Cat: DFA 2280. Rel: 15 Feb 11
Disco/Nu-Disco
  1. Tuff Enuff (Michael Mayer remix)
  2. Take Em Up (John Talbot remix)
Review: Following their digital release at the tail end of 2010, Michael Mayer and John Talabot's Shit Robot remixes come to vinyl. It's a smart move by DFA. Mayer's version of "Tuff Enuff" is a thing of rare beauty. The Kompakt main man delivers a reimagination that succinctly fuses the bubbling, analogue grooves of the original and his own rich, dreamy take on electronic music. It's pitched just right; it's got dancefloor chops, alright, but sounds great on your home stereo, too. John Talabot's version of "Take Em Up" has a similar club/home feel, placing Nancy Wang's distinctive vocal at the heart of a rainbow-coloured midtempo house epic

Review: Two years on from his previous full-length, Irishman-in-Stuttgart Marcus Lambkin returns with What Follows, his third album. Recorded in his home studio, but mixed with Juan Maclean in New Hampshire, it's a typically stylish and trippy set that methodically joins the dots between Giorgio Moroder, LCD Soundsystem, Italo-disco, German techno, Balearic deep house, and intense Chicagoan acid. Lambkin has always been adept at making club music both left-of-centre and accessible, as if he secretly pines to make '80s synth-pop but is consistently drawn towards the dancefloor. This certainly explains the quantity and quality of the vocal numbers dotted throughout What Follows.
