Review: ***B-STOCK: Sleeve damaged but otherwise in excellent condition***

In 1995, The Advent - then a duo, now the solo project of founder member Cisco Ferreira - released debut album "Elements Of Life". Unlike some of the Advent material that followed, it wasn't all hard techno intensity, offering up just as much hard-wired electro futurism. New album "Life Cycles" doffs a cap to that set both in style and presentation, though it's all-electro approach is arguably more sonically similar to 2003's "Light Years Away". Ferreira's take on electro tends towards the tougher end of the spectrum, with weighty basslines and industrial-strength TR-808 drums being peppered with spacey sounds, bleeping melodies and foreboding acid lines. It's aggressive and dystopian rather than deep and melodic, keeping dancefloors in mind throughout. Crucially, it's also really good.

Don't Do It (4:48)
Don't Do It (Piano mix) (3:37)
Jacker (3:57)
Review: The Advent is now of course a solo act but once featured Mr G. After he left the sounds got more and more hard and less soulful as can be heard on this 1998 EP which now gets put out via Discos Perdidos, or 'Lost Records' as part of a new series started by Lisbon label Paraiso. For some reason it was never released back then as other things got in the way but thankfully it arrives now and is a full throttle offering. 'Don't Do It' is an all out assault with frosted synths and banging drums run through with chopped up vocal fragments. 'Don't Do It' (Piano mix) brings only a little melodic relief and 'Jacker' is another dusty wall of impressive techno sound.

Planting Seeds (5:10)
Night Seeds (5:59)
Scorched (7:14)
Review: The Advent is a legendary techno outfit dating back decades. Originally consisting of Mr G and Cisco, now only the latter remains, and he brings a certain hardness to the techno remakes that will connect with those who are fans of that style's recent resurgence. Of course, Perc Trax has always dealt in that stuff so makes a perfect home. 'Planting Seeds' is a manic, dense opener, yet 'Night Seeds' manages to up the ante with even more frenzied grooves. 'Scorched' leaves the warehouser behind and has a more Motor City style, looking to the future and filled with machine soul.

True State (3:24)
Foothold (5:33)
Human Form (8:04)
Review: Techno legend The Advent is having a second coming of sorts. Following an impressive run of releases for the likes of Suara, Mord and Drumcode in recent times, the project now solely operated by Cisco Ferreria returns for this brand new belter on Ben Klock's label, following up 2018's 'High Horse'. Klockworks 30 unleashes three previously unreleased live recordings, their timeless quality relinquishing the sparse energy of Ferreira's live sets, both solo and alongside Colin McBean in the 90s. From the heads-down and hypnotic groove of A side cuts "True State" with its infectious, cyclical melodic bass, or the stomping and strobe-lit pace of the adrenalising "Foothold", right though to the B side offering Human Form" - a frantic tribal funk workout.

Review: The Advent were hard techno pioneers who headlined huge shows in the nineties. Now, that is a sound that is very much en vogue: enter a new album on Rotterdam label Mord from the one remaining member, Cisco. "Shadows" wastes no time in smashing you over the head with powerful drum programming, linear percussion and underlapping bass. That is basically the template for all eight tracks, with subtle tweaks and variations along the way that make it a workman like, but utterly essential, album of no frills, high thrills techno.

Review: The Advent made for a perfect addition to the formidable Thema catalogue, and now he's back with the second volume of his "Dorian Blue" series. There are plentiful loops to get creative with, but the fully-formed tracks have their own cyclical qualities to inspire technically-minded DJs. "Structures" is an urgent, tightly wound piledriver, while "Interactive Loop" and "Digitize" cuts both take a sprightly, Motor City-styled approach to electro. With loops derived from these classy tracks and more besides, there's a lot to get the creative juices flowing as well as bodies popping.

In Time (The Brooklyn edit) (6:33)
Rhythm (Is Life edit) (6:35)
Review: REPRESS ALERT: Cisco Ferreira continues to fly the flag for rugged hardware powered techno with personality, well over 20 years since he first emerged. The Advent is rightly hailed as a mark of assured quality for good reason, and Thema make a smart move in signing up this fresh grip of tracks from the veteran producer. "Kombination 100" is a lurid, slightly unhinged acid workout from the outer limits, while "Dorian Blue" sets a more moody, aquatic tone with a dash of electro thrown in for good measure. "In Time" brings things up in tempo and attitude, sporting some surging 909 drums guaranteed to get bodies striding with purpose, and then "Rhythm" spins out into trippy electro territory for the heads-down travelers to get spiritually expanded to.

Review: Some 24 years into his career as The Advent, British techno stalwart Cisco Ferreira continues to deliver heavyweight records at an impressive rate. Here he makes his debut on Ben Klock's quietly impressive imprint, offering up a three-track missive in his inimitable style. Interestingly, there's plenty of subtle variety across the EP. Compare and contrast opener "High Horse", a formidably fuzzy and metallic chunk of peak-time techno sleaze rich in wonky vocal samples and booming bass, and the jacking techno loop-funk of "Sound Pove", which boasts plenty of restless drum machine handclaps and trippy musical samples. Sandwiched in between you'll find "Un Named", a smoother and deeper peak-time workout that's nevertheless still tough as teak.

Review: Cisco Ferreira aka the Advent is truly a techno legend. He is widely-accepted as one of the best producers and engineers ever to come from the techno scene and has produced countless techno masterpieces for most top labels over the last 12 years. After a short break his Kombination Research label is back with new material. As usual with Advent the production is deadly and the A1 track is a killer with its rolling percussion and fat groove. On the flip we have another techno bomb plus a superb electro monster. What a return!!

Review: REPRESS ALERT: Exzakt continues to forge one of the purest totems of classic electro with his Monotone label, and indeed his own output. The latest release is a various artists EP which perfectly sums up everything Monotone is about. The Advent leads the way with the dark, melodic "Eye's Of Envy," produced alongside Zein, before Exzakt himself drops a taut and wiry dancefloor bomb in the shape of "Kreep." 214 fires up the B side with the edgy, minimalist thrust of "Crouch & Turn," before EggFooYoung makes a surprise return to the fray with the more Miami-flavoured stylings of "Bass2Large," a slower, dirtier jam with low end frequencies to get the whole club freaking.

Review: Cisco Ferreira has been revered by those who like their techno with a menacing twist for, oh, nearly 20 years now. The British producer has clearly lost none of his production verve, with his name adoring three separate records hitting the Juno shelves this week. The first is a hookup with Portuguese producer Industrialyzer, with the Jonestown EP offering three slices of industrial renegade techno, namely "Yellow Fish", "Jack" and the EP's title track, which serves as a tribute to the victims of the Jonestown massacre in 1978.

Review: Cisco Ferreria may be better known for his banging techno as The Advent, but also proves his talent as a producer of bass heavy electro here for Billy Nasty's electro side label Electrix. "Eurodynamic" is darkside aquatic electro for freaks that fans of Dopplereffekt will equally admire. "Diverse Scope" intensifies things with a fierce beat assault and an epic sci-fi atmosphere. On the flip are two tracks by Mazzula. The affectionately titled "Carl Craig Always Did" features layer upon layer of razor sharp synths, whether they're played or arpeggiated, that's such a delight to hear; its like a massage for your ears. Finally "Doors" goes out all guns blazing on this fierce four to the floor peak time electro stomper. Tip!

It features a heavyweight crew of electro mainstays, first of which are The Advent & Zein Ferreira. Their 'Defend Your Plane' is a turbo powered cosmic assault with skewed synths and high speed drums. Review: Exit Planet Earth continues its exploration of the world of electro universe with an expansive, extended six track EP, featuring The Advent x Zein Ferreira, DeFeKT, London Modular Alliance, Konertymi and Zobol. The Advent, whose weekly Gardening Club residency in the mid-90s helped to drag electro out of the realms of the retro and back into the future, team up with Zein Ferreira for a Kraftwerk-on-speed extended mix of 'CarpeDiem', before London Modular Alliance's more moderately paced but still squiggle and bleep laced 'Lump of Coal' plus a 'beats' breakdown for the DJs. The B-side brings us the acid-powered 'Pulssi' by Konerytmi, the bouncy, breakdance-friendly 'Radar' by DeFeKT, and the relatively pure, optimistic sonics of Zobol's 'Data Wars'. Thumbs up all round.

Let's start with them: Legowelt is the Dutch wizard who flips 'Computer Monkey' into something with wispy melodies daring about the mix jacked analogue drums with the spacey vocals adding sci-fi vibes. The legendary DMX also remixes and for his part turns 'Computer Monkey' into an unrelenting and shimmering workout. The original from Captain Moustache featuring The Advent is not too shabby either. Review: Some big name retro-futurism here, as The Advent joins forces with CJ Bolland to offer up a mighty re-make of the latter's mind-altering 1992 Belgian techno classic "Camargue". The 2019 "original mix" (A2) recreates many of the most familiar elements from the '92 version (including the rumbling bassline, US garage style stabs and evocative strings), tweaking the arrangement and adding some suitably tribal techno drums into the mix. Ironically, Maceo Plex's thumping, angry, kickdrum-driven remix is closer in tone to the now familiar "Drumcode sound", with the producer leaning towards the dark and intense. As for Keith Carnal's mix, it actually sounds like a more hypnotic, locked-in techno version of "Chime" by Orbital.

The standout version comes from Adam Beyer and Layton Giordani, who pepper a hybrid house/techno groove with Bolland's original organ stabs, strings and metallic bassline. The Advent delivers a tougher but arguably deeper techno mix - it's very hypnotic - while Enrico Sangiuliano joins the dots between techno, trance and old school flavours.
