Review: You can easily understand why Yello could rue the day they finished the seminal track 'Oh Yeah'. A bumbling and eccentric synth pop workout that almost sounds like someone got their first Casio keyboard and started playing something with all the weird and wonderful noises stored in its limited memory banks, while the track itself should have been destined for obscurity successive Hollywood movies of the 1980s had different ideas.

Hence the tune is etched into the common conscious. What many people don't realise, though, is how much of a flash in the pan Yello weren't, and how that track is just one moment in a relentlessly adventurous 40 year career. Hence this collection looking to showcase everything else that happened. Some of which, perhaps surprisingly, could be seen as paving the way for the likes of Alabama 3. Don't worry, though, 'Oh Yeah' is on here, too.

Review: Last year marked four decades since Boris Blank and Dieter Meier released their first album as Yello, alongside then third member Carlos Peron. To celebrate the milestone, they've decided to offer up this exhaustive but - given the length of their career - surprisingly tight retrospective. CD one chronicles their career highlights from the first two decades of their career, when they enjoyed their biggest chart hits (see 'Oh Yeah') and were renowned for an eccentric form of synth-pop that relied heavily on unusual samples and off-kilter rhythms. Disc two looks at their second 20 years, offering up a similarly odd but inspired mixture of eccentric pop and dancefloor electronica. Fittingly, it finishes with a rousing 2016 live version of 'The Race', another of their brilliant 1980s singles.

Review: It's always difficult when a track has such an immense legacy everyone knows it decades on from its release date, and the release dates of the many movies that made it such an iconic tune. Such is the case with Yello's 'Oh Yeah', the breathy and bizarre 1980s electro-funk stepper we all love to forget the title of but can always chime in with the 'ch-ch-chas' at exactly the right moment.

This one moment of glory does not a legendary Swiss electro outfit make, though, and Yello's entire back catalogue is worth anyone's time, and this latest addition, their first new outing since 2016's 'Toy', is as good a place as any to begin. From the whispered house groove of "Core Shift", to "Arthur Speak"'s twisted cold wave chug, or "Hot Pan"'s epic, movie-scale acid weirdness, once again it's about whimsy, whit, precision and huge vision - a serious trip.

Review: Music On Vinyl are our new best friends. With a wide range of music being reissued as of late, Yello's 1987 One Second is just spoiling us. Never being fully acclaimed when it was originally released, this is one album which really spans the full circle in terms of artistic ideas sonic experimentations. While being tagged primarily as a pop work, it's really more of a lesson in synth manipulations and nutty beat-making. "The Rhythm Divine" has to be out top track but do check the whole thing, it's magnificent...
