Review: 24-year-old solo guitarist Yasmin Williams returns with her sophomore album, which reaffirms the idea that she's one of the most original and adventurous singer-songwriters currently working in music. And not just because of the back story, whereby she mastered the video game Guitar Hero 2, only to find playing the real thing more challenging unless it was laid out on her lap and used like a keyboard, with fast finger-work also providing percussive accompaniment.

The result is a vibrant sound that's unlike most things you'll here. Or at least Urban Driftwood is, whereby the alt-guitar maestro shows off her deft skills at composing by adding a raft of West African instruments to the mix, such as the kora and djembe. Optimism on record, although never afraid to lay out fears, scars and home truths, it's another remarkable chapter in what's fast becoming one of our favourite new sonic stories.
