  2. Jessy Lanza, DJ Spinn & Taso - "You Never Show Your Love" (instrumental) (3:43)
  3. Jessy Lanza, DJ Spinn & DJ Rashad - "You Never Show Your Love" (Teklife mix) (4:04)
  4. Jessy Lanza - "Fuck Diamond" (Bambounou remix) (7:05)
Review: Last seen lining the Freestyle antics of Morgan Geist's latest project The Galleria on the excellent Calling Card 12" on Environ, Jessy Lanza returns to Hyperdub for a record that pairs her up with the Teklife crew. A superb vocalist, Lanza excels when matched with the rolling snares, crisp kicks and thick bass provided by DJ Spinn and Taso resulting in "You Never Show Your Love" sounding every bit like a modern R&B classic. It's accompanied by a Teklife remix which retains the mood whilst adding some Footwork flex into the mixer (the late DJ Rashad was involved in the production of this too). To close out the record, Hyperdub have slipped in Bambounou's excellent drum heavy remix of Lanza's "F*ck Diamond" which originally featured on one of the label's anniversary compilations last year.

  2. Zdry Connexion (5:38)
  3. Kyle Aux Rennes (3:41)
  4. Sweet Vanilla (5:42)
Review: An air of mystique BFDM's 11th release both musically and conceptually as the shadowy Lastrack steps up with four staggering slices of innovative broken techno music. "Clairette To Die" is ghost of dub past coming back to make us pay for brostep - sinister, menacing and rich in textures, this blows minds on every occasion. "Zdry Connexion" tips a wry, subversive nod to raves gone past with its hypey stuttering edits while "Kyle Aux Rennes" takes everything you thought you knew about techno and turns it inside out in the grainiest, most unpredictable way. "Sweet Vanilla" plays the role of dessert - a sweet palette cleanser from the chewy gulliness of the previous three courses, it's an airy, loosely-hewn roller drenched in deep layers of atmospheres. Breath-taking.

Review: Release 13. Unlucky for some but not for Kokeshi as they unearth a new name; Lore. Little is known about him besides that he's from Manchester and he's sculpting some seriously singular beats. "Down The Well" calls on us with a familiar vocal, subverted to smithereens over a spaced-out two-step, "Lillies" sweeps us away with strange rubber ball bass jitters and an alien drum arrangement that hypnotises at first click, finally "Many Faces" adds a little glam-swamp to the mix with its swaggering tripletty rhythm and eerie textures. Some Lores are made to be broken.

  1. Track 1 (5:30)
  2. Track 2 (5:03)
  3. Track 3 (5:49)
Review: Bristol bassheads Lurka and Batu have long been friends, so its little surprise to see them join forces for a collaborative effort on the former's freshly minted Fringe White label. The untitled track lurking (sorry) on the A-side is an analogue affair built around heavy sub bass, metallic rhythms and flashes of vintage Motor City electronics, as if the duo has reinvented Yorkshire bleep for the broken techno generation. Flip for a metronomic 4/4 slammer with subtle UK funky influences (particularly in the mutilated, Serato's-gone-mental melodies), and a sparser, more electro influenced cut that bounces, bobs and weaves impressively.

Review: Machinedrum heralds his next album on new home Ninja Tune with the Eyesdontlie single, introducing the Vapor City concept the producer said was inspired by a recurring dream . Fans of his stellar 2011 album Room(s) will be glad to hear his signature sound incorporating footwork and more experimental elements is still intact, though the lead track here seems steeped in dreamier textures. The B-side track "Body Touch" however is a different beast, harking back to his earlier hip hop-inspired productions. An excellent single that bodes well for the album...

  1. Mala - "Expected, Level 10"
  2. DVA - "Technical Difficulties"
  3. Kuedo - "Mtzpn"
  4. Kode9 - "Xingfu Lu" (Helix remix)
Review: Hyperdub kick off the vinyl side to their ten-year celebrations with this weighty four-tracker from some of the leading lights from the label's story. Mala is in a strident mood with "Expected, Level 10" carrying through that extra touch of melody from the Mala In Cuba LP. DVA cuts loose with the leftfield scattershot groove of "Technical Difficulties", reveling in tonal experimentation and jagged rhythmic flair to a stunning end. Still locked into the sci-fi trap tangent that characterised Severant, Kuedo turns out the haunting "Mtzpn" and Helix pops up for a remix of Kode9's "Xingfu Lu" that strips down to bare essentials with a little starlit soul rubbed into the framework.

Review: Hot on the heels of his Tectonic EP, Berlin-based Brit Hugo continues on his expedition into more broken territories with five fractured forays on E-Beamz. "Where Your Body Begins" sets the tone with menacing bass tones blasting beneath slow jungle rolls before being countered by the Bicep-flexing drifter "The Only Constant Is Change". Deeper again; "Alien Shapes" is the teeth grinder of the set with its rasping, rising venomous acid and brittle breaks, "Circles" re-soothes our soul with a rippling beatless floatation sensation and "Faith In Chaos" throws us in a big bubbly bath of acid for a final hoorah. Hugo Massive more like...

  1. Ambience (5:33)
  2. UFO (4:58)
Review: Quadrants boss Mele is relentless in his production output, but rarely gets to see his work committed to vinyl. Shout outs to Redlight's equally busy Lobster Boy label for granting man like Mele's Ambience single the physical treatment then. Mele's reluctance to be pigeonholed is on full display with these two club ready cuts; the title track is a carnival-esque fusion of deep tribal beats, diva vocals and absurd breakdown. Complementing this "UFOZ" heads off into quirkier territory, with Mele conjuring a helium-filled laser attack of a production.

Review: Quadrants main man and Merseyside's finest Mele is back with Queens Day: no doubt a tribute to Amsterdam's best party of the year and what a fitting soundtrack it is. A Latin-esque Carnival flavoured track that crosses over with bass music splendidly. Those whistles and steel drums are pretty sick, but just wait for that drop! Second track "Body Thing" continues on with the Latin festive vibes; those steel drums go even more ballistic with even more funk, this track could easily mix well with some summery big room tech house for monstrous effect.

  3. The Beds (5:45)
  4. Mineral Water (3:15)
Review: Since debuting with a thought-provoking cassette on Where To Now back in 2015, Melly has brought his brand of off-kilter electronics to Jheri Tracks and, under the DJ Apres Ski alias, Major Problems. Here he returns to the Dublin imprint with a quartet of cuts that are dreamy, head-in-the-clouds melodiousness at the heart of the action. There's something wonderfully blissful and thrillingly positive about near beat-free opener "Shrubbery" - a tropical ambient head-rush of epic proportions - while "Health Is Wealth" is a far more rough-and-ready, forthright take on dub techno than you'd expect. Melly doffs a cap to the current obsession with breakbeat-driven dream house revisionism on B-side opener "The Beds", before rolling something sizeable and diving into ambient dub waters on shimmering closer "Mineral Water".

  1. Pillow (8:31)
  2. Blakeup (5:11)
  3. A Posture For Learning (6:03)
  4. Held Open (6:37)
Review: Racer Productions came steam-rolling through the scene earlier this year with an excellent debut single from Emma De Seze, and now the label are back with another fresh name, the supremely talented newcomer Mischa Lively. "Pillow" sounds like it's come from the hands of highly experienced producer - someone like Joey Anderson - and its rickety, off-kilter percussion is full of swing and pleasure; "Blakeup" breaks down the rigid 4/4 groove in favour of a more twisted, kick-heavy hybrid cut. "A Posture For Thought" is considerably more stripped-down and carries more of a techno swag, while "Held Open" once again tears the house format down to a jittery, dub-infused vibe.

  1. Mizz Beats & Von D - "Dot Compulsion" (6:35)
  2. Mr Lager & Von D - "Some Other Place" (4:08)
Review: For their debut 12", freshly minted label Reflektion Tapes has pulled off something of a coup by signing up Von D, a storied producer who has released killer material on such imprints as Apron, Trojan Audio, Sub Freq and Black Acre. On this outing, the Frenchman showcases a pair of collaborative tracks. On the A you'll find "Dub Compulsion", a deliciously soulful, organic sounding hook-up with Deep Medi and Eglo sort Mizz Beats. While the crispy beats and bassline and suitably heavy, it's the wavering vocal samples and sparkling keys that really catch the ear. Former Diagrams man Mr Lager lends a hand on side two's "Some Other Place", a deep space fusion of delay-laden percussion hits, ultra-deep bass and swirling, intergalactic atmospherics.

  1. Chimes

  4. Chimes (Gammer re-edit)
Review: What a year it's been for Warp. So far in 2014, other than Aphex Twin's Syro, the label has released music from Squarepusher, Oneohtrix Point Never and Jackson & His Computer Band to Plaid, Nightmares On Wax and Rustie - with another album by Clark forthcoming. Now one of Glasgow's most colourful producers (check out the cover art), Hudson Mohawke returns to home base with his first official release since the Satin Panthers EP. As usual there's a kaleidoscope of sounds to be heard on Chimes alongside hip hop beats, footwork skitters and gangster 'woof' vocals, and if "Joy Fantastic" from Butter is a Hud Mo fav, then "King Kong Beaver" should fill you with hope that a follow up LP is on the way.

  5. Space Afrika - "After They Entered It Was Only Evident" (3:59)
Review: "Shared Meanings" has been one of Mumdance's most ambitious and explorative projects to date; pulling together the four corners of the hardcore continuum and tying them in a tight bow, his mix has drawn elements and parallels between all genres and laced them in a narrative that mirrors and reflects throughout. Now, for limited time only, we have five of the 32 tracks he included in the mix ranging from his and Logos' totem track "Teachers" which pays homage to the UK's forefathers, to the pulverising thumpy bumpy techno of Nkisi's "Kinenga" via stasis sensation ambience from Space Afrika in the form of "After They Entered It Was Only Evident". Coordinates don't come much broader or deeper, "Shared Meanings" is Mumdance in full on explorer mode. Long may his meaningful trips continue.

Review: Mensah returns to Lobster Boy with more heavyweight jams under the New York Transit Authority name. Up top "Brooklyn Underground" veers into classic electro territory as crisp 808 programming meets metallic bass tones reminiscent of Radioactiveman at his most futuristic and alien. The superbly titled "Dinner & Corsica" heads down a much darker path as Mensah shows his skills at punchy acid house with a bassline that does all the talking and the kick/snare struts that do all the listening. Dark room, dubby and seriously dangerous stuff from Lobster Boy!

Loaded with transitions, tempo spasms and crafty cosmic b-boy elements "2CPU" glides between 120-40 by way of the bendiest bass you'll hear this side of the golden gates while "Ape Dance" calls up our oldest ancestors by way of dense percussive rolls and layers of bass and asks them for a lesson in how to live wisely again. From roots to future, this covers it all.

Review: The first single to be taken from Maya Jane Coles' new dub-minded Nocturnal Sunshine project, both "Take Me There" and "Never Too Late" explore the fertile pastures amid the tech/dub axis with garage-minded glee. The former is a relentless, jittering stepper peppered with an array of twisted processed vocals. The latter, meanwhile, comes with more of Get Physical-style tubular bass and thundering rhythm that will sit in almost any style DJ's playlist from deep house to dubstep. If you like these, you'll love the album.

Review: Macabre Unit Digital founder Demon dons his Nurve guise for a ruthless Tectonic jam. Flickering and fluctuating between techno, breaks and all things dub, there's a dark, twisted physical edge to each track. "Pyromaniac" rattles with chunky 4/4s and distant waves that are reminiscent of Max Cooper, "Brain Sugar" is thundering tribal techno while "Cabana" punches with a really grainy squat party riff and pensive drum arrangements while "Drugs Don't Work" stutters and stalls with Radioactiveman style breaks to darkly trippy effect. Heavyweight.

Review: Kode9's Hyperdub releases are always eagerly awaited and this one is no exception. The South African producer now based in London presents a series of sublime steppers featuring the gorgeous vocals of Manthe Ribane. "Dear Ribane" starts things off smoothly with its minimal arrangement but the 2-step garage influence on "Sizzr" gets on the more energetic vibe. "Fede" gets more of a house groove happening alongside some serious low end bass. "Glonet" ends things on a darker tip, but that rolling groove that he has a sense for gets stuck in again at justthe right spot.
