Do You Wanna Funk?
Do You Wanna Funk? (180 gram marbled vinyl 12" in embossed sleeve)
Cat: SPEC 1829. Rel: 07 Jul 21
Disco/Nu-Disco
  1. Patrick Cowley - "Do You Wanna Funk?" (feat Sylvester - remix 1) (6:25)
  2. Patrick Cowley - "Do You Wanna Funk?" (feat Sylvester - remix 2) (6:26)
  3. Sylvester - "Don't Stop" (6:53)
Review: It's an oldie but a goodie; Patrick Cowley and Sylvester's 1982 electronic disco classic 'Do You Wanna Funk' receives another worthy vinyl repress featuring two timeless remixes. The two versions on the A side are the most commonly heard ones, with Sylvester's unmistakeable falsetto underpinned by Cowley's adrenaline fuelled and trance inducing production. Over on the flip, we have the sweltering disco inferno of 'Don't Stop'.

Attack The Dancefloor Vol 13
  1. Mistura - "Do You Love Me?" (feat Angela Johnson - Joey Negro Disco Blend) (6:20)
  2. Sylvester - "I Need You" (Opolopo remix) (7:55)
  3. Neapolitan Soul - "Welcome To The Dub" (11:44)
  4. Raquel Rodriguez - "We Go Together" (Joey Negro club mix) (6:21)
Review: Over the years, Z Records' "Attack The Dancefloor" series has proved to be a serious source of tried-and-tested club cuts in a disco-centric style. Volume 13 is full to bursting with must-have tracks too. Label boss Dave Lee sets the tone, donning his famous Joey Negro alias to deliver a sumptuously summery "Disco Blend" of Mistura's Angela Johnson-voiced "Do You Love Me?" before Opolopo steals the show by turning Sylvester's surging disco anthem "I Need You" into a synth-sporting chunk of revivalist disco-boogie. Neapolitan Soul's "Welcome To The Dub" is a punchy chunk of disco-house laden in percussion and cute instrumental touches, while Lee's Joey Negro Club mix of Raquel Rodriguez's "We Go Together" is a sweet and seductive fusion of jazz-funk instrumentation and celebratory disco grunt.

You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) (Soulwax remixes)
Cat: SW RMXSYL. Rel: 09 Nov 21
Disco/Nu-Disco
  1. You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) (Soulwax For Despacio remix) (11:02)
  2. You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) (Soulwax For Despacio instrumental remix) (11:01)
Review: In a monumental move - after being personally asked to do so by Sylvester's estate - Soulwax has returned to Craft Recordings for this latest double reworking of the icon's 1978 disco classic, 'You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)'. This 12" is a straight-up affair, with one vocal and one instrumental adorning each respective side, and both dealing in Soulwax's slapping club reinforcements of a classic disco bit. And that's not to mention a hidden, never-heard-before Patrick Cowley synth solo found before the start of the original multitrack. This cut was specially made to play on the Despacio soundsystem, the 50,000-watt vinyl only system created by Soulwax alongside LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy.

You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) (blue vinyl 12" repress)
Cat: SL 0061. Rel: 12 Nov 21
Disco/Nu-Disco
  1. You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) (Michael Gray remix) (7:33)
  2. You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) (Michael Gray dub mix) (7:38)
Review: What more needs to be said about this timeless disco hit? A staple of DJ sets by everyone from Derrick May and Laurent Garnier to James Murphy, this Harvey Fuqua and Patrick Cowley production from 1979 is a truly timeless classic whose spirit still lives to this day on modern dancefloors. Here we are treated to a rework by Britain's undisputed king of funky house Michael Gray (Full Intention) on his Sultra label. With full respect to the original, Gray's rework injects some dancefloor dynamics for the modern sound system. You even get a bonus instrumental "Dub Mix" on the flip!
