Quinteto Ternura - "Baby" (2:56)
Trio Ternura - "Filhos De Zambi" (3:02)
Review: The remastered 7" reissue from Brazil 45s/Mr Bongo features two highly coveted tracks from Quinteto Ternura and their predecessor, Trio Ternura. This pressing revives two rare gems from the past with a fresh, high-quality cut. On Side-1, Quinteto Ternura delivers 'Baby,' a dazzling Brazilian modern soul track penned by Caetano Veloso and arranged by Arthur Verocai. Originally from their 1974 self-titled LP, this song is a smooth blend of tropical bliss and has long been a cherished rarity. Flipping to the Side-2, Trio Ternura's 'Filhos De Zambi' offers an upbeat samba-funk delight. Released in the same year, this track is filled with vibrant energy from the original trio, featuring a catchy chorus and a dynamic key change. Co-written by the siblings' father Umberto Silva and Jose Ribamar, it remains a dancefloor favorite. This reissue provides a valuable opportunity to own these classic tracks in their prime.

Review: This 1970s Brazilian soul and funk album is a hidden treasure, bringing together smooth vocals, lush harmonies, and vibrant rhythms that capture the innovative spirit of the era. The trio's seamless fusion of traditional Brazilian sounds with the contemporary funk and soul influences of the time results in a timeless groove that feels both familiar and fresh. Standout tracks like 'Sol Quarenta Graus' and 'Sempre Existe Alguem' showcase the group's dynamic range, blending rich melodies with deep, infectious rhythms. 'Sol Quarenta Graus' rides a sun-soaked vibe with its breezy, laid-back beat, while 'Sempre Existe Alguem' brings in a more introspective yet soulful sound, revealing the trio's ability to balance upbeat and mellow moods effortlessly. Raul Seixas, at the helm of production, elevates the record with his deft touch. The warmth and clarity of the sound give every track a lasting resonance, making it one of those albums that begs for repeat listening. With its blend of Brazilian and global influences, this album is truly one of those overlooked gems in Brazilian music history, deserving far more recognition for its contribution to the soul and funk movement of the 1970s. A must-listen for fans of classic funk with a tropical twist!
