Attack The Dancefloor Vol 16
  1. Akabu - "Ride The Storm" (feat Linda Clifford - Saison remix) (7:21)
  2. The Love Symphony Orchestra - "Let Me Be Your Fantasy" (Dr Packer remix) (7:31)
  3. Joey Negro Presents The Sunburst Band - "Everyday" (JN Disco Re-Bump remix) (7:28)
  4. Art Of Tones - "Flower Child" (feat Anduze) (7:01)
Review: Like its numerous predecessors, 16th edition of Z Records' long running "Attack The Dancefloor" series is packed to the rafters with tried and tested dancefloor treats, most of which have never appeared on vinyl before. First up, Saison tackles Akabu's 2001 classic "Ride The Storm", turning it into a deep, bouncy and rubbery chunk of lilting, string-drenched house goodness, before Dr Packer delivers a subtly tooled-up take on The Love Symphony Orchestra's grandiose and sexually-charged 1978 disco classic "Let Me Be Your Fantasy". Label head honcho Joey Negro provides a superb deep disco rework of one of his own productions, the Sunburst Band's 2004 summer sing-along "Everyday", while Art of Tones' "Flower Child" is a flash-fried, disco-funk romp laden with superb lead vocals from Anduze.

Disco/Nu-Disco
  1. Colors - "Am I Gonna Be The One" (Dr Packer remix) (7:46)
  2. The Sunburst Band & Leroy Burgess - "Survivin'" (Dr Packer remix) (7:43)
  3. JN - "Love Fantasy" (Dr Packer remix) (8:48)
  4. Mistura - "Runnin'" (Dr Packer remix) (6:37)
Review: Operation Disco is a forthcoming album from Dr Packer and this four-track sampler shows up the sort of 80s boogie disco delights we can all look forward to. The artist is in a fine run of form right now and that continues through the slow slung bass and dazzling chords of his remix of soul-drenched opener Colors - 'Am I Gonna Be The One.' His take on The Sunburst Band & Leroy Burgess is more soulful and musical with a loose rhythm section getting you in the groove. The flip side features some blistering house music on 'Love Fantasy' and acrobatic vocals on chunky funker 'Runnin' by Mistura.

Dave Lee Presents 30 Years Of Z Records EP 4
  1. Joey Negro Vs Horse Meat Disco - "Candidate For Love" (Joey Negro Disco Blend) (6:42)
  2. Mistura - "Smile" (feat Kendra Cash - Joey Negro club mix) (7:20)
  3. Letta Mbulu - "Kilimanjaro" (The Revenge edit) (5:49)
  4. Joey Negro Presents The Sunburst Band - "The Secret Life Of Us" (The Reflex Revision) (7:13)
Review: Z Records founder Dave Lee continues to celebrate 30 years of his iconic house and disco label with an ongoing series of various artist EPs. The fourth instalment is another belter opened up by the boss himself in Disco Blend form. He serves up libidinous synths and steamy vocals that get you on your toes and then sinks into a smooth and seductive deep house mould for his remix of Mistura's 'Smile. On the flip, disco don The Revenge works his magic on a lush afro disco cut and then comes a The Reflex version of The Secret Life Of Us which has big strings and a tight rhythm section all bringing the sunshine.

Joey Negro Presents 30 Years Of Z Records EP 3
  1. Joey Negro - "Love Hangover" (Joey Negro club mix) (6:58)
  2. Opolopo - "Get On Up" (5:38)
  3. TW Funkmasters - "Love Money" (Joey Negro dubwise Revision) (7:33)
  4. Joey Negro Presents The Sunburst Band - "Far Beyond" (6:37)
Review: Following on from the bumper compilation on Z Records of all the label's greatest hist, boss man Joey Negro offers up a third volume of 12"s. He goes first with a nice loose mix of 'Love Hangover' that bumps in all the right places. Opolopo's 'Get On Up' is a dazzling cut with cosmic chords and long legged drums that move you to your core, then Joey is back with a slick dubwise version of the classic TW Funkmasters cut 'Love Money.' Last of all, 'Far Beyond' is a reflective closer with far-sighted chords and a late night glow.

Dave Lee Presents 30 Years Of Z Records EP 1
  1. Patrice Rushen - "Haven't You Heard" (Joey Negro extended Disco mix) (6:59)
  2. Akabu - "Another World" (Andre Lodemann remix) (8:54)
  3. The Sunburst Band - "Taste The Groove" (Hot Toddy remix) (6:47)
  4. Sean McCabe - "Reach Out" (feat Hannah Khemoh - Atjazz remix - Joey Negro edit) (6:47)
Review: To celebrate 30 years of his influential Z Records imprint, Dave Lee AKA Joey Negro has put together an epic, digital-only compilation of label highlights, plus a string of vinyl samplers featuring some suitably sought-after remixes. There's naturally much mouth-watering fare on offer on sampler one, from the classic disco celebration of Lee's string-laden, multi-track rework of Patrice Rushen classic "Haven't You Heard" (a mix as strong as any by Tom Moulton), to the modern deep house-soul flex of Lee's edit of Atjazz's terrific rework of overlooked Sean McCabe classic "Reach Out". Sandwiched in between you'll find a smooth, peak-time ready tweak of Akabu's "Another World" by Andre Lodemann, as well as the squelchy disco-boogie brilliance that is Hot Toddy's P-funk re-make of the Sunbrust Band's "Taste The Groove".

Attack The Dancefloor: Special Remix EP
  1. The Sunburst Band - "He Is" (Jimpster remix) (7:21)
  2. Joey Negro - "I Recognise" (feat Sacha Williamson - Andres remix) (6:27)
  3. Prospect Park - "The Kinda Love" (Jkriv remix) (8:06)
  4. Jakatta - "My Vision" (feat Seal - The Vision remix) (7:03)
Review: Dave Lee aka Joey Negro has pulled together a fine team of remixers here to serve up their own versions of tunes by him, Jakarta, The Sunburst Band and Prospect Park, all for his own Z Records. Freerange boss and deep house Don Jimspter goes first and brings real sunshine to his take on 'He Is.' Detroit badman Andres then does what he does best to 'I Recognise', that is layering in hip hop slanted beats and nice rolling baselines under lush chords. On the flip are two more positive house vibrations to make this a handy EP.

Disco/Nu-Disco
  1. Dave Lee's Latin Escapade (7:03)
  2. Dave Lee's Latin Escapade (instrumental) (6:48)
  3. Perdoname (Sunlightsquare club mix) (6:46)
  4. Perdoname (acappella) (4:51)
Review: Dave Lee fka Joey Negro's Z Records is a modern bastion of high quality disco that looks back to go forwards. The latest to contribute to its rich cannon is The Sunburst Band & Sunlightsquare who come together for a special one-off single crafted by a full live band featuring vocals from Rene Alvarez and Susana Ysabel, with other skilled musicians also getting involved. The sound is superbly summery, with bouncy bass and bristling rhythm sections finished with some glossy Latin vocals and Moog solos. There're four variations on that theme that all find a sweet spot.

Joey Negro Presents 30 Years Of Z Records EP 2
  1. Doug Willis - "Crystal Lover" (6:34)
  2. Joey Negro presents The Sunburst Band - "Only Time Will Tell" (feat Angela Johnson) (5:52)
  3. Mid Air - "Ease Out" (The Revenge edit) (7:31)
  4. Joey Negro - "Do What You Feel" (JN Revival mix) (4:49)
Review: If you're looking for some high-grade, tried-and-tested disco and house fare, we'd strongly advise grabbing this second vinyl sampler celebrating 30 years of Dave Lee AKA Joey Negro's popular Z Records imprint. It begins with the insatiably sweaty disco-house hedonism of Doug Willis's down-low 2014 classic "Crystal Lover" - which, surprisingly, has never appeared on vinyl before in this original mix form - and ends with the Revenge's loopy, sort-after, synth-fired re-edit of Mid Air's early '80s disco-boogie classic "Ease Out". In between you'll find Lee's 2015 "JN Revival Mix" of his classic early '90s U.S garage/soulful house jam "Do What You Feel", and the similarly inclined and deliciously sunny "City Connection Mix" of Lee and the Sunburst Band's Angela Johnson-voiced "Only Time Will Tell". As the old cliche goes, this is "all killer, no filler".
