut's inherent dreaminess before Canadian producer D. Tiffany re-imagines "Ahora Si" as a bass-heavy chunk of UKG/breakbeat house fusion.

Review: We've been waiting for this for a while now... After some heavyweight support from Aphex Twin, west country artist Goldefish makes his debut with four seismic slabs of electronic bliss. "Radon" is a dreamy jungle joint, all roughly hewn and starry-eyed. It's back by the thundering stomps and 303 wizardy of "Acid Immersion", the freeform breakbeat chaos of "Moonlight" and an absurdly good remix of Vandelay founder Dare Balogun's summer-tinged house cut "We Could Have Had Brunch". Chow down!

Stranger (12")
Cat: SNKR 021. Rel: 31 Jul 19
  1. Stranger (6:21)
  2. TP (5:46)
Review: Kicking off with 'Stranger', we're talking serious jungle-revivalist fare, amens and gunshots abound as the inimitable Horsepower Productions again prove why they can do little wrong in the eyes of bass heads. Reversed strings and wobbly bass stabs counterbalance the track, bringing tempo down below where it actually is without losing any of the raw power. A workout that'll do well within a warm-up or when used for a reprieve from the mayhem of energy-filled peak time sets. 'TP' is a heavier, less forgiving assault, its rolling broken drums, vocal shouts on the fourth of each bar and frenzy-inducing hoovers build an intensity at odds with the speed of the tune itself. Emerging from a beat-free intro featuring a sample from iconic 80s movie 'Trading Places', it's evidence that full-throttle doesn't always mean fast.

  2. Lord Of The Null Lines (5:23)
  3. Imajika (Smiley Rock remix) (4:20)
  4. Thundergrip (5:06)
Review: One of several remastered releases from Kniteforce, rave legends Hyper On Experience are in the midst of a major reissue spree right now and dancefloors are all the better for it. Originally released 1994 on Moving Shadow, "Deaf In The Family" was the final chapter of the duo's family-flavoured series and it sprawled right across the rave spectrum. "Timestretch" was all about the tension and sense of panic while "Lord Of The Null Lines" is straight up early D&B. Elsewhere, the Smiley Rock remix of "Imajika" goes in hard on the breaks before stripping back to a breakdown from heaven while "Thundergrip" closes the EP with some serious mania that teeters on the happy side of hardcore while remaining hard as nails.

INSTINCT 07 (140 gram 12")
Cat: INSTINCT 07. Rel: 19 Aug 19
  1. INSTINCT - "Opeeration" (5:49)
  2. Jack Michael - "Hypa" (7:39)
Review: Active for the past couple of years, Burnski's Instinct alter ego has been a revealing window into the ruder side of this seasoned producer's repertoire, and so it continues on round seven of this self-titled label series. The A-side jam "Operation" finds the Leeds stalwart in UK Garage mode, riding a mean bassline flex and amping up the 2-Step shuffle. Jack Michael takes up the B-side mission with a razor-sharp electro workout that matches bleepy electronica with badass breaks and nasty bass to get bodies freaking all over the joint. This is a record precision primed for basement sessions - if you're looking for some sounds to do real damage in the dance, look no further.

  1. Abraxas (6:46)
  2. Young Star Cluster (6:00)
  3. How Can You Tell (6:30)
Review: Earlier in the year Lone launched the Ancient Astronauts imprint via a single-track digital single that wrapped his usual sun-soaked electronics and kaleidoscopic synthesizer melodies around a ridiculously rubbery bassline and crunchy, club-ready breakbeats. Here he offers up the label's first vinyl EP, a three-track missive that's as loved-up as you'd expect. Check first "How Can You Tell", an ultra-deep, dreamy and rushing chunk of deep jungle revivalism full of psychedelic acid lines, slack-tuned breakbeats, yearning chords and bowel-bothering sub-bass. Equally as impressive is A-side opener "Abraxas", a delightful cut that fits between rush-inducing moments of loved-up bliss and the kind of intensely bustling breakbeats that were once all the rage on British dancefloors. "Young Star Cluster", a killer combination of hip-house style breaks and funk-fuelled acid lines, is also superb.

Review: Pure, infectious, filthy, brilliant club energy. Steve Marie takes the a-side by the horns, first with the ravey, jacked up acid cut "JuplVtrax", then the nimble drum work and ducking and diving synths of "Psychedelia", which brings to mind flickering old VHS of illicit field gatherings from the nineties. Astral Body then takes you even deeper down the rabbit hole with the manic 303 and hyperdrive drums of "Galaxy Beat". "Equinox" closes things out with surging solar waves, rippling acid modulations and kaleidoscopic colours that leave you breathless. Reach for the lasers, etc.

  4. Recollection (4:06)
Review: Valencia's Pepe has built up quite a discography over the last few years, with this fine outing on Church following similarly impressive releases for Let's Play House, Lobster Theremin, Loose Fit and Sprung. The EP's impressive title track is available in two variations: the sparkling, breakbeat powered "Roll Mix" - think hip-house style drums, weighty dub bass and occasional dreamy chords - and a "Bleep Mix" that beefs up the sub-bass while adding some suitably sparse, computer game style electronic melodies. Another clear highlight is "You Must Not Be Me", a fine combination of rush-inducing, sunrise-ready electronics and bustling breaks, while closing cut "Recollection" is a rather lovely drift into opaque ambient territory.

  4. Jonno & Tommo - "Efficacy" (Havantepe Emax Potentiation) (6:24)
Review: The Verdant label continues to plumb depths others fail to reach in the search for the most immersive techno emanating from the underground. On this split disc, the A side is under the control of Sirko Muller, who unfurls a masterful take on dub techno and minimal house as subtle as it is sublime. RV800 then remixes "Affinity" and makes it into a bouncy, acid-flecked groover that remains true to Verdant's deep dynamics. Jonno & Tommo take on the flip with the sultry mood piece "Efficacy," a spooked-out trip of a track that gets flipped into a slippery electro number by Havantepe.

  4. Trance 24 (5:11)
Review: While some veteran DJs may shake their head disapprovingly at the current fixation with trance, there's no denying that younger selectors and dancers love the style's seeming revival. One of the key drivers of this movement has been Tusk Wax offshoot Trance Wax, which here reaches its sixth instalment. The EP's four tracks are reworks of glassy-eyed classics. "Trance 21" is a giddily melodious and rush-inducing revision of a throbbing progressive trance workout, while "Trance 22" is a glorious, breakbeat house style version of an old Rozalla hit. Over on side B, "Trance 23" is muscular, raw and full-throttle, while "Trance 24" is a deliciously dreamy breakbeat-trance affair tailor-made for loved-up sunrises and shimmering Mediterranean sunsets.

Review: Somewhat surprisingly, two years has passed since Traumer launched the "Gettraum Hors Series" of ultra-limited, hand-stamped singles. We're not quite sure why the French producer - real name Romain Reynaud - has held back volume two, but we're happy to say that it's been well worth the wait. He hits the ground running with "Exercise", a sun-soaked chunk of tech-house funk built around jaunty stabs, glistening chords and a thickset synth bassline, before reaching for sub-heavy analogue bass, rolling drums and more sparkling electronics on the similarly positive sounding "Pago". Over on side B, "Bassomatic" is an acid-fired slammer shot through with sneaky audio references to turn of the '90s "bleep and bass", while gorgeous closing cut "Brocomania" wraps attractive dub techno motifs and ambient chords around warm bass and bustling breakbeats.

Review: Mint Condition's ear for essential reissues has struck gold time and time again. Next up in their spotlight is a 1996 EP from Two Full Minds that was first released by Bushwacka! & DJ Vorn. Whether the agelessness of this record is a testament to the producers' original vision or a sign that dance music doesn't evolve as much as it thinks is unclear, but what's certain is that these tracks bang. There's the impish cosmic synths and clacking breakbeats of the title track, the brilliantly named "I Hate Anthea Turner", which is a spaced out garage-tech kicker, and ecstasy rush of closer "Space Port" all ready to do damage on the floor.

Review: After a series of well received albums on 100% Silk and HNYTRX, Maya Bouldry-Morrison returns with her first album in two years, and the first on the T4T LUV NRG imprint she set up with life partner Eris Drew. It's a thrill-a-minute affair rooted in her love of turn-of-the-'90s rave culture, with the eight showcased tracks variously mixing elements of breakbeat hardcore, Belgian techno, dreamy deep house, ambient techno, ragging acid and the kind of psychedelic club fare that was once all the rage within California's LSD-fuelled free party scene. In fact, as a soundtrack to a full moon party on a remote "SoCal" beach, "Resonant Body" would sound phenomenal, with the inspired ambient number "My Body Is A Powerful" offering a fine accompaniment to the inevitable morning comedown.

Review: If timeless warehouse music and bass-heavy rave revivalism is your thing, there's a fair chance you already own some Soundbwoy Killah records. Whether you do or not, we'd heartily recommend checking the shadowy producer's debut album, "Halcyon Daze". It's little less than a breathless, saucer-eyed romp through heady fusions of dreamy UK garage, melodious jazzy jungle, loved-up breakbeat hardcore, African-influenced tribal percussion and gargantuan low-end pressure. It's all arguably a little more relaxed and sunrise-ready than some of his 12" singles - this is an album, after all - but that's not a criticism: in fact, the album's sporadic ambient moments are uniformly excellent, sounding like long lost early 90s classics.
