Review: Jazz vocalist Wanda Stafford first came to the attention of international listeners in 1961, releasing the well-regarded - but now devilishly hard to find - debut album In Love For The Very First Time on Roulette. Six years later, she found herself on RCA, delivering a bossa-nova-influenced soul-jazz 7" written and produced by bassist John Strickland. That record has become something of a must-have for soul-jazz collectors, and here gets a worthy reissue on Tramp Records. Flipside "Blue Guitar", in which Strickland's double bass plays a more prominent role, is almost as good.
