Frames (12")
Cat: REL 010. Rel: 06 Apr 13
  1. Truck
  2. Sediments
  3. Acid Choice
  4. At The Warehouse
Review: Yes! John Swing and EMG re-engage on the Vinalog project with perhaps the finest Relative transmission to date. There are definite elements of chaos at play on lead cut "Truck" which staggers unrelentingly forward, powered by a growling bassline and rugged, staggering drums before a hellish array of ghostly voices mesh together and send the production into meltdown in a manner that will appeal greatly to Blawan. Alongside it "Sediments" feels caked in dirt from the off, with scraggly white noise trying to drag the thumping beat beneath but failing as an army of extra drums appear and crush your senses. Cruddy lysergic elements ripple menacingly in the lower reaches of the "Acid Choice" tool whilst "At The Warehouse" is a suitably industrial sounding exercise in groggy techno replete with slurred vocal samples.

Old Man (limited hand-numbered hand-stamped 12")
Cat: LJL 002. Rel: 17 Mar 16
Deep House
  1. Old Man (7:21)
  2. Old Mandolin (3:37)
Review: Relative main men EMG and John Swing are back as Vinalog but this time on the latter's LiveJam imprint and it's business as usual: tough and dusty, all analogue street level house grooves. The 808 kick on A side cut "Old Man" nearly tears through the speakers, supported by spitting hi-hats encrusted in rust and a creepy monologue backed by a snarling monosynth and industrial metal textures. On the flip we've got "Old Mandolin", a stomping 130 BPM cut that is ferocious and overdriven to the max on this loopy swing fuelled jam that sounds like classic Paul Johnson on steroids. Then the song's namesake gradually creeps in. This is all you need right here!

Deep House
  1. Addiction (9:59)
  2. Addiction (disco 12" unreleased mix) (6:45)
  3. Back To The Front (6:33)
Review: Vinalog as we all know by now are Relative head EMG and LiveJam main man John Swing. Known for their tough, dusty, machine driven house excursions and this is more of the same quality you've come to know them for. The ten minute long epic that is "Addiction" has a rusty, cracking rhythm with the right kind of shuffle which is so infectious, but wait until that sick acid sound comes creeping in. The "Disco 12" unreleased mix" is pretty damn good too; a deep and sexy late night jam with the right amount of funk and melancholic soul to boot! On the flip "Back To The Front" gets a bit tougher with its dark, steely groove. A gnarly bassline carries a seriously hissing analogue rhythm and some jagged sampling so typical of John Swing.
